‘Twisters’ Actor Glen Powell’s Dog Brisket Has the Perfect Pet Name | Eater Austin

"A Los Angeles animal rescue that facilitated the July 2023 adoption of a terrier–poodle mix by a film actor; the puppy quickly became an on-set companion, inspired a popular Instagram account (@hotbrisket), and even attended a Los Angeles premiere, underscoring the rescue’s impact in placing pets into prominent, caring homes." - Nadia Chaudhury

I'm writing this right now, crying in a fetal position because they took my foster puppy away without giving me any notice or allowing me to mentally prepare for her departure. I loved that foster baby she craved lots of attention and always wanted to be sleeping on me or right next to me and I’m heartbroken now she is cage and not in warm home with someone that never left her alone. I took her in when she was in really bad condition, and she quickly became like a baby to me. She was taken away abruptly and is probably feeling abandoned now my heart is bleeding for her 💔 Their truly don’t care about animals they only care about getting quick adoption fees and gaining followers. I made it clear from the beginning that I could never fully adopt again because losing my dog to cancer was the most painful experience of my life. I chose to foster to help other dogs while I work through my grief. While one puppy was adopted, my experience with the other has been incredibly traumatic. When I took her for a check-up, I was told I could no longer keep her because they needed to adopt her out soon. This felt sudden and unexpected.I feel like this experience has shown that they are in such a rush to take the puppy away from me because they receive higher adoption fees for younger puppies( $700) It seems more about the financial gain than finding the best homes for these dogs. When I asked why I wasn't informed earlier, they told me they didn't mention keeping her because they weren't sure if I would actually bring her. This was insulting and made me feel like this organization is more focused on making money than on finding the best homes for the dogs. For someone dealing with the trauma of unexpected loss, feels beyond disrespectful and ungrateful. I had been providing everything for the puppies out of my own pocket, cooking organic food and ensuring they received the best care. This organization has reopened wounds from my past by abruptly taking the puppy away from me without notice. It feels like all the progress I made in healing from my loss has been undone. This experience has left me feeling devastated, and I don't think I could ever foster again due to the emotional pain it has caused. I hope others have a better experience, but I feel it's crucial to share my story to help improve the process for future fosters.

Horrible experience. The staff handled the animals roughly (please see attached video that is now deleted from their public TikTok account of a dog seemingly being handled very roughly). It was heartbreaking to see how the animals were treated both on social media and in-person, shaken, dragged on leashes, forced into crates and cages with little care or compassion.

Love Labelle! They are an amazing organization that saves so many dogs and gives them beautiful lives! My family has been fostering for them for years and has witnessed firsthand their dedication and advocacy for animals in need! I’ve heard some criticism because of the “high fee”- but a) when you adopt a dog from Labelle they have been been vaccinated, sometimes spayed/ neutered- all things that would amount to MORE than the fee if adopted elsewhere. B) Labelle literally saves lives of dogs that other humans have given up on- I’ve personally fostered dogs with medical bills of upwards of $10,000. (All now living happy healthy lives!) And C) people need to realize that unlike shelters, Labelle is not subsidized by the government. So it literally operates off the donations of kind hearted people. I can’t express enough what an amazing organization Labelle is. So many humans have found their furry soulmates all thanks to the WONDERFUL people at Labelle!!

