Lakay Bistro - Review - Bedford-Stuyvesant - New York - The Infatuation

"Lakay Bistro is a Haitian, Caribbean, and American fusion restaurant in Bed-Stuy. In the evening, they’re serving things like baked mac and cheese with oxtails, Cajun-Creole shrimp, and rum punch. They’ll eventually be open during the day too, serving coffee and pastries." - Willa Moore

Late Friday night vibe. My girl and I had a couple of appetizers. We did the bronze have some drinks the rum punch shaking the room Waitress was very pleasant and willing to explain all the food to us. The pricing wasn’t bad and the portion of food was just the right amount was able to take a doggy bag back home and enjoy it for a second time around. Got to say that I was able to listen to music and be able to talk at the same time. Would like to know what a Saturday vibe is going to be like.

Randomly came across this restaurant on google maps and so happy I did! The food was incredible!! We had akra, oxtail Mac, lamb chops, and kale salad. All of which was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. It appears everything is made to order so it did take a little while but was worth the wait.

My wife, daughter and I went for dinner here and it was fantastic. We were really excited to see a place open up nearby that served Caribbean food and we were blown away. We ordered the chicken and waffles, cajun-creole shrimp & grits, the griot bites, as well as the Akira and the Branzino. We also had some cocktails and my daughter had a mocktail (oh and dessert was fantastic too!). The cocktails are incredible. The branzino and griot bites were standouts, but it was all amazing. Service was great, everyone was friendly, and the place had a really nice and welcoming feel to it. We'll definitely be back.

This place is a real gem. A true hidden highlight of Brooklyn. Tremendous vibes. Tremendous staff. The food and drinks are out of this world.

I walk past this place every day and I was so excited to finally try it once it opened. The margaritas and Love Potion No. 9 were soooo good. We also had the smoked herring w/ plantain and oxtail Mac n cheese which made my Caribbean heart so happy! The real star of the show was the duck and waffles. The duck was so crispy and savory while the waffles were fluffy and sweet! Joe and the other owners were incredibly nice. This place will definitely be my new go to spot in the neighborhood

Came for dinner during soft opening with a friend. Walking in, the vibe was cozy and the scent of some serious cooking enveloped us. We ordered what was available on the menu, yes all of it. For me the stand out was the shrimp and grits followed by the oxtail Mac and cheese. Full of flavor and great texture to both dishes. Definitely will come back and excited to see the menu expand. There was only one server at the time and she was very sweet and accommodating to our needs. Thank yall!

I attended the soft opening and had an amazing experience! The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was full of flavor and perfectly prepared. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, even with how busy it was. You could really feel the great energy and excitement in the space. Can’t wait to go back again to experience the full menu!

I dropped on a Friday evening. My partner and I were delighted to try and wanted to order some entrees to go. Was able to order promptly and the bartender (polite guy) informed that it would be 20 minutes… no problem. I ran an errand, came back and waited a few more minutes (10) No problem. He mentioned that they were waiting on the other entree. After another 20 minutes, I was informed that the machine was broken and if I would like anything else. After waiting 50 minutes, I didn’t want to wait any longer and left. Things happen, no problem, but waiting this long with nothing but a half hearted apology leaves a bad impression.

Yelp
Total happenstance stumbling upon this new restaurant (opened the day before) in my neighborhood. 1st and foremost: it's pretty but ambiance isn't everything. They were still working out their menu and offered sampler plates and if that's any indication of what's to come......consider me a repeat customer, cause i WILL be back. Welcome to the neighborhood Lakay Bistro. You'll be my new favorite spot!

Yelp
I ended my birthday weekend with dinner at Lakay Bistro and I am pleasantly pleased as well as proud. The owners Ali and Steve were extremely hospitable. The decor is beautiful and you get a nice vibe when you enter. The space is very nice size and I am grateful they've made their home in Bed Stuy. I will be going back soon. The oxtails w/mac n cheese was tasty and delicious. I also had the branzino with black rice. All well cooked and delicious. Don't forget to ask for Pikiz. Just yummy food.

Yelp
Happened to stop by during their soft opening. With any new place there will always be kinks and understanding that they are still getting their footing. I was able to give them feedback in person as well which just helps them improve and prepare for the grand opening. Upon arrival the place was packed and I was surprisingly able to get a table right away. Nice minimal decor with wicker lamps. I was surprised at the amount of seating so that was good. Tables and bar seating in the front and additional tables and a bench in the back. Because it was a soft opening they were providing limited food items. They had a special where you can get 3 small bite items for $25. I was told that they only had the griot bites on tostones with spicy honey creole glaze and baked mac and cheese with oxtails so that's what I ordered and a rum punch. As I was waiting I kept seeing the tamarind rum chicken as well as djon djon rice (not on menu) being served. For clarity I asked again about the $25 deal and if the chicken was available. The waiter said the only additional item available was the conch. Then he came back to say they don't have that. To capitalize on the deal I ordered an extra mac n cheese with oxtails since they were out of the other options. I also asked to switch the tostones with djon djon rice after I was informed that it could be substituted. The griot and mac n cheese came out first. Which arrived with the tostones instead of the rice. The extra mac and rice arrived and the waiter comped the charge of the rice since it was supposed to be a substitution and not a side. All of this was going on and I still hadn't received my drink, which I ordered before my food. Overall the food was tasty. The djon djon rice had a nice heat to it. The mac n cheese had a good flavor as well. The amount of oxtails vary. You might just get one big piece or 3 small pieces. I asked for pikliz but they didn't have any. The rum punch was good and strong but not worth $15 for the glass size and the amount of ice they give. All this is happening and I kept seeing chicken being served. The table next to me received a double portion of chicken because they then ran out of griot. Lastly it took 30+ minutes to get a to-go box and additional time to get the check. I love that you can pay your bill from your phone but if that's the case it shouldn't take forever to get the bill. This happened to me and multiple tables. My bill needed to be adjusted to reflect the djon djon rice deduction. The food is good but the kitchen and waiters need to correspond. There is a difference between being told that something is sold out versus they will need additional time to prep. The bar is a bit slow. Again not a bad experience just a few kinks as they are new.

Yelp
Amazing place, from the decor/energy to the drinks and cuisine. New place, but the food is already amazing and they're expanding the menu according to the staff. Very nice place, coming back soon!
