Times Square Margaritaville Resort Is an Unlikely Balm for a Restless Mind | Eater

"A sixth-floor poolside restaurant and bar that opens onto a patio with sky-blue lounge chairs, yellow umbrellas and a pool that may be closed for inspection; it aims for casual resort fare and tropical drinks (including a Pink Cadillac margarita) and serves items like coconut shrimp with coconut ranch and a lobster roll. The setting — dining next to water — provides a relaxed escape from Midtown, but the pool’s closure and a tendency for dishes and drinks to taste faintly of sunscreen left the author ambivalent about the execution." - Jaya Saxena

Went there for restaurant week for lunch. The food was great! My personal favorites were the elote and the broccolini. The steak with chimichurri was great and they served enough fries for me and someone else. Lisa was an awesome server and made the experience even better. Expect us for dinner soon.

Google
The service was very slow and poor. The server charged us an extra $3 for the nachos that we ordered. We spoke with a person who was seating people and he refunded our $3. The people sitting next to us were also over charged for their nachos, but did not want to deal with it. So they made an extra $3 from them. We ordered soft drinks that did not taste right and we were given the wrong drink. I do not recommend that you eat here and if you do, check your receipt carefully.

This restaurant was fast and appetizing. The servers were very respectful. The food portions were extraordinary compared to other restaurants. Teresa was an amazing waitress too!

Google
We were in the area for a concert at Petco Park. The restaurant is really close and the brick building is really intriguing. But the service and the food is just mediocre. And also the restroom is like two blocks away in a hotel lobby. And if you assume you will get normal fries with your burger, you will be disappointed. The default side for a burger is chips. And you have to pay more for a normal fries or vegetables. Will definitely not go back anymore.

Google
Food was good but service was poor. We went in with a large party and were told we could pay with multiple cards only to be told by server he could only split check 2 ways. Then when we spoke to manager he said he could do 4 ways. Finally after us asking over and over they split it 6 ways. I wouldn't have ordered if I knew that was the case and to me is seemed like server and manager were too lazy to split the checks accordingly. Server had automatic gratuity so I wouldn't expect him to try any harder. I don't recommend for large parties.

I recently visited this venue and thoroughly enjoyed my drink. The service was quick and friendly. It’s a nice venue with an open concept and they had good tunes and even live music. They also have enough TVs to catch games in the area as well. I’d recommend checking them out if your looking for a cocktail or a quick bite.

Our bartender Siyovush was very accommodating, friendly, and gave great customer service. He was so pleasant we had a great time and live downtown, we cannot wait to come back again. We ordered drinks and food and everything was amazing. Thank you for Helping us have such a great experience!

Google
Big Jimmy Buffett fan so I like to go to these restaurants when I can. This used to be a good chain… I hate to say the food and service were both subpar. Atmosphere is great for a Parrothead but honestly, Tommy Bahama’s has better food and service these days. Sorry, Jimmy… I’ll always love ya!

Yelp
We stayed downtown for two nights and had breakfast at Landshark Bar & Grill on both mornings. On our first visit both Becky and I chose the Cracked Eggs ($18) Two eggs any style, bacon or breakfast sausage, Island potatoes, and toast. She chose scrambled, I went with over-easy. We both very much enjoyed our meals. The Island potatoes were the star. Fantastic spuds. Everything else was cooked perfectly to our liking and delivered hot. I devoured mine while Bex took a lot of leftovers home. She was able to get an additional two meals out of it. My lone complaint was that the toast was not delivered buttered. It came with a little container of pre-packaged butter. Excellent service from our bartender Tina. She was really friendly and sweet. Even though she squirted me with water from the soda gun. It was an accident and it was hilarious! Our second visit I had the Sunrise Omelet (Bacon, breakfast sausage, ham, roasted peppers, aged cheddar, Island potatoes, and toast $19). Becky opted for a just a side of sausage ($5) and some toast ($4). This time I thought ahead and asked for my toast to be buttered. The omelet was excellent. It was a fatty, stuffed with the three meats. The peppers were excellent and the cheese was plentiful. My toast was served nicely buttered per my request. The potatoes were again delicious. I could only finish half and enjoyed the rest the following day. Becky was very happy with her sausage and toast. This time our excellent bartender was Gilbert. We'd met him before on previous visits. He's always a cool cat. Gilbert provided great service and chit chat without shooting anyone with water. LOL! A little spendy, but Landshark is a hotel (Margaritaville) on-site restaurant so that is to be expected.

