When the chef and owner is a husband and wife team whose dream was to set up a restaurant for the past ten years you know you have a dedicated and committed team that will ensure your food is the best that they offer. It’s almost like going as a guest and they hosting at their house. I went on an evening coming from LA when HWY 101 was jammed packed and it was such a respite. They are serious about food safety and also taste at the same time. Their chili and sambal sauces are really good and authentic. And they have a variety. If you are vegan ask them for recommendations and what they can tailor to suit.

We just finished dinner at LaaLaaPan and WOW! This place is absolutely amazing - a hidden gem for sure!! We’ve been to Indonesia twice and I can easily say this is the best and most authentic Indonesian restaurant I’ve found outside of the country itself. Arguably some dishes even surpassed what we had on our trips. We had the sate ayam, tahu gejirot, nasi uduk komplit, risol ayam, pastel ayam, and martabak manis for desert! Everything was exceptional - so unique flavor and perfect balance of everything. Ask for the sauce that come with the risol ayam and pastel ayam because it is incredible and can go with everything!! The nasi uduk komplit is amazing if you want to try a wide variety of different things, and both the sate ayam and tahu gejirot are highly recommended if you want appetizers. Don’t wait - if you had this place on your radar, just visit!! You will not be disappointed!

Absolutely phenomenal! Decided to come here for the fourth time after three prior visits. I brought my two cousins and their wives for their first visit and we all were very impressed. The food, especially the satay ayam (chicken) was extra flavorful and tender. All of us are either part Indonesian or married to one and we all know good authentic Indonesian food when we see and taste it. I only put four stars for Atmosphere as I think they should increase the size of the restaurant and hire more people to keep the good food coming. I understand scaling up has its challenges and stresses but they deserve good business. The staff is very friendly and accomodating.

I decided to try this place because I saw it on KTLA and I have never tried Indonesian food. The people here are so warm and inviting. The food was incredible. The flavors were so complex. I will definitely be back.

First time checking this place out with my bestie. We ordered Empek² (asked to fry it well done to ensure crispiness), bakso abang & nasi tumpeng mini. 1. The Empek-empek came out crispy! Which is to be expected & it was good and very close to the authentic ones in Indonesia (better than the one they have in West Covina Indonesian foodcourt). The vinegar sauce is a bit on the sweeter side and lacks dried shrimp crumbles like how it is supposed to be. Priced $12.95 & portion was decent. 2. Bakso Abang was the best order during our visit. The sambal they gave to paired with this dish was spicy & amazing!! (We love spicy & could tolerate high level of spiciness). They put 5 bakso meatballs in it. The broth was very tasty & it was seasoned very well! Priced $14.95 & portion were decent. 3. Nasi Tumpeng Mini though.. the nasi kuning (yellow turmeric rice) was great & fragrant. It came with only 1 piece of rendang but, we both think it tasted sweet & dryer almost more like Empal (different beef dish we have in Indonesia) instead of authentic rendang. The chicken sate tasted okay but a bit dry.. we could taste and smell the various spices in the marinate but it need a bit more salt & sweetness. Other side items, mie goreng, eggs & tempe orak arik were great. We both think this dish was overpriced at $22.95 with one slice of beef & 2 skewers of sate. Portion was decent. Expect a little bit of waiting time, but it's worth it! It means that they really pay attention to the details in their food prep! Will go back to try other dishes. Service was great! Recommended to others! Good sized free parking lot. We were there on Friday afternoon by lunch time and thus place was packed! With people ordered meals pick up to go.

Hi, this is Copilot. I'm glad you enjoyed your Indonesian food We saw this new Indonesian restaurant in the neighborhood while we were driving around and decided to check it out. We were not disappointed. The host (Stephen) was kind, patient, and lovingly explained the dishes from his country. Instead of being confused and intimidated, we felt welcomed and excited to try our first Indonesian food. We ordered fried shrimp (Udang Goreng Mentega) which was good and the portion was so generous we took half the dish home, a sampler plate (Nasi Tumpeng) which had all sorts of good stuff: beef, tempeh, chicken, egg omelet. We also had on the side some specialty dish of theirs, Kangkung, which was very similar to a Filipino dish that I missed from back home. I cannot recommend this place enough. You gotta try LaaLaaPan. Oh, and as a final act of generosity, as the staff were getting ready to eat, I asked Stephen (yes, we were on a first-name basis now, lol) what that chicken dish was (it looked delicious). He went inside the kitchen, took out a container, and unhesitatingly gave us a few pieces of their OWN LUNCH for us to try back home. What a great experience. We left LaaLaaPan smiling from ear to ear with our bellies close to bursting. Happy dining.

