"When you visit Acadia National Park, you should stare at a few birds. And when you go to Costco, it’s important that you hoard samples and drag race your cart through a furniture aisle. That’s how you make the most of those places - and there’s a similar strategy if you want to have a truly memorable meal at Lamoon. But instead of birdwatching or making vrooming sounds, it involves ordering various pig parts. Lamoon is a cash-only, BYOB restaurant in Elmhurst, and it’s just one small room with a handful of tables and murals on the walls. It specializes in Northern Thai food, and after looking at the menu for roughly 2.5 seconds, you’ll realize that meat - and specifically, pork - is a very big deal here. There’s liver, brain, blood, and spine, for example, and if you prioritize the dishes involving those parts, you’ll be rewarded. Start with the Northern Thai sausage made of pork, herbs, chilies, and tiny bits of ivory-colored pig ear that stick out like brides at weddings. It’s crumbly and aromatic (with plenty of makrut lime and lemongrass), and the ear provides crunch and texture the way a few potato chips do in a bologna sandwich. Follow this sausage with a bowl of soup. The kanom jeen nam ngeaw, with its mildly sour broth and dice-sized cubes of pork blood, is a great choice - but the leng soup is even better. It’s a bowl of citrusy broth with enough heat to keep your hand hovering near your water glass, and it comes with a massive mound of pork spine covered in cilantro, chives, and green chili. Tackle the chunks of spine just like they’re ribs, make use of the wet naps on the side, and take a moment or two to appreciate how the juicy meat falls off the bones like it didn’t really want to be there in the first place. At this point, you might (fairly) assume that vegetarians will feel lost, alone, and confused at this place where pork products are listed on the menu like they’re salt and pepper. But there are actually a good number of things you can get without meat, including some very good pad see ew with chewy tapioca balls and a creamy Northern red curry with whole red grapes. These dishes aren’t as exciting as the meat-heavy stuff, but if you live in the area, we fully encourage you to stop by for some weeknight noodles. Just be aware that if you leave without consuming a part of a pig you can’t find at Trader Joes, you aren’t taking full advantage of this place. Eat a few chunks of pork spine, feed a friend some pork blood, and chew on a piece of pig ear while you think about the past year of your life and wonder if it might’ve been improved by more pig ear (the answer is yes). These are the most delicious and unique things at Lamoon - and they’re the main reasons why you should pick up a bottle of wine, and have dinner here tonight. Food Rundown Leng Soup What you’re looking at here is a massive pile of pork spine in a thin, citrusy broth with the amount of parsley, chives and green chili you’d apply to a dish if a cookbook said to “make it rain.” You pick up the bones and eat them like ribs (there are wet naps on the side), and the tender meat falls right off the bone. This is our go-to order at Lamoon, and, as long as you enjoy spicy things, it should be yours as well. Khao Soi If you’re looking for a one-bowl meal that’s significantly less spicy than the leng soup, the khao soi is a great option. The broth is light and coconutty, with some chewy noodles at the bottom and crispy ones on top. We like it with seafood (calamari, shrimp, and mussels), but you can also get it with tofu, chicken, or beef. Kanom Jeen Nam Ngeaw Do need more iron in your diet? If so, order this soup. And if not, you should still order this soup. It’s rich and a little sour, with chunks of bone-in pork and little cubes of pork blood with the consistency of firm tofu. Toss all the pickled vegetables on top, give it a squirt of lime, and don’t forget about the noodles at the bottom. Nam Prik Ong Here’s the perfect opportunity to use a piece of pork to eat more pork. This is a spicy pork dip with raw vegetables and pork rinds on the side, and you should treat both of these things like edible utensils. Jackfruit Salad This is a salad in the sense that egg salad is a salad, and we’re very ok with this. The jackfruit is soft and warm, with ground pork, tomatoes, and chopped herbs, like chives and lemongrass, mixed in. We usually prefer the Nam Prik Ong (it has a little more spice and flavor), but this is still a good way to start your meal. Sai Aua We could spend about 20 minutes just staring at a cross section of this sausage, thinking about everything going on inside. It’s incredibly flavorful and surprisingly light and crumbly, and those tiny white pieces you see inside are chewy bits of pig ear. Pearl Pad See Ew The pad see ew here comes with little balls of tapioca. Other than that, it’s a fairly standard version of the dish, and no one will complain about having it on the table. Fried Rice Egg Wrap One thing you don’t really need at Lamoon is the fried rice. Is it bad? Of course not. It just isn’t particularly exciting, and there are so many other things you should be eating here." - Bryan Kim

