Hayes Valley Brunch Spot Laguna Closes After a Year in Business - Eater SF

"Laguna, a brunch-focused restaurant at the corner of Hayes and Laguna Streets, opened to some fanfare in January of 2019. A little more than a year later, the spot has gone dark, Hoodline reports, the third restaurant at that address to shutter since 2016. It’s unclear what went wrong at Laguna, as passers-by say that the place seemed busy and its owners, Brian Stafford and David Kleinberg (a veteran of Michael Mina, Chez Maman, and Doppio Zero), have nearly 35 combined years of experience in the industry. Explaining why Laguna would specialize in brunch back in November of 2018, Stafford told Eater SF that “I’ve always loved breakfast and brunch and food in general, long before the “foodie” term came about,” but said that most local brunch spots were “kind of half-assed.” Laguna, he said, would “be on par with Nopa and Outerlands,” and served a wide-ranging menu that included a caprese salad, beignets, and mahi ceviche. This week, Stafford confirmed the spot’s closure to Hoodline, but declined to offer additional comment. But if Laguna’s walls could talk, they might likely say “What? Again?” as its 602 Hayes Street address has been home to three restaurants since 2016: Forget Me Not Cafe (2014-2016), Meatball Bar (eight months in 2018) and now, Laguna. At present, no permits have been filed by any brave restaurateurs eager to move into the space, but if they do, they’d be well advised to employ a heavy hand with the sage." - Eve Batey

Very friendly bartender. That squid!! So yummy. Cauliflower was delicious! Burger with a runny yolks egg. Can't go wrong. :)

Got there upon opening, Service was friendly and greeted promptly. We asked the food to be staggered and was done perfectly and delicious. Great lil spot to check out!

Started off with a HUGE mimosa and the. The table had a coupe plates of pulled pork hash, an egg sando, and I had the chicken and waffles. If I had to choose again, I’d go with the pulled pork with sunny side up eggs on top :)

I love the artwork it's beautiful, my sister got the pot roast hash and loved it, she also said they hot sauce was tobasco for those of you who like hot sauce on your eggs. The avacado in mine was very good, I would have looked a little more 🍋 with it but all in all, very tasty.

Had a great brunch on Saturday, no wait, and attentive service. Food was fantastic. Laguna Burger, egg tower, and pulled pork hash were all delicious and reasonably priced. Nice drink selection and full bar. Six beers on tap. Highly recommend!

Service was great. Food was good. The beignets were pretty doughy for my personal taste. Had it with lavender cream and chocolate dip. Both were good but not the taste or consistency youd expect. Great venue and vibe. Would come back for the cocktails. Costs to food portion ratio is a little higher, but not unforgiving

It's a four way tie between the lamb burger, fish sando, brunch burger, or the lobster grilled cheese for my favorite thing here! I'm legitimately concerned for my wallet after trying this place a few times. it's so good. Even the little things like the tomato bisque or the house-made English muffins are incredible! Looking forward to trying more brunch items next time!
