LaoJie Hotpot Review - Sunset Park - New York - The Infatuation

"This Chinese hot pot restaurant has six different broths to complement your tofu skin, fuzhou fish balls, and watercress, including bases like tomato, bone cylinder soup, dark chicken ginseng, and one with mala spices. Perhaps most importantly: everyone gets a free milk tea pudding for dessert with their $23 AYCE hot pot meal. In addition to hot pot, it’s very important that you’re aware LaoJie has karaoke." - Hannah Albertine

Where to Eat in Sunset Park’s Chinatown | Eater NY

"As far as all-you-can-eat hot pot goes, LaoJie is a solid contender for quality and price, at $22.98. The usual hotpot fixings can be expected such as various cuts of meat, vegetables, fish, and tofu cakes, plus all the sauces to mix and dip. The spicy broth option is a favorite of those who err on the side of numbing spice, but the bone cylinder broth is also a worthy pick — giving a rounded flavor that doesn’t overpower the ingredients." - Pelin Keskin

We really enjoyed our visit to this BBQ place. The atmosphere was great, and the food was excellent — we especially liked the way the grilling was done right in front of us, which made the experience even more interesting. However, one thing we didn’t enjoy as much was being told there was a 2-hour limit for staying, and then being asked to leave, even though there were still plenty of free tables. That part felt a bit unnecessary and took away from the otherwise pleasant experience.

I visited for the first time and mentioned it to the staff, asking for some guidance on how to order. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive the warm or helpful welcome I was hoping for — I expected a bit more initiative from the team to assist first-time guests. We ordered our food: the broth was completely unsalted, which was disappointing. The meat was okay, and the shrimp were very tasty. Everything else was more or less as expected. Near the end of the meal, I was told that I could get sauces from a special station — but at that point, it was too late to enjoy them. When I asked to take the leftovers home, they told me it would cost extra, which felt unreasonable. Overall, I left feeling quite dissatisfied with the service and experience. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend it for first-time visitors.

Been coming here since they were charging $25 per person. Now it’s up to $32pp before tax and tips, which is still fair for the amount and quality of food IMO. Just be prepared to have your clothes reek of that flavorful hot pot smell after dining here. Luckily, they do give you a choice to throw your jackets in a giant bag to protect it from such odors. The food has been super consistent over the years- which is a testament to their quality I guess. You can also get both the hot pot and bbq option, but I don’t think it’s worth it bc there’s only so much you can eat. If you celebrate your birthday here within a 3 day window of your actual birthday and have a party of at least 4 people, then the birthday person gets to eat for free. Another great perk/feature is the points system if you plan on being a regular here. On slow days, I’ve stayed well past the allotted 2 hour timeframe, and they haven’t kicked us out. It can get super busy on weekends- especially those cold winter nights when everyone and their momma is craving hotpot, so better rsvp!

First time doing hot pot and this restaurant was recommended to me by someone special who knows their stuff. It was amazing.

Google
I had an amazing experience at this hot pot spot! From the moment we walked in, the staff was super welcoming and attentive. The ingredients were fresh, the broth was flavorful, and the selection was huge — meats, seafood, veggies, noodles, sauces — everything you could want. I especially appreciated the self-serve sauce bar, which let me customize everything to my taste. The ambiance was cozy but modern, and even during peak hours, service was quick and efficient. Prices were fair for the quality and portions. Whether you’re a hot pot regular or trying it for the first time, this place delivers. I’ll definitely be coming back with friends!

All you can eat optional Hot Pot and BBQ restaurant. I love the interior design, a lovely and childhood memories. I choose combo package of Hotpot and BBQ, enjoyed with my family and kids. Very lovely servers and condition is great. Cool and ordorless dinning. Will come visit my next trip at 18th ave.

Has a great theme or decor. 4 stars because parking can be a hassle, so definitely make a reservation. But it’s worth it. Fresh, all-you-can-eat goodness at affordable prices. Plus, the cozy vibe with karaoke in the background? Perfect for a fun night out. Bonus: they’ve got both hot pot and BBQ options.

