Where to Find the Best Dumplings in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"The Jusgo Supermarket food court includes a stall doling out batches of delicious dumplings. Order everything from crab roe dumplings, pork and vegetable wontons, and soup dumplings to pan-fried pork dumplings and Shanghai shumai stuffed with sticky rice, mushrooms, and ground pork. Since all dumplings are handmade to order, they do take a bit of time but are worth the wait." - Candy Hom

The Best Dim Sum Restaurants in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Although dim sum originated in the Guangdong region of China, its concept traveled up north over time, and Shanghai-style dim sum evolved into a distinct variation, developing its own unique characteristics. Order traditional Shanghai dim sum at Lao Wei Dao such as crab and pork xiao long baos, pan-fried pork dumplings, and scallion pancakes at this counter service food stall inside Jusgo supermarket. There is a kiosk for easy ordering, but be patient as the dumplings are handmade to order here. No rolling carts, counter service, closed Wednesdays." - Candy Hom

The Best Dumplings In Atlanta

"Crab Meat Pork Soup Dumplings, Pan Fried Pork Dumplings Handmade soup dumplings are a rarity in the area, but luckily for people in Duluth, they only have to trek to the Jusgo Supermarket food court for fresh ones at Lao Wei Dao. We prefer the crab meat pork soup dumplings over the standard pork soup versions since the broth has more layers of flavor. But also try their pan fried pork dumplings, which are some of the best we’ve had. Let them cool before taking a bite though since they are almost as juicy as the soup dumplings. Lao Wei Dao gets busy on the weekends, and since the dumplings are made from scratch, it could take awhile to fulfill your order. But the staff are unbelievably kind so you’ll feel welcomed during the wait. " - candy hom

Located within the food court of Jusgo Supermarket. The fried pork bun was delicious. Took 20 min to come out. They charge 3.5% more if paid by credit card. Overall good experience. Would return for other dishes.

Google
Wow where do I begin to rave a about this place. Lao Wei Dao is one of the best places in Atlanta i have tried to get fresh hand made variations of dumplings. The pork bao soup buns are amazing. The pork dumplings along with chili oil on the side are so good a nice soft chewy texture. The beef and scallion pancakes are a meal in its self. The pork shrimp wonton soup was loaded with juicy large dumplings. I highly recommend to come and try this place before trying any other dim sum restaurants in Atlanta. The price you pay for freshly hand made dumplings here is unmatched. If Icould rate this place it would be 10 🌟's.

Google
First time eating here and the xiao long bao and beef noodle soup did not disappoint at all! The warm broth and beef were so delicious and noodles very filling. The crab soup dumplings were tastier than the pork but both very good! The lady who was working there was friendly and kind too.

Google
Delicious food, made fresh (10-20 minutes to make ready). I’ve been here 4-5 times for their dim sum. Thank you!

Google
I have had a craving for the dumplings I grew up on when I lived in New York. After researching Lao Wei Dai was recommended and was close to where I live. These are exactly the type of dumplings I've been craving. The dough is made in house and reminds me so much of the ones I grew up on. I could see to the back of the kitchen and they were hand filling the dumplings. The dumplings are a hefty size as well and filled with plenty of juice.

Google
The best soup dumplings I've had since being in NYC. Definitely the best in ATL. Everything we've had has been great. Looking forward to stopping by again.

Google
This was my first time ordering here and I had high hopes since they had what I was craving for and also great reviews related to the food and service. I only ordered 1 pan fried pork bun and I was told by the server it’ll be ready around 20 to 25 minutes- cool no worries. It took 45 minutes to almost ONE HOUR for me to receive my singular order of pan fried dumplings. Mind you, families upon families ordered not too long after me and they received their food FIRST! I’m not sure what went wrong, but I felt that they were prioritizing only the DINE IN orders instead of balancing it with the carry out orders. I also felt that when I checked on the status of my food (after 30 minutes later) that’s when they FINALLY started on my order. The baos were great, but they are not THAT great to be waiting 45 minutes to an hour for.

Google
Loved the food here. The people up front were very nice and recommended some great dishes for me. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area. The dim sum I ordered was delicious as well as the noodles.

