"For too long, the brisket trimmings at celebrated barbecue joint Podnah’s Pit were going to waste. Then the team headed by owner Rodney Muirhead decided to turn them into burgers. The resulting pop-up was popular enough that now Lone Star is a brick-and-mortar restaurant in the former La Taq space next to Podnah’s. Expect a simple menu of burgs and hot dogs and things of that nature, plus some cocktails (they’ve kept the La Taq bar). Online ordering is available." - Zoe Baillargeon
"A pop-up turned full restaurant from the team behind acclaimed barbecue joint Podnah’s Pit; launched as a permanent spot on December 4 and brings the crew’s expertise to a burger-focused concept." - Harry Cheadle
"Turning a popular burger pop-up into a full-fledged restaurant in the former La Taq space, the new burger spot is set to open on December 4 next to the barbecue spot; owner Rodney Muirhead and the team finalized a half-pound patty that uses a blend of brisket, sirloin, and chuck after testing blends since early summer. The tight opening menu consists of a classic cheeseburger, a bacon cheeseburger, a fire-roasted green chile cheeseburger, and a rotating burger special; all of the burgers will be served with aioli on buns from Dos Hermanos. In addition to the burgers, the menu will include french fries, hand-dipped onion rings, Sabrett hot dogs, and chili-topped Coney Island dogs. Cocktails will also be on deck: The Oregonian reports the restaurant will keep La Taq’s bar, with the addition of new cocktails like a Manhattan and martini." - Rebecca Roland
"An industrial-yet-cozy taqueria and bar with rustic vibes, La Taq is well-regarded for its contemporary take on Tex-Mex, as well as its refreshing margaritas. Visitors can always find classic takes on the ubiquitous drink, plus spicy variations and a variety of fruit infused specials, like tamarind or mezcal and piña. Margarita specials often appear on the restaurant’s Instagram." - Alex Frane, Eater Staff
"One of the few explicitly Tex-Mex bars in town, La Taq is also one of the very few places in Portland selling puffy tacos, a San Antonio staple in which a chef deep-fries masa to create a puffy taco shell. Here, they arrive with fillings like brisket, ground beef, or mushroom. You’ll find nachos and margaritas on offer, as well." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
