"Nothing at this Hollywood dive appears to have been touched since 1987, and we mean that as a compliment. The bar’s counter is smooth as a bowling alley lane, and its lower ledge meets your feet so they don’t have to dangle awkwardly. A man in a cowboy hat who asked for white wine" - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino, virginia otazo

"At this cash-only dive in Hollywood, you can smoke inside while you make eye contact with regulars sitting at the big oval bar that takes up most of the space. Nothing inside appears to have been touched since 1987, and we mean that as a compliment. The bar’s counter is smooth as a bowling alley lane, and its lower ledge meets your feet so they don’t have to dangle awkwardly. Fans spin at a speed just high enough to keep the smoke out of your eyes without putting out your cigarette. The regulars feel straight out of Central Casting for dive bar background actors, and the bartenders are supportive little angels who make you want to stay here for three drinks longer than you intended." - Ryan Pfeffer

Finally, a win for those of us who enjoy smoking.

Lamp post is one of those Alamo bars. Last of the Mohicans. Standing it's ground in a world of corporate BS. Love it. Was packed with the people that don't care about corporate crap. Long live Lamp Post!!

Recently back in Hollywood after almost 50 years. The lamp post has not changed a whole lot in that time. Still the friendly place to grab a beer and enjoy the conversations going round. Was my almost daily place for after work relaxation. So nice to see that not all changes.

Love this bar!!! Russell is the best and pays special attention to his customers. Friendly and outgoing and makes you feel like family. Margie is also an awesome bartender, remembers your drinks and names and is cool to hang with. Lea is a sweet addition and I love her sense of humor! Overall it’s a great neighborhood bar and I love it here! Lol Because I am here right now!

It's All Good F.

Yelp
Food was very good. Had fish sandwich with fries. You can tell everything is fresh as oil is not old. Really nice hometown people. Went for lunch. Bartender was nice and personable. Chef came out to thank us for tip. All CASH.

Yelp
Chef Carl rocks his delicious food offerings!! Never had a bad meal here, Found this bar driving by - can't wait to return

Yelp
Cold beer. Heavy smoke residual. Local dive. Rough looking barmaid. Cruised in on a weekend afternoon, after spending the day on the beach. Wanted a cold beer. Got it. Drank it. Left.

Yelp
Great lil place to kick back and grab a drink with all your friends. I totally recommend it.

Yelp
Divey little place with a very relaxed and casual atmosphere. I felt like everyone who was in here was a regular, they all knew each other and the bartender. This is a place for beer and straight liquor. I ordered a Tom Collins and I saw the bartender google it which isn't a big deal... this actually happens at a lot of places. The drink came out very tasty and I loved that the bartender was honest about not knowing how to make it, gave it a shot, and didn't charge me for the first one. Definitely coming back here the service was great, drinks cheap, and not stuffy at all.

Yelp
US 1 in Hollywood has its share of seedy motels and seedy dive bars. If you don't like dive bars, then, stop reading this review. The Lamp Post is a dive bar. As dive bars on US 1 go, this is a reasonably safe one. If you are looking for trouble, you might want to (or might NOT want to) visit Artie's or The Entrada. The Lamp Post is cozy, dark, clean and has a standard collection of regulars who all know each other. The drinks are cheap and there is an internet powered juke. The crowd is older, as another reviewer has noted. But so what? This is a great place to come for a quiet, cheap drink and maybe some friendly banter. Oh, and I cannot forget Lamp Post Kitty!!!! The "Post" has a bar cat, an enormous peanut-butter and vanilla feline that sleeps in the window box. She's sweet and friendly.

Yelp
Ive ALWAYS wanted to go by this bar! its on my way home from work, and they always seem to be open. We swung in the other night, and there were only 3 people at the bar + a 30lb cat appropriately named Lampy. The bartender didnt know what to make of us, but the locals that were there were pretty cool. As another review states, the average age here is 60, but the Budweisers are cold, and there is plenty of Willie Nelson playing!

Yelp
Dive bar, but definitely not in a good way. People there are extremely vulgar, and not just occasionally. Pity, because I live nearby. Also a pity because dive bars are amongst my favourite types of bars to frequent.