We visited this restaurant with the concept of AYCE hot pot and BBQ grill, recommended by a friend. We tried the AYCE Hot Pot for $29.98 per person. The service overall was good; our server was attentive despite being quite busy attending to other tables, and the food arrived promptly. We were seated at the last table next to the station with plates and utensils. As servers frequently passed by to grab items, we requested a spoon from a lady with short hair, possibly in her 40s, who was a bit rude. She tossed the spoon onto the table with a noise that startled me while I was eating. There was no apology, just a casual delivery with an attitude like, 'Here is the spoon, and I don't care.' We observed that she did not smile throughout her service at other tables, and fortunately, she was not our assigned server. Later, we needed to ask another server, a man, for two more spoons. He did the same, placing them on the table with a similar noise. Unfortunately, we noticed that one of the spoons was dirty, leading us to wonder if they might need to improve their utensil handling practices. Since I have not ask my server for utensils, I'm not sure if she possesses the same skills. The Bone Cylinder Soup Base we ordered was excellent, and almost everything on the menu, especially the fatty beef, was delightful. However, the disappointment came from the shrimp and clams, which were not as fresh. I hope they can offer other kinds of desserts. Even when we are pretty full, there is always room for dessert. Our server suggested something like pudding, but I'm not quite sure. The taste was rated 2/5 Despite the minor service issues, we highly recommend trying this place for its delicious offerings.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night with a party of 6. Even though we made a reservation, we still had to wait 10 minutes for our table to be ready. For ~$38 per person for AYCE (after tip & tax), this is a really good deal. Despite the place being packed, they brought out everything we ordered fairly quickly. Our table was packed with food within 10 minutes of ordering. Also if you come within 3 days of your birthday with a minimum of 4 people, you get to eat for free!

Yelp
My friends and I ALWAYS dine here whenever we're craving hotpot. We usually come with a big group and get the private room if it is available. FYI, you need to spend a minimum of $288 to book the room. We came recently and everything is self order on an iPad now. While this is a nice change, it was very laggy and quite annoying. Ordering with the waiter would've been much quicker. The main reason why we come is for the milk tea pudding dessert at the end. We absolutely love that and it is so refreshing! I always get a cup or two to go. The food selection isn't bad for hotpot and it is always fresh. The spicy beef is one of my favorite to get! The sauce station is a disaster at times. I wish they paid more attention to that. The area can be a mess, sauces would be low/empty, different sauces going into other sauces and the bowls/handles can be dirty at times. Onto the staff. The waiters are SO nice! They are quick, efficient and polite. We never had any issue with the waitstaff. But my most recent dining experience, I encountered the girls at the cashier and they were so rude! There was a miscommunication with the bill and they were so rude about it. We were in a rush to leave so I didn't want to argue and ended up paying more than what I should have. That left such a bad impression after coming here for years. Just a tip, give the bill to your waiter instead and avoid the girls at the cashier.

Yelp
LaoJie is my spot for ayce hot pot, especially on a cold winter day. I always try to make a reservation since walk ins usually have a 30 minute wait. I came on New Year's Day, and the place was packed, but my 6 PM reservation saved me. This time, I got the bone broth, but the tomato broth is usually my favorite, very flavorful! The bone broth is more mild but still good. They switched to using iPads to order, and it's such a great update! I do wish they provided us wet wipes to clean the iPad as we don't know who touched the iPad last. You can order every 8-9 minutes, and the food comes out fast. It is way more convenient than waiting on a server to take your order. While you wait, you can mix your own sauce at the sauce bar. My go to is their specialty sauce with garlic, scallions, and a little chili oil. The ingredients are always fresh, and there's so much variety from veggies to meats to seafood. At the end of your meal, you get their milk pudding for dessert, which is so good, plus some gum or guava candy when you pay. The only downside this time was that the floor was wet and slippery since it was so busy, but the staff at this location is super nice, way friendlier than other LaoJie spots I've been to. Definitely worth checking out, and make sure you come hungry!

Yelp
AYCE done right! I'm so wary of AYCE hotpot because I get really frustrated when you order something and it either takes forever to come or doesn't come at all. I'm primarily here to up my protein intake haha so I want as much beef as I can get! This isn't a problem here as the dishes will come almost TOO fast. Just kidding but it's super cool to see the servers bring plates of food with their entire arms stacked high. Professionals! I visited with 6 people for my friends birthday on a super bustling Sunday night - the space is really big and bright and smoky from the hotpot and bbq, such good vibes. We were seated and each got our own soup/burner! I chose tomato soup base which is really good generally but got a little bit too sweet for me towards the end. I'll stick to the pork bone broth next time. Again everything came super fast - no complaints at all with the service. You order the broths first with your server and then everything else you add to a cart on an iPad (4 units max per dish). There's a lot of beef styles, the fatty beef and also leaner as well as tender cuts. I love the shrimp and fish paste, as well as as the fish roe fish balls and enoki mushroom. General rule of thumb is just to cook until it floats. The sauce station is well stocked - they also refill during busy moments. I was super happy with my experience here! For $38pp and free if you visit with 4 people on your birthday, it's an awesome place for AYCE!