This restaurant has opened my taste buds to Indonesian food. Halfway through my amazing dish I had to leave a review now before I forget. Very fast service extremely clean and cozy feeling inside. Forsure will be returning with friends and family

More people need to come to this place. The food is such good quality with a homey atmosphere. It is hard to get authentic Southeast Asian food in California and this place is the real deal! Combos #19 and #14 are our favorites so far. The sticky rice dessert and shrimp chips are also divine!

Their Chicken Soup was best I ever had. and today for lunch we bought more of LaaLaaPan chicken for our us and our staff we loved it so very much. I had a really bad cold and today I am feeling much better. Thank you so very much to this wonderful family. Louis and Berta Ujueta

Fantastic! First time having Indonesian food and every single dish was great. The service was quick and super nice. I tried taking a picture of the dishes but the plates kept emptying out.

Passing by the spot a few times, finally made it in. Tried a nice variety, and was pleased. Had Sate Ayam for starter (Chicken Skewers), very tqasty. Loved the chili saucece complement.. Went on to the Soto Betami, (Beef Soup) really really good, comfort style food. My favorite might have been the Mie Gopreng (noodles w chicken). Soo savory. The Kangkung Cah Belacan (water spinach, shrimp paste, shallot, tomato) might have been the most interesting to stimulate taste buds and the palate into a new experience. LIlli was suuper helpful with recommendations and description of the dishes. They have a nice big menu, so will be back to sample more.

Want to be transported to another place and try something distinctly different? All you need to do is go to LaaLaaPan! Indonesian food!! Wow, so distinctly different from other Asian foods. I finally stopped by and it was great. A small restaurant in a strip mall. Not too busy so I was able to talk with Lily and also met her son! She patiently went through all the dishes I had questions about and I exciteoly ordered shrimp! I cant even explain the taste other than complex and yummy! My son had a grilled chicken and he devoured it. You can get fresh coconut to drink and scoop out the meat and eat! I'm excited to go back and try more! I also love that they were spot lighted on KTLA 5's LA Unscripted!

One of the valleys best hidden gems! Tucked inside a shopping plaza with ample parking LaaLaaPan is the epitome of a hole in a wall. Not only do they serve delicious and authentic Indonesian food they go above and beyond to make you feel warm and welcomed into the Indonesian culture. We ordered the sampler dish Nasi Tumpeng and beef soup Soto Betawi. The sampler dish is a great intro into Indonesian food. I loved the beef rendang, but everything went so well together and was delicious. The soup was also very good and a must try. Overall this is a lovely experience for a true cultural exploration and delicious meal.

Absolutely lovely place! It's small but you know it's good when the place is packed. Very authentic and flavorful food. You can tell it's made with love when run by a husband and wife. Lily, the owner, told me all the recipes are her grandma's so it feels like she invited me over to her home for dinner. They were very attentive, sweet, and gave great recommendations for our first time. The chicken was perfectly cooked! Not dry at all!!! I highly recomme d the corn fritters as an appetizer. Will definitely be back!!!