"In this week’s Hungry City, Ligaya Mishan writes a dispatch on Lamoon, an Elmhurst Thai restaurant where the chef Arada Moonroj is cooking in a restaurant for the first time. Moonroj, who runs the restaurant with her husband, makes dishes like nam prik, larb neua, and khao soi based on memories from her hometown. The result is 'thoughtful, detailed cooking,' Mishan writes." - Serena Dai

Lived in Thailand for ten years. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in all of Maryland. Some dishes are slightly better/more authentic than others, but everything is good to really good.

Ordered via Uber eats and extremely dissapointed in the quality and taste of food. This is supposed to be Pad Thai but they use regular noodles instead of flat dried noodles and the taste is not good. Also ordered Thai ice tea with boba but boba is all clumped together and hard to eat/drink. Portion size was small for the cost. Do not recommend this place.

Google
Food was excellent. I ordered carryout, so my in restaurant experience was limited, but it looked like it had just recently opened but would be a very nice place to dine for casual eating. I ordered the beef salad extra spicy, and it was bursting with flavor, but not as spicy as I had expected given that "extra spicy" is the highest spice level they had and my mouth wasn't numb nor my eyes watering or nose running. I also ordered a mango and sticky rice that was very good, but not very large given the $6.50 price tag. It is definitely worth another visit and a dine in experience.

Google
There’s other places that are better. I took a chance but have regrets. Why is the mango sticky rice green and a block??? Also the drunk noodles we’re so mushy the texture was inedible

Google
First time we ordered here was absolutely delicious and we were so excited thinking we found our new local spot. Our second time ordering, we got 2 pad see ew’s, which was delicious the first time. Unfortunately the broccoli in it was rancid. Not just rotten and past its best due date, we spat it out. Upon inspection it was brown and mushy. We reached out and the owner said to send photos and they’d comp us a meal. Awesome! We sent photos, but never heard back. Fast forward 2 weeks, we decide to call in to order again, and made sure to confirm our credit was in place. The owner claimed our food was not rotten and they would not be honouring their aforementioned credit for inedible food. Very disappointed as when it’s fresh, it’s delicious, unfortunately they feel it’s ok to not only serve rotten food, but to not make it right by their customers. Do not recommend!

Google
One of the best Thai restaurants in Maryland and DC area! Tastes very authentic, bursts of flavor, you can request for spicy and great friendly atmosphere. We ordered the Pad Kee Mao Tofu, Duck Noodle Soup, Pad Kra Pow and Som Tum (Papaya Salad).

Sam Lee

Google
They have a great lunch special where you can choose 1-3 pre-made items served with rice. There was 6 entree items to choose from, which changes day to day. Definitely worth checking out for the value, plus the food, staff and environment was great!

Google
Really authentic and delicious Thai food. The pad woon sen was really spicy but so mouthwatering yummy. The drunken noodles had great flavor but the noodles didn't seem as good as Amina Thai. The yellow curry's sauce was pretty good but the chicken felt a little overcooked. The rice in the mango sticky rice was so creamy yet chewy in the most elegant way. Portion sizes felt a little small but overall very tasty! Possibly increase portion and pricing accordingly ;)

Yelp
Came by for my Too Good To Go (excellent app to reduce food waste and eat out for cheap) which was easy to order ahead of the time through the app. Restaurant was casual with plenty of space. Fun decor with tropical flower themes and also lots of cats. The servers put together my bowl with fresh rice, chicken, and vegetables quickly. I street parked in front of the restaurant with no issue. Food was delicious and flavorful. One thing to note is there's no option to customize the food if you purchase through TGTG since they provide whatever is available on surplus that day. I did find my food to be quite spicy, but the flavors made it worthwhile.