Yelp
Just tried LandShark Bar and Grill at Margaritaville Hotel. The atmosphere: Great tunes & a rooftop bar with city views! Perfect spot to unwind. The menu: Not huge, but covers tasty basics - well-executed seafood baskets, classic burgers, wings, and pub bites. Where LandShark really shine? SPECIALTY DRINKS! Tons of creative cocktails & brews to explore. (Rooftop offers limited bar snacks only - head downstairs for the full kitchen menu.) Pack a little patience. Service was friendly but paced for relaxing (not rushing) - both drinks and food took time. Great if you're settling in, not ideal for a quick bite. Verdict: Fantastic for drinks, music, and the rooftop! Go for the vibes & cocktails, enjoy the tasty food basics and just... relax.

Yelp
Fun jimmy buffet themed bar / restaurant. The restaurant is casual and off the lobby of the Margaritaville Hotel. Food: The menu is a good size with salads, sandwiches / burgers, and entrees. I ordered the ahi poke bowl, which was pretty good. I would've liked a little more for toppings, but it was good and nicely presented. My dad got the landshark burger, which he enjoyed even though he could not specify how he wanted the burger cooked. There was an option to swap out fries for a salad for $2. We ordered my son the grilled chicken with french fries for the kids menu and it was a decent portion; he ate the whole thing. I snagged a few fries and they were crispy and perfectly salted. Service: Our server was friendly, and attentive. We didn't wait long for food.

Yelp
This is inside the Margarita hotel. I'm guessing Jimmy Buffet had something to do with it. The lunch menu was limited but interestingly varied. I order the wings and extra well done. And they came through. The Buffalo sauce they use was moderately spicy but very tasty. I'm posted a voted but I'm sure they'll look a little more done than how they'd normally serve them but they were just what I wanted-I can't stand soggy wings. The staff was very friendly to customers and each other. I like seeing the people working in a restaurant that like each other. The place was pretty quiet a 230 when I got there but it was clean, with a light fun atmosphere. I'd eat here again l.

Yelp
Ate here while staying at the Margaritaville Hotel. It was a weekday night in January, so it was pretty dead. I ate at the bar because they didn't even have a waiter. The bartender was just taking care of everyone. It's a nice restaurant and would have probably been more enjoyable on the weekend when they have live music. The food was pretty good, nothing special. I had the salmon sandwich, which was tasty but very small. The fries were good. Also had a key lime pie, which I can report was up to a former Floridian's standards. Overall the experience was so-so. But I'd definitely give it another try when it's a little more lively. Definitely need to get a margarita next time!

Yelp
I had been staying at AC for a couple days and boy was I glad that I stopped into the LandShard while I was there to eat. Our server Gary was great. He made the meal very enjoyable with extremely curious service. He was attentive and definitely made the experience enjoyable.

Yelp
A tried and don't need to visit again restaurant because there are more to try and better places. Perhaps it was a limited Padres game-day lunch menu? Or a not what they're good at order? We had the coconut shrimp and the tuna poke bowl. Not impressed, somewhat disappointed in taste and quality and quantity. Left hungry. Almost got a burger for more food, but decided to just go get more food elsewhere. Ambiance is great. Staff are nice.

