Until today I have relied on the handful of perfectly satisfactory lahmajoun spots in Hollywood and had never ventured out of my routine to explore other options. Recently I've been in a position that requires me to drive from the Hollywood area to the Van Nuys area a few times a week, and I spotted this tiny storefront on one of these drives. It took me a couple of more drive-bys to find it again, and I was curious and sort of excited to stop in. To begin with, I was pleasantly surprised that they were still open and welcoming at 5 pm! Once I stepped inside
my first thought was that the shop was so lovely and bright that it couldn't possibly be as authentic as the somewhat dingy, serious looking spots I was used to in Hollywood. Next, I was warmly greeted by a young man named Vako , another red flag, initially, because it would be a strtch to say I've ever received "warmth" from any employee or owner from my usual "go-to" Lahmajoun places, therefor I've always just considered it normal to expect no personal connections when buying lahmajouns:)
Not only was I wrong about not measuring up in authenticity, but the superior taste and quality of the lahmajoun at Lahmajo House, and the amazing attitude of Vako will have me stopping here often. In fact it is now going to be my new "go-to" 100%!
Oh, and don't be confused by the spelling of the name of this shop....there are many ways to spell lahmajoun, I learned today from Vako , but there could only one way to make them this delicious! Their way!