Yelp
Came here with my wife and mother in law a couple of years ago on a Groupon in 2020 right before the pandemic and again on Uber Eats in 2022 and we can't find the receipt that far back to remember what we ordered. The food was delicious and we ordered from here again and loved it. The booths were also comfy and service was great in 2020. We look forward to dining in here and ordering from here more soon as it has been over 2 years.

Yelp
I ordered take-out a day before, and pick-up was pretty smooth. The food was ready on time, and the friendly server brought it to me right away. Finding street parking would be a bit difficult as this street is always busy and congested. The portion was reasonable, considering the price. I haven't seen duck curry at other Thai places so I decided to try. It was flavorful and interesting, but the rice was pretty dry. Spring rolls were small like lumpia, fresh and crispy. The filling was okay, but I tasted more under-seasoned cellophane noodles. The shrimp and pork wontons in the soup were great, but the soup was significantly under seasoned. As other reviews are relatively positive, I expected better meals; however, my choices were inconsistent and didn't bring me a great impression.

Yelp
I've enjoyed the Too Good To Go specials - usually some kind of noodles with chicken and veg and a feisty spice level. But everything I had when dining in - from the Tom Yum soup to the spicy beef herb - was, and I'm sorry to say it, unacceptable. I've had many Tom Yum soups in my life, but never one as sweet and cloying. The beef came with a shocking amount of salt and was doused in an overwhelming sauce. The one star I'm giving is for service. I miss the old days of the Thai grocery in this spot, with a few prepared foods to go.

Yelp
*This is a To Go Order Review* Food. It's rare to get a compliment on a restaurant from my husband, but this one got it! He ordered the drunken noodles and loved it. They listened when he requested to have some items removed from the order. His noodles were perfectly spicy. I liked my Panang curry as well! A good decision on our parts. Service. To go order - so just my home! Ambiance. To go order - so just my home! Would be interested to see how the restaurant is however.

Yelp
A delicious lunch special and amazing Thai tea. The service is great. I accidentally ordered at the wrong place and they actually called the other restaurant and canceled my order. Their lunch special comes with fried Thai rice, salad and 2 spring rolls for $13.95 with taxes. The ambiance is really cute and they have pictures of food around tables so you know what to expect.

Jasmine N.

Yelp
I ordered delivery here through door dash this past weekend. I ordered the drunken noodles and the crab Rangoon spring rolls. The crab Rangoon spring rolls were very good. The filling is very yummy with a hint of old bay to make it a real DMV appetizer. The drunken noodles were good, however, fair warning, they are SPICY! I am not a weakling in terms of spice and always ask they keep the normal spice on my noodles but their normal was extra spicy! I loved the flavor but it was so spicy I couldn't fully enjoy it. So if you order it and want a medium spicy I say definitely make sure you put that in the request. But if you love extra spicy then these are for you! Despite the noodles being extremely spicy, I'd order from them again. The flavors were still very good. I just know which spice level to specify now!

Dani G.

Yelp
I ordered takeout after searching for a Thai place that actually gives you spice. After reading the reviews I decided to order the Drunken Noodles from here. Usually when I order Drunken Noodles or Panang Curry I have to ask for extra spicy and still it's not very spicy. WELL HAVE NO FEAR. After ordering the Drunken Noodles here my mouth is on fire in the best way lol. But please, do not order if you do not like spice. I finished eating about 5 minutes ago and my mouth is still quite hot lol. Trying to drink some cranberry juice to tamper it down. The food is very good and the portions are size-able, but again, beware, this is not for the faint of taste buds.

Anthony S.

Yelp
Poor costumer service. Bad food quality at times. Not kind to loyal patrons. I have been ordering from this place for the last two years; over this time I considered all of the management switches, employee turnover, and decline in food quality to be part of this rollove. However, even when talking with management they have no understanding of how bad it is. This place is on a rapid decline and I would think twice before ordering here. Mushy shrimp, sour soup favors, half filled containers, and overall bad attitudes. There are better places with better service. This once great food spot I can no longer, in good conscious, recommend.

