Food was a solid 8/10. The shrimp was seasoned very well and steak was fine. First round of drinks (first pic) were really good but i did not like the second one (last mamacita) but im also not a mezcal girlie so i can see how other people can enjoy it. The restaurant was empty and our waitress didn’t really pay us mind after we got the food so keep that in mind. Otherwise good little spot in Astoria

I’m glad we found this place and enjoyed the game and delicious food and drinks, they were also packed out but we’re able to accommodate me and my wife to seats and amazing views and still get incredible service. The ambience was love and loud and beautiful, definitely recommend this place!

I loved it here! The food was really good, and the drinks were even better. I went for brunch and had a passion fruit sangria that was so good! Our waitress Patricia was super nice and helpful with giving us ideas of what to order and was very attentive. As well the rest of the staff very friendly. Will definitely be coming back soon.

Cute contemporary restaurant/bar with great service, playing Latin pop beats. The food is a bit overpriced, comes in small portions, and tastes fine. We liked the virgin drinks and chicharrón appetizer. The ropa vieja was good, nothing special. The churrasco steak was disappointing for the $45 charge. It was very small, about half the size of a regular steak. It tasted fine as medium rare, nothing special; even if the churrasco had been average-sized it wouldn't have been worth the money.

This place was amazing! Such a hidden gem. We were a party of 20 and our table was ready for us upon arrival. The food was great!! Did not get one complaint. Also didn’t wait long for the food. The drinks were tasty! Our server, Patricia was so lovely. Very attentive and helpful.

This is one of the best restaurants I have visited. The food and drinks were very tasty and with good temperature. The service was phenomenal because they really know how to take care of their customers. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really cool and they have a place in the back where you can take nice pictures. I will definitely recommend this place to eat good food and spend some time with friends.

The service is good but could be better, the food not bad , price wise is a little expensive for the size of the portions But the killer is the tip they charge on everybody, which is 20% of the bill, even for a single dinner. Since when is the tip mandated ? I thought it was a courtesy for good service. I hate when restaurants do that. Not even Manhattan restaurants will do that. This place chooses what percentage they want for tipping

This place was amazing. We went to celebrate a birthday. The server was very attentive and the food was good. They have a perfect photo opportunity in the back. You must try the salchipapas!! Definitely plan on going back.

This restaurant was a vibe! It's on a bust avenue so parking can be tricky, but the food and hospitality are worth the potential frustration. It was a girls brunch and my friends birthday had just passed so we decided to keep her birthday month going! The restaurant offered to set up the table for us so when we arrived there was HBD letters on the table and balloons! The celebration also came with complimentary shots which was a nice kickoff! I loved the food and the service! We started off with a pitcher of passion fruit margaritas as the waitress suggested, and then it was followed by the picadera platter which was a mixture of fried plantains, fried pork chunks, cheese, chicken, and steak. It was a big platter for four people and we absolutely felt stuffed afterwards! We let time pass and kept drinks flowing while we caught up and gave our stomachs some time to digest. Once we felt ready my friend and I shared a skirt steak platter which was accompanied by white rice, black beans and sweet plantains! The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. I was so pleased with the food and was happy to have come across this place! The brunch ended with a happy birthday song and a complimentary tres leches cake which was AMAZING! We also had another round of complimentary shots! After a shared app, two pitchers of margs, one entree and a birthday set up, the bill came out to $200 which I thought was a pretty good deal for a brunch. We left full, tipsy and so happy! Would absolutely recommend!

Atmosphere- buzzing, energetic with great music on the TV. The decor was cool. Service - good. Solo waitress/ bartender for 4 tables. It was fairly empty( Tuesday night ). She forgot to get our waters. Food - average. The photos looked really good but the food was so so. Artichoke arepa was deep fried and tasteless. The side of beans was tasteless and blah - I mean this is a Colombian restaurant! My summer salad plus add shrimp ( $16+ $10) was a bit disappointing with more croutons ( I counted 25) than greens. The balsalmic dressing was good. The shrimp were in a nice garlic sauce. I was dying for a cup of Colombian coffee ; their sign stated fresh coffee served all day but they did not have any. Parking on Steinway - free after 7 pm. Easy access. This was an ok experience. Not going to be back!

