"Lankford’s Grocery and Market is an undeniable, family-owned Houston institution that has served some of the city’s best burgers for decades. In May, a new generation opened a second location in Bellaire, where diners can expect some upgrades. The more modern space sports a self-serve tap system with over 20 beers, ciders, and wines to choose from, but worry not. The menu still includes Lankford’s standout menu of creamy milkshakes, crispy fries, and burgers, including the beloved Grim Burger — a bacon cheeseburger topped with mac and cheese, jalapeños, and a fried egg." - Minh Truong, Sean Hekmat

Google
We had a great Sunday lunch/brunch here. The Eggs Benedict, BLT, and South of the Border burger were all yummy! 😋 The onion rings and fried pickles had a crisp and not-oily coating. Soooo good!!!

Jocilyn Hudson

Google
Spent Sunday afternoon with my Dad … been meaning to come here since many travel foodies come here … and rave about the burgers! Great food and customer service! My Dad has early onset Alzheimer’s and dementia… so when he said he wanted a burger …I was on it! He lives 8 minutes away and well the opportunity presented itself! 😋 I went where I knew he’d love the ambiance… nostalgia and food! What did we order? The patty melt … 🤤 fried green tomatoes 😋 were so dang good!🍔 My dad enjoyed his cheeseburger! He wants to come back!

Google
Just wow. Perfect spot for a laid back Sunday afternoon meal. I've been to the original Lankford's, but first time at this location, and everything was awesome. Great food, good atmosphere, LOVE the beer tap wall, and the staff was amazing. We were so busy devouring the food, that by the time I remembered to take pics the sides were mostly gone, and I was down to half a burger. The Grimm Burger was delicious. We'll be back!

Gretchen Wolf

Google
First time here, but definitely won't be my last! My cheeseburger tasted so delicious ! The handcut fries and fried pickles were all just as delicious ! Mondays you can get a hamburger/cheeseburger fries and a drink for $12 , you can't find that kinda bargain these days ! Great atmosphere, the wait staff were attentive and very helpful ! I enjoyed my visit and will return!

Regenia Mitchell

Google
Love the atmosphere of Lanksford. It is comfortable and inviting. Great place to hang with friends while enjoying good food! Had a Turkey burger, Bacon cheeseburger style and it did not disappoint! Staff is friendly and kind. Will be back!

Google
Lankford Bellaire, y’all did me right. Burger was juicy, fries were golden crispy, and the vibes were immaculate. 10/10, will crave again. MMMMMM super yum. I loved the beer wall, wow so many options.

eric reynoso

Google
The food was incredible! Highly recommend the fried Oreos and the Grim burger. Best burgers in town. Cannot wait to come back.

Cheryn Pollard

Google
Love the original location and had read mixed reviews about the new one. We had an amazing meal with excellent service. We shared a lot of sides. (sorry didn’t take pictures of it all). The fries were crispy, the fried pickles were good, the chicken wings were delicious (both barbeque and buffalo versions), and my favourite were the Chicken cracklins with a sweet chilli sauce. The desserts were really good too. One person in our group had an Oreo milkshake and said it was amazing.

Maggie T.

Yelp
Came here last week to catch up with long time friends. Lankford's staff and appetizers made our time really enjoyable. The jalapeño bottle caps were our favorite!

Shreeya M.

Yelp
The Jalepeno bottlecaps were awesome. The customer service was also very great! Definitely give them a try if you are in the area.

Angela K.

Yelp
Ordered the "grim" burger, and it was good, but I felt like it was lacking flavor overall. Got a nice kick from the jalapeños, but the Mac and cheese was on the blander side, and I couldn't even taste cheese in general. Super filling with the addition of the bacon and sunny side up egg. The burger would be complete with some sauce!! Ketchup will get the job done though. Curly fries were great!! Portion was smaller than expected, but the quality of the fries exceeded all expectations. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Sooo crispy. Also, I will say I was very impressed by how hot our food remained after taking it to go and being out for a full hour. When I opened up the burger once we got home, it was like it was served fresh. Good amounts of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking lot is relatively small! Lankford's seems like a nice place to chill at. They have a self serve beer on tap station against the wall.