Yelp
An absolutely solid choice for AYCE hotpot -- the price is reasonable in my opinion for the quality and variety they offer. From my experience, most AYCE hotpot places stick to basic, simple broths, but I was really impressed by the options here. The pots are individual, I opted for the Herbal soup base, and it was delicious -- flavorful and aromatic. They offer all the essential hotpot ingredients, with a fantastic variety of veggies, soy products, fish balls and more. The selection is truly unmatched, and they even have seafood like clams, which were massive. The interior and ambiance were great, and the service was excellent. The staff came around regularly to clear empty dishes and take our orders. A nice touch was the complimentary dessert -- a milk tea pudding (I think?). Overall, Laojie Hotpot provided a great AYCE hotpot experience, and I would definitely recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
Food: This has always been one of my top hot pot places in NYC! Food quality is high and they offer a variety of items. The broth and sauces did seem better years ago when they first opened, but overall I still like this place for hot pot. They have the typical hot pot items, but some unique ones are blue crabs, brown sugar rice cakes, pumpkin cakes, fried bread with condensed milk and handmade shrimp paste and fish paste. The selection of broths include pork bone, tomato, winter melon, herbal, and spicy. At the end of the meal, you get milk tea pudding as a dessert which is included in the meal. It's a two hour time limit, but they don't kick you out if the restaurant is not busy. Service: Service has always been excellent here. They come around to collect your empty dishes and also offer to change your plates. They refill your broth when they see your pot is getting empty. They are also very friendly and nice about taking your order and asking if you want anything else. Ambiance: The decor and ambiance is very nice here. Seating is very spacious and comfortable. They have small and large tables that accommodate any size group. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Came here for another friend's birthday and there has been a slight change You can now order on a tablet instead of flagging down a waiter. I believe there is a 4 minute cooldown in between orders. I always get the bone cylinder soup and it always hits the spot. I always get the fatty beef since that is a must! Vegetables and all other ingredients are always fresh. Sauce bar is great too. My favorite combo is peanut sauce, hoisin sauce, chili oil, and a lot of cilantro! The pudding milk tea at the end is always so refreshing and a perfect way to end a meal

Yelp
My first time visiting this place was the greatest experience. This place is top notch! The service is on an another level. They don't let you go without anything. Always keeping a close eye and very quick to respond. The tunes that they play is great. Very fun atmosphere. Love the welcoming decor to the entry way of the restaurant. I included pictures so others can see it really sets the vibe. Now to the great part, the food! The food is unmatched and delicious and very affordable. I had some tasty beef's tongue, crab, and mussels. I love how neat they keep the table for you while you eat. So many options and the dessert is unbelievable. This place creates great last memories for your taste buds and whomever you're sharing your meal with. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Street parking only. Ambiance is not bad. Staff is overall friendly. You could do hotpot and BBQ combo but you pay a few dollars more for that. We went for hotpot only because we wouldn't be able to eat much so we didn't want to waste money or food. Individual pot. A few choices for the soup bases. A lot on the menu but a lot of items seem to be similar. Some items on the menu are not included in the buffet style. Drink is not included in the buffet fee either. I wish they just include everything. Why bother to call it buffet when many items are not included... The fried bun is just ok. Not enough condense milk. The sauce bar is not bad. It has most popular sauces for hotpot.

Yelp
The decor is amazing, the food is delicious, and the service is excellent! We will be back for more cousins' get togethers!!

Yelp
The food was great and comforting but plates weren't cleared off our table even after our server came multiple times. Since our party was big (7 people) our table got crowded with dishes. I think the decor is great and I strongly recommend the shaved ice.

Yelp
My friends and I came here for my birthday on a Saturday. It was busy as expected so we had to wait a bit to get acknowledged and people were singing karaoke so it was loud but other than that, our experience was good here. Our waitress was quick and attentive and made sure there was always food on our table. The portions are generous and fresh. It was also one of my friend's first time doing hotpot. Her experience here made her want to come back. Being how busy it was in the restaurant, we were particularly rushed nor did it feel overwhelming in there. It's always busy on the weekends so it's recommended to reserve table or you'll be waiting for a while.