Yelp
Terrific Thai in downtown Silver Spring! Thanks to Groupon, Lamoon Thai was my destination for lunch yesterday with a friend. We both were very pleased with our meals - and dismayed to see few other patrons in the restaurant - so I wanted to share our positive experience. We both chose the lunch special, which includes soup or another appetizer, main course, and a beverage (soda, or Thai iced tea or coffee) - all for $12. I really enjoyed each element of my meal - the main course (crispy duck with steamed broccoli) and the soup (tom yum chicken) were cooked as expected and had good flavor. My friend tried the pad Thai and tom yum soup. She gave both a thumbs up!! I asked for the sweet-spicy tamarind sauce on the side for the duck because I like it crispy and not soggy. The chef hooked it up just right. No complaints on either dish. The Thai iced tea was creamy, not overly sweet....more like refreshing and invigorating....well highly caffeinated!! lol. Further, the portions were quite generous - we both brought half our food back home - and the server was highly attentive and pleasant. In all, great food, customer service and experience. I'll definitely be visit again!

Ric L.

Yelp
Great food, original sake cocktails, and well calibrated spice levels. Try the daily specials for an extra surprise!

Kyle R.

Yelp
Lamoon is my favorite Thai restaurant in Silver Spring. Their lunch special is incredible value, combined with authentic Thai flavors, great portions, and an affordable price in a time when many restaurants have drastically increased prices. I typically get Lamoon to go, as I prefer taking Thai food home. The restaurant is quiet, has plenty of seating and is fairly empty at the times I have gone to eat. Service is quick, with food typically coming out in 10 minutes or less. There can be difficulty finding street parking but there is public garage parking nearby. Lamoon is a must try if you're craving Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Green Curry (exceptionally good here), or Ka Prow.

Krishna P.

Yelp
We got Drunken noodles with chicken and Red curry with rice. Both are very good. Jasmine rice is cooked perfect and is flavorful. A lot of Thai restaurants tend to over cook chicken but not this one. It's soft and tender. I loved the burst of flavor from basil. Parking in the area can be tricky.

Kendall P.

Yelp
Very good place and a staple of mine for Thai food. The Thai iced tea, spicy basil rice, and red curry all bring me back to life. Literally. Love the place go all the time.

Susannah C.

Yelp
Really delicious Thai food. Originally found them through TooGoodToGo and discovered my next favorite Thai spot. We've tried multiple curries, which were all good, but the Pad Prik chicken is my favorite. It's got savory, hint of sweet, with a spicy kick! Only got delivery or picked up from here -- never eaten-in -- but their restaurant is spacious.

Jeff M.

Yelp
We liked everything we got tonight -- pork dumplings and fried tofu for starters, then papaya salad, green curry with chicken, and basil with chicken. All were fresh and tasty and came as asked with brown rice. Our only quibble is that the spices for a few of these were ultra strong. Next time we'll ask for milder versions. Beware of not specifying because some of them (curry for sure) come very spicy as standard. Otherwise, really great food at good prices.

Iris Z.

Yelp
Came back for their drunken noodle. It was truly Thai spicy! Like actually mouth burning. It was great.

Hiral D.

Yelp
This place was great. We ordered green curry, drunken noodles with tofu, pad thai, and tofu panang curry for take out. Upon entering, the place looked clean and had a table where all the orders were placed for contactless pick up. All of it was pretty good and had a nice level of spice. The pad thai was probably my least favorite. The drunken noodles were surprisingly the spiciest. Although I asked for some hot peppers in fish sauce, it was not included with our order. We also didn't get any cutlery but I should have asked for it. I enjoyed lamoon and will definitely order from them again!

Rachel S.