We became first time foster parents with Labelle, and this experience could not be any worse. When we went to Labelle to pick up our first foster dog, we weren't given any information. I did not know as first time foster parents, we are not allowed to adopt our first foster dog. We weren't given anything in writing about how the foster process works. Weeks later, we then received the info via text. I didn't even know I could go back for more dog food/treats. On Day 1, I noticed the dog was recently spayed and her lower part of the incision was open and drained. I am a nurse, and I knew it wasn't normal and immediately notified Labelle. Labelle just told us to keep an eye on it. After a few days, I noticed no improvement, and they finally let us take her in. All they did was giving us a cone. A few days later, it was still not getting better. It took us a few tries to finally get them to agree for her to see their in-house vet. Thankfully, after a course of antibiotics and daily wound care, her incision healed. We had to take her back when the time came, and it was the most bizarre experience. My partner arrived at the scheduled time, but our coordinator wasn't there. He met with the new adopter outside, and handed the dog to them. I expected Labelle to report the recent change in the dog medical history to the new foster but they didn't show up. I handed a note of the dog's likes and dislikes to my partner and he handed it to the new foster. I think that's the only information the new foster received. When we asked about potential adopters, they said they would ask us to bring the dog to meet and greets. During the 4 weeks we had her, we weren't invited to any events. Were they really helping her get adopted? We were also told anyone interested, even though they are friends/families, they have to go through Labelle to meet the dog. We were also told we are not allowed to meet potential adopters. What? The fosters know the dog's temperaments best, and we are not allowed to help in the adoption process? Do they really care about their dogs? If you are considering fostering, please go somewhere else.

I’m heartbroken by my experience with this foundation. I took in a sweet girl to foster and I was given zero information…nothing. As I was leaving, they casually mentioned she wasn’t spayed. I had another dog at home — thankfully also female — but they never even asked. Within hours, she showed clear medical issues. Despite claims of two vet checks, she was in heat (which they denied), had active fleas (I found them on my face and blankets), was struggling with incontinence, and had two untreated ear infections. When I raised concerns and even offered to take her to the vet at my own expense, they refused, claiming only they could access her medical records. I’ve never heard of a foundation denying free medical care for a suffering animal — it was absurd. I was bewildered that they seemed more concerned I might “keep the records” than actually getting her treated. It made no sense. The absence of transparency, support, and basic compassion was not just disappointing — it was inexcusable. This innocent dog deserved safety, stability, and real care, not to be passed around so carelessly! What I experienced was neglect disguised as rescue. No animal should suffer from such carelessness, and no foster should be left heartbroken.

I had a great experience with the Labelle Foundation and I am so thankful for them!! I rescued a beautiful dog from the shelter who was about to be euthanized, and to my surprise, found out she was pregnant two weeks later and was due to give birth any day. The shelter adopted her out to me without informing me she was pregnant, so I was shocked to discover this and completely unprepared to have so many puppies in my small apartment!! I reached out to the Labelle Foundation to see if they could help. They graciously took in Georgia and her 11 puppies, and are in the process of finding all of the puppies forever homes now! We have our Georgia back now and she is doing great, as well as her puppies with their fosters until they find permanent homes. Thanks to the Labelle Foundation we were able to keep Georgia from going back to a shelter while also providing a safe place for her and her puppies. The Labelle Foundation came to the rescue in this situation and I will forever be grateful for them!

I may not have gotten my puppy in the typical way from the Labelle Foundation. I’m a delivery driver and one of my customers was fostering my now puppy. I fell in love with her, my customer put me in contact with someone from Labelle and 2 days later she was mine. Millie my 3 month old Pit Bull mix is a sweetheart. I couldn’t be happier with her, her foster mom was amazing and she’s been helping me a lot. Now Victoria who works with Labelle was just helpful enough up until the moment we paid our $700. “Here’s the contract, here’s the link to pay” and that was sort of it. I wanted to get her spayed as soon as possible and had trouble getting a reply as to what time and where to go. After going through Millie’s foster mom to finally get a reply from Victoria, it was all set. Well…I took a day off work for this and the vet said “our surgeon is on vacation for 2 weeks, we sent them all an email” wether that’s true or not, it doesn’t matter because Millie is 3 months old and way too young to be spayed. I didn’t know that…Victoria should’ve. A wasted day and starved my puppy for nothing. Labelle seems like a wonderful foundation helping find homes for dogs but she makes it hard to recommend them knowing someone else might be stuck working with her.

I love Labelle! Best rescue in Los Angeles. I personally know the staff and i was pleased to see how much they care for the dogs and everything they do for them!
