Been here before, and although the ambiance is quaint and old-timey, and the food pretty decent, it's never really impressed me as worth a review, good or bad. Today changed that.
The sign at front desk said "Please wait to be seated." No hostess in sight, but plenty of wait staff. So we waited. And waited. There were staff in easy view of us, no more than 15 feet away. No eye contact, no acknowledgement, no assurance someone would be there to seat us, nothing. The conversation they were having with a couple of other guests was far too important.
So we seated ourselves. Nobody noticed. We waited and no one came. I went and grabbed menus for us myself. No one noticed.
Finally a busboy came by (not our waitress) gave us coffee, said he'd tell the waitress we were waiting. THEN a few minutes later she finally came around to take our order, obviously miffed that we had seated ourselves. She took our order and then disappeared never to be seen again. The busboy did everything else. Brought our food (check the photo for the quality of dishware) checked on us, refilled our drinks, a good guy. And when it was time for us to go, despite us trying to make eye contact with any of three other waitress to ask for a check, it was the busboy who went and fetched our waitress from wherever she was.
She smiled finally, once, when we were paying. She won't smile when she sees the tip.