Yelp
Disclaimer: This review is in conjunction with Lamoon Thai's participation in the Too Good to Go app (https://toogoodtogo.com/en-us), which works with local businesses (grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, etc...) towards reducing food waste. I ordered a surprise bag from TooGoodToGo for $4.99, which means I did not know what to expect in my order. I didn't include a picture of my food, because one receives whatever food the business has that is not going to be thrown away. What's Hot - Quality. Very delicious! I was surprised that the food was hot and freshly made, because there's no guarantee as to how fresh the food is in a surprise bag on TooGoodToGo. For my order, I received 1 takeaway container that contained a combination of fried noodles with tofu, steamed white rice, a spicy chicken stir fry with veggies, and a ground pork stir fry with veggies. Everything was well-seasoned, flavorful, and one of the dishes had a nice spicy kick to it. - Menu. Their general menu looks pretty good, especially with the variety. What I appreciate about their menu is that it's not Asian fusion. There are some dishes that may not be true ethnic Thai food, but for the most part, their menu is Thai. - Portion. Pretty good. For the amount I paid and for what I received, I would guesstimate that I received more than what I paid for. I was initially surprised to receive only 1 takeaway container of food. However, given the variety and quality of food I received, I would say it worked out very well. - Service. When I told the staff that I was picking up my TooGoodToGo order, they knew exactly what I was talking about. They asked me to sit down and wait while they got my order ready, which they did so pretty quickly. They handed me my order and asked me to go into the app to show that I picked up my order, which I did. I appreciate that they are knowledgeable about what services they are also participating in. Makes everything more effective and efficient. - Participation in reducing food waste. I give them a lot of credit for participating in a program that is actively trying to reduce food waste. To be fair, I have absolutely no control in what food I receive from them, but I'm not picky. The only thing I'm picky about is that the food is good. Haha.... - Health and safety. There were 2 staff when I arrived and both wore face masks. During this time of the pandemic, when things continue to be uncertain, I appreciate it when businesses, that interact with the public, take precautions for the health and safety of others. What's Not - Parking. There's only metered street parking, so be prepared to pay and/or to drive around looking for parking. One of the reasons why I also appreciate their service is because I was able to find street parking, at a meter on the same block as the restaurant, but didn't have to worry about paying or being towed, because I was literally in the restaurant for less than 10 minutes. - Location. Not the most convenient, because it's in the middle of a busy area. To be fair, if you're walking and/or taking public transportation, it may not be that big of an issue. However, driving to this location is not the most practical. Final Answer Would be willing to come back for Thai food, but may not be a first choice depending on my physical location to the restaurant. Haha....

Naomi L.

Yelp
Delicious. I have greatly enjoyed the restaurant as this is my second time ordering delivery. The food comes in separate containers so the food does not become soggy. The food always tastes fresh and uses quality ingredients.

Libby F.

Yelp
This was my first visit since the changeover from its former incarnation, Thai Market. It's not a market anymore. You simply order your food at the counter and can eat in the renovated space or take your food to go. During COVID times they had limited spaced out seating. No one was dining in when I came to pick up my food. I luckily scored a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. I got my usual pad see ew with tofu ($10.95). They didn't skimp on the tofu. It was very good, and enough for a second dinner. The calamari ($7) was not to my liking. I specially asked for no tentacles and they honored my request. The calamari was too rubbery. The birds liked it though! The Thai ice tea ($2.95) was really refreshing. I don't like regular ice tea, but Thai tea is great. The fifth star is for excellent service during these frustrating times when all I want to do is see my friends and family and share a good meal with them face to face.

Donyiel C.

Yelp
Very disappointing take-out meal from here! Wanted to try a new local thai place but definitely will not be back. I read so many great reviews but I didn't have a great experience. Placed an online order for a drunken noodle entree with chicken! My order was ready when I got there. The employee was friendly. Went home to enjoy my meal and it was horrible. Just bland, tasteless, small portion, and a complete waste of money. They included some kind of salad with it but it was not fresh. I don't know if it was an off day or something, but I cannot ever step foot in here again!

Katrina L.