Yelp
I always enjoy coming here! The price point for AYCE and what's included & quality - it's definitely worth it. The staff here are all very attentive and friendly. The soup bases are good and the seating is good. I also enjoy the dessert they give you at the end. Overall, I've always had a good experience here and I would recommend coming!

Yelp
AYCE Hotpot $31.98 per person. SERVICE: People came to add more water to our soup and responded to our additional requests often. SOUP BASE: They have an interesting variety. I always get the herbal soup base whenever I go out for AYCE. Glad I tried the Dark chicken, Satay, Wolfberry soup base. My friend got the herbal soup base and there were mini pieces of garlic and maybe dried shallots? SAUCES: They had the sauces in the front. Tried their house special sauces but didn't really taste too special to me. MEATS: The fatty beef slices were good, your typical hotpot staple. The pork slices are OK. For other people who may not eat beef this could be an option. They also had lamb slices too and I wanted to try that but was afraid it might be gamy. Will give it a try next time haha SEAFOOD: I feel like they don't have much variety. My friend is FJ and they eat a lot of seafood and she mentioned that there wasn't as much. VEGGIES: They have your typical hotpot veggies. DESSERT: I like their milk tea pudding? Overall, a great hotpot place in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Came here for their BBQ for Valentine's Day and made a reservation early. Quite surprising that there wasn't a line though every table seemed to be occupied throughout the night. Not exactly a "romantic" place for a date but dinner is dinner. First time trying their BBQ selection and even though it isn't anything fancy it was quite delicious. The server cooked for us throughout the night so we didnt have to which was nice. Though I usually enjoy meats the vegetables kinda stole the show. Eggplants, mushrooms, and corn were our favorites. For meats, the house marinated beef was delicious though it might be a bit sweet for some. But the nice thing about AYCE is you can try a bit of everything and order more if you enjoy it.

Yelp
This service was amazing until the end...The food was amazing and the ambiance was really hitting. Until this one waiter with a stripped shirt came up to us with the bill. Don't get confused the price wasn't an issue. It was the rudeness about the tip we were going to give. It was a 120 bill and we didn't know we had to put the tip in this little box. So it seemed that we only gave 10$ tip. Then this stripped shirted guy came up to us asking if the service was bad. I said no, why is there an issue? Then he proceeded to say "Why only a 10$ tip"... I wanted to rip out the 10$ from his hands and shove it where the sun don't shine. I told him we weren't done and proceeded to give a 40$ tip because we were under pressure !! Watch out for this money laundering !!! Obviously he was so hungry for money instead of Korean bbq DONT COME HERE !!!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a really great experience, I love the all you can eat option and the different choice of protein you can choose just with the seafood selection alone. The staff was attentive and I got the birthday discount 10/10.
google avatar

Yelp
There are 2 floors and can fit group size of at least 10. They also have 2 private rooms for large groups. I've been here for their kbbq and hot pot. Your group must order the same - either one or the other or bothz For hot pot, everyone gets their individual pot with their choosing of soup base. I ordered the bone broth, which was good. We ordered the fish fillet, minced fish fillet, fish roe ball, corn, beef of all sorts, mini sausage, cabbage, watercress, etc etc. For kbbq, we ordered - special beef- tastes good, a bit sweet -honey beef- chewable, taste not as strong -beef cubes -steak- not very chewable -cheese corn- very creamy -cheese mussels- good if you like mussels -pineapple- sweetest pineapple ive had There is a server who helps you cook for the kbbq option. Their dessert here is really good. Parking is hard to find at night, but possible. Parking during the day is def possible.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my husband's birthday a few weeks ago. We made reservations for the family (7 of us + 1 baby). Brought an ice cream cake for them to store away. Our table was upstairs and we always have great amazing services here. Food quality/ingredients are always fresh and great. Recently, I really enjoy the Brown Sugar Rice Cake appetizer as the rice cake is grilled and coated in brown sugar. Yummmy! A nice sweet treat while eating hot pot.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall: 5/5 This is probably my favorite ayce hotpot spot. They have a great variety of hotpot ingredients. The meat is fresh and I love the desserts and sides they have. They also have the brown sugar rice cakes I love. Staff is super kind and attentive as well. Always a great time here! When you're done with your meal, they give you a milk tea pudding, which is super good! Wish they had that on the menu haha.