Had the lunch special here. Il tell you rite now this place caught me off guard. The soup was like they had someones grandmother in the back cooking. And they even blessed it with chunks of chicken. Amazing. Drinks was decent too. The girls in there treat you like you a papi so service is definitely on point.

Note: a lot of the photos/menus on Yelp are actually outdated because they no longer have a build your own bowl. It seems the place has been renovated since those menu photos were posted. Most up to date is the website! This bandeja paisa platter is probably artery clogging, but so satisfying. You get a huge slab of pork belly, steak, rice, beans, eggs, avocado and plantains. The skin on the pork belly was pretty chewy but the meat was delish (can't go wrong with the belly meat). The rice and beans were fabulous. The steak was a no frill grilled steak, there is a green sauce that comes with the plate and pairs well with the steak. It's almost $30 for this plate. Would I get it again? Probably not. More so for the price and also how unhealthy it is!

I order from here a lot. I love their sopas. I decided to order the chicken soup today for this chilly day and I was not disappointed. Of all the times I've order this.... Today this soup has more flavor than ever. It is delicious. I sometimes order their bandeja and it's always good too. Their chicharrón is always crispy and not dry or burnt. My fiancé loves all the different types of burgers. And their juices are thirst quenching!!! Love this place!

We were overall very pleased and glad we came, the food itself that we ordered is why we recommend visiting. The elote and mini arepas had a wonderful smokey taste. The crispy artichoke was unique and lightly breaded, not heavy. The arepas were large, I imagine the platters on the menu would be very large. Service was good, ambiance/decor a bit rough and ready but the highlight is the food. The checkout system is set up to calculate the automatic tip options based on the total after tax, as opposed to pretax as expected. You have the option to choose custom tip if you want to calculate your tip on a pretax basis, as customary. Check out their clear notes on their menu/website about automatic gratuity for parties of 4+ so you know what to expect and then can have a great time.

I loved everything about this place - the hospitable service, the delicious food, and the fun ambience Food: I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu here! My favorite thing was the cachapa! So for cachapas and arepas, you can choose out of three different types of fillings! We got the mozzerella, plantains, and beans! We added grilled chicken and honestly it was heavenly! It's so large and filling and oozing with flavor! The sweetness of the cachapa compared to the saltiness of the cheese and chicken was a great mix! We also got a vegan chicken arepa. The arepa itself was pretty bland and I wasn't a huge fan of the fried "chicken" but my friend really enjoyed this! We also got a bowl with grilled chicken which came with fries, rice, grilled chicken, and beans! The bowl is great if you want something more protein heavy! This was a lot for two people so we had tons of leftovers! Service: everyone who works here is incredibly nice and joyful! They made us feel very welcome and gave suggestions of how we can customize our orders! They were very attentive Price: reasonable prices for everything but I thought the bowl was a little pricy for what it was! Ambience: loved the vibe of this place! Very fun and I would come back for drinks becuase it definitely seems like it would have fun bar vibes

Came here for Happy Hour and the drinks were super delicious! They gave really good BOGO deals (just check which day is what). The drinks were not watered down, and the bartender was happy to switch it up. I ordered the shrimp, which was smaller than I expected. I think the food was very underwhelming, as the flavor was all packed in the shrimp and nothing else.

I came here after my friend kept raving about it. I have to say she wasn't kidding the food here is excellent. I came before 7pm and they were having happy hour which I took advantage of. I did the build your own arepa. Had the sweet corn arepa with chorizo, beans and cheese. My husband had the same but did chicharron (fried pork belly) for his meat. Both were delicious and the portion is more than generous. I can't wait to come back to try their other dishes.