Yelp
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Lamoon Thai is downtown Silver Spring's BEST Thai - and believe me, there are a LOT of options to beat out in this area. I'm talking Charm Thai, Thai at Silver Spring, Thai Pepper Kitchen...Lamoon beats them ALL. I ordered their Shrimp Kaprow for the first time a couple of weekends ago and I literally had to STOP and PAUSE because I couldn't believe how good it was. Of course, I've tried several other items on the menu to back up my claim, so you know Lamoon Thai is coming with some heat lol. They are rapid fire with pickup orders - literally, I'll place an order on Grubhub, and my food will be ready for pickup in less than 15 minutes - no matter how much I've ordered. It's always piping hot, super fresh and super bomb....I can't believe I used to pass this place and didn't even realize it was here! Now, I'm making up for loss time by hitting this spot every time I have a Thai craving.

Connie C.

Yelp
Crab Rangoon - not overly salty as most things with old bay often are Veggie gyoza - surprising nuggets of flavor! The dipping sauce is wonderful Pad see ew with tofu - the best I've had BUT be warned "less spicy" is still quite spicy Pad woon sen with chicken - the best my husband says he's had in the DMV

Adam A.

Yelp
Amazing food-- we got delivery from them-- this is the best Thai since we left northern Virginia and Bangkok 54. Massamin Curry, Drunken Noodles, coconut noodle soup, papaya salad, eggplant-- sweet, spicey, sour-- a great asset to the Silver Spring dining scene. Wow!

Gracie M.

Yelp
Best tom kha gai ever! The perfect blend of flavors with the just-right amount of heat. Could've eaten a gallon. Great value - we got four dishes for $36. Would definitely go back next time we're in the area!

J A.

Yelp
Quality has gone down and prices have gone up. I have been coming here for a few years and the last time I went, the pad thai was noticeably lower quality and not very fresh looking or tasting. The chicken was tough to chew and the noodles were overcooked and drenched in some red/orange sauce that looked like spaghetti sauce. The noodles looked like something cooked the day before and saved for the next day. That's just how I feel. I felt that the food was not cooked fresh the way it is supposed to be. The pad Thai doesn't look anything like the pictures they post online. I will not be going here anymore. It wasn't like this before when it was the grocery store/restaurant setup. I don't know if this is new management or what, but it is NOT good anymore.

Pearl T.

Yelp
I first learned this place through Too Good To Go. It's an app for restaruants to sell foods that will be wasted at a cheaper price. Whatever was in the surprise bag was delicious and pretty spicy, so I decided to visit and order from the menu. Clean place, good service, nice vibe ( the relaxing kind), and the foods are sweeter than other places which suits my preference. It is important to remember every country has several region, and the same dish may varies from area to area, or even different from household yo household. It's a previlege to taste all kind of Thai foods and their variation in a small place, without traveling. What is more convenient is the choice to make it vegetarian and maybe vegan if you ask... I can tell from the options, it goes with different dietary preferences, and from the online order, you can make some adjustments. I can't wait to explore more! Almost forget, the person nicely told me what kind of coconut water they get to make sure I'm okay. That was really nice!!

LaTonya F.

Yelp
The worst chicken pad Thai I've ever eaten. Noodles over cooked and it doesn't have any flavor.

Deb W.

Yelp
We ordered calamari and it was over cooked. Ordered the pomegranate lemonade and it was way too sweet. The spring rolls I ordered was decent. The waiter kept scratching his hair and the restaurant was emptyZ definitely wouldn't return as I didn't have a great experience.

Renata H.

Yelp
The food is very fresh and of high quality, perfectly spiced and not overcooked. Portions are generous. The delivery was prompt and ordering very easy through their web ordering. Will become our go to.

Patrice M.