Yelp
Amazing food! came back again to do hotpot and try the grilled options, since I didn't get to the first time. Phenomenal as always. LaoJie is a joy love this place! Service was amazing and so was everything else. Highly recommend

Yelp
Good food, friendly staff, and great ambiance. This being my first time visiting, I was shocked by the quality of their food.
google avatar

Yelp
Went in around the afternoon time and it wasn't too busy (4pm ish). The vibe of the place is relaxing and I was able to easily converse with friends. The waiter was tentative to our meat and portioned everything out for us. They knew which cuts of meat we were eating and what they were cooking which was nice. They weren't tentative on refilling the water but that's okay because we had free drinks due to paying with cash. Would recommend and come back

Yelp
I'm always seeking out a good hot pot restaurant, and Lao Jie Hotpot did not disappoint. I was very impressed by the environment. Upon entering the restaurant, you knew something nostalgic, yet modern was coming. The decorations in the lobby bring you back to the 60s, but the loud music and large music video screen reminds you that you're in 2023. The food was very fresh, and the variety of offerings was adequate. However, I think there should be more meats besides fatty beef, fatty lamb, and fatty pork. Service was fantastic. They checked on us and topped off our hotpot with soup frequently. Overall, everything was fresh and delicious, and the mango pudding was the "cherry on top." I would gladly come back for more next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
As a returning customer this is one of my go to for AYCE Hotpot. They are not the best in soup base, they are not the best in sauce bar. They are not the best in variety, but they are very good at everything and one of the best all around. The freshness and quality of their food, the bone soup base or spicy mala. Can't beat the price and what you're getting. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Huai E.

Yelp
Had dinner at this place over a year ago and it was like your typical hotpot place. Everyone has their own pot with soup bases. I chose the herbal one which is my go too. They had a good selection of meats, mushrooms, seafood, and vegetables. Seafood was fresh and at the front of the restaurant lies different sauce concoction you can choose from. Service was quick to help clean up and refill your soup base. The only downside was that steaming smoke from everyone's hot pot tends to fill up everywhere. The vibes was chill but can get noisy. Prices were decent for what you get.
google avatar

Kelly N.

Yelp
The restaurant is pretty big with 2 floors for dining. It's a reasonably priced ayce hot pot. We all had our own broth and pot which I love. I had the tomato broth and it's good. All the ingredients were fresh and yummy. We ordered duck blood, tripe, fish, ramen, glass noodles, enoki, beef lamb, beef tongue, black fungus, taro, dumplings, fish balls with roe, lobster balls, quail eggs, rice cake and tong ho. Service was great. They kept stopping by to check on us.
google avatar

Sanni S.

Yelp
We went for hotpot only and enjoyed the wide variety of meats, vegetables and seafood. Everything tasted great and the ambience of the restaurant was nice with a traditional feel. Only 2 complaints; the first is that we wished service was a bit more attentive and the second is people should not be taking pictures right in front of the sauce bar. Pretty annoying. Other than that, for $32 AYCE hotpot it's pretty good. Oh we got complimentary mango shaved ice at the end of our meal. Nice touch! Note: if you pay with cash, you get free herbal drinks and soda

Yelp
I love this place. The food is delicious and consistently fresh. I've tried all of their meats and veggies and they're consistently good. Great variety of foods and it's all included instead of being tiered. I've come here with friends, family, or just my spouse and it's always great to be here. Service is fine, they sometimes don't give you everything you order (for ex. if you order quail eggs they sometimes "forget" to bring them b/c they're expensive) but its solid nonetheless. I recommend this spot.

Yelp
This location has karaoke on the second floor. The first floor is the usual hotpot or korean bbq buffet. My friend and I came here on a Friday evening around 9 pm. There was a short wait before we were seated. We both got the hotpot. We got the tomato and chicken soup base. There was quite an assortment of vegetables and meats to choose from. The servers bring you the foods raw and you cook them in the broth. We stayed for about 2 hours. They provided us with complimentary mango rose water dessert. My friend thought it was the best tasting item in the entire meal.

Yelp
Always a good time with the food here at Laojie. Good selection of food options and sauces. Always packed so if you have a big party, make sure you make reservations ahead of time.

Yelp
What a fun and enjoyable dining experience ! Yes you are technically cooking your own food but there is such a large selection of items to choose from, it's no wonder this restaurant is usually packed with people night after night We arrived earlier to avoid the crowds and around 5pm, the restaurant was about 50% full. We were seated right away and chose our broth. We had 3 rounds of food, each round a little smaller as our stomach got bigger... The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated, service was very good and there were too many options to list but I particularly enjoyed the fish paste and fish options in general...