Great spot for drinks and food if you want something more lowkey out in Queens. Here's what you need to know: 1. They have lulo flavored drinks.. if you know, you know. 2. Good portion sizes for both appetizers and entrees 3. Friendly service 4. Excellent music and energy for whatever you're looking for (pregame, dinner spot, fun yet casual night out) Highly recommend coming here to get the Colombian classics.

The drinks were great and had good and timely service. It sucks that were placed in the table near the back where the bathroom is where people constantly go back and forth but can't complain. Maybe putting a curtain or something would help divide that but overall it was a nice place to eat at.

I was attracted to this restaurant for 2 reasons. 1) One being that I was craving Columbian food. 2) Secondly but most importantly, I liked that they have a build-your-own Latin bowl option. (Some places offer things on their plates that I don't necessary like, so it's nice to know that I can choose what I like) Of course, I chose to make my own Latin Bowl. I opted for brown rice as my base, ropa vieja as my protein, beans and plantain as my 2 toppings and also added sweet corn as an additional topping. My friends and I also decided to share salchipapas. Everything was really good and super filling as Columbian food always is. Service was good. Restaurant is very spacious with table spread out. Price is reasonable. My friends and I really liked our experience here.

Service was quick and the wait staff were very friendly. The food options were huge and the guys was dinner very well. Salchipapas we're done if the best I've had and the fries were super crispy holding up well with the nicely cooked cut up dogs on top that still had a good snap to the casing. Only suggestion is sharper cutlery to get through that nice crunchy lechon and sightly better lighting

Wow! We live in Harlem and do not have good Colombian food nearby. Luckily La Vecina is a short drive away and so worth it!!! Started off with the tamarindo margarita and it was very tasty (although it had more ice than drink I think.) This time around we did not have an appetizer but I have had their yuca balls before which are very tasty and come with a delicious garlic dipping sauce! The paisa bowl comes with lots of protein and we've actually shared it in the past when we get apps. My boyfriend is Colombian and really enjoyed it! I ordered the build your own with ropa vieja, calentado rice, Colombian cheese, curtido & avocado. Everything was VERY good and only cost 14 dollars despite the ropa vieja, rice & avocados which were extra. Very filling cannot wait to go back!

The food at La Vecina is so good. I've gone there a handful of times and it never disappoints. Their drinks are also really good-- very well made and balanced. They had a DJ on Saturday night around 9 pm and that can be loud if you're trying to have a conversation but if you're looking for good food and some good beats, this is a good spot. Also the customer service is very good.

Today is Colombian independence day so I decided to have lunch at a small Colombian restaurant @lavecinaastoria . The drinks were on point and on this hot and humid day in NYC it hit the spot. The appetizer which was called tostones relleno with shrimp was excellent and honestly I should have been done with that alone but I was pretty hungry and the main dish was too good to leave any on the plate. Had dinner for my birthday with family. The service and food was amazing! Everything was delicious! Would definitely go back again!

I was by hungry for lentil soup and I've got to say, it was simple but delicious. I would highly recommend the soup with the rice and tostones. I was excited for the yuca croquettes but I will say it's missing something. It's very bland. Even with the cheese, just bland. Maybe a different sauce may make all the difference. I ordered through Uber Eats so I didn't get to visit the restaurant or experience customer service. I would order the soho again.

Good spot for drinks and vibes. A little loud even when it was kind of empty when we went. We made reservations for 4, but when we came the restaurant had more than enough tables for us. The food was pretty good, but a little on the heftier side in terms of price. The portions are a little smaller for what it's worth. We ordered the bandeja paisa, chicharron arepa, and maduros con queso. They didn't have the croquetas de yuca that day unfortunately, but those looked so good. The bandeja paisa was pretty good; came with a grilled steak (bistec), plantains (platanos), a whole strip of chicharron, rice and beans and an arepa and some maduros. For $22, I feel like I've gotten a little more at other places but this was still delicious! Steak was tender to eat. Chicharron went great with the sauces as well. The maduros were good too. I wish they gave more with the maduros appetizer but it was great with the cotija cheese. Maybe we ordered wrong but I was expecting an arepa sandwich when we got the chicharron arepa. :( Overall, experience here was good. The restaurant is situated on Steinway so there's a lot to do and see in that area!