Yelp
If you have ever been to a mill bar up north than this place would be familiar to you. As patriotic a bar can get. They have a mirror in the shape of the country and more American flags than you can count. Beer is cheep and so is their mixed drinks. The bartender is well into his golden years but friendly and worldly. The crowd is older than most and local. You almost expect the patrons to be wearing heard hats and carrying their lunchboxes home from the factory just stopping in for a beer and a shot. This place even has its own mascot- A fat cat (literally) named Lampy. This is an old time bar, the way they used to be, in a sea of trendy chain sports bar spots. Nice place to tilt a frosty one on a summers night.

Yelp
Let me start with the fact that I love dive bars. This place has the makings of a great dive bar. Old. Weird. Slightly unsavory. Lounge singer that was so godawful he was awesome. Cheap drinks. For me though the main problem is its a smoking bar. I can stand a little smoke, but seriously the 10 patrons that were in there were chain smoking beyond comprehension. I had two beers and left smelling like I'd gone on a six week smoking binge in the same clothes. In addition, they don't take credit/debit cards, the bartender made zero effort to make a new customer feel welcomed in a crowd of clear regulars. All in all pass on the lamp post. Try one of Hollywood's other dive bars that has cordial staff like Wiley Street Bar.

Yelp
Lamp Post is one in a series of dives on the US-1 strip between Hollywood and Dania. There's not much to say about this place. It's dark, the drinks are cheap, and it's overall a quiet and boring bar. 1 TV, no pool table, a couple of video games, and not much of anything else going on. The clientele are mostly there to drink and keep to themselves. If you're in the area and want a drink, Walsh's is right up the street and a lot better.

Yelp
This is another bar that has cheap drinks but a totally different atmosphere. Alot of older people and no food except on weekends. Half the time this place is dead and definitely not a place to go for socializing. The bartenders are not overly friendly either. Artie's beats this place hands down

Maureen M.

Yelp
This is a Family gathering of Friends. The Bartenders are the nicest ! You just go once and you make Friends that you want to come back and visit with. Generally the age group is more mature but still young at heart !

Peter M.

Yelp
This place is an old school drinking bar. The drinks are cheap and they open early, but do not go there for any excitment. The average age is about 60.

K K.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. Mostly locals that are very friendly. Not fancy and probably not the type of bar partying vacationers would be looking for that has a jumping nightlife or food. Comfortable for a single woman alone. Clean and comfortable. Want crazy, go to the beach!!!

Simon S.

Yelp
One of my favorite dive bars. I really like this place, it is low key, a lot of older customers that keep to themselves and a lot of friendly people.

Yelp
Stopped in here on a random Thursday night to have a couple beers. There were maybe 3 people in there, a t.v., and a jukebox. Not much to do from what I could see. All I know is that 3 beers, served by a pleasent bartender, came to a $6.75 bill which is hard to beat. Come here with money for music and some good company and as yelp puts it, it's A-ok but not anything more. If you're a cat person make sure to say hello to the friendly fat kitty sitting at the window.

Yelp
I used to live walking distance to this place... which is good because there were a couple of nights where I had to crawl home. This place is awesome - wood paneled walls, illegal gambling, package liquors sold under the table. A decent juke box full of classic rock.. and even Clarence Carter (Woohoo!) Then they got rid of it and put in some fancy machine! BOOOO. I only went at nights.. it was kind of like my Cheers.. everyone knew my name. And I was typically the youngest person there. The two bartenders were great. Bill was a happy-go-lucky guy always jokin' around about needing a rectal exam.. and Paul told me the same jokes over and over and over again. But he was novel because most nights he's wearing a wife beater, a sports coat, and skin tight jeans which made him look like he was smuggling a kielbasa in his pants. It's comical. The guy is like 65. Too bad he left! But the well vodka is $2.75 a drink and you can still smoke in there. Great place. Edited to give this place 5 stars because Bill became a yelp member. AND my friend. Love you bill!

Yelp
The Lamp Post should be getting a better rating than just two stars. Pro: it's a better atmosphere than Walsh's, which has a real issue with ambience. Beers are cheap and in line with other buinesses in the area. The real issue is that there never seems to be anyone in there. I've been to Hollywood a number of times and hit pretty much every Dive Bar on N. Federal Highway, at all different times of the day and night. If someone knows when the good times to go in here are, let me know because I'll be damned if I've have ever been there with any more than three or four people hanging out. For a crazier experience, go to Artie's. For meeting locals, go to Walsh's. Still, it's not bad and who knows, maybe you'll get lucky.