Yelp
Food and portions were good. The plates were generous in size and the food was really tasty. Service was okay but we went on Opening Day so it was really busy. Given how busy it was, I thought the service was decent. As for the vibe...totally chill and family-friendly

Yelp
Seriously, good, service was great. Highly recommended if you're in the area. And check out the Philly cheese, I think it's the best Philly cheese I've ever had.

Johnny F.

Yelp
Service by the waiter was subpar. He only checked in on us once. We had to ask the bartenders multiple times to provide us service. The food was mediocre as well.

Yelp
For the many restaurants that I have been to there are the ones that try to get to the many customers and the ones that try to get you by the many drinks specials the way to get to the servers is that you can order the soft drinks and the nonalcoholic cocktails that many cocktail servers try to make the totals for the drinks. For many restaurants that have such greet food and the tacos and the seafood that has the best in flavors and the great bar food the time it takes to makes the great fish tacos. The one restaurant that I had discovered yet the feel of the location was more of a hotel than a large restaurant to find the location and the main entry to the establishment there was no one to welcome at the front door of the restaurant. The Margaritaville was the great place of the parrot head with the song of the many resorts that you can see the main lobby and the sundries store with the sale of liquor in the lobby store. The hotel itself feels like the many that are in the city of Las Vegas with many restaurants you will find many of them that takes the front area of the hotel and the main lobby with the large restaurant that with the looks of the restaurant it looks more of the smaller bar. Entering into the hotel the Landshark Bar and Grill was tight off the main lobby with the many pieces of memorabilia with the airplanes of the model of the airplane that many have seen with the Jimmy Buffet videos. The looks of the bar it was one that the servers were going behind the bar to get the orders and waiting for the orders. Having to ask one of the managers that were on the floor tells me that they were serving during happy hours to see no menus telling of what happy time is. With the many people which I have seen at the bar it was one of the many areas in the restaurant bar that I have never seen a bartender free pour going through so many bottles in one hour for the pouring of drinks should be done by jiggers. Service at the bar was one of asking the many questions and the food menu was one that is of trying to see what the happy hour was yet the food that was being served looked very good. The one thing that I wanted to see was the time of service, so I took on the order for the fish tacos and the one thing that one of the many food specialties of sliders was not served. The bartender Ryan asked me what I wanted to order I like to try the Fish tacos and the bartender was asked do you make the best in drinks. I had ordered the tropical hurricane that was one of the strongest drinks that I have seen free poured yet the bar never used jiggers. The food service was very good and the fish tacos were some of the largest tacos and the sauce was the best with the flavor of the fish cooked correctly and perfect for the taste. For the service at the Landshark it was more of the bartenders asking you if you liked another drink seeing the drinks they poured it was to stick with one not to have too much to drink.
google avatar

Jeffery W.

Yelp
The service was ok but I have seen better. The drink price was high I felt, when it came to happy hour that was even more confusing when asked about pricing. Also it seems that the drinks appeared smaller for the happy hour.

Bailey B.

Yelp
Food was amazing. We stayed at Margaritaville & so we had breakfast here one morning. Service was even better. They got our coffee from the shop next door & since it took 5 min more than it usually did they comped them. So nice!

Yelp
We were in town for a conference. The group decided to have dinner here. We were seated away from the live music; however, it was still pretty loud. The service was definitely very slow; hence, for the 4 stars instead of 5. I ordered the salmon entree without teriyaki. They were very accommodating for the special request. It was pretty good.

Yelp
Went there for restaurant week for lunch. The food was great! My personal favorites were the elote and the broccolini. Yelp
So I was coming off a "high" from the Jimmy Buffett tribute show that I had recently seen and I decided to come in here before a concert and eat. Well they were grossly understaffed. It took 10 minutes or more to get seated and there was plenty of seating that was open. Unfortunately, it was cold and I was seated by the doors so cold air kept blowing in. It's not really a well designed area. I ordered a BBQ Burger because how can you screw that up? Uh, they found a way. The burger was drowning in a terrible BBQ sauce. The bacon wasn't cooked enough, and the patty had no flavor at all. The fries were good, but cold. It was pretty disappointing. The decor of the restaurant is cool though. It's attached to the Margaritaville hotel which you have to go through if you want to use the restroom. I wouldn't be back here to eat but there is a cool rooftop bar. I would try that instead.

