"Alexander Ruhland represents the fourth generation of his family to run this traditional country inn, and his kitchen turns out top-notch dishes. Two set menus are proposed: a seasonal one comprising three courses and a more ambitious four-course fine dining menu. There is also an à la carte selection featuring classics such asZwiebelrostbraten(fried beef and onions in gravy) with Allgäu beef loin, as well as international dishes and vegetarian options." - Michelin Inspector

(Parts of this review have already appeared on Booking.com, but because of the intractable way the Booking.com review procedure works I was unable to include everything I wanted so this is an expanded version that includes everything I want to say.) | I chose to stay here for an overnight stop on a journey south to Austria. Oberopfingen was in the area where I wanted to stop and the Landgasthof Lowen commended itself to me because of it's excellent culinary reputation. I was not disappointed!|Oberopfingen is a small dormitory village where not much happens! That for me is one of the huge attractions of the place. But for others that could be a huge drawback. (Currently however, that peace and quiet is shattered by traffic of all kinds whose drivers are using it as a rat-run to avoid roadworks. But that will hopefully cease soon.) The hotel is a relatively modern building and the rooms have clearly been regularly updated. They are spotlessly clean and well appointed. There is ample parking.|But what would otherwise be just a good basic hotel is raised to a completely different level by its chef, Alexander Ruhland, who produces some of the best food you will find in this part of Baden-Wurttemberg. The excellent a la carte menu offers something for just about every taste. It is all freshly cooked using herbs etc grown in the garden. It is gourmet food, and it is gourmet prices but worth every cent of it - if you just want bog standard fish and chips go somewhere else.|The breakfast was excellent. It wasn't the common buffet style where you have to get up and go to collect what you want, but a little of everything was brought to your table - real personal service.|So, my usual standard summing up question - "Would I choose to stay there again?" Absolutely! In fact I will happily arrange my travel plans around a visit to the Landgasthof Lowen in Oberopfingen in the future.|Just one word of caution, check that the restaurant will be open when you plan to stay there as obviously the chef needs his time off so some days it is closed..

An excellent establishment. Rooms are comfortable, clean but only accessible over a staircase. Staff more than compensate by helping with luggage and assisting guests up and down the stairs if needed. Food is fantastic, too. Personnel are also very attentive during events; the glas is never empty, the fabulous food is served swiftly. The wedding celebration held there was simply perfect! Looking forward to dining there again and again, soon!

Heading back home from skiing vacation we decided to stay overnight in the property. Nice and warm welcome by staff, no issue with English. We got quiet and comfortable room and paid 83e including typical continetal breakfast. However, the greatest value of the property is their staff. Many 4 to 5 stars hotel restaurants could learn from them!||Excellent quality salad with fish (not on the menu but no issue for them) followed by creme brulle and good rose wine made our dinner very enjoyable.

This is one of the best restaurants in the area. Food is high class and well executed. The Chef is trying to fuse local (Bavarian, Schwabian) cuisine with a semi French flair. It's working. There are dishes on the menu you wouldn't find in the surrounding restaurants. ||Wine list is nice and not too expensive. Certainly a place to go if you are looking for a non standard cuisine of the area. ||Only problem is that the restaurant has issues with credit cards not issued in Germany. If your card is not a german credit card it will get rejected, so do bring cash. ||Still, the place is worth visiting. Food is excellent. ]||This review is for the restaurant, not the "hotel". Never stayed overnight there.

We spent one night at the Landgasthof Loewen, and paid 69 euros for a double room (two people), including breakfast. ||||The hotel is located in a small village 10 km North of Memmingen, and is handy for Memmingen Airport. The room was modern, very clean; the bed was extremely comfortable The bathroom was not big (shower only) but was immaculate. ||||The breakfast was excellent and included some cold meats and cheeses, fresh orange juice, bread rolls, and delicious home-made granola served with lovely yoghurt.||||The owner (and chef) is very friendly, and speaks good English. He has trained at Michelin-starred restaurants and it shows as his food is superb. We had dinner at the hotel and were delighted with the dishes we ate. Particularly noteworthy were the sashimi starter, the salmon main course served with home-made gnocchi, and the elderflower-themed dessert.

Nice small hotel. Unfortunately the restaurant is not open every day due to shortage in personnel, however breakfast is very nice. We recommend this hotel for a short stay of 1, 2 days.

Very nice place, convenient next to the Autobahn. Excellent breakfast. Very good dinner too, but a bit expensive. Great host!