This is the only Indonesian restaurant in the Valley, and it is fantastic!! The food is fresh and delicious with lots of flavor. There are sampler plates too so you can try a little bit of everything, which I highly recommend if you're new to Indonesian food. Dishes are perfect for sharing too. For our group of 4, we tried: 1. Nasi Goreng Sayur - veggie fried rice, gluten free. Highly recommend! Indonesian fried rice is different from Chinese or Thai fried rice. It's both sweet and spicy and has a really nice flavor. This was one of our favorite dishes. 2. Nasi Uduk Komplit (#17) - sampler plate which includes fried chicken, fried peanuts and anchovies, boiled egg w/chili sauce, fried potatoes and green beans, and fried tempeh, served with a yummy coconut milk-lemongrass steamed rice. Highly recommend this one too so you can try different items. My favorites were the fried peanuts, tempeh, and rice. The chili sauce with the boiled egg was good too. 3. Grilled Pompano (fish) - this one took awhile (~20min), but it was really good if you like fish. Definitely eat it with the fresh basil, tomatoes, and sauce. It is a small restaurant, and it quickly filled up during the lunch hour. Lily, the co-owner, is so friendly and made lots of good recommendations. She checked on us throughout the meal. They have an Indonesian Soy Sauce (Kecap Manis) on the table, which was very unique and tasty. Add it to everything. You can even buy a bottle to take home! Parking is easy in the large strip mall lot. I will definitely be back!!

Authentic Indonesian food that was on my list for a very long time! Thought I'd stop by because I was driving past the area. I love trying different foods and loved that they were very vegan and vegetarian friendly. We had the bakwan jagung corn fritters it was good but a bit salty. The fried onion chips was very good condiment that came with it was very good as well! And had nasi tumpeng, loved the tempeh and rice was delicious. Lastly, the soup sayur asem was tangy and savory which was very flavorful! Overall wish the dishes were less salty but I'd go back and try different dishes because all of them had a homemade flavors to them. The owners were super sweet and offered in house ube ice cream too!

I am half Indonesia so of course I feel obligated to try this place as there aren't many Indonesian restaurants in the area. The food is great and the services is fantastic. The owners are super friendly and are happy to chat if it's not too busy. Be careful to request mild heat if you aren't used to a serious spice level.

Finally had the chance to check out this Indonesian restaurant! The place was cozy and natively decorated. Food was delicious! Full of flavor and it reminds me of my childhood growing up in Indonesia. The host was very pleasant and she gave us complimentary Indonesian desert. Definitely will return!!!

LaaLaaPan is located in a small plaza with ample parking for lunch and dinner hours. The only caution is that if they are busy, it might take a bit of time to find a table. They do not have the most comfortable and spacious seating, but the food is without a doubt worth the wait (and experience). I had their bakwan jagung (corn fritters), nasi ayam goreng komplit, and nasi goreng jakarta. The bakwan jagung was the perfect blend of a crispy corn snack with sweet and sour sauce. This appetizer is an A+, and I highly recommend this one! The nasi ayam goreng komplit featured a fried chicken that was moist on the inside but otherwise dry to taste, probably my only dislike of this dish. The nasi goreng jakarta was tasty, and I enjoyed having this as a leftover for another meal. Between the two dishes, there is also chili sauce - not intended for mild enjoyers. Caution: do not underestimate the spice... this one is real! Outside of the dry chicken, there was also a bit of noise int he background from a child, and the awkward sight of seeing an open drink in the fridge. Perhaps this is out of convenience, but it was not a relieving sight to see. Regardless, the tastes here are amazing, and I look forward to returning to try the remainder of their menu.

10000/10. AMAZING! Parking is in a big lot that shares spots with other stores in the plaza but was easily accessible. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the most welcoming, warm vibe from the owner himself. Him and his wife made our experience better than the best! Very nice people and great conversationists. Restaurant is a bit on the smaller side, but has just enough space to feel comfortable. Very intimate vibe. Atmosphere was clean and well kept. Ambiance was cozy and relaxing with Indonesian music subtly playing in the background. The owners even have drawings from their son up on the walls along with the Indonesian decor. So adorable and thoughtful! For starters, we got Oxtail Soup. The flavor was perfect. Veggies and meat portion were great. I was thinking of getting emping with my soup and was pleasantly surprised and happy when I found out they came with it on the side. For our main dish we got: #18 Nasi Tumpeng Mini I'm not a fan of noodles so I kindly asked if I could substitute it for telur balado and he accepted. He also suggested a substitution for something else on my plate and I went with it, no questions asked! Best decision ever. The rendang was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and spiced. The sate (chicken skewers) with the peanut sauce on it was yummy. Good portion and not dry (like most places). I'm not usually a fan of getting everything altogether, but I was in the mood to try a lil bit of everything here and this was the perfect plate for it. #17 Nasi Uduk Komplit. Everything on this plate was very aromatic and flavorful as well. The chicken and tofu was fried to perfection and the sauces really enhanced its flavor. Both our dishes came with the chilis and tempeh mixture and it was definitely one of the highlights of our meals. Everything on our plates paired very well together and it tasted like the homeland. Really brought me to my childhood. The aromatics, the flavor, the spices, everything was just right. You could tell it was definitely made with real TLC. The owner constantly checked in on us and even had great food suggestions we should get, but since we already had other things in mind we will definitely get those next time! At the end, we received ice cream on the house! Perfect ending to a perfect meal. I'm so glad there's finally an Indonesian restaurant in the valley. Everything was excellent. The hospitality, vibe, and food is unmatched. You won't regret it!

