The 38 Best Manila Restaurants | Eater

"Located on the second floor of a nondescript apartment building in Poblacion, Lampara serves a generous selection of hearty neo-Filipino cuisine and cocktails. It’s run by young chefs RJ Ramos, Prince Tan, and Alphonse Sotero, who all build on experience in the kitchens of other fine dining restaurants. Favorites include a starter of rice cups (inspired by lumpia), dinuckduckan (a duck version of the Ilocano dinakdakan), and pork (crispy porchetta, star anise reduction, and pork floss). Don’t leave without trying the inventive desserts, specifically the yema and tsokolate (sweet custard and chocolate)." - Toni Potenciano

Rising stars: Manila's burgeoning modern Filipino food scene - SilverKris

"Run by chef-owners RJ Ramos and Alphonse Sotero, this neo-Filipino bistro on the second floor of a low-rise building in Poblacion, Makati is busy and bustling since its first anniversary. The dining room is adorned with local art and the kitchen reinterprets familiar dishes—offering a tokwa’t baboy that tops soft tofu with crispy pork bits, pork floss and black vinegar, a liver mousse empanada that channels adobo flavors, braised kang kong and a sous-vide duck leg crisped in oil. Its true strength is regional Filipino cuisine: a signature Itum dish melds elements of tiyula itum and pyanggang into a bold seafood soup layered with charcoal-blackened coconut, galangal, lemongrass and spiced coconut cream, reflecting the team’s research-driven aim to raise awareness of lesser-known southern flavours." - Angelo Comsti

VENUE: The place is simple and not really ideal for large groups. We were a group of 20 and were seated on the balcony, which was quite hot even at night. Unfortunately, the fans were not sufficient to keep the area comfortable. FOOD: Most of the dishes tasted great—as expected from a Michelin-star restaurant. However, we were a bit disappointed with their Special Laing, which was dry and bland. Aside from that, the rest of our orders were really good. STAFF: Kudos to the staff member who assisted our table—he was extremely attentive and funny. Despite serving a large group and clearly being tired, he remained cheerful, smiling, and engaging with us throughout. Great job! OVERALL RATING: We would consider coming back for the food and service, but not as a large group. The place is more suitable for small gatherings or intimate couple dates.

We celebrated our Christmas Party at Lampara and it was such a wonderful experience! The food was absolutely lovely and delicious — every dish was a hit. The atmosphere made our celebration even more special, and we genuinely had a great time. All the staff were very nice, friendly, and incredibly accommodating. Highly recommended for gatherings and special occasions!

We had a great dining experience at Lampara! For starters, we tried the Dinuckdakan, which had lots of floss and really good flavor. The Croquettas were also delicious — cheesy on the inside and fun to try both on their own and with the honey. My favorite starter was the Chicharon Bulaklak, served perfectly crispy with just the right amount of saltiness and a tasty tamarind condiment on the side. For the mains, the Oxtail was my top pick — rich and flavorful. The Beef Belly was also good, and the Pork was nicely crispy. We got to try all the desserts, and my favorite was the Tres Leches — light, creamy, and perfectly sweet. The Yema Tsokolate and Polvoron were also enjoyable and well made. The servers were very nice and even took the time to explain the parts of our meals, which made the experience more special. The ambiance was warm and cozy, making it a great place to relax and enjoy good food. They recently received their Michelin Bib Gourmand Award, and it’s definitely well-deserved!

Wonderful experience! This is where my partner and I had our first date. We had to recreate it a year after and it still did not disappoint. They seated us on the same seats we first dated last year ago. The food is delicious! They even wrote happy anniversary on our dessert and even asked us for our theme song so they could play it while we were eating. The owner also went and talked to us to make sure everything is okay. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We will be back! 🥰

Went here for my birthday and all I can say is best best best service we received from a resto 🥹 It was during the awarding of the Michelin Bib Gourmand, maybe it had an effect lol but yes staff were so nice and happy. Food was good and reasonably priced, Dinuckduckan (?) just tasted a bit umay due to the egg, hope they add more duck since the serving felt like 70% egg and 30% meat. 5 ⭐ still ◡̈

I used to be a fan of Lampara way back in 2022, so I was really looking forward to coming back. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. The food was overly oily, and the beef belly in particular was mostly fat and too greasy to enjoy. It didn’t live up to the quality I remembered before. I hope this was just an off night, because I genuinely liked this place in the past. For now, though, this experience didn’t meet my expectations.

Faves: rice cups, tofu, oxtail, tres leches Sentimental fave is tres leches. Very unique version, pretty plating, decadent, and just the perfect ending to all the savoury meals. Very delightful dishes and worth every cent! Deserves a michelin star 🥰 Best to reserve a table cause the place gets packed by peak dinner time. * i loved the ambiance too - full of cool art pieces!!

You’ll recognize the flavors right away, just presented in a more polished, Makati-friendly way. Some dishes genuinely shine and make you smile, while others politely show up, do their job, and leave without much small talk. Nothing is bad. I naturally expected a bit more excitement on the plate. Instead, it’s a mix of “that was good” and “okay, moving on.” Pleasant, but not exactly crave-worthy. The space is cozy, the vibe is relaxed, and service is smooth—no complaints there. A comfortable place to enjoy a meal and conversation.

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Lampara last minute on a Saturday. They were able to squeeze us in at 8:30 with no wait! The restaurant is cute and on the smaller side. We ordered the Dinuckdakan (duck sisig), the Tanigue (fish), and the Duck Confi. The duck sisig was good but a bit heavy for an appetizer. I actually prefer the unelevated version. The duck confi was perfect!! A must try. The skin was crispy and the liver empanada was a nice touch. The fish was also good, not a stand out, but worth ordering. We also had the tres leches which was a creative take on the regular dessert. Loved the tuile that came with it! The absinthe drink was excellent. The only item I wouldn't recommend was the peach mango "die" cocktail. It tasted like a sweeter peach bellini and didn't have any craftsmanship like their other drinks. Dinner was just under 4000 pesos for everything! Great prices for the quality and service.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Manila, a good friend of mine took us to Lampara in Makati's Poblacion area. Lampara is a modern take on traditional Fiilipino cuisine. While I realize Filipino food has its detractors, there are many dishes that I enjoy, but what I appreciated about Lampara's style was that the food wasn't overcooked and tasted lighter than a lot of Filipino dishes tend to. I highly recommend the pulpo! The atmosphere is as if you're in someone's house, and there is a quaint outdoor seating area. Parking can be difficult, but there is a paid parking lot down the street. This is a great place to try if you want Filipino food, but a little more unique, especially if you have guests in town. The drinks were also very creative and delicious. Service was also very good, attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend, but definitely make a reservation!

Yelp
Popped in for a quick dinner on my last night in Manila. The food was fantastic. Had the lengua in truffle sauce and it was AMAZING. Highly recommended. Just note, sometimes they close before the posted hours.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in Poblacion. Innovative and delicious food and drinks. You must try what I can only describe as an alcoholic Uber shake!