Very kind and attentive wait staff, we were sat right away. I got an arepa with chicharron and fried egg, as well as pollo empanizado. Both were delicious, but I preferred the arepa. The beans weren't my favorite and the chicken was lacking a bit of flavor but was very crunchy. The chicharron was delicious. My margarita with a coronita was also so good! Everything came out very fast.

Everything is so delicious!!!!! The presentation of the food is a true art! The drinks are fantastic! I tried both passion fruit margarita and sangria, a must try for those who love margarita and sangria!!!

My co-workers and I have not been to this local Astoria business since the pandemic. We were fans of there delicious bowls with their pickled onions and garlic rice, however those options were no longer on the menu. Please bring back the garlic rice! Due to our ability to adapt we ordered the roasted pork and crispy chicken cutlet lunch special meals. The meals were moderately priced and very delicious. To go along with our meals we ordered the margarita and sangria, and the drinks did not disappoint.

Delicious soups! I been ordering soups from this restaurant and I'm very pleased. Comes with rice and tostones which makes it a nice side complement.

This place seems more known for the nighttime bar scene but it's a mellow option for a workweek lunch. There is a M-F lunch special and I paid less than $15 for a table service lunch! How often do you get that in NYC?? The arepa was very tasty. Portion size was admittedly not huge but it's perfect for a quick solo meal during the workday. Only complaint is that the music was a bit too loud...you should probably turn it down for daytime.

The passion fruit sangria is delicious and the arepas are yummy. The cachapa (sweet ones) way better than the Paisa (savory ones) but both are good nontheless. I only wish they had dessert and that they had avocado because they were out the day I went. But I'll definitely come back to try more stuff!

I wanted to give a second chance and try to this place since last time food was tasteless and dry. Maybe it's my bad luck with this place because I don't understand the high reviews! I ordered a picada today potatoes were dry, tasteless, and all tostones/tajadas (however you wanna call it) were raw! Garbage! Garbage! How come you have people in the kitchen making tostones/tajadas close to an inch thick ? There is not a third try for this place

I was in the mood for arepas and came across this place. It's a very cute lively spot. They were playing good music. I wanted something simple and ordered a regular white corn arepa and the yuca croquettes. The arepa was pretty basic. The cheese wasn't completely melted. The yuca croquettes were nicely fried however it was pretty bland. I expected it to be gooey with cheese. But I was able to salvage it by using my own salsa rather than the garlic sauce they provided. I will likely return and maybe try their arepa with their protein and toppings.

Had this catered to work today. Super tasty. Note their catering menu has different food than the restaurant, but I'd totally go visit the restaurant based on this meal. Had pork and chicken (pollo suisado) as the entrees. Sides we're sweet plantains, corn, black beans, and two types of rice. One was garlic rice and the other was a kale pesto brown rice. There were a bunch of interesting sauces, but the roasted peppers and the salsa verde were top notch. All in all if you ignore the oil the meats sit in, the flavor is great and all very fresh. Highly recommend the catered food at least.

Had the stuffed arepa with shredded beef ( ropa vieja) beans, plantain and cheese. Wow this was absolutely amazing!! Everything was fantastic! Probably one of the best arepa places you will come across in nyc

I really wanted to love this place. I really did. Unfortunately i can not. I ordered the roasted portobello veggie arepa (the only vegan arepa in the menu unless you modify the other veggie arepas). The flavor of the arepa was just off. It left a weird tingly feeling and taste in my mouth. I couldn't even get myself to finish it. The flavor was just to too strong that instead of it being appetizing it became inedible. I was excited to try this place because of the good reviews but I was left disappointed. Positive: Spacious and clean space. They also have boardgames that you can use. Staff was also very helpful.

