"The term “scarcity” gets used a lot in the world of economics, and according to my state school education, the definition is when the value of a resource is determined by its availability in relation to how many people want or need it. Let’s apply that concept to this review. Here, the resource is “a restaurant that isn’t awful near Penn Station,” and according to the amount of times we get asked about such a thing every day, there are a whole lot of people who want or need it. L’Amico takes great economic advantage of some scarcity. Not that there aren’t other restaurants in this area - this is actually the second dining establishment to open in the lobby of the Eventi Hotel, also home to Lupulo. But scarcity isn’t about how many restaurants there are in a certain area. It’s about how many good ones there are. And Lupulo just isn’t very good. L’Amico, however, is very good, and whoever conceptualized this restaurant is very familiar with both what the average New Yorker wants, and what this part of town definitely does not have - an aestethically pleasing restaurant that serves food that people like to eat. Like pasta. And pizza. And gelato. I also seem to remember from my state school economics class that anytime you replace a vowel with an apostrophe in the name of a business, revenues increase by 28%. It’s called the L’Artusi law. That said, value correlates with availability, and if you were to put L’Amico in another part of town where restaurants with apostrophes in their names are in no short supply, it wouldn’t be so valuable. While the food here is definitely good, and the room is visually appealing, it gets extremely cramped during dinner hours. The bar is also very small and serves mediocre cocktails, and for some reason the dinner crowd consists mostly of Upper East Side women who look up to Bethenny Frankel and dress like Indiana Jones when they go out. Our advice would be to use it whenever you find yourself in need of something near Penn Station that won’t make you sad, or anytime you can get out of your Midtown office in the middle of the day for a proper meal and maybe a glass of wine - L’Amico is at its best during lunch. Then again, an occasion like that might be scarce, too. Food Rundown Burrata On our visits, this burrata was served with black truffles. If you’re lucky, it still will be when you visit. No safer order could possibly exist on a restaurant menu. Octopus This octopus is baked instead of grilled, which you’re probably more familiar with, but you’ll hardly notice a difference. It’s octopus as you know it, served with some crushed potatoes that might actually be the best thing on the plate. Tuna Crudo Bright red, raw tuna squares, served with pickled beets. Proceed. Brussels Sprouts & Salsify Salad Salsify is sort of like celery, except that it’s not disgusting. Here it makes for a nice mix-in to liven up an otherwise standard plate of sprouts. Pizza We’ve had several good pizzas at L’Amico. There’s a vegetable-focused charred kale pie that is pretty tasty, a sausage pizza with shredded shishito peppers on top, and a special pomodoro version that was available as a special on our first visit that was the best of the bunch. Moral of the story: get a pizza. Regardless of what’s on top, the crust is good enough to keep you happy. Fusilli Served with spicy sausage, this is our favorite pasta on the L’Amico menu and it should make an appearance on your table. Roasted Spiced Duck Breast A really nice piece of duck, which is pretty much the only thing we can ever think to say about duck. Order this instead of the chicken if you have a soul." - Chris Stang

"L’Amico isn’t serving their wood-fired pizzas on Thanksgiving, but that’s OK for a couple reasons. First, it’s Thanksgiving - eat pizza any other day. And second, the main draw at this Nomad Italian spot in the Eventi Hotel is its space, which you can enjoy inside the spacious dining room, or in a curtained cabana out front. The $72 prix-fixe includes appetizers and family-style sides, as well as a wood-fired turkey with stuffing and gravy, and your choice of pie." - team infatuation

"Perfect For: Lunch, Dinner You just sat around for a few hours in Madison Square Garden while the dean of something gave a mostly-recycled speech, then handed out some slips of paper. Now it’s time to get some lunch or dinner with everyone who came to watch this strange ritual unfold, and you suspect that Italian food will go over well. Make a reservation at L’Amico. This place has high ceilings, big windows, and plenty of room for groups, and everyone can have a pizza or a plate of pasta here." - bryan kim, katherine lewin, matt tervooren