Yelp
I have visited the original Lankford's several times over the years. Ever since they hit their TV fame. Their newest location, in Bellaire, has the same food but it's a little different. We'll talk about that soon. I stopped by on a Monday evening for dinner and parked in their complimentary lot without any issues. Ambiance (3.5/5): Unlike the original location, which is a little cramped, this one is more spacious. There's table seating and booth seating. And they have TVs showing sports games including Monday Night Football while I was there. The downside? They close at 9 p.m. which is way too early, especially when Monday Night Football isn't even over when you close down. We sat at a table with a good view of one of the TVs. Service (3.5/5): Pretty non-existent. You order your food at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Drinks (4/5): One of the few places in town that I know that has a self-service beer wall. Pick up a bracelet with the cashier, and then pour whatever beers you want to your heart's content. Most of the beers are local craft brews. While it's a cool concept, it does tend to get a bit pricey. Food (3/5): While there's more on the menu, they're known for their burgers so that's what I would recommend. I went with the pimento cheese burger with queso fries. You know a burger joint is undelivering when their fries shine more than their burgers do. That's what happened here. While the burger wasn't bad, it was a little lackluster. The burger patty was missing the ooze or char you want to see. The pimento cheese was a nice touch and not something you find often in this part of the country. The bread, while fresh, was a little too big for the patty. The fries, on the other hand, chef's kiss. Crisp, fresh-cut, well-seasoned. Exactly what I was looking for. And these cheese on top is always a good idea because throw cheese on anything and it's better. If you're looking for a casual spot to grab some burgers and brews, Lankford's is a good spot. Just make sure to get their early enough!

Yelp
The food was neither fabulous nor terrible, it was run-of-the-mill. I ordered lemonade, which tasted like tap water. I asked the server to verify I was served the right drink, he stated it was correct and basically blew off my inquiry about it. The appetizer was Fired Green Tomatoes, whose batter fell off mushy greenies. My Partner ordered Firehouse Burger, requested Medium and seemed okay with it. I ordered Swiss Mushroom Burger Medium Rare. The burger arrived well done. Sent it, Cook was not familiar with Med/rare. Staff needs extensive training. Wished this place was anywhere near to founding location. This place will be the end of my list.

Kacy M.

Yelp
Lankford's is delicious, affordable, and a no nonsense, no frills burger. I always get the bacon cheeseburger cooked medium rare. You get the perfect ratio of bun, meat, and toppings. The onion rings are huge and battered perfectly and the tater tots are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The people here are very nice and friendly and will check on you throughout your meal. This location is closer to me than their midtown spot so for that I'm glad. The only complaint I have is that their parking lot absolutely sucks (size, spacing, entrance/exit, all of it...but it beats street/no parking any day).

CJ C.

Yelp
The food is great and the beer wall is absolutely fantastic!! Will come back for the second time for sunday football.

Cynthia E.

Yelp
Loved the cheese burger I had here! Burger was huge, bun was nice and soft, and they load it with toppings! I switched out American for cheddar and added jalapeños. I also had some mac and cheese, but I was kinda full from the burger to eat that much of it. Fries were good but some of them were slightly under cooked and they came out way after the burger, so we didn't eat that many of them. They give you a ton though! The young guys that run the place were friendly and checked in on us a few times. I lost the coupon I had and asked them about it, but they couldn't honor anything because of the QR code, which was a bummer but I understand. Overall, great food and friendly service. Most likely will be back :)

Juan Manuel J.

Yelp
Delicious freshly cooked burgers and lovely service. I will come again for A GRIM OR A MUSHROOM SWISS

Mike M.