Yelp
LaoJie is easily a new favorite hot pot spot --definitely recommend! I came here on a Thursday evening and it wasn't busy yet, but did fill up by the time we were leaving around 7pm. The waitresses kept trying to speak Mandarin to us though as we had a confused look everytime. Upon arrival, this spot takes you straight back to the olden times in China with their decor from the outside to the inside. It's beautifully done with such detail. Once seated, you opted for hot pot or KBBQ, but we chose the AYCE hot pot for $29.99 per person. They give you a menu of selections for broth, meats and vegetables. I opted for the tomato broth while my friend had the herbal broth. They do have some unique and traditional broth options here. Also liked that they had duck blood, fish roe balls, crab, and mussels, which were my favorite. Everything came out nicely presented on a platter and these adorable duck baskets too. There's also a self serve sauce bar and what I love is that they do not water down your sauces here at all. Plus, they have a house special sauce that's such a gem! I usually go for a sesame sauce, but this house special one is a new go-to. Everything was delicious and delivered with quality. As if it wasn't already a yummy meal, you end with a mango pudding rose milk tea dessert. Oh my god, this was so goddamn amazing! We even asked for seconds because it was so good. It's refreshing and perfect to end your meal. Such an amazing hot pot spot! From the quality of the food to the aesthetics of the space, this restaurant is spot on. Not gonna lie, my mouth smelled like garlic the rest of the day though since I had so much of their minced garlic in my sauce, but loved it anyways.

Yelp
I came here for my friend's birthday on a Sunday afternoon with a group of 5 people. The birthday deal is the birthday person has to show ID and come 3 days before or after birthday date with at least 4 people. It wasn't busy at 1pm so we could take our time. The AYCE hot pot price was $30 (not including tax and tip) which is not bad. There's a good selection of veggies, noodles, tofu, etc. The meat and seafood selection are limited though compared to other places. However, the AYCE hot pot includes appetizers (French fries, fried mantou bread with condensed milk) and dessert (mango pudding). I have to say this location has more spacious seating compared to the 8th Ave location. I would come back! FYI - you can get a free beer with Yelp check in but you have to do both AYCE hot pot and BBQ. We only were only doing hot pot so they gave us a free pitcher of Sapporo beer if we pay cash which was nice.

Yelp
$30 for AYCE hotpot and 5% cash discount! The ingredients is fresh and delicious. I personally like the herbal broth and spicy broth the most. The tea they offer is fragrant as well. Their pudding dessert always hits the spot. I definitely like this location more than the original 8 ave location as it's more spacious and ventilation is better.

Yelp
Came here on multiple occasions and requested a room instead of the main dining area. My favorite thing about Lao jie is their milk tea pudding dessert- can't help but yo say that first ha. Honestly the best dessert a hot pot place can serve- refreshingly good and you can order a cup to go ($6) which I normally would! Back to the hotpot- their broth is very flavorful and they offer a lot of items! One of my favorite things to order from them is the fish paste where you can control how much to put in your pot and how big the pieces should be! I like to order their giant clams as well although im not entirely sure how long they should cook for so I usually keep it in the pot for a longer time and it gets a little chewy. One thing to note though is if you come with a big party, check to make sure they're not overcharging you for things that you ordered but never came and had to ask multiple times for- the times I came, they'd charge for our drinks (the number of times we asked) but we would only get the drinks a handful of those times. Can be easily overlooked but just make sure to keep track! Overall, very good hotpot place with LOTS of people especially on Fridays and the weekends.

Yelp
This time we enjoyed their bbq. Meat quality is good. But limited options. It would be nice if they add lamb. Service was fast and attentive. Causal and fun dining experience for Friday night dinner. Love it.

Yelp
I had been to the 8th Ave location before but this is my first time visiting their bensonhurst spot. It's two floors which make it quite spacious but there's only a sauce bar on the first floor. I highly recommend reservations. I didn't have one and they told me it was going to be a 90 min-2 hour wait so I said fine. They actually called me in 30 min and asked if I could leave by a certain time and that was absolutely fine with me. Here are the basics. It's an AYCE hot pot place with a 2 hour time limit. It was $29 with the option to add in bbq for an additional fee. They were quick to deliver all the food we ordered and had no problem taking more of our order. The quality was good and as expected. They even had seafood such as clams and mussels included in the price. We were stuffed by the end but I do have to admit, I have never smelled this badly before after hot pot. The odor really gets into all your clothes and hair. I wish ventilation was better as the tables are relatively close to each other so all the other tables smoke is blowing your way too.