Yelp
I ordered delivery through Uber Eats. The food came earlier than quoted, and that was the only plus. I ordered calamari as an appetizer and the Drunken Noodles as my entree. Normally when I order Drunken Noodles and other noodle dishes from a Thai restaurant, they ask you to select your level of spice (mild, medium, spicy). I did not get any option which I thought was odd. But I went through with my order anyway. My food arrived. I opened the calamari, and last time I checked, calamari come in ring shapes. Whatever this was were straight lines, no rings. I have no idea what this substance was that they tried to pass off as calamari, but I didn't even attempt to eat it. I took the breading off just to make sure and it was clear this wasn't calamari. I hoped that my drunken noodles would make up for this disappointment. Nope. From the first bite of my noodles, my mouth was on FIRE. I could truly only eat a few bites before I just threw it out. I could literally see all of the pepper seeds in the noodles. It's like they took every pepper in the restaurant and put it in my food. Terrible. No amount of water could help me. I should have taken the fact that they didn't ask how spicy I wanted my food as a sign. My boyfriend had Thai fried rice with chicken. He said it was okay but bland. Luckily, Uber Eats refunded my money since I couldn't eat any of my food. I will never order from this place again.

Quijana B.

Yelp
Lamoon Thai is the new Thai Market. What was once a simple carry out counter is now a simple fast casual restaurant. The aisles of curry paste and rice have been replaced with tables and chairs. The walls are now a deep grey, and the space is obviously still in transition. The good news is that the food has stayed delicious. The original counter still exists, but it has been moved into a newly painted space in what was the actual Thai Market. The steam table is filled with ready made food, and the restaurant also offers a menu of foods that can be made to order. All of the standards are here, and I have no doubt that they are good. I'll be completely honest here and tell you that Thai Market had my favorite Thai food in Silver Spring, so I was overjoyed to see that their carry out would continue to exist. The food is not what one might expect to find at a restaurant, and a quick conversation will reveal that they offer homestyle meals more often than not. Basil Chicken is my absolute favorite dish here, and it has a permanent spot at the counter, so I know I'm not alone. We were quite happy with the papaya salad from the menu, and can't wait to try more from the kitchen, as we know that this will be a regular stop for us once again. I've left them a star to grow into, as the restaurant is still changing. Lamoon Thai only seems like a new spot in the Silver Spring Thai restaurant offerings. In reality, though, the offerings in this spare space is simply a new presentation for a tried and true menu. If you've not noticed them in the nearly 30 years that they've been there, the time has come.

Yelp
Absolutely disgusting. I will never order from This place. Several strands of hair in my food!!! How careless do you have to be??

Yelp
Really AWFUL food. Cold delivery and watery, flavorless, mushy everything. Never again.

Yelp
Food was very well spiced and served. Heat where it was needed and noodles chewy. The broth was tasty too! Going to go back!

Yelp
We ordered a few dishes for delivery and overall thought it was pretty decent Thai food. Pros: generous portions at a great price. The Pad See Ew and the red curry - both with chicken - were $11 each. Prompt service. Overall good flavor. Cons: My Pad See Ew was a bit on the oily side and there was a very bizarre, generous shake of ground black pepper on the top (see my photo). I've never experienced this before with this dish so was a little surprised and it didn't seem to do the dish any favors. While my husband enjoyed his red curry overall, he felt that the sauce itself was on the weak side (spice level was fine, but the overall flavor of the sauce he found to be a bit watered down).

Yelp
Great Thai Style Calamari and curries. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. Try their chicken or pork sticks too.

Yelp
We have only good things to say about the food and drink here. This coupled with the kind service and quaint atmosphere made for a great lunch :)

Yelp
This was a good place to go! We came on a Saturday night and they had good prices for a generous amount of food. Each dish was basically $10 a piece if you get tofu, vegetable, or chicken. We got the pad see eew and the Penang curry. Both were very good especially for the price. The lay out was alittle weird but very open. It has more of a traditional Thai feeling in the restaurant. It was also a family run restaurant since there kids were assisting in serving us, they were quite young though. If you go, check in and you get 10% off! The only downside is the location. It was near a construction area and kind of hard to find. At first I couldn't find it and thought the area was quite sketchy. Overall, would recommend and would go again!

Yelp
Our new fav Thai, different menu than the stereotype, seems super-authentic, lots of spicy, several peanut flavored, some duck, a selection of curries. A variety of types of noodles, various tofu dishes, generous portions. Super-good delivery packaging, no spills. Order, enjoy, repeat!