The food is amazing. Indonesian food is like a cross between Thai, Malaysian, and maybe Laos food. It's super good. The dishes are made of good quality ingredients. The grilled fish with a sweet and spicy Tamarind sauce was super flavorful and the Pompano was grilled to perfection. The beef rendang was delicious - we asked for extra sauce to make it more saucy and they were happy to accommodate. The spice level was just right. The shrimps with a spicy red sauce were also so fresh. The shrimps were huge and it was packed full of flavors. We asked for spicy and they did. The chicken fried was also delicious - it was very unique from what I know off a fried rice. We asked for the Sambal Bawang on the side and it was addicting. They can also make the dishes Vegetarian and or Vegan upon request and I confirmed that w/ Lily the owner. The place can accommodate up to 30 people - not too big but cozy, clean, and nice. The owner Lily is so nice and friendly. I can't wait to go back. They do delivery and reservations on yelp. I definitely recommend this place.

Not only is the food here amazing, but the owner is incredibly nice, she will remember your name (even when it's as hard as mine) from the first time meeting you. The waiting staff is very friendly - overall 10/10!

Went here with my bestie on a busy Saturday for some lunch. We've never had Indonesian food before and wanted to give it a try. #18 - Nasi Tumpeng Mini Steamed rice, cooked in coconut milk and turmeric. Served with 2 pieces of chicken sate, Rendang (Slow Cooked/braised beef in coconut milk and spices), fried noodles, Orek Tempeh (Fried Tempeh in sweet chili sauce), sliced egg omelet, and pickled cucumbers. it's like a sampler platter. Good to get if you've never had Indonesian food before. The tempeh was vegetarian and so good and flavorful. I thought it was meat. The Rendang beef was soft and delicious. The chicken sate had peanut sauce and was yummy as well. #24. Bihun Goreng (Gluten Free) (Stir Fried Rice Noodle with cabbage, bell pepper, scallion, and onions, Bokchoy. Served with fried egg and picked Cucumbers). (Chicken) I really enjoyed this. It was packed with flavor and had a little spice to it. Although I felt they skimped on the chicken and the bok choy a little bit. The space is tight. They had about 6 tables and they were packed when we went. I was lucky that a table was open when I arrived a little earlier than my friend. Service was good. They are busy so you have to flag them down if you need anything. I'm very glad we tried this place. I will definitely be back and will recommend Laalaapan to everyone.

Great to have a local halal Indonesian restaurant. Located in a strip mall near winnetka avenue and Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills. Tried the Nasi Tumpeng mini (chicken satay, beef, noodles and omelette) and also the Nasi Uduk Complit (coconut milk rice, eggs, anchovies, fried chicken and veggies) both were on point. Small family owned business that sure gets a lot of customers, was packed when I went. Love mentioning local businesses that deliver on quality of food and service and this one's surely a gem. Parking lot isn't the best to find a spot but shouldn't take too long.

The owner is super sweet and friendly, great service! I don't know if there are any other Indonesian spots in the valley, but if you're in a pinch this place will do. The chicken satay and fried egg noodles are solid. Definitely come here for an out of the box culinarily experience and get some Indonesian food.

