Yelp
In a bitter departure from our previous dining experiences in Barcelona, La Taverna del Clinic was a letdown, primarily because of the icy, unkind service. We'd been spoiled by the gracious, generous, and friendly staff we'd encountered at every restaurant before coming here, and it was hard not to take it personally. While the food was good, it was far from the best meal we ate in Barcelona, and I felt like this restaurant was out of touch and past its prime.
There are two dining areas in the restaurant: the casual bar you'll see upon first walking in, and the more formal dining room in the back. We ate in the dining room, which had excellent design and some lovely architectural choices, though somewhat randomly curated art.
We decided to order all the classics on the menu (these are marked with a symbol indicating such), figuring that we couldn't go wrong with the restaurant's tried-and-true, customer favorite dishes:
-The famous and "award-winning" patatas bravas: these were good but honestly tasted like fast food. I'd prefer the classic style over this attempt at avant-garde cuisine
-Tripe stew with Provencale-style chickpeas: fine, but not remarkable
-Morel mushrooms with foie cream: this was my favorite thing; it's hard to go wrong with morels and not easy to screw them up. This was super rich and flavorful, though fairly heavy
-Poached hen's egg with mushrooms, sausage, and shrimp carpaccio: an interesting combo of ingredients (sea, farm, forest), and a pretty preparation, but didn't blow me away
-Duck, mushroom, and foie cannelloni: wayyyy too heavy with all the cream; the flavors really got lost in the gloopy sauce
-Mi-cuit pâté with caramelized apple and Pedro Ximenez sherry: this was interesting and had lots of intriguing flavors but ultimately tasted a bit too sweet and lost nuance
-Pan con tomate: this never arrived and we didn't bother pushing the waitress about it
Save your euros and go elsewhere -- there's more artful food to be had in many other Michelin-recognized restaurants in Barcelona, and this ladies-who-lunch and power-brokers-who-wield-cigars crowd does not seem to encourage creativity in the staff. It was stuffy and uninspiring.
