Where Can I Wear Opera Gloves & Eat Steak-Frites? - Paris - The Infatuation

"It’s easy to get lost in Lapérouse’s labyrinthine corridors and hidden salons, which is probably why it was a go-to for filandrous 19th-century writers like Victor Hugo and Émile Zola. Their portraits still line the walls of the endless staircases leading you to the dining rooms, with astounding views of the Seine and the Louvre. The ghosts of former regulars must balk at the modern prices, which are probably why you’ll mostly hear Russian or English at neighboring tables. Ignore the siren call of truffle and caviar, however, and you’ll be surprised by simple yet delicious food, like an exquisite chateaubriand steak au poivre with crispy golden frites. The namesake cake is a multi-layered marvel of vanilla-scented cake and cream that even the pickiest diner will enjoy. Live piano music playing in the background may have you forgetting the wallet-lightening effects of both food and wine." - emily monaco

The 8 Best Places to Drink Wine in Paris, According to a Top Sommelier | Bon Appétit

"A storied 6th‑arrondissement institution whose dimly lit salons recall literary and musical history and once hosted private illicit dinners; its cellar is equally notable, offering both extravagant bottles that can total thousands and relative steals on the fringes of Burgundy (Mâconnais), Trousseau from the Jura, and Bandol rouge from the south, making it a destination for both atmosphere and deep, varied wine lists." - ByVictoria James

Google
Lapérouse Paris is truly a unique gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re struck by the incredible interior that instantly transports you—almost as if you’ve stepped back into the age of Hemingway. Every detail feels rich with history and charm, creating an atmosphere that’s both inspiring and deeply inviting. The food is absolutely delicious, each dish crafted with care and full of flavor. The service is impeccable as well—attentive, warm, and perfectly in tune with the restaurant’s refined character. One of the standout features is the collection of separate private rooms. They’re not only beautiful but also incredibly cozy, adding to the restaurant’s distinctive and intimate feel. It’s the kind of place where you can savor a meal slowly, enjoy great company, and feel completely at ease. Lapérouse is more than a restaurant—it’s an experience. Highly recommended.

My family and I went to Laperouse for dinner a few months ago, and it was one of the most outstanding dinners of my life. First, the service was incredibly nice, and they brought the food out at the same time as everybody else. The atmosphere was very different from other restaurants I had been to, but in a good way! It was very romantic with dim lighting, well-decorated napkins, tablecloths, and curtains. For being such an old mansion, the restaurant did an amazing job decorating the room. They also had a lot of velvet, which helped the restaurant feel more historic, along with their antique furniture. Also, they had live music, making the dining room feel lively and energetic. The meals were also amazing! They had something for everyone, and my mom, who is a picky vegetarian, loved her food. She had a salad, and so did my dad. For the entrée, my brother and I both had steak, and the sauce was so tasty! It really made the steak an 11/10! I also thought the mocktails were amazing. Laperouse is definitely a kid-friendly and date-worthy restaurant worth visiting!

Happened to make a reservation 30 minutes before. (We booked an early dinner at 7:30 on a Tuesday) if you want a later dinner I recommend booking more in advanced. Anyways I didn’t realized how popular this place is for celebrities. It’s iconic inside the interior decor is immaculate. Perfect for cute aesthetic outfit pics so dress accordingly. The dinner was a vibe and absolutely delicious. The staff is incredible and very intentional. I had the ketal popcorn popstar martini it was decident but delish. For dinner I had the caviar pasta. It was a smash. I highly recommend it for your dinner. Definitely a fun place to take people to from out of town

Google
A memorable and unique experience! Beautiful service to the private dining room, it felt very special and personalised. We enjoyed a selection of starters mains and deserts. All of which were delicious - and many gluten free options too. Not only were they presented and tasted excellent, but much of the food service is done at the table which adds to the experience. The snails and the scallops were particularly good. The server was also kind enough to provide gluten free bread for me. The experience is worth the cost for fine private dining in a very luxurious and unique environment.

Google
We came with great expectations! 4 hostess greated us and took us to the upper floor table. The service was perfect. The wine list os vast BUT the prices are outrageous!!! Not normal! Wines that costs 300eur a bottle in other restaurants were priced 1300eur Mouton Rothschild from an ok vintage goes for 3500eur?!?! We ended up ordering a chateaux de bucastel 2004 for 500eur!!! Outrageous! The food generally was very good The beef Wellington was tasteless and you shouldn't order it although it is one of the "classic" dishes there. The piano and singer was a very nice touch and added to the very good vibe. The bar after dinner was very nice and again the service at the bat was perfect regardless of the fact that the place was packed.