Yelp
The absolute best experience we had on our trip! The food was delicious, the drinks were amazing, couldn't be a better late night dinner. Our server was one of the most incredible people we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Surprised that this place wasn't more packed on a Friday night. Great vibes, great food, great experience! Will definitely be back whenever we travel!

Yelp
RIP Jimmy Buffett... I visited the LandShark Bar & Grill which is the flagship restaurant at the new Margaritaville Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter several days before he passed. The property used to be the Hotel Solamar before the multi-million dollar renovation. LandShark is one of three dining establishments on the property and is located on the ground floor wrapping around two sides of the building. The theme was a casual, beachy vibe like the rest of the hotel. The menu featured typical bar fare categories... appetizers, salads, entrees, burgers, sandwiches, and desserts. The prices were slightly higher because of the touristy aspect and premium downtown location. The only item I ordered was the Grilled Teriyaki Salmon ($28). This entree came as a marinated salmon fillet on a bed of mango-ginger rice with roasted broccoli and furikake sprinkled on top. The salmon was cooked to the right degree, however too much sauce was added. Extra amounts were sprinkled around the circumference of the plate which was unnecessary. There was certainly some neat decor that was worthy of snapping pictures. Even the adjacent hotel lobby had photogenic works of art to reflect Margaritaville. For the food quality and price though, it was average at best. Plenty of other cuisine choices were available nearby so the rating for my dining experience at the LandShark Bar & Grill was three stars.

Yelp
After visiting the 5 o'clock Bar on the rooftop, we stopped in for a Margarita to celebrate the passing of Jimmy Buffett. We got a couple of places at the bar. The bartenders were attentive so we got our drinks fast. Ordered some Beach Chips which are fresh homemade potato chips with cheese and bacon, really tasty. There was some confusion over the price of the drink, the sign out front stated happy hour prices during the week and all day Sunday $9 Margaritas but the $9 price was not honored. The place is a new favorite and we will definitely be back.

Yelp
So after my sushi spot was closed we decided to give this spot a try since it's relatively new. We were seated and immediately asked for our drinks. We ordered the chips and dips and it was honestly very disappointing. The cheese dip was cold and lacked any discernible flavor. We mentioned it to our server and was brought a fresh one. The 2nd one wasn't that much better, but our entrees arrived. The burger was good and the fries were fresh and crispy. The burger got a bit messy since they put the sauce under the pattie. My friend enjoyed her salad and had zero complaints. A nice little spot to check out with live music from time to time, just take your time choosing your food.

Yelp
Went here on a Wednesday night with my girlfriends, the interior design was nice, everywhere you looked there was something to look at. They had a live band playing it was nice but a bit loud but still good with the vibe they had going on. Our server was very nice and very attentive, always asked us what we needed and she would be right there! Amazing service. She even walked us by the bathrooms cause it was a bit confusing. Food was great very big portions! I got the BBQ burger and it was delicious! My other girlfriend got the same thing and one other got the turkey club and her plate was humongous! And my other friend got the nachos which was also pretty big. I like the portion for the prices it's pretty good! Now the drinks...I got the spicy mangorita and it was bomb dot com, definitely will be coming back here if not for the food then for the drinks! Since this place is part of the hotel, we got to hang out in the lobby of the actual hotel and they had really cute picture opp super cute and chic. Definitely recommend coming here and just hang out and have a drink.

Yelp
Service is great here at the bar! Friendly, and on it staff take care of you. The food is good too. Had wings, house made potato chips (my favorite) and a cheesesteak sandwich. Drinks are delicious too!
google avatar

Yelp
Good atmosphere and tasty food had a burger for a quick snack and a beer to go with it. The bartender was also nice and was quick.

