We were recommended to visit this restaurant, known for its signature beef cuts. Two days before our visit, I emailed to change the reservation from two to four guests. Having received no reply, I called the next day (i.e. the day before our visit) and the change was confirmed by phone.
However, upon our arrival, as we were taking our seats, the manager came over and abruptly asked, “Who made the reservation!?". I explained the email exchange and the phone confirmation. No apology followed, only a dismissive “Anyway, we would have accommodated you.” The attitude was unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming.
The dinner itself did not reflect the expectations we had and the reviews we read; the meat was of decent quality, though not exceptional enough to justify the price. The presentation of the dishes was rather plain and unappealing (just few lettuce next to the meat) , while no sauces were offered, which would have added value on the dish. The pork dish (pluma), served dry and without sauce, was particularly disappointing, while the carpaccio was overly salty and presented in a questionable manner. The wine, however, was good. Fortunately, the rest of the staff was pleasant and attentive, which helped make the experience a bit more enjoyable despite the poor welcome.
Overall, we left disappointed by the unpleasant first impression and felt that the overall experience was just average. A pity, as the place had been recommended. Personally I don't recommend the L'abraise and will not return.