Yelp
I visited this newish outpost of Lankford's recently for lunch. Being a fan of the original, I was looking forward to a good meal. Upon arriving I immediately noticed that the parking situation is only slightly better here than the OG spot. Here, it's in a small strip center and you have to compete for parking with the other businesses. Inside it attractively decorated looking much newer but the original more local charm. This location is table service and I ordered the regular burger for ($10) and added fries ($4) and a soft drink ($3). The waiter told me that the fries here are hand cut as opposed to frozen at the original spot. The food arrived about 10 minutes later. The burger was big, delicious and a little sloppy as I remembered at the original. Sloppy means a little drippy but in a good way. The mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions on a big brioche bun with a 1/2 lb beef patty made me happy (4). The fries were another story. While they looked good being brown in color they were sopping wet in oil. I mean like they just jumped out of a swimming pool. I ate the burger first to give them time to dry and even then they were still quite wet. Also, they were undercooked with a dense raw potato tasting center. They disappointed me and I only ate a few (1). If there is a next time here for me it will either be trying the onion rings or just the burger by itself. Also since this is a table service eatery the tip makes this meal eat up every bit of a $20 bill and more. Remember, I ordered their cheapest burger. Honestly, I think I would only go back to the OG location with it interior charm and lower overall cost. I'll give a 3 here but no more.

Yelp
Lankford's in Bellaire now serves breakfast, and the menu is full of options. The kitchen is slow, but turns out breakfast plates customized to your preference. Order at the counter, and friendly waitstaff bring your order to the table. Very happy to find a new breakfast/brunch option in Bellaire.

Holly H.

Yelp
Pretty solid burger joint with massive portions. The burger was too big for me to finish but it was delicious. It probably doesn't help that I ate half a basket of fried pickles before I got my burger. I also tried the chocolate milkshake which we added Oreo to. It's a cute little place and the service is good.

Taylor H.

Yelp
The burger was really really good. Now it's not your usual burger contents, but when I heard it was their number one - I had to try it! My boyfriend also had the wings and thought they were good. The service was great. The restaurant is not super big so it was easy to get good service. Plus my waiter was able to help me navigate through my burger selection based on all my likes. The restaurant was super chill, no loud music, with seating outside and inside.

Gene S.

Yelp
Food was great! Staff was attentive!!! Will definitely be back! Good music and several big screens. For beer lovers, they have 21 taps besides bottled and wine. Right now, just 3 of 21 taps are out of service.

Douglas A.

Yelp
I decided to give the specials at Lankford's Bellaire another chance. While it was a better meal than my last "special" experience at Lankford's Bellaire, it was still vastly inferior to the original Lankford's location. My most recent visit to the original Lankford Grocery was also on a Wednesday and the meal was fantastic. I had the Beef Enchilada Special. Here is my comparison visit at the Bellaire Lankford's location: Original chips & salsa: A - house made chips, the salsa tasted better. Bellaire chips & salsa: C - the chips seemed store bought and the salsa had an acidic almost alcoholic taste. Original beans & rice: B - the beans were similar to borracho beans. Bellaire beans & rice: C - the beans were mixed together with something I can't place, and were less tasteful. Original beef enchiladas: A+ - the beef was seasoned so well, they were the best beef enchiladas I've ever had. Bellaire beef enchiladas: B- - the beef was seasoned very little. Overall, this cemented that from now on, I'll only get burgers here. I'd recommend the original location for the specials.

Emily K.

Yelp
We tried Lankford's for the first time on their soft opening weekend and had a great time! While it was crowded, it was understandable for their first weekend, and the staff let us know there would be a wait right away. This gave us an excuse to order cocktails while our food was being made, which turned out to be great. I highly recommend the mai tai. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, and my husband ordered the firehouse - both were delicious, and I especially liked the brioche buns. Our waiter was very friendly, and the ambiance was great. There is seating both inside and outside. We can't wait to come back and try their milkshakes!

Cassandra M.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews. Apparently Lankford's is not new in Houston, although this particular location is new(ish). (This location used to be a good BBQ place.) First of all, it is really cute inside. I got a bacon cheeseburger and shared onion rings with a friend. The servers were nice, and they worked together to make sure everyone was taken care of. The food was really good and fresh. Give it a shot!

Rachel E.

Yelp
This is some of the best food in town. By far the best burgers and Patty melts I have ever had. I also love their curly fries and Oreo milkshakes. Staff was so nice to us and the outside patio is so fun and dog friendly too which we really appreciated. You should definitely support this local business!

Sandra K.

Yelp
Great customer service. The manager was excellent and Chloe also took good care of us. Food came out hot and fresh and it was a large amount of food especially the kids items. The fries were a little soggy but the onion rings and tater tots were on point.