Yelp
Went here on a whim for brunch. The place was completely empty and the hostess ushered us in. I was reluctant to eat here because it's still fairly new. Service was great but it took way too long to get our food. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was average.I split the pancakes with berries and those were fine, nothing special. The value per price is not there. It's okay food for high prices. It's downtown and I get that but I just think the quality could be higher for what it is. Burrito was $18

Rosa F.

Yelp
Siyovush was an amazing bartender! Made the greatest margaritas extra spicy! went above and beyond with his service
google avatar

Tanya C.

Yelp
We were a little disappointed by this place. Came here for margaritas, since this restaurant is a part of Margaritaville. You'd think they'd have great margaritas. First, bar service was very slow. Second, they don't have blended margaritas...what?! Margaritaville doesn't have blended margaritas?! When we finally received our margaritas, they weren't served in a margarita glass. I had to ask for one and poured it into the glass. It just wasn't the Margaritaville vibe I was hoping for. The food was just ok. The chicken club had one piece of bacon on it. The fries are in small portions and we had to send back one batch because they were cold. Philly cheesesteak sandwich was good. Overall, not worth the money we spent.
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Was in town for business and stopped in for dinner. The service was great. Staff was friendly and attentive. Had the Philly steak and chips. The sandwich was hot and fresh. The Philly steak was very salty, and the homemade chips were not, which was strange. They had live music at night, and it was quite loud, to loud for my taste. The place was just OK.

Mallory M.

Yelp
Siyovush was the absolute best!! 10/10 need to come in and see him!! best service, super kind and attentive.

Tirso C.

Yelp
I would like to compliment your atmosphere, food, service, and your team, especially Siyovush! Your employees creates a friendly environment, and as a local, I highly resonate with it. Thank you!

Yelp
I came into town for a business trip and was staying at Margaritaville in gaslamp district. I was the only customer because it was late at night but service was second to none! The waitress was attentive to me and answered all of my questions and took her time to suggest items on the menu. She went out of get way to get me ice cream with my dessert. Oh and the wings? To die for

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Siyovush is so kind and helpful! he was very knowledgeable abt the menu and he definitely makes me want to come back! :)

Yelp
This place is amazing! Siyovush is incredible and will be the reason I come back every time I am in San Diego. Give him a big fat raise!
google avatar

Yelp
I came by for breakfast after staying the night downtown last weekend. Greeted right away but almost as quickly forgot about after getting a menu. The waitress and a lady on a laptop had more pressing issues to discuss apparently. Inside is nice & clean. Food was ok. Omelette tasted like an omelette. A little overcooked for my liking. Breakfast potatoes appear to be the basic preseasoned freezer bag squares. I have never had such small pieces of sour dough toast in my life. And this is one of the places that has jumped on board the single slice of toast train. Will try again for a cheeseburger in paradise next time.

Yelp
*jaws music starts to play. Me and fiancé had the best of times drinking our feelings at the bar for tops. Between the bartendA and the Daytona 500 speed of the staff, it was nothing short of an amazing stop on our vacation. I totally forgot the bartenders name, I think it Brian? Ryan? Dennis? Who knows, who cares am I right? Highly recky this place. So no matter if your running for your life, running the amazing race, or running away from your boyfriend, just make sure you run right into this place. So thank you to the SharkBaiters and the waiters and the RyanATors. It's been fun, it's been real, and it's been one hell of a sharking good time. *jaws music starts to play again.

Yelp
Great old fashioned and excellent ceaser Chicken Caesar Salad. Live music which is a little load but nicely done. The place has a nice vibe and the great San Diego weather makes it a great experience.

Kaylee D.

Yelp
Siyovush was amazing!!! He was very attentive at the bar and understood everything I wanted in a cocktail! 10/10 service I will definitely be back for him!

J V.