Google
Unique experience in several ways. I only have one opinion: That the staff downstairs wasn't as serviceminded as the one's upstairs. I wanna make it clear that they were not rude just different in the service. +Service +High quality food +Impressive wine menu +atmosphere

Google
Had a lovely time, very snug little restaurant with a lovely atmosphere had dinner here. Service was good as was the food. Cute little spot would definitely return. Meanwhile hostesses downstairs could be a little warmer.

Yelp
Another steak and frites adventure for myself but make it fancy (even the bathroom). Came here after a long day of walking around at the Louvre. Probably the best fries I had during my steak frites adventure. The peppercorn sauce that was used for the steak was probably 2nd behind Le Bon Georges. If you get escargot, get a small toothpick fork to help pry out the snails. Neat trick the waiter taught us! Highly recommend a reservation if you can, particularly during the dinner time and weekends.

Yelp
It's interesting because while it clearly states you only have 2 hours, our dinner took nearly 4 and that had everything to do with us waiting for our dessert for 40 min and then the check for an hour (and we had to ask 3 different people) We did dine with a table of celebrators, and an influencer in the same room (we were here during the tail end of fashion week) no I will not say their names. They are people too. It was. It odd or out of place and nor did they look uncomfortable in a dining room full of normal people (no no one went up to them) At The table next to us was an American couple who struck up conversation and was so kind, then a pair of women both dripping in Cartier (one wearing well over $300k in Cartier alone). All this to say this restaurant serves a wide range of people comfortably and treated everyone the same way. We are here on the first night of our Paris leg and I was clearly getting sick so our server saw this (it was not doing well LOL) actually offered to make his family's "health tea" for me. Which was incredibly kind of him. He made two posts and it legitimately helped me feel better while I was there. I ordered two pots and got the recipe (it was also incredibly delicious so I will be making this at home when feeling sick in future) I am writing this 3 weeks after dining here, and I have to say aside from his kindness, our food was forgettable (I remember it was plated beautifully, but i don't remember remotely what we ordered). Not bad, I just truly cannot remember it. I think most people come here for the lush atmosphere that feels very old world and luxurious. There is a lot of storied history. I also seem to remember seeing something about it turning into more of a party/ club atmosphere on certain nights (that's entirely from TikTok though s I would go there for more info - that is not my scene) It's a great option if you want to dress up for a romantic evening. Our night was a bit marred by the aforementioned 40 min wait for dessert and then additional hour for the check - we were exhausted and I was feeling so sick. I know long relaxing dinners are part of French culture but we did ask for the check 3 times so clearly we wanted to get out of these and get to bed. All in all, I would come back for the romance, and atmosphere alone but not especially for the food. It is definitely going to be added to my list of must do's when in Paris and will be adding it to my recommendation list!

Yelp
Ehhhhh... a sumptuous bit of decor but loud music blasting in the middle of dinner? Where's the romance? Not a fan...

Yelp
First opened in 1766 as La Maison Lapérouse, this distinguished restaurant and bar situated smack on the banks of the Seine is a favorite spot for well-heeled literary and artistic types. It's the sort of place where you can spend an evening chasing the ghosts of patrons such as Victor Hugo and Gustave Flaubert, who frequented the place to write, loaf and meet with artistic comrades. Upstairs, intimate private booths create a "boudoir" vibe. Couples or small groups of friends dine on red-velvet divans bathed in candlelight. Some booths have views of the street or the river. There's an old-world allure to the place that certainly warrants an evening here, if only for an (admittedly pricey) before-dinner drink. The service was phenomenal but the food was subpar. Especially if you're interested in literary history, or simply want to soak in an ambiance you'd have a hard time finding elsewhere, reserving a couple of hours for this historic spot is something I recommend.