Yelp
The PAN fried soup dumplings are so good and so was the braised beef noodle soup and for the price this was a 9 out of 10 experience . The service was 10 out of 10 and would definitely recommend also don't forget to TIP, The ambience was very different but overall very unique with cool arcade area and different vendors all Around.

Yelp
The hand made bao is great dish which start making the bao til you place the order , crispy on the bottom, soft on the top with juicy meat patty inside, the wonton soup is very authentic and tradition .

Yelp
This restaurant vendor in food court serve traditional noodle. It is in the grocery store food court. The competition in the food court is great but there are plenty people visit the food court and make that very evenly distribute the business. We got the fish preserves vegetables noodle soup. There are a lot of fish fillets in the noodle soup. The preserves vegetables make it a bit sour. Soup base is good. A lot of food that can be take the remaining home.

Yelp
Shared some yummy pan fried dumplings on a busy Saturday as it took about 20 minutes to come out. They were plump and pretty good size given they were under $10. Adding a little of the black vinegar/soy sauce into the dumpling made the bites even better! Staff were nice and provided an additional utensils or bowls requested. Would come again to try more from their menu including the Taiwanese beef noodle soups we saw other people ordering on the way out.

Yelp
So good!! If you're looking for quick and inexpensive soup dumplings and don't need the frills of a restaurant, this is your spot! The menu items are very affordable - it's very rare to find soup dumplings for under $10! Note a 3.5% fee for credit card though. The soup dumplings took 10min or so, and the other dishes followed afterwards. It looked like a family establishment and you could see them in the back hand wrapping all the dumplings, so you know it's fresh! You can enter through both the Tokyo Kuma or Jusgo entrance, it's located in between them.

Yelp
This is exactly what I was craving and super affordable. I got 3 menu items that were plenty for two people and just $20 total. We got the pork soup dumpling, the pan fried prime dumpling, and the sumai dumpling and I like them in that order. I think the sumai dumpling would've been better without the rice. If that were an option, I would've gotten that! The service was good, they even brought the food to us, which we did her expect given they don't really have waitresses. It is located in the super market so it's like a cafeteria vibe. If you're going for a place with a good vibe, this might not be the spot, but we went solely for the food and we really enjoyed it!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant after coming to check out another restaurant. It is located inside a large Chinese grocery store and with plenty of parking. We got the pan fried soup dumplings and they were very good! Great flavor and portion sizes. ** it does take about 20 minutes to come out** The Shanghai Shumai was mediocre and 2/5. AWARE THAT THEY CHARGE FOR USING CREDIT CARD!

Yelp
Food is average at best. Nothing to write home about. Those who rate the food 5 stars have never tried the real deals. This joint is supposed to offer authentic Shanghai style snacks such as Xiaolongbao, wontons and pan fried buns. I've tried all these three offerings, not even close to the real things in terms how they look and how they taste. They are more related to the northern Chinese street food. I know what I'm saying because I am an expat from Shanghai and I am now in Shanghai eating the most delicious soup dumplings and pot stickers. There is nothing in Atlanta that can compare to the choices you have in Shanghai. Those who wants to taste the real deals, hop on a plane and come to Shanghai. Sadly today is my last day here, I'll be coming back to ATL.

Yelp
Lao Wei Dao is a dumpling haven where culinary artistry meets satisfaction. The signature soup dumplings steal the show with their delicate pleats and flavorful broth, showcasing a perfect balance of tender meat and rich flavor. The menu boasts a variety of fillings, from classic pork to inventive combos like crab. The ambiance is elegant, the staff knowledgeable, and the scallion pancakes and sesame noodles complement the star attraction. For an authentic and memorable dumpling experience, Lao Wei Dao is a must-visit.

Yelp
Arrived yesterday afternoon. We were too hungry. So didn't take pics for all items. Nice food court. Some empty spaces though. This place is good. Food is very good. Wonton - huge pieces and very tasty. Perfect for the cold day. Steamed dumpling - served with vinegar. Soup inside and smooth. Sticky rice with salted egg - two piece per order - taste good. Just like the ones I had in nyc. Discount for cash payment. Will try again if in the area.

