Best Chinese Restaurants in the Charlotte, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Popular among both Westerners and the mainland Chinese community, this Weddington destination is worth the drive for a full dim sum menu (soup dumplings, radish turnip cakes, and pork and shrimp shu mai, between $8 to $13 each) and other specialty dishes like hearty clay pot options, thick and saucy mapo tofu, lobster covered in ginger and scallion, and cold-cut chicken. Traditional dishes like sesame chicken are also on the menu, with many under $20 for dinner and $14 for lunch. A casual, comfortable, bright dining room with a full bar is inviting enough for a friend or work group dinner or the whole family." - Shindy Chen

Lam’s Kitchen is a hidden gem in Matthews! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Their General Tso’s chicken is crispy and delicious, and the lo mein is some of the best I’ve had. The staff is friendly, quick, and always gets the order right, whether dining in or taking out. Great portion sizes and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend if you’re craving quality Chinese food in the area!

This place has a unique Live Fish option. The food was good, and the cocktails were okay. Nothing outstanding, though. They also have private rooms for large groups, which is great with kids.

If your looking for delicious food in a family oriented environment this is definitely the spot. We had 9 people and were seated in the private room where we can share amongst each other. Loved this idea especially with kids. The staff from start to finish was excellent, attended to all our needs and questions. We decided to do a few different types of dishes to have the full experience and it did not disappoint. Everything was fresh, juicy and had a bunch of flavor. Highly recommend trying this place out.

We’ve been loyal customers at Lam's Kitchen for quite some time now. Every visit, we’ve spent upwards of $80+ , always left a fair tip (typically 18% in cash, sometimes even a little extra on card), and treated the staff with nothing but respect. We genuinely enjoyed the food and atmosphere, and even made a point to greet the team each time we came in. However, our most recent visit left us shocked and disappointed — so much so that we’ll never be returning. During this visit, everything seemed normal at first. The staff was friendly, and they were chatting with us and even peeking under the blanket to look at our newborn, who isn’t even a month old yet. But when it came time to pay, my friend noticed a 20% gratuity had been automatically added to the bill. Normally, that’s applied to parties of 6 or more — we were 3 adults, 2 kids, and an infant. When we asked about it, the staff told us they were charging us for the infant. Then, out of nowhere, one of them claimed that “every time we come, we only leave a $5 tip” — which is simply not true. We’ve always tipped fairly, and often more than expected. That comment, combined with the automatic gratuity and lack of appreciation for our consistent business, made it clear: there's no loyalty or respect from their side. We’ve never caused a problem, and always supported them — yet we were treated like we didn’t matter. We won’t be back, and we want others to know what kind of treatment they might expect if they choose to become regulars here.

Best wontons I've ever tasted. Had the lobster Cantonese and it was amazing. Can't wait to go back.

The food is amazing. Really well done menu! Large but it offers everything you’d want. And the portions are shareable. Nothing was overcooked and the flavors were better than expected. The service was a bit slow and chaotic at times. Most dishes didn’t come at the same time for everyone. Reservations are welcome. Overall, I’ll choose here again for Chines food.

Went here on Easter Sunday and they had a line out the door at opening time. This restaurant is insanely busy so I highly recommend making reservations in advance. They have a full bar and a private room for bigger parties that require a $100 deposit and spending a minimum of $400. Our waitress was the sweetest lady and provided us with the best service. The food was delicious, and they also had dim sum which was a bonus for us. I recommend this restaurant for a great dining experience.
