Lao Jiu Men Review - Chinatown - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Lao Jiu Men has a fairly short ingredient menu, charges for dipping sauce, and has a two-broth maximum. But this place is great because (unlike some other spots where we're usually greeted with a two-hour wait) we’re seated here immediately. Their dining room is sleek and decorated with carved wooden dividers, paper lanterns, and scroll artwork. The broths are flavorful, with classics like spicy Szechwan and less common options like fish maw with shredded chicken. And while they don’t have premium cuts like wagyu or kobe, the meat, seafood, and vegetables are still good quality. Plus, they also have an AYCE option—just make sure to be conscious of the 15% leftover charge." - John Ringor

Chicago’s best Chinese hot pot restaurants | Eater Chicago

"Stylish and decorated with modern Chinese accents, Laojiumen is a hot pot newcomer that’s worthy of attention. In addition to the standard meats, seafood, and veggies, the menu also boasts a variety of tofu, meat/seafood balls, and noodles. And there’s all-you-can-eat for $24.88 per person." - Jeffy Mai

The service was really good! The staff were awesome with refilling the broth when it got low. The location was beautiful very photogenic. The food was also amazing! I loved the crispy pork it was a little spicy but really good. The ingredients tasted fresh. And a big sauce area!! I also loved the desserts and ice cream at the end :))

Fantastic experience! We were a group of 10 and we were seated in a semi-private corner room. Service checked in on us regularly to top up our soup broth choices. Soup was amazing with ingredients we hand selected from the buffet area. Great selection of items and things were fresh. Amazing way to try new things. Decor is beautiful and has very authentic feels. We will definitely be back.

I recently dined at an incredible hot pot restaurant, and it completely exceeded my expectations! The ambiance was inviting, blending modern decor with a cozy atmosphere. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. The variety of fresh ingredients was impressive – from tender cuts of meat to crisp, vibrant vegetables. The broth was aromatic and bursting with flavor, making each bite a delight. The interactive aspect of cooking your meal at the table made it even more enjoyable. The dipping sauces were the cherry on top, adding a personalized touch to every bite. If you’re looking for a fun, flavorful, and unforgettable dining experience, I highly recommend checking this place out!

Beautiful decor and nice atmosphere. Fresh meats and ingredients. Friendly service. Amazing selection of food. Parking is not convenient as it’s located above the restaurant and you have to take the elevator or stairs.

Decent hot pot option. They recently changed the way you order food: previously you can use the app to order everything. Now, you use the app to order the soup base and the meat. The have the buffet area for customers to self select what they want - which is pretty interesting. They have good variety of food, and I like their fish ball with cheese.

Giving a 5 star rating on the excellent services. Staffs are well trained and polite. Willing to help customers and flexible to handle things. Food is great and fresh. Lots of hotpot and cooked food choices. Drinks and dessert are good too. Free parking in the building!

Great AYCE hotpot restaurant with beautiful design and lots of food selection. Canned coke, diet coke and ginger ale is unlimited. Self serve sauce station with some apps, desserts and fruits as well. They have some unique items rare to most AYCE menus around like frog legs, beef fat rolls, shrimp paste stuffed mushrooms, giant deep fried chicken wings.

I was excited to try Hot Pot 9 with my friends and our kids. The interior and ambiance were stunning, and they currently offer a great deal: $30 per person on weekdays and $32 on weekends and holidays. They also have a fair policy of charging 60% for kids aged 12 and under, and our 5-year-old ate for free, which was fantastic for parents! There were 9 of us, with several kids, and we were welcomed with two soup bases of our choice—tomato and spicy broth. The menu was accessible via a QR code on our phones, offering a wide selection. However, it was confusing as every order remained in a pending status, and we could all add items at the same time, making it difficult to confirm if our selections were processed. Initially, the food came promptly, but as we neared the last half-hour of our two-hour seating, my pumpkin dessert, popsicles, and pork belly never arrived. We placed these orders when they announced last call and handed us the bill, subtly signaling the end of our meal. After following up, we finally received the pork belly, but the popsicles never came. We weren’t notified of any cancellation or given a reason. Additionally, the lack of air conditioning made the experience uncomfortable, as we were all sweating and losing our appetite. The service slowed down toward the end, and we felt rushed, unable to fully enjoy the last part of our meal. While the food and setup were impressive, the poor service and treatment were disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless there's a change in management.