Yelp
So so good! Me and some friends were craving dumplings and decided to try out this place. Took around 10-15 minutes for the soup dumplings and they were amazing. Other families eating around and clearly loving their food.

Yelp
I don't think you can go wrong with any dishes here. But my favorite is the soup dumpling with crab meats. It is much better than the original soup dumplings. Their beef noodle soup is also the bomb. Oh don't get me started on their wonton soup. Everything is made fresh here. The wait can be long so just be patient. The lady is super friendly here.

Yelp
I was craving noodles and dumplings, and this seemed to have been the place for it. There certainly was a good amount of folks bringing their business here. Soup dumplings with pork ($6.95): The soup inside is good was the hub's comment, and it was. I really enjoyed it overall. The pork inside was tasty with a good amount of soup. Too bad I had to share the 6 dumplings with him. The wrapping was just a tad too thick compared to the ones in NY, but it was comparable. Crab meat pork dumplings ($7.95): It wasn't necessarily that much better for the $1 more in price; you still get 6 in total. I guess the flavor was a tab more bland compared to the pork one. There were some soup in these dumplings, but it wasn't as soup-y as the other. If you don't consume it immediately, the wrapping will become a little bit hard due to its thickness. Pork chili pepper noodle ($9.50): Cheap and yummy are the two descriptors. The pork and green pepper slices def added nice colors and textures to the dish. The dish overall was a bit salty imo, but the hubs didn't think so. It was overall a very good price for its portion size. Lao Wei Dao is inside the Jusgo Supermarket food court. As another Yelper pointed out, there won't be an English version to the name so be on the lookout for the bamboo basket with buns/dumplings on the inside. The business is on the left hand side that's directly facing the grocery store. Also, the store will be passing the credit card fee (3.5%) onto you so bring cash if you remember it or have it on hand.

Yelp
We were in the area and wanted some soup dumplings, and R found Lao Wei Dao on Yelp. This business has a limited Chinese food menu, but it includes items such as Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), braised beef noodle soup and Shanghai shaomai dumplings, all of which we ordered and shared. Lao Wei Dao is one of many food vendor stalls in the food court attached to Jusgo Supermarket. Seating areas are very spacious in this food court, and the many tables have space between them so that customers don't feel crowded. Lao Wei Dao's order counter faces Jusgo Supermarket, and does not have a sign with English letters on it, so, above the vendor stall, look for the sign that has a bamboo steamer (the basket in which baos are steamed) on it. The employee that took our order was nice and very customer oriented, and answered all of our questions about many of the menu items. The very attentive employee brought our food to our table within 15 minutes after we ordered. The Xiao Long Bao (6 per order) were uniform in shape and size, great tasting with a pork flavor, and we enhanced it with the vinegar/soy sauce and sliced ginger that we dipped the dumplings into and poured into. Every one of the dumplings had a good amount of soup in it. So far, these are the best tasting soup dumplings I've had in Atlanta. Although the noodles were cooked just a little past al dente, I was disappointed in the braised beef noodle soup. The broth had a too light flavor, and most of the chunks of beef were tough and had lots of chewy gristle running through the chunks. I didn't enjoy the Shanghai shaomai dumplings at all. I was expecting a light flavor, which they definitely did not have. This shaomai (4 pieces per order) had sticky rice and crumbled meat in them, had what I considered a burnt flavor and the outside of the dumplings were dry and chewy. So far, the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) is the only item on the menu that I would consider coming back to eat.

Yelp
Came here on Saturday around 1 pm! We got the xiaolongbao, shumai, and pork buns all for just around $20! The food was pretty decent- with the shumai being my favorite! It was the first time I had non shrimp shumai, and I loved the silky, lightly chewy wrapping and savory rice. The xiaolongbao was pretty good too- although it wasn't as soupy as I'm used to and the wrapper was a tad on the doughier side. The pork buns were your run of the mill pork buns but were a pretty good deal at 6 for $7.50. If you do give this place a shot, come super early. For these three dishes, it took 45 mins to get our order, which is an incredibly long time.

Peter D.