Yelp
Having eaten Thai food for many years, and from California to DC, I can firmly say that: LAMOON THAI is the BEST THAI RESTAURANT in the DMV!!! Fresh, delicious, plentiful, with all the right flavors You will LOVE IT! I have not had better.

Yelp
I did uber eats from here tonight. It was just okay. Very oily/greasy pad Thai and pad see ew and too much pepper was used in the pad see ew dish. the spring rolls were pretty good. All in all, a B-. I would probably not order from here again.

Yelp
Five star potential!!! I know, I Gabe them four stars, but that's because they are currently transforming themselves and I want to see what the butterfly looks like before I give them that fifth star. Lamoon Thai has been a favorite of mine since the mid-90's. They started out as a takeout counter in the old (at first new) Thai Market at their current location. Running in and grabbing a quick Thai Basil Chicken to go (or eating in at one of the few tables) was always one of the highlights of whatever day it was. Now, the market is gone, which to this long time fan was heartbreaking. WAIT!!! The take out counter is staying? It's going to be it's own restaurant!?!?! YAY!!! Okay, back to the present. The menu has been increased. New tables and chairs. Tasteful, yet modest decorations around the section that has been remodeled. Everything is coming along well. Plus, they kept all of the stellar flavors that originally made me a fan. They still have a hot bar for those few items people want to be able to grab and go in under 5 minutes, and they have added a lot more. This is one gem that I hope Silver Spring cherishes for a long time to come.

Yelp
So I tried this place through the Too Good To Go App which is a app that connects restaurants to customers who can purchase food at a reduced rate and save a meal or two from being wasted. For $5, I got leftovers from the carry out lunch menu which was a heavy load of white rice, drunken noodles, delicious green curry with chicken, and some sweet garlicky chicken - I am not a picky eater and the app gives you surprise meals - the was a pleasant surprise that could feed 2 or feed me twice !! I would post a picture but everything was touching and it's basically gone so go tú the lunch menú yourself

Yelp
This is the best Thai food around. Agree with Katrina's review. I have never been disappointed. They by far have the best Pad Kaprow and their Pad See-ew is fabulous. I live in Takoma Park, and this place beats Kin Da hands down.

Yelp
I hate to do this but their quality has dropped. I speak solely on their panang curry dish. I am a big fan of consistency and just last year i couldnt get enough of this place. My favorite thai place in Silver Spring, tucked away on Thayer Ave. It really was a gem. I think they changed chef because whoever they had previously had this recipe spot on every time. A thick curry well balanced heat of the curry spices, creamy sweetness from the coconut milk, texture of the peanuts, acid and tang of the lime and the perfect herbal explosion of the kaffir lime leaf. I was that into it. Whatever i got recently could hardly coat my spoon ie. Too watery. There is a lot more on their menu that is decent but im uninspired to try those again in fear of being disappointed.

Yelp
I ordered take-out pad Thai with chicken for lunch. It came with 6 bites of salad with peanut dressing and 2 gyoza. before I left The restaurant I asked the woman at the counter if there were utensils in the bag. She said no and looked a bit annoyed after I asked for them. I mean seriously. I've eaten here several times and the food is my bad but I think their problem is they don't care that much about service. I've ordered from here several times recently and have noticed that general attitude.

Yelp
This place has always, admittedly, been a little sketchy to me. Now, with the recent renovation, it is a little less sketchy...I guess. A few of my coworkers kept talking about going to grab lunch from this spot. And, on a super busy day, I decided to run over and get a quick lunch. On my first visit, I ordered fried rice. It was very oily and I waited about 20 minutes for my order with no one else in the restaurant. My rice looked and tasted like oily white rice. I decided to give it another try, and ordered the lunch special which is food that is already cooked at the front, and you can order one or two entrees with white rice. I tried the panang curry, which is a favorite of mine. Not bad! Though the color and texture of the chicken was a little off - maybe it was chicken thighs? I don't know. But it was pretty good, along with their spring rolls. I am open to trying additional items on the menu, but only because it's super close to my job. If you're looking for some quick lunch or dinner, it's a pretty decent spot.