Ordered Beef Rendang, Nasi Tumpeng Mini, Risol Bihun Kulit Lumpia, and more, and all were delicious. All were delicious, and the service was excellent. The Nasi Tumpeng Mini is an excellent first meal if you are trying to sample Indonesian cuisine. I'll let them describe it: "Served with, 2pcs of Chicken Sate, Rendang(Slowly Braised beef in coconut milk), fried noodles, Orek Tempeh (Crispy sweet and Spicy fried tempeh), Egg Omelet and Pickled Cucumbers)". For those who love trying new cuisine, this is an outstanding opportunity to do so. If you already love Asian cuisine in general, you won't find anything wildly different, just simply different flavors and a different kind of beautiful approach to doing what we all love doing: eating great food. I should mention that the restaurant is small and very cozy. If you're uptight about people scooting past you occasionally while you are eating, either temper your expectations, sit in the back, or go somewhere else.

Very good authentic Indonesian food. I had yellow rice combo they speciality recommended with Rendang, (beef curry), a bit of (subtitute from tempeh soy bean) & medium hot onion sauce, very little sauce only subtitute from sambal Terasi spicy hot sauce. Ordered Appetizer Sate chicken on the stick, and peanut sauce. Not in pix i think 4 pcs only. The chicken was white meat, the meats were small portion, with the price is better add more chicken. Spoke with the owner Lily she was friendly & nice. Her husband is a chef & she is the waitress so if more people are coming, it'll be kinda slow serve the foods. The place is small, it just opened 1 yr ago. Sell some Indonesian traditional snacks too. Price is a bit pricy for the portion of foods, but delish tasty authentic Indonesian spices. Lunch special include free drink. Location in Woodland Hills, the only Indonesian rest.in SF Valley and nice close by.

Lili the owner is so welcoming and kind. The food is great and made fresh. They are always open to suggestions since I have Indonesian snacks and desserts that would be great to see added in to the menu.

I just came home with some of their menu items and the nasi goreng Jakarta might straight-up be the best fried rice I have EVER had. The depth of this flavor? 12/10. Hands down. I'm wolfing it down while typing this review. Thank goodness for autocorrect because this should be all typos. The chicken is tender, there's still good crispness in the vegetables, and the fried egg is delicious! AND THE CORN CAKES. I'm sorry if I'm not getting the names right but look for the little fries corn cakes. Sumptuous. This place is so friggin' good.

First time eating indonsesian food and was blown away. The interior is nice and cozy for a nice 4 person family dinner or friends or dates. Not big parties. Best customer service in a while We got a free dessert at the end cause of the nice host , will be back!!!

Most of the food here is delicious. I'm an Indonesian and know what is good Indo food or not. This is one of the good ones in LA. Pempek Palembang is my favorite. But the ayam kalasan and ayam kremes is a must try. The owner couple is covering as chef, server, bus boy, cashier. At least majority of the time I was there. There are about 6-7 tables inside and a couple more outside. It's simple but nice. I like the simplicity, but I think we are sitting a bit too close to other tables. But most important for me is service, food, and cleanliness and they checked off all those criteria

Laalapan, the restaurant, was not too big or too small, with around 7-8 tables, which made this place cozy. The owners (we guess) were so welcoming and friendly. Foods that we ordered today as a first-timer are - Bakwan Jagung - Nasi Ayam Kremes comes with Sayur Asem - Ketoprak We ended up very full and satisfied, and this restaurant will be on our go-to list whenever we are in the area. Their signature dishes are Nasi Uduk/ Nasi Kuning, and most of their menu is authentic Indonesian dishes, including Kangkung Cah, Ikan Goreng, Nasi Goreng, Soto Betawi, etc. We will come back to try next time!

The only Indonesian restaurant in the valley is great! The service was awesome, the location has good parking since it's in a plaza. The only thing is that the restaurant is really small. I had 4 adults and a baby, we just felt crammed. There was barely any space for the high chair. The food, is good. We ordered the fried rice, rendang, the best was the fish!!! I really enjoyed the steam fish! The pricing was a bit more than normal. Most plates cost above $18-20. We also went around lunch time which was nice since we were able to get a free drink with some of our meals!!