Cherry A.

Yelp
When visiting Lankford''s, be sure to go with an empty stomach and a little extra time to enjoy their full menu. While the trivia might get me there on Thursdays, I confess that I may be thinking about their burgers, daily. Recently, I enjoyed a lettuce-wrapped burger, and this might possibly will be my now go-to order. Thanks to a recent Yelp event, I learned about this originally through a burger UYE back in the stone ages of Yelp. The owners are all friendly, the burgers are juicy, and I had no idea the drink menu would be so complete and extensive. Also, they feature weekly trivia, hosted by Geeks who Drink on Thursdays and you couldn't ask for more. Located in a triangular type strip mall, I've always been able to find parking, perhaps the parking gods have smiled upon me. Paul, the owner has a dazzling smile and always willing to provide you with the best service. .Jessica, owner who is very welcoming and is always there to greet you. MILLIE, the server has got to be one of my favorites; so very attentive and has a professional disposition. You can only find me there only in n days that end in the letter Y. 5/5 stars. Highly recommend, will return so hard.

Kate B.

Yelp
They are doing half off breakfast in September and we wanted to give it a try. The service was awesome. The food was pretty good. I think they are still working out some kinks. Skip the coffee. Order the chicken fried steak and eggs. Go for the biscuit. Skip the pancake.

Clint M.

Yelp
This place is in serious need of work. I get that they just opened and are working out the kinks, but they are simply not on the same page right now and it's causing the service to be terrible. When we arrived, there was no one at the host stand so we started looking around for a table or the bar. The hostess came back and interrupted our search, then got us seated. We waited about 20 minutes, looking around for waiters, including someone attempting to drop off something before we'd even ordered, before one of the waiters realized we hadn't been helped. We might have ordered at the right time, because it only took about 20 minutes for our burgers to come out when others appeared to be waiting 30+ minutes. The wait staff definitely didn't have a clue what was going on, with lots of crossover between tables and seemingly no order to who was covering what. They also didn't have an efficient way of explaining their self-service beer taps, leaving them inaccessible to customers for a long time while they answered a series of questions about something they couldn't even serve. The burgers were decent, with fresh ingredients, but didn't seem anywhere near worth the price point. I've had a better, albeit slightly smaller, Mushroom Swiss Burger at Whataburger for half the price. The Firehouse burger had a slight kick, but much like the other burger, the specialty ingredients just got washed out by the toppings that are included in all of the burgers. Our server, Jose, was the main reason I didn't go for a one star review. From the moment he realized we had been ignored, he tried to improve the experience. I'd come back to give this place another try for him alone.

Dee D.

Yelp
The burger was pretty good. I had a burger with jalapeños and it was spicy. Not much seasoning. But overall it was good. The service was super fast and friendly. They were pretty crowded but I really didn't wait for anything. The fries were really good. Overall for what I paid for it was just mediocre. But it's a family owned place and food costs are too expensive. Outdoor seating is a plus when it's not too hot. The inside is cute and cozy.

Christine L.

Yelp
Solid burgers. Great neighborhood place. Salads are not so fresh so don't expect much. Come for burgers.

Rohan P.

Yelp
Fantastic burgers, great milkshakes, and full bar. We loved eating here and will be back. Staff is very nice too and it's locally owned...everyone should come by! Also the decor and TVs are great.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Food was fresh and delicious! Met one of the owners who was super sweet. Atmosphere was nice! If you are ever in that area give them a try!

Cabrina B.

Yelp
Favorite burgers Houston, big burgers and delicious curly fries, fun atmosphere. I get the Firehouse and it is very spicy but so delicious. Also recommend the pimento burger or the philly.

Theresa C.

Yelp
We received excellent service. Robert ended up watching over us and took excellent care of us. This was our second visit and our friend's first. Will be back again. Good food and good service.

Jennifer U.

Yelp
Absolutely love Lankford's and so glad that we have one in Bellaire! Their burgers are incredible and almost everything is made from scratch. Their fried pickles were always a fave and their new bottle caps (fried jalapeños) are the best I've had. The Firehouse burger is my favorite and their beef quality is the best!