Yelp
Friend brought us out here since he loved this place so much and I heard many great things as well. For the price of AYCE hotpot - it is pretty good. The quality of the meats is good and they have crab!! Wow, that impressed me since it was included in our meal. My favorite would have to be their shrimp paste so make sure you get that for the table. I ordered the dark chicken soup base and unfortunately, I was not too impressed. If we ever decide to come back to this area, maybe I'll try a different soup base. I had higher hopes for the chicken soup. A friend had the mala and she seemed to like that a lot - said you didn't have to have dipping sauce. Price: $30 +tax and tip Kids under 4: FREE (that is such a great way of targeting your families with kids) Tip: def use their bags for your jackets. You will come out smelling of hotpot I also enjoyed their green tea pudding dessert at the end. Great touch. My only complaint was that we were sorta rushed out towards the end because they booked a large party immediately right after us.

Yelp
Delicious hot pot within the neighborhood! Excellent service- we came when it first opened so the staff were all very attentive and friendly. We all ordered the ayce hot pot. Entire party has to choose the same (either ayce hot pot or/and bbq). There was a large variety of food items (vegs, meat, seafood, etc). The foods were very fresh and abundant. There was about 7 diff hot pot broths to choose from. We all chose their most recommended bone broth one & herbal one. I chose the herbal one and it was too herbal for me. I would choose the bone broth one next time. They also had a large variety of sauces on the side! When you are done with your meal, they give you a small bowl of delicious mango pudding. It tasted like jasmine tea was mixed with the mango. I liked it a lot but my 2 friends said it was ok. Highly recommended! I will be back!

Yelp
My favorite hot pot spot ever! The urge I have to come here once a week is real. Usually I'm not a fan of AYCE, due to the quality of ingredients typically going down, but the food at Laojie is pretty solid. We get the crab and it's usually on point, although there was one time when the crab wasn't really good. I really enjoy the sauce bar, but I hope they can add more to it, such as crushed peanuts and sesame seeds. I also love the tomato broth. Warning: anything you dip into it will completely absorb the tomato flavor lol

Yelp
The day of the exam is the day of indulgence. After shopping in Flashing, I went back to Brooklyn for dinner. Take three back to the "old street" for dinner Wonderful!

Yelp
This place was awesome and you should call ahead of time to make a res since they will get busy. This is the newer store of Laojie and rumor has it that they focus all their energy on this store now. I am going to say this is my fav hot pot place but I did feel a little greasy and uncomfortable after I left. For broth, I thought the pork bone broth was excellent, I wasn't a fan of the medicinal one. In terms of the price, I thought it was excellent, it was $28 for unlimited hot pot, with drink tax and tip it came out to $40 per. AMAZING!!! The food: Blue Crab- Excellent, it was a good quality crab with nice amount of head fat. I thought the flavor and texture of the crab was great. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=HaOepAPffu7wRTjca0ArpA&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Shrimp- Quality of their shrimp was excellent. Highly recommend both shrimp and crab. Fish- Good fresh fish, this was a nice fish for hot pot. Fatty Beef- It was OK, not a bad beef for hot pot. Beef Tongue- I come to realize I only really like beef tongue in tacos and Jewish delis, the beef tongue here was just ok for me. Beef Ball with Tendon- I enjoyed these but wish the tendon was a bit more tender. Spam- Do it! So good with hot pot! Tofu Sheets- Not sure what they are called on the menu but they are the yellow dried tofu sheets you cook for like 3 seconds were awesome too. Fatty Lamb- This was Ok, the meat was tender but not the best quality. Fish Ball with Roe- Not my fav fish ball with roe, the dough was too thick and the filling could have had better flavor. Fuzhou Fish Ball- These were so so. Milk Tea Pudding- This is the dessert and it was a nice item to finish the meal with, it was light and refreshing.