This restaurant was great! Had never had Indonesian food. Everything we had was so delicious! The service was lovely and welcoming! Definitely going back!

This place has delicious food and a very wide assortment of items to order. It is hard to come across good Indonesian food and this is the only one in the valley I will eat! The prices are a bit high, but it is hard to source out a lot of Indonesian ingredients so I understand the pricing. I would recommend their Sate, Mie Goreng, festival rice, honestly the whole menu! If you're having an event use them for catering as well! Very kind staff!

We had the opportunity to dine here this past Saturday and it was a GREAT experience- Highly Recommend if you're wanting to try something new! It was an authentic and great first introduction to Indonesian Food. We got two platters and the grilled fish. The platters we chose, Nasi Tumpeng and Nasi Uduk Komplit offered many choices. We were able to sample some of the best in Indonesian cuisine and each dish was a textural delight, savory, well seasoned and very delicious offering! Please try this place out! They are a small family run establishment, the owner Lily was AMAZING. The inside is quite small and tables are close together but it offers a very cozy environment to dine in. Thank you again!

Glad that an Indo restaurant finally opened in 818. Thank you!! It's a small quaint place, and I hope they'll strive and expand. Service is great and everyone was very friendly. Overall, the dishes are yummy, authentic and have the homey feel. We tried many dishes since it was 6 of us so we shared everything. 2 of us never try Indo food before, and they like it too. My favorites are Mie Goreng Jakarta, Nasi Tumpeng, Nasi Goreng Pete, Sate Ayam. Mie Ayam Jamur, Nasi Uduk & Perkedel Jagung are good too. Oooh es cendol is good too. I will definitely go back.

The SFV culinary scene recently saw the opening of an Indonesian restaurant, Laa Laa Pan, on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills. The inside seating area of this eatery is small and cozy and is attended to by a friendly staff. The food is prepared in an enclosed environment that is surrounded by the seating areas. I was eager to try many items and therefore chose the Nasi Tumpeng Mini, a sampler if you will. This dish comes to the table with an exciting and attractive presentation. It consists of steamed rice, cooked in coconut milk and turmeric, served with 2pcs of chicken satay, beef rendang (slow braised beef in coconut milk), fried noodles, Orek Tempeh (crispy sweet and spicy fried tempeh) and strips of a plain egg omelet, pickled cucumbers and a chili shrimp sambal. The chicken was tough, but had char and taste. The beef was stringy and could have done better with more gravy. Other items on the plate were dry and lacked the intensity of distinct flavors. The chili shrimp sambal was awesome, a perfect harmony of heat, taste and texture. Service was excellent.

I always enjoy a good Indonesian spot. Usually we have to drive out to the west side but this local gem makes our tastes buds satisfied. For starters you need to try their Oxtail Soup, which is Indonesian style fried oxtail soup, with boiled potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, leek, celery, fried shallots served together with padi oats chips on the side. The broth is filling and the meat is satisfying. The Ikan Goreng Kipas which is fried Tilapia is another great choice as the crisp is just right and the flavors are spot on. The Pompano which is Marinated and Grilled fish with turmeric and spices taste delicious, especially with the chili and added spices they provide. They have many other options but those are must try's. Service is awesome as Audrey and Lily are great and always helpful. They are always able to provide great recommendations if your lost in the food deliciousness. Parking is in the lot.

Great Indonesian food with friendly service :) We started off with the Bakwan Jagung (Indonesian Style Corn Fritter), which is fried, comes with sweet and sour sauce, and good for sharing. We took left overs home. The Nasi Ayam Goreng Kremes Komplit consisted of fried chicken (flavor tasted light), steamed rice, veggies and a small bowl of vegetable tamarind soup. The sambal terasi (chili with shrimp paste) was really good and added flavor to the dish. The grilled pompano fish was marinated with tumeric and spices and tasted on the lighter side. We ordered a side of rice to eat with it. The es cendol is a pandan jelly dessert with coconut milk, palm sugar, bits of jack fruit, and ice. It was refreshing and recommend ordering it later during your meal. We would love to come back to try other items on their menu. Located in a plaza with ample parking on the south side of Ventura Blvd. between Penfield Ave. & Oakdale Ave.