The food was sooo good! We came for date night and were super happy with our choice. The drinks were great. Service was amazing. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive. I had a sweet corn arepa with ropa vieja - it did not disappoint. My boyfriend got steak and shrimp. The flavors were amazing. Would definitely recommend and would definitely come back!

This place has been on my radar for a while however,the arepas were okay. Even thought I ate it right away after they packed it for me. The cheese was not melted totally and the arepa was dry not moist. The best thing I had at this place was the agua panela. The agua panela is made from sugar cane and they add lemon to make it like a lemonade. Will like to go back to try other dishes.

Let me tell you this has been the best services i ever experienced at a restaurant ,i was in shock. Patricia our waitress was amazing she was so attentive and kind .The drinks are delicious we had strawberry margarita and a coco margarita. The food was beyond me expectations We had the picada and sancocho de res.

Horrible service, The waitress was extremely disrespectful. Stating that my husband was complicated because he asked a drink without ice. Are you serious?! She kept interrupting us, When we asked to speak with the manager since she kept disrespecting us. According to her she was the manager. I asked to speak or have the owner name. Since she wouldn't assist us. She then stated she wasn't going to give me that information. I would never return there unless you want to be disrespected by your waitresses. Even my husband who she insulted stating she wouldn't have judge him if he wasn't a complicated customer from the beginning?! Only because he apologized to her saying he forgot to say no ice. If she can please give him the juice but without ice. That's literally all he said. As a Restaurant owner ourselves. You lack in experience and we could assist you with our team in leading management training and CEO training as well which lacks in your Business. We would of loved to discuss with you. What actually did happen and how it escalated. Nonetheless, if you want to Continue having an open restaurant I kindly recommend you actually have a discussion with an upset customer to understand both sides and not just take the word of your unprofessional staff. Who's trying to save themselves. I recommend having audio because apparently you were 100% misinformed and none of what you mentioned came out of our mouth. No free food & drinks as it wasn't consumed. My husband even stated he would pay. However I refuse to pay for something we didn't consume as were being scrutinized by your team. If I was really upset about the lunch special I would of left? Don't you think common sense. Again, Your staff making excuses to make the customer look bad. To not get in-trouble by upper management. If apologizing and requesting a drink without ice. Gives your team the right, To state were complicated and belittle us? Then clearly we're not the problem. If your still in denial that your staff is unprofessional- just scroll down when you get to like the 6th & 9th review. You will see the exact same comments. "Rude staff", "Wasn't acknowledged". Everything we also dealt with today. Again, friendly suggestion maybe it's time they do provide your information as it's crucial for a successful business for your customers to be heard by upper management when recurring issues keep happening. I have been on a Latin food craze lately and found myself here one day for dinner to satisfy that craving! We stopped by around 7pm on a Wednesday and they weren't busy at all. They've expanded their menu since the last time I came here which was cool to see. They now have Latin Bowls but honestly, they just charge for each ingredient in the bowl so you're not really getting a "deal" which is what I initially thought. I would still recommend making your own bowl if none of the pre-made ones catch your eye. We ordered the Paisa Bowl (~$20) which comes with white rice, red beans, sweet plantains, steak, chicharron, fried egg, and avocado. We asked to substitute the chicharron for chicken since we don't eat pork. Apparently, it's not that easy to do a substitution like that. I didn't understand why since they're essentially the same price. He "removed" the chicharron and just charged us for the chicken. It was an additional ~$3. I was super hungry and excited to try this bowl, so I let it go. It took about 20 minutes to prepare the food, which is pretty long for one plate. By the time we got it, we had really built up an appetite. It came with 4 sauces: pink sauce, aji sauce (green), chipotle sauce, and garlic lemon. Honestly, this Latin Bowl was delicious! It was well worth the wait. The chicken and steak were super tender and were complemented by the white rice, beans, and plantains. The avocado slices and lettuce were a nice, light touch, as well. The egg was a bit overcooked; I was expected a sunny-side up egg or at least a bit runny but it wasn't at all. The sauces were great - the pink sauce and aji sauce are a must! You can dip that in everything! For ~$24 and considering I split it with someone, it was basically ~$12 per person which is reasonable. If they had this in a smaller portion at half the price, I would definitely come back more frequently. If you're in the Steinway area or looking for a solid Latin platter, La Vecina will keep you satisfied!