Yelp
I would recommend to come here if you're looking for a place to have hotpot with friends or family. For an AYCE hot pot place I would definitely say their prices are good especially for the fact that their menu has a variety of options to choose from. The location is a nice spot too! Not too crowded inside but, might always be better to make a reservation just in case. Me and my friends enjoyed our meal here and had a lot of fun. Just in another note it would be better if the music from the speakers weren't so loud because having conversations without shouting was difficult. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
We came here during the heatwave and I thought who does hot pot when it's 90+ degrees outside but surprisingly enough, the place was filled. The restaurant was nice and spacious and the air conditioner makes eating hot pot during this heat tolerable! While the service wasn't the greatest (e.g., they don't always bring out everything you order, but I think most of these AYCE hot pots are like that), this place definitely does the job when you're craving hot pot. The sauce bar is nice and clean and the drinks were cheap! Come hungry and drink lots of water. We didn't get to try the kbbq, but will definitely try it out the next time!

Yelp
A freezing January evening is the perfect night for all-you-can-eat hot pot! What makes it a much more sweeter deal is coming on my birthday weekend for a free meal! I was already a BIG fan and regular of their original restaurant on 8th Avenue so I was pretty excited to visit this new location with my friends! Customer service here was exceptional and excellent! First, you start off by ordering your hot pot broths - I highly recommend the Bone Broth (my favorite), if you are doing the individual small pots. If you choose to have a large pot, do the Bone Broth and Spicy Broth combination. There is a huge variety of different vegetables, seafood, meats, tofu, and noodles on the menu. My favorites are all the variety of tofu - frozen, tofu skins, and fried roll tofu, shrimp, crab, fish fillets, pork belly, beef, chrysanthemum leaves, fish ball with roe, etc. The meat quality here is impeccable compared to other AYCE hot pot restaurants I have been to! All the ingredients came with generous amounts that comes out quickly and accurately. The sauce station is also pretty amazing, all the condiments that you can think of and their signature Lao Jie sauce is really good! Leave room for dessert! I always look forward to the dessert at the end, I love their house egg pudding with milk tea. It's light and not too sweet, which is the ultimate Asian compliment! :) Drinks menu is also pretty awesome. They have typical hot pot drinks like the Wong Lo Kat herbal tea in a can, fresh juices (I love the watermelon one in the summer), and their delicious house made fruit teas in Special Drinks section (last page of the menu) - I had their Supreme Fruit Tea and Grapefruit Green Tea and both were really good! Another highlight is customer service, they give you clear bags to put all your stuff in there to avoid it absorbing the hot pot restaurant smell. As a girl with long hair, they offered us hair ties, if we forget. Also, they give us aprons because splashes do happen during hot pot! A reservation or calling ahead is highly recommended. This restaurant gets very full especially on weekends. What are you waiting for? Book your reservation now! For free birthday meal, make sure you bring an ID and have at least 4 people in the party. Always call ahead and ask about the birthday policy - if you are required to bring a cake or not and what is the window to come for the free birthday meal - right now, it is the actual birthday, the day before, and the day after is acceptable. Subject to change, so always check. :)

Yelp
I have been to both LaoJies and This location is far better. It's bigger , more seating, and less loud music in your face, feels cleaner. We were a big party of 12 people and so we rented the private rooms where you can eat and karaoke for 2 hours. Just need to meet the minimum which with a party of 10 and doing hot pot , you'll meet it. The nice thing is they count drinks as part of the minimum. The servers were very attentive and came by often into the room. We also brought a birthday cake and they did not charge any cake fee. There are two private rooms upstairs. This is going to be our go to LaoJie going forward.

Yelp
A Brooklyn AYCE hotpot staple that's worth it for its price point of $25 pp. Made reservations 2 weeks in advance for a party of 8, and we were seated promptly upon arrival. LaoJie has a good variety of broths, so I decided on the herbal because that's my usual go to at other restaurants. A few notes - the herbal soup broth would be the only reason I have to take off a star here. While I usually enjoy herbal soups, the herb mix used here was quite unpleasant and way too potent. It left the soup overly bitter (not the good herbal taste, but more like straightup medicinal bitter tea). I fished out the herbs and let the soup boil down so that the refills would dilute out the taste, because it was quite unpleasant for half the dining experience. Dunking the food in sauce didn't cover up the excessive bitterness either. Probably would err on the safe side and get pork bone broth next time. Other than that, the food selections here are better than most other AYCE places in Queens now. They offer both meats and seafood, along with veggies and starches. Service was great - super attentive waitresses! They refilled our broth multiple times and took our orders as soon as started to run low on food. Sauce bar is good as well. Towards the end of the meal, theres a complimentary mango pudding for each person. It's yummy and helps cool down your mouth.