An Indonesian spot in the valley?! My mom and I had to check it out. It's a small spot with 6-7 tables of 4 squished in but it works. Put down our name at 6:24 on a Sunday end it was busy-- we waited 20-30 min as there was a waitlist (and they just opened in June - good for them!!) The employees were welcoming, but service was a bit slow - our table was skipped over when they were taking orders but I understand it can be hectic if there's not enough staff. Mie Goreng: noodles were on the saltier side, but the indomie flavors were certainly there. I would maybe give this another shot next time, though I was eyeing the specialty fried rice next time. Grilled Finish Pompano: THIS. THIS WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD. The seasoning and flavors was like a party in my mouth. I'm usually very iffy about fish due to the hassle but I really went all in for this one. Never have I ever cleaned a fish to the bone like I did this time LOL. The pepper paste on the side was also great. Cendol: Reminiscent of Vietnamese Chè Thái, but with a more jackfruit flavor which was perfect and not too overwhelming. Def coming back with other friends and family!! :D

Came here on a Friday around 7 pm. There was a small line that took about 20 minutes and they called us when the table was ready. The inside is pretty small and there was only one person attending to customers. There were some differences between the online menu and the physical menu so make sure you ask if something is available. My boyfriend and I decided to get the #2 risol bihun kulit lumpia (they were out of #1 bakwan jagung corn fritters), the #18 nasi tumpeng mini entree, and the #25 Soto betawi soup. My friend decided to get the #23 sayur asem vegetable soup and the es cendol dessert. It took a very long time to get the food, probably because it was a bit busy and it seemed like there were a few to-go orders as well. We were maybe waiting an hour or so? When my boyfriend and I got the food though, it was totally worth it. Unfortunately, my friend didn't like her soup that much. Her soup was very sweet and not very savory. It was piping hot and had good veggies but the sweetness was just not her thing. I've never had the soup before so I'm not sure if this was traditional and if it was, the dish just wasn't for us. I think the tamarind contributed to jt. The es cendol dessert was delicious! Super refreshing and we ended up getting this before the food. It helped tie us over as we waited. We also got the lumpia egg rolls. I was surprised that there was nothing inside but rice noodles. The inside was soft because if this and the outside was piping hot, crispy, and flaky. The sauce is what made this. Although delicious, I probably wouldn't get it again because I could make this at home and try to replicate the peanut sauce. My entree, the nasi tumpeng, was my favorite. It was a good sampler of different things to try including delicious and peanuty chicken sate, savory beef rendang, and crispy and slightly sweet orek tempeh. It also came with fried noodles, eggs, rice, and pickled onions and cucumbers. This was a flavor bomb with every bite and I loved eating the different items together. Everything went well together! Our soto betawi soup was also delicious and savory. Not as sweet as Thai Tom kha soup which is also coconut milk based but had all the fixings! There was meat, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Overall an excellent experience except for total wait time because we were starving. It does seem to be a family restaurant and I don't think they're not working hard, just might not have enough hands on deck to get orders out faster. But since there aren't many Indonesian options in the area and the food we ordered were still delicious, I'd recommend trying this place. Maybe avoid busy meal times and ask the server what their favorite item is or the most popular item if you're not sure. The staff were all very friendly so I think if you stick to non busy times you'd have a perfect experience!

Dry beef, dry chicken, cold rice and poor follow-up service. We had to wait 10 minutes for the remainder of of our orders to come. In the end, they offered complimentary ice cream, but it never made it out - we got tired of waiting and eventually left. We will not return!

The food was absolutely amazing. The variety of flavors are off the hook. If you get a chance, you have to try it very different than Thai food.