Yelp
Worst place to eat! If you have an 1/1/2 hrs to wait, have at it. Suuuuuuper slow unless you're at the bar. There's other places we could've gone and regret we didn't. Bottom line don't come on game day . Apparently it's too much traffic for this place!
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Tried this place out after the baseball game on Saturday night and did not realize the place had only been open for about 2 weeks. The Gaslamp was packed with baseball fans so this place was pretty busy but they were nice enough to seat us within 15 minutes since we stayed and waited by the front door. Our waitress was very nice and provided excellent service. She did explain to us that they had only been open for 2 weeks so their beer tap wasn't working but it was fine since they had $5 specials on maragaritas. We decided to try one and it was just okay. I had the Philly cheesesteak and my wife had the carne asada tacos but they ran out of salsa so it was hard to judge the tacos without the salsa. The cheesesteak was good but nothing special. The great customer service made it worth our while but they definitely need some time to improve. We'll visit again when we come back to catch another baseball game and see if things are bette then.

Patty C.

Yelp
What a great time! And Siyovush was the best server I've had in San Diego! I highly recommend this place!!

Yelp
we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!! allthe staff has been above and beyond stellar!! ryan, jack, brett, and travis ×2 have been so much fun!! best food and drinks ever!! we will be back!!

Yelp
Great service, food and drink. Sales rep for JB so great. Awesome bartenders and staff - Downtown SD hotel. Awesome style for the hotel.

Eric A.

Yelp
Meh. There are better brunch spots. We got there and asked if there was a drink menu and our server said there was none but the bar could pretty much make whatever we wanted. For a surf and turf themed, Margaritaville resort, we felt that this was a missed opportunity to have fun drinks like umm I don't know 'Shark Bite' or 'San Diego Sunset'. My husband wanted to go there because he loves salsa macha which they advertised they use it in their chilaquiles. He said it tasted like they took peanut butter, salsa, and mixed it together. Our server was great though. Price point was too high for what we were served. Chilaquiles, salmon toast, two mimosas, and cranberry juice for $85. Probably tourist prices.
google avatar

Amber E.

Yelp
Fun Margaritaville ambiance. Pretty varied menu with burgers, salads, tacos, chicken, steak, salmon, etc. we shared a teriyaki grilled salmon plate with broccoli and rice, and added a side salad. It was quite good, and plenty to share. There was a good live band playing, but was pretty loud for a restaurant. Really too loud to hold a conversation. But overall, a good dinner.

Paden C.

Yelp
Bartender was the best. Siyovush was so fun and gave us great service. I totally want to visit again. I recommend this place if you're in the area. Great drinks and a great vibe.

Isabella R.

Yelp
Gilbert and Ryan were amazing!! Best Margs in town!! Great customer service, made our stay at the hotel worth it!
google avatar

Darryl G.

Yelp
When we dined at Landshark, it was busy and vibrant as it was filled with Padres fans enjoying the food and drinks before they went to the game. There is live music playing, and a menu that has tacos, sandwiches, steaks and other signature dishes. The decor is super cool - even with a Margaritaville plane on the roof. Love all the open garage doors as it gave a very open and bright feeling to the room. Of course I had to get a signature Jimmy Buffett burger.

GarfileMyTaxes M.

Yelp
Food was pretty good, margaritas were only $5. Our waiter, Francisco, was the absolute greatest, was very nice to everyone and visited our table multiple times to check up on us. The 5 stars is mostly for Francisco, he was the best.

Bob A.

Yelp
Great food and service. Katrina our waitress was the best part of it. She went the extra mile and got everything we needed including my unusual request for ginger beer that was hiding somewhere. I had the fish tacos with Caesar salad and my friend had the salad and a grain bowl. We were both impressed and prices were reasonable too. It is a nice and clean and casual place.

Yelp
Brett the Bartender is amazing! Cool vibe and great view of the city (from rooftop bar and pool)
