Barcelona Vermouth Bar Guide: When and Where to Drink | Eater

"A traditionally styled vermouth bar just off Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia that draws a busy, youthful weekend crowd and is perfect for a pre-lunch stop or late-afternoon primer on local vermut culture." - Sam Zucker

We walked into this restaurant spontaneously, but in hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have. With 15 years of experience in hospitality, I can honestly say this tops it all – unfortunately, not in a good way. The staff showed no joy whatsoever; smiling seemed impossible, as if they were working against their will. Several drinks were placed on the bar with almost force and a loud thud. We weren’t the only ones who noticed – guests at other tables also seemed bothered by it. Two ladies sitting at the bar had beer foam spill over their arms several times, yet not a single apology was offered. Throughout our visit, no one came to ask if everything was okay. Only when we asked for the bill did a smile suddenly appear. If that smile and genuine interest had been there from the start, they would have earned themselves a generous tip. We tried the Bomba from the menu; it could have been nice, had the inside actually been warm. What also surprised me: this is a restaurant, and normally pets are not allowed due to food hygiene. Here, that didn’t seem to be an issue, which raises questions about how well the rules are being followed. It's your first impression and that's what counts...when people ask what we think about this restaurant...we just say what we experienced All in all, a disappointing experience, both in service and quality.

We came across this bar by coincidence, and the atmosphere looked very welcoming from the outside. We decided to give it a try and ordered vermouths along with the Bomba de Barceloneta. While the ambiance and the vermouth were both very nice, I cannot say the same about the service and the waiters. The two men working behind the bar seemed visibly displeased with their jobs. One of them repeatedly slammed glasses onto the countertop every time he poured a drink, which came across as both rude and aggressive. It felt as though he might have had an argument with his boss, but that is not something customers should have to experience. Even two women sitting at the bar appeared annoyed by his behavior, as each slam caused drinks to splash. As for the Bomba de Barceloneta, the filling inside was unfortunately quite cold, in contrast to the warm potato exterior. It is disappointing that such a pleasant atmosphere was overshadowed by unfriendly service and lack of care. We might consider giving this place another try - if the staff changes.

Very stylish yet rustic, family business. As in many tapas bars you will need to order at the bar, as it often is in Barcelona. If you need some attendance just give the owners a heads up and they will gladly assist you. The most delicious Vermut I had in Barcelona. With a very thoughtful selection of food, all stunningly presented. I really loved this bar. Can recommend 10/10 🥰

Even though they do not have many options (some are on the menu but they don't sell it on certain days), but i like that they do their tapas usually with their own twist here. The Bombas for me is excellent. We ordered at least 10 other tapas and they are quite good. For drinks, they have quite a selection for vermouth, which is known as old people drinks but have recently gain popularity. Overall a good experience and would recommend it.

The place is great and really beautiful. But I wouldn’t come back, as no one could understand Catalan. In a place with such a traditional Catalan taverna style, the fact that they can’t understand even two sentences in Catalan is truly disappointing — it takes away from the spirit of the city, kills it and don’t welcome the locals.

We decided to check out La Vermu, which makes their own vermut (black and white). The server wasn't the friendliest, but was quick to serve drinks. Go up to the bar to order/pay. Saw most locals were ordering vermut, olives and the artisan potato chips. - Vermut reserva (3,00€) - smooth, but not as complex as Morro Fi’s reserva. - Vermut blanc (3,00€) - first time trying a white vermut. Slightly sweeter. - Pernil ibèric tallat a ganivet (12,50€) - Iberian ham was enjoyable. - Truita d'ous corral amb bacallà i ceba tendre (8,50€) - egg was fluffy, perfectly cooked. Cod bits were tender. Worth a try if you're in the area.

I love this kind of places with nice vibe and cosy environment. We started with a vermu, which was very good. And then had somethings to eat: - Burrata: delicious, super creamy with fresh arugula and dry tomatoes (€8,90) - tortilla: it was more a like an omelette, and it was not freshly made. It was not good. (€6,50) - Stuffed pepper: it was very good and a little spicy but a very small tapa. (€1.80) I am not giving more starts because the service was inattentive. They did not let us know that we needed to order in the bar. When we wanted to order food, they told us (out of the blue) that the kitchen was closed (10.30pm). After a couple of minutes, they returned and said it was still open until 11 pm. It was all very confusing.

Yelp
While we were in the Vila de Gràcia area, we decided to check out La Vermu. They make their own vermut (black and white). We dropped in on a Tuesday evening (6:45pm). The server wasn't the friendliest but was quick to serve drinks. Go up to the bar to order food/pay. Menu is small (snacks and tapas), drinks are cheap. Saw most locals were ordering vermut, olives and the artisan potato chips. - Vermut reserva (3,00€) - smooth, but not as complex as the reserva we had at Morro Fi. - Vermut blanc (3,00€) - first time trying a white vermut. Slightly sweeter. - Pernil ibèric tallat a ganivet (12,50€) - Iberian ham sliced up in bite sized pieces. Enjoyable. - Truita d'ous corral amb bacallà i ceba tendre (8,50€) - cod omelette with onion and chives. Egg was fluffy, perfectly cooked. Cod bits were tender. Worth a try if you're in the area.

Yelp
Loving this little spot in the area that feels super local. Vermut are great and food are great, a lucky late night found. Cured Tuna - wow! It's very common here in Spain I saw in almost every tapas bar I went. I thought it would be something very salty like smoked salmon, but the flavor was not overpowering at all, slightly seasoned and the tuna texture was firmer yet smooth. Stuffed Squid - mini squid chopped stuffed in big squid. Good nibbling food. Cod Omelette - simple thing that was very tasty. The egg that was perfectly cooked with middle part not fully cooked through egg, the best control in timing. Onglet Steak - because above all were soo good and I went out of control to order the steak before their kitchen closes. Probably should have ended the night at the omelette lol.

Yelp
Darn good vermut! Definitely a place where locals hang out. The vermut is deliciously sweet and delicate, both the house red and the white that I had. Bartenders were great as was the ambience.