I went back with my older son after a great previous experience. Once again, they didn't disappoint. This time, it was so cold we both wanted some hot soup. Voila -- their meatball soup pictured below

This place was great. Never had Indinesian food before so we had a wonderful experience. Love trying new places and saw this on KTLA so we had to check it out. Definitely a mom and Pop shop. Super small spot and quaint. Food was delicious. Try the sample platter if you've never had Indonesian food before. Great intro to their dishes. We would definitely recommend this to people if they're looking for something new to try. Looks like they have vegan options as well. Unfortunately, I can't remember the dishes we ordered but here are some pics. Everything was yummy! Please check them out!

Have been here twice and each time both the service and food have been top notch. Highly recommend any dish with the fried chicken, the rendang, the pompano, and the corn fritters. And the ginger tea and passion tea are 10/10. Seriously amazing and the people are so sweet!

The food here is so delicious and unique - I keep thinking about it! For appetizer, highly recommend the corn fritters, called Bakwan Jagung. You get 4 in an order, which is more than 2 people need but hard to stop eating them! The Grilled Fish is outstanding! You have a choice of Pompano or Tilapia. Go for the Pompano - worth the extra $5. So delicious. It does have bones but if you pull the flesh off slowly and carefully, most of the bones remain behind. The spices they put on this and the way the cook it make it so very delicious! We like the noodle dish called Mie Goreng Jakarta but want to try others next time. This one has (a little) chicken in it, along with cabbage, scallions, onions, a fried egg, and pickled cucumbers. For us, this is a take-out place. They do have tables if you are looking for a Very casual vibe. The portions are generous and the leftovers are terrific the next day.

Indonesian food and service at its best. This small unassuming shop is the real deal for the complex flavors that needs to go into good Indonesian cuisine. Owners of course doing this to turn a profit and stay in business, but their love for Indonesian food and hospitality shows. I joined in a conversation with the owner and a couple at the next table who were friends with the owners of a recently closed Indonesian restaurant in San Francisco. We all lamented how there just isn't any decent Indonesian restaurants left in the Bay Area, only a handful of Malaysian restaurants - but the flavors just aren't as complex. I needed to ask for more sambal because they took my round eyes and pale complexion for someone who would be spice adverse. Pass me some sambal and I will forgive the sin.

Food was delicious! Service was speedy and friendly! Ambiance was casual and felt like home! Upon entering, we were quickly greeted and offered a seat at a table of our choosing along with water and physical menus. It was our first time here, so we figured we'd order items with the "thumbs up" on the menu. We tried to order the Risol Ayam, but it was sold out, so it was recommended to get the empanadas with noodles and meat inside served with a peanut sauce - I forgot the name. We also tried to order the Oxtail Soup, which was also sold out, so the Meatball Soup was offered as an alternative option. Fortunately, the Mie Goreng Jakarta was still available. All the food was perfectly cooked and super flavorful! The empanadas were crispy on the outside and tasted great when dipped in the savory peanut sauce. The noodles in the Mie Goreng Jakarta were well-coated with the savory sauce and paired nicely with the spicy sauce, sweet pickles, and shrimp chips. The soup was flavorful on its own, but was made even more flavorful with the lime, spicy sauce, and sweet sauce that was served on the side. Throughout our meal, multiple people approached our table to ask how the food tasted, offer extra sauces, provide suggestions on which foods to pair the sauces with and how to find a good balance of flavors, and even give us drinks that were imported from Indonesia on the house! Overall, this is a fantastic, seemingly family-run business that I will be coming back to often!

Great and unique food with amazing flavors and great service! Highly recommended when you're up for something different.

Again Laalaapan has impressed us and this time my entire family! My mom in law drove from Moorpark to grab food to go. They closed earlier on Wednesday but they were accommodating enough to wait a little longer in case my mom in law arrives a little late but thankfully she didn't. We ordered 2 orders of stay, 2 orders of rendang, bihun goreng, mee goreng Jakarta, 2 orders of gado gado, grilled fish, 2 orders of bakwan and all the food came out perfectly done! By the time I remembered to take pictures of the food, they were gone. Thank you again for the amazing service and food.

Pleasantly surprised by this casual Indonesian eatery! So happy to have small, independent restaurants with big flavors, which is the heart of our San Fernando Valley culture. We ordered #18 which let's you try a little of everything and we LOVED it. I can't wait to go back and eat more! Haha.
