This was a great hike up a beautiful lonely mountain. We took progressively primitive roads to the west side and then made our way up a path to the hogback. Then it was a matter of getting up on to the ridge to the right/south. Some bushwhacking and scrambling up talus got us there. Next we went straight up to the official ridge that includes the benchmark summit (the highest point) and Ladron summit. From there we traveled north along the ridge over several false summits until we reached the benchmark summit. Did not attempt to continue to the east Ladron summit as it is said to be class 3. Returned more or less the way we came. It took us 4 hours up and 4 hours down.

Big, free standing mountain, isolated in the back-country of NM Can see it from many miles away in an airplane. Good to use for navigation.

Very difficult hike coming in from the north. Lots of scrub oak and cliffs.

A great place to go geocaching but beware. If you go on to the mountain is bush wracking with no trail to the top . Mickey