Chi-Chi L.

Yelp
Nice little neighborhood burger spot. Walk in and they have a nice beer wall with a good variety. +1 for the friendly staff. Food was good. My wife was happy with her burger and the onion rings are spectacular. The fish and shrimp combo was tasty. I was not a fan of the thick cut fries, but that is more of a preference thing.

Lotus H.

Yelp
Soft opening in May. I was impressed with the new look, great beer wall and attentive staff. There was a limited menu due to the soft opening and vendors were still delivering items. Did not get the famous greasy burger as it was breakfast time- bacon omelette was a bit on the dry side, but portion was huge. Clean, attentive staff, and can't wait to come back to do a burger and try the beers

Jon H.

Yelp
The place has great curb appeal. Looks like a small town diner. If you are a beer enthusiast, they have a lot of options. They have mostly a burger menu. There are a few other options but the focus tends to be the burgers. The speed of service was good. The burger was not really good. I ordered it medium and it definitely was well done. It is flattened to death too and was not juicy at all. The sunny side up egg was actually a fried egg. The chili cheese fries were absolutely swimming in chili cheese- just way too much for the number of fries. They were good, but difficult to find the fries. While kids could come, I don't get a kids vibe- seems more geared to middle aged beer drinkers and the food is geared towards the same. It was very clean and nice inside. If you are looking for a place to watch the game and have drinks with friends, this is the place. If you are looking for a good meal, you may be disappointed. I would come back, but it would not be my first choice.

Tim C.

Yelp
My wife got the fried green tomatoes appetizer and didn't care for them, 2 stars. Not much breading on one side and kind of soggy. I tried one and agree with her. I thoroughly enjoyed a Firehouse burger, firehouse sauce, cayenne butter, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato and onions on a brioche bun....this burger had some serious heat....me likey! These are 1/2 pound angus burgers and it filled me up. We'll be back for more burgers for sure. Fried green maters need more work. They have 20 different brews on tap and sell by the ounce, i'll ask for more info next visit. They also do mixed drinks. They don't offer their full menu yet but they're getting there. Service was very good. There's more parking on the side away from the front entrance.

Bryan M.

Yelp
Burger was below average for the price I paid for , staff was nice but the food was not good at all I wouldn't come back here very disappointing

Jackie K.

Yelp
This new Lankford's location on Bellaire offers burgers that are just as juicy and tasty as the burgers at its original location in Montrose. The main difference is that the Lankford's in Montrose has more of a hole-in-the-wall vibe, while the Bellaire location has more of a casual, family restaurant feel. The burger was simply great, and the Oreo milkshake was obviously so good. I personally preferred the tater tots over the french fries, though the french fries were good too. Our server was very nice. One little bonus is that they have a tiny little playground area for the kids (geared more toward the toddler age) on the patio.

Goose G.

Yelp
Not the same as the original but that's usually the case. They don't have the same homeless people problems as the downtown location. Don't ask how you would like your burger cooked if they all come out well done. Still trying to figure out why would you put bell peppers on the Patty Melt. Service was the best thing.

Leilani B.

Yelp
Recently stopped in for the 1st time ever after telling myself i wouldn't spend my money there due to the awful treatment at the downtown location just walking in and asking for a table for two. Seems WE maybe didn't belong received an icy cold shoulder so I gave up on them long ago. Fast forward we we're driving home from Bellaire recently & decided to give this location a try. We discovered the most amazing server ever Jared. He was so welcoming & knowledgeable about the menu...recommended the onion rings which were the best I've ever had & told us all about the WALL of BEER. The food was super tasty and we were pleasantly surprised. Definitely will return.

Donna C.

Yelp
Definitely should give up. Just NOT good! Cold, greasy food is not worth paying $35 for! Maybe they should learn from JLB. JLB serves fresh, hot, delicious hamburgers & onion rings!

Michelle R.

Yelp
The club sandwich was pretty good and a pretty hefty portion. The fried green tomatoes with ranch were fantastic. The tater tots and fries were good, but unfortunately weren't very warm when they got to our table. The service was okay, but it was quite busy during the evening causing the service to run a little slow.