I started following this place on instagram, and after the delicious looking pictures I knew I had to pay them a visit. I've had their food twice and had a great experience both times. Their food is simply high quality and delicious. Though the food can be recognized as fast food, it certainly does not have that feel. I hope they get much more traffic than what they usually get because they certainly deserve it. The flavor is there, the creativity is there, and the service is there. This is a great place to take your friends if you want to look good.

Wow this place was amazing. Looks like it's a hole in the wall joint, but also doesn't that often guarantee it's a great spot?! The cachapa and combo meal we had was 5/5! If you get a combo platter, plan to share it with someone bc it's huge lol The croquettes were ok.. we didn't prefer the sauce that came with it, but asked for the ketchup Mayo sauce they serve with the meal instead and it was great.

I absolutely loved this place! I went this afternoon to have lunch since I have heard lots of good things about this restaurant. The food was amazing, I ordered sancocho de pollo, and the taste was delicious. The waitress who took care of my table was outstanding, she provided us with good service, and she was very attentive toward us. I totally recommend this place!

Surprised they're not busier, but I guess people are still hesitant about indoor dining. I do hope this place survives as the staff was wonderful, the food was tasty and fresh and the drinks were strong enough to make you happy. We visited during a rainy night, so they were not super busy, but there were still quite a few tables with people eating. The service was prompt and the food arrived piping hot and delicious, so much so, my friends order food to go. We'll definitely come back

I never review a place this many times. I'm usually so underwhelmed w/ food in Astoria. But honestly this place is Ssssooooo good! They have lunch specials. And happy hour. Order off their website. I feel like it's better for their business than grubhub or seamless. They are on there too. They staff is so nice! It's clean So many choices. Love how many things there are for vegetarians. Generous w sauces - oh the sauces. Mmmm Today I got a bowl lunch special. Comes w soda. You choose a base a protein side a sauce and a topping. Lots of options. Vegetarian if you want it. 2 kinds of Chicken - pulled or grilled. Beef pork Etc. I got a salsa verde and it was spicy and delicious. At first I thought I wouldn't have enuf sauce but I didn't even need the whole thing. I got grilled chicken (pollo a la plancha which is $1 more) salad greens roasted sweet potato picked onions and I added avocado (95 cents more) and grilled corn ($1 more). I am totally full hours later. Generous portions. Fresh ingredients. So flavorful. Forget chipotle and support your local business! I got a limeade and it was made fresh. You control the sugar. Could have had it w raspberry but didn't. So refreshing. Wish it was crushed w ice in blender and had more mint though.

Can't believe I didn't try this place sooner! I have always been hesitant to try because finding certified gluten free Colombian/Ecuadorian cuisine is rare, even in my Abuelas home kitchen. This place is so on it! The owner/cashier was incredibly helpful in walking my boyfriend through the menu to ensure his order was 100% free of even cross contamination from the shared fryer. He was able to get about 90% of the menu which was incredible because he's never tried an arepa! The crispy kale was the best thing I have ever tasted and added so much flavor to the bowl. The chicken was crispy just how I like it. Will definitely be back to try the lentil soup. I love that it's family owned and local. Even with chipotle opening up down the road I will definitely continue to bring my business here for their fresher and more authentic bowls.
