Update following management response:
Dear Francesco. Your MOD did not visit the table. The server even commented that she did let him know we were upset about the experience, but it was ultimately up to him whether he wanted to say a word or not. It is totally unacceptable for a manager to "avoid" the issue; especially when you're having an empty restaurant.
Review from someone who grew up eating the original Michele's in Napoli, Italy.
What a shame on the name of Michele! I was excited about the new opening in Long Beach having visited and enjoyed the food at the Hollywood location many times and personally knowing some of the people behind it. What a disaster in so many ways.
The pizza was paper thin, burnt on the edges and not made with the authentic mozzarella they would normally use, which would normally melt and cover the entire pizza.
The dough was clearly under-proofed which results in a thin and crispy crust as opposed to the chewy and doughy crust with the signature "bubbles" I would expect from a "Verace".
I asked to talk to the pizza chef but the server said she would send the manager instead. Manager never showed up to address our concerns.
On top of the pricy and disappointing meal, I was appalled by the low level of customer service I know the Michele brand doesn't deserve.
We stood at the door and no one acknowledged our party. I had to up to the bartender, who called the hostess, who then sat us. No server came to the table so I went up to the hostess, who finally sent a server.
We asked about happy hour and were told it is only offered in the bar area (this is common so I asked if we can move to the high tops). I asked if we could move to get the happy hour (the place was completely empty at 4 pm) and was told we couldn't because we had a child with us.
Having worked in restaurants my entire life and, once again, having been to the Hollywood location so many times, I have never received this level of service. So if you're a family, no happy hour for you? What kind of rule is that.
Finally, they don't have wifi. Which is fine if you don't want to offer wifi to your customer, but the excuse the server gave completely cracked me up: "Our servers need so much bandwidth that we cannot operate if we give it away". Just LOL.
Cute place with parking though!