Yelp
Only twice have I felt like I was in a wonderful dream when dining out. This is one of those experiences. We started our visit with drinks at the bar: a gorgeous, comfortable, opulent space. The bartender was very attentive and gracious, and he arranged to have our drinks transferred to our lovely table in the dining room upstairs. We loved the French music playlist so much that we attempted to recreate it on Spotify at home! (Yes - we used Shazam to identify some songs; don't tell anyone!) We had requested a private dining room, but then discovered that there was a 50 euro charge per person for the room, so we declined it and had dinner in the main dining room. The dining room is as beautiful as it is luxurious, with a view of the Seine. We ordered the Duck Foie Gras as a starter, and shared the wonderful Beef Wellington (which was served in May 1940 to Sir Winston Churchill) for dinner. The Wellington was doused with a delicious red wine sauce, and accompanied by a fresh green salad. It is still as good 83 years later as I'm sure it was then - perhaps even better. We paired our meal with a nice bottle of French red wine. A talented pianist played and sang retro hits from American artists, like the Eagles (Hotel California), some Carole King, some Fleetwood Mac, and many others - and we loved it!!! So much fun! The restaurant appears to cater to well-heeled American tourists. Service was gracious and attentive, with waiters constantly checking on us, filling our water glasses, topping off our wine, and clearing dirty plates. The sommelier was very nice and chill - not pushy at all. The restaurant's wine list is the size of a phone book. When we requested the check, another staff member came to our table, and requested an additional tip, which we were not expecting, but we complied. They deserved every euro of it. This is an expensive, decadent, unforgettable restaurant. When visiting Paris, everyone should visit a fine dining restaurant like this at least once during their stay. Paris rivals, and in many cases exceeds, the fine dining experiences we've had in the United States.

Yelp
What a great experience and loved every minute of it. Samantha was so accommodating because we had to cancel our original reservations because France was playing in the World Cup Semi-Finals. We were able to book another one for an early dinner. We were the first group to arrive at 7:30 and it felt like we had the whole restaurant for ourselves. So much history and the ambiance was really cool. Our waiter was so helpful and answered all of our questions. Even the doorman was a great photographer and took and excellent picture of us. We were celebrating our 10th year anniversary in Paris and it was our last night so it made the trip even better. Ambiance 10/10 Service 10/10 Food 9/10 Bathrooms 10/10 Cleanliness 10/10 Value 9/10 Will I Return? Oui Oui

Yelp
Lampérouse is an upscale dinner place in Paris, France, and if was delicious. It featured great service and a nice high end ambiance. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, we sat indoors. Both are great options, so make your choice based on the weather. The service was friendly and efficient. Places like this in Paris all have slower service than places in America, but that is part of the dining experience. The food was great. We got their steak and it was really delicious. It was a Chateaubriand steak with pepper sauce and french fries. It was not the best I've had but it was still really good. With all steaks in Paris I recommend a medium rare to rare cook as the quality of the meat is supreme. It would be a waste to get the meat cooked closer to well done. The dessert is amazing, I would recommend getting the raspberry tart. It's one of the best raspberry tarts I've ever had. I would suggest getting dinner at Lampérouse. I would also recommend getting a reservation in advance just to be safe. Great food, great upscale vibe. And well priced for what it is! Check out the menu in the pictures I've provided.

Yelp
They let me know that i needed to leave the table and was only 1 hour into my dinner, who eats in 1 hour. Mashed potatoes needed seasoning. Literally just came for the soufflé and was told it was "sold out" when another table ordered it about 5 mins prior. Likely was told no, as the need d the table in 1 hour which is insane. Would definitely NOT come back and not recommend. House wine is horrible/ merde.

Yelp
Stunning Parisian restaurant - recently renovated but retains all of the history and decadence. Numerous private rooms for 2 - 30 and lovely bar/lounge.

Yelp
We had an amazing time here. The history alone is mind blowing and humbling. We had the surprise lunch and we loved everything we had. Flavorful, unique, and surprising. The service was great and we were surprised by dining in a solo room- which you normally need to pay extra for. I suggest if you come here- pay more for the private room- it is truly a one of a kind experience.

Kim B.

Yelp
Honestly we were really disappointed. We came here Saturday of fashion week and expected quite a scene but it was literally dead. There wasn't a single person in the bar, most of the tables never filled up - perhaps everyone was in the private rooms? But still it felt deserted. The food was OK but not great-especially for the price. The new renovations weren't anything to write home about - in fact It kind of looked like an old place that needed to be renovated. Also one thing I thought was irritating was they asked if I wanted a glass of champagne for my birthday when I Came in. Of course I said yes but when I got the bill they charged me $75 for one glass! Seems like a sneaky thing to do for a high-class establishment. The concierge at the Ritz recommended this place but We were rather disappointed and I think it's living on its old reputation. Save your money