Location, food, ambience and service all are fantastic. Appetizers were excellent as compared to main entrees. We had vegetarian guests in the party and they had good options for them like raviolis in main and lots of appetizers. Most of the Appetizers were very good as compared to the mains - must try Bruschetta with fresh cut figs was excellent, burrata also very fresh in taste plus the presentation was beautiful! Yellow tail was excellent with a clear tangy lemon like sauce, salad was regular nothing special but good and fresh. Main entrees were good but we didn’t like as much. The whole fish Bronzino was grilled crisp with skin on and head off but the sauce was a lot like a soup and watery not possible to eat without asking for spoon as it was the consistency of a thin soup but don’t get me wrong very delicious more on the tangy side. No side at all - no veggies, no starch nothing comes with the fish. Ravioli entrees were smaller portions and not impressive, we ordered it as it was one of the few choices for vegetarian entrees. Other seafood mix entree was a mix of seafood with lobster meat in white sauce and not that impressive as well for the price. No side in any entrees other than chicken. Chicken entree was the best: made to perfection and served with broccolini with a side of starch - great job. All entrees were smaller portions and ranged from $35 to $45 (seafood on the $40+ price range) (with zero side no presentation, no vegetables no starch nothing on the side). Unimpressed. Desserts amazingly nice large portions! Shareable definitely with beautiful presentation.

Great ambiance, I had two appetizers, one entree, one espresso martini (that was awesome, don't miss it) and a glass of wine. The food was perfectly executed (maybe the best braised short rib and creamy polenta I ever had) the flavors and techniques were on point. Special shout-out to my server Jorge, made the night even better, very warm attention, very knowledgeable about all the items and the menu, he helped me chose and he nailed it. Thanks, I'll definitely come back.

The foods are great, especially the scallops, very tender and not fishy at all, pretty well seasoned. 😋 the skirt steak is pretty good too, not chewy at all , very soft( I also like the mashed potato under the steak, quite creamy). Their tiramisu is also quite light creamy, but the portion is like for two. The only thing I'm a little disappointed is the table are too close to each other, if you have a jacket or a bag that's hanging on the chair, when people pass by it will keep falling because that's how tight the spaces are 😕

We made a reservation, hoping for a great meal with visiting family. Our experience went beyong our initial expectations. The staff is amazing - from the moment we reached, we were welcomed with superb service. Our waiter, Roberto, was stellar. The food, delicious - the mushroom and truffle pizza, became a favorite, the salad and tortellini, so delicate and subtly flavorful. The tiramisu was to die for, and the cocktails, crafted to please. Will be back, without doubt. Highly recommended.

My friend and I stumbled upon L'Amico while searching for Italian food near the Flatiron. At first, it looked promising with its upscale decor, elegant atmosphere, and promising menu. The restaurant was dim-lit with comfortable and intimate seating. The kitchen was visible throughout the restaurant and the staff was friendly. We had a short wait to sit and got our orders in quick. We ordered the Eggplant Caponata Bruschetta and the White Mushroom Pizza. The bruschetta was pretty good with seasoned mozzarella and sauteed eggplant topped with pine nuts. It was a solid appetizer that I would order again. After this, though, everything went downhill. That mushroom pizza was probably one of the worst I have ever had. It was topped with so much mushroom that I could barely taste anything else. It felt like I was just eating a heap of raw mushroom, leaving a terrible taste in my mouth. The cheese was also different, which is ok, but there was no warning on the menu that the cheese may have a unique (stinkier) flavor profile. We only ate two slices before asking for the check. Though the restaurant is upscale, the food did not live up to its potential. The prices were way too high for the small portions and lack of quality. The dollar slice we had after was ten times better than the $27 pizza we had at L'Amico. I probably won't come here again. 3/5 stars.

If you’re craving some seriously good Italian eats, L’Amico is a good place. Let’s talk about their grilled octopus first - it’s so tender and has just the right amount of char to make every bite amazing. Moving on to desserts, their tiramisu is super creamy and just sweet enough. And you’ve got to try the black currant sorbetti; it’s a bit tart and totally refreshing (my favorite flavor). The vibe here is really cool, good for date night or dinner with your besties.

What a good experience on a Sunday night ! We came for a quick drink and a small bite , we sat at the bar and the experience was great! Our bartender was so welcoming and he recommended us a couple things on the menu so we ended up trying more things and everything was great, and the drinks even better! You gotta try the special espresso martini !

As we walked by this restaurant, its exterior was remarkably appealing, catching our attention immediately. Intrigued, we decided to give it a try, and we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. The ambiance inside was charming, and the staff were not only friendly but also very attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish. I highly recommend adding this restaurant to your list of places to visit while in New York. With its inviting atmosphere, delightful cuisine, and top-notch service, it's sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who dines there.
