L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

They're finally open! I've been waiting since the very moment they announced coming to NYC. Downtown got their location first, now it's time for Harlem! I got the Half & Half combo plate - Chicken Katsu, and I chose the BBQ Short Rib. It was perfect, exactly what I expected, and tasted like all the plate lunches I had with friends in Hawaii. The restaurant is a very small space, but there are 2 tables to eat there if you wish. Service was friendly and fast. I will 100% be back, hopefully this location gets on the L&L app soon so I can start earning rewards points!

Finally open and I’m so glad they are. A local favorite back in Hawaii I’m so glad L&L has made it to NY. My usual is the: 1. BBQ mixed plate (a combination bbq marinated grilled chicken, beef, and galbi (Korean) steak w/ two scopes of rice and side mac salad. This dish is packed with amazing mouthwatering flavor and is perfect for any meat lover), 2. Spam musubi. (A classic local Hawaiian snack. Consisting of cooked spam and rice glazed with sweet soy sauce and wrapped together with nori/dried seaweed) My husband’s usual is the 3. Seafood combo mix plate (A combination of (I believe) fried shrimp, fish, and your choice of either the bbq beef, galbi, or chicken and two scopes of rice and one scope of mac salad. This dish is perfect for any seafood fans that also need a little bit of meat too.) Other great food ideas are the: 1.Loco Moco (A beloved and classic Hawaii dish. Consisting of a hamburger patty on top of a large bed of rice smothered in savory gravy sauce and top with (usually an over easy egg: you can ask how you want you egg to be cooked and they’ll accommodate that). This dish is what all the locals on the Hawaii run to get. 2. Saimin soup (Perfect for a cooler weather, or if you have a cold. This soup is inviting and warm and will always put you in your cozy happy place). Being that I’m originally from Maui Hawaii this has become my little piece of Maui right here in NY. All of the worker at this location and their first one have been nothing, but kind to us and have really shown the ALOHA spirit with their customer service and amazing food. The brother and sister owners, I believe, are originally from Oahu Hawaii and are so generous and kind with their time and have really brought what’s special about the Hawaiian island to New York. I was happy when they open their first location and now I’m thrilled that they’ve open this East Harlem location because it’s closer to my home. A personal thank you to all of the L&L staff from both locations. You don’t know what you do for the Hawaiian community here in NY. Your presence is so needed here in NY.