Richard J.

Yelp
Solid 4. I went to the original Lankford's several times a good 20+ years ago, and was delighted by the announcement that they were opening a second location in Bellaire, which is much more convenient for me. I made my first visit today and ordered the South of the Border burger with a turkey patty. Finding a good turkey burger in Houston is frustratingly hard, especially since Cafe Express deep-sixed it from their menu (cold hard stare at Cafe Express, I've not set foot back in their restaurants since), so I was pleasantly surprised to see that turkey burgers were an option for all burgers on the Lankford menu. As for the taste - yum! The pico gave the burger a nice little kick, and the add-ons were appropriately scaled and not overwhelming. I will definitely return to explore the menu further, and to satisfy my turkey burger cravings. Just a heads-up, the parking lot is a bit tricky and small, but fear not because you'll find that if it's full there are all kinds of spaces close by if you just snake around the area a bit.

Laurie B.

Yelp
Jeannie took great care of our party of 11. Sunday evening dinner for a special occasion. Everyone's meal was great and so was the service.

Armiya H.

Yelp
Phenomenal food! Had such a good time eating here - staff was great and the beer wall was so cool. You have to give it a try and so glad to have good food in Bellaire finally!

Jay P.

Yelp
Pros Food was good Came out quick My son is a fan Cons waitress was rude Tried to give us the bill after 15 mins Halfway into my burger She looked pissed to be there and was very short to us even tho we were the only guest I saw in there at the time

Mei S.

Yelp
My first time here, as I was passing by. On a Friday, the place had more employees than patrons, surprising. I thought this was an icon. Ordered fried green tomatoes, and my server said that was her favorite! She wanted to give me suggestions but I asked for a few minutes to read, so she stormed off. Came back one, literally one minute laterto ask for my order again. To save time, I said, "I'll give you my order but can you place it later? I would really like to have my appetizers first". She said "sure" and took my order. I wanted my cheese burgers lettuce-wrapped. She said the can't do that. Hhmmm... You're a burgers place with lettuce! You CAN use those lettuce, no? OK, we settled on putting my cheese burger on a bed of lettuce, that's the best they can do. How about grilled onion? Yes, she said they can do that. Two minutes later, a lady came full handed. A basket for my appetizer and a plate with meat. Gotta give you credit for fast service, but what about the request for my food LATER??? Oh, and there were grilled onions and small amount of shredded lettuce on the bottom of the burger. Not sure how I was going to eat this, since you have NO KNIVES... only a fork and a long spoon for malts were included in the silverware wrap. You folks have much to figure out and fix!

Nick S.

Yelp
I went here with several others including kids on a Saturday night a few weeks ago and service was excellent. Everyone was attentive and food came out fairly quick. The burgers are large and juicy, not tiny like some places that do the thin smash patty style. Kids liked their hot dogs and mac and cheese. The only negative was the milkshake. It was a bit watery and not thick like shakes should be. Plenty of seating. Parking is in a strip area lot. It's not a large lot but should provide sufficient parking most times. I would definitely come back for the burgers.

jamie w.

Yelp
So goo! Food was amazing and staff was so nice and attentive! The breakfast was incredible - got the migas.

Caleb H.

Yelp
Food was not great. I ordered the firehouse burger with a side of onion rings. The onion rings was all bread and no onions and the part of the onion in there was like chewing paper. The burger was average. No flavor (juice). The waiter was nice. It's a loud place where kids just run around. The original Lankford's is betters this place does not have the charm the original one. This one is about making the money only. I will not return.

Stacy D.

Yelp
Visited the Bellaire location today and the service was GREAT but the food lacked big time sadly. Burgers were over cooked, under seasoned and just weren't tasty. We also found some sort of bone or something in it, maybe cartilage. We didn't complain, but told the serve about it. She kinda looked at it and shrugged her shoulders. I really wanted to like this place, but the burgers just weren't good.

Yelp
Today my husband and me tried this place. We each tried their hamburgers, onion rings, fried green tomatoes and French fries. Everything was delicious and will definitely be going back to try other things on their menu. I also have to mention Neil one of the owners. He was extremely friendly and very personable. Wish more places had people like him.