Yelp
The restaurant boasts a welcoming atmosphere, thanks to its friendly owner and attentive cashier. During my visit, I was delighted to discover that they hand-make their xiaolongbao, a traditional Chinese dumpling. This commitment to craftsmanship is truly commendable and contributes significantly to the overall dining experience. The food was not only authentic but also exceptionally delicious, leaving a lasting impression on my palate.

Yelp
Place is legit and closest reminder of home than any other place around town. Yes the dough on the soup dumplings is a little thick but there's def soup inside and the filling is very tasty. The zong zi (sticky glutinous rice with a filling) was probably the biggest surprise, 100% authentic and delicious with the fatty pork and egg inside. Shu Mai was great, the seasoned hard boiled eggs were good, the spongy gluten with woodear mushroom was spot on. The chicken cold dish and pan fried pork buns were probably the most lackluster things we had but really just overshadowed by how good everything else was. Very friendly service, they'll bring food out as it becomes ready if you're eating there. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
My wife and I met in China - I've discussed this before. What I can't discuss enough here, though, is how great Chinese street food is, especially shao mai. If you're about to "correct" me that it's "shu mai," get that shrimpy atrocity out of your mind, broseph. Shao mai and rou bao were a weekly Sunday brunch for me and my wife in downtown Nanchang. This nice old lady with a bicycle hauling steamer baskets sold these warm, and we were happy to find her each week near the Jiangxi Hotel. When we moved back to America, however, we could never find these. 13 years later, an Asian foodie group on Facebook came through for us with this joint in the Jusgo food court. All the restaurants looked and smelled like authentic Chinese food, but Chinese bbq, noodles, dishes, etc can be found here and there around the ATL. Shao mai could not, but there it was in all its pork fat glory! We also got the fish-flavored meat slivers noodle soup (we've never had it as a soup, and it was good!), pork soup dumplings, hong shao rou (braided pork belly), and zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). The lady running the counter was incredibly nice and gave great recommendations. Prices and serving sizes were more than fair, and we'll be going back many more times!

J F.

Yelp
Foods are over-cooked and taste bad. They can't be eaten and were thrown to the garbage. The lady in the front had very bad attitude. Waste money! Will never go again.
google avatar

Shekira M.

Yelp
The cashier was super sweet and helpful. She brought our food out to the table and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was so good. I had dumplings and a noodle plate and each was delicious. Make sure you know how to use chopsticks! 100% recommend.

We A.

Yelp
Actually I gonna give 0 star. Sooooooo disgusting!!!! Feces added to food. I've been throwing up all day. Will complain to Health Department Office. You never know, what is they would mix in..
google avatar

Yelp
Besides Trader Joe's pork dumplings, I would say this might be the Best dumplings in ATL. Must try but prepare for a long wait.

Yelp
This place is like a hidden gem! It's my go to place for soup and fried dumplings-- they are delicious and made fresh and from scratch in the back. I have brought my friends and they think the same and also enjoyed their other entrees as well.

Yelp
We were in the area and wanted to try something new from the food court. We decided to eat from here and ordered pork dumplings, crabmeat pork, and 2 orders of shanghai shaomai. Food was good but I thought it could use a little more salt to bring out a little flavor especially the pork dumplings and crabmeat pork. Service was great, got our order taken and the lady was nice enough to bring it to us while we were sitting 4 tables away in front of another vender. Not that they didnt have space nor they're tables were dirty. We also order from another vender and had our kids settle there already.

Robert D.

Yelp
Delicious hand made dumplings and other dim sum. Would come again!!! All of my dumplings were super hot and fresh.

Anne W.

Yelp
No other shop was open, so I had to go to this one. It tasted bad and the tableware was dirty. Never come back again. It's a waste of money.

Lucy L.

Yelp
The restaurant charges customers more than what they supposed to pay. There are many hidden fees involved if the customers don't pay attention to them. No matter the payment method, they charges credit card processing fees. Also they don't give customers correct changes. The food is also awful! Please don't waste time and money at this restaurant!!

Jennifer H.

Yelp
We liked the food very much , its a very delicious Shanghai style , everything we tried was very delicious

Marj M.

Yelp
Got there just before closing time. They were patient with our order and we had delicious soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings and some beef noodle soup. Love that it's right next to the market - eat then shop. Great location and tasty food. Highly recommend.
