L'Apibo

"In his small bistro in the Montorgueil neighbourhood (hushed atmosphere, oak floorboards, exposed stone), Antony Boucher, a chef with a strong track record, creates beautifully original and delicate cuisine that fêtes ingredients. He is renowned for his two classics: filet of sea bass, black rice and paprika sauce and the eight-hour confit pork with sweet potato mousseline. The laid-back (and very professional) service evokes the rough and ready spirit that used to characterise Les Halles." - Michelin Inspector

What a great find! This charming restaurant was right around the corner from us and we happened to come across it, to our delight. The food was a singular experience. The four of us all had different appetizers and mains and all of us were very pleased. Between the duck, sea bass, pork and veal there was nothing but praise around the table. Additionally, the chocolate soufflé was possibly the best any of us had ever had. It was unreal how perfect it was- such a treat. One other notable point about the food is its gorgeous presentation. The plating itself was artful. Service was efficient and our main server was a lot of fun, very sassy (in a playful way). The wine list was nicely curated with a selection of approachable wines from across France. For the price, L'Apibo is a gem we will definitely visit again.

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT. we were a party of four and ordered 4 starter and 5 main course ( 5th one because the person did not understand that we wanted veggies on the side and he got a veggie dish instead) The food tasted OK nothing special. All 4 of us have food poisoning and are very sick.

Had a wonderful meal here last night. Service was welcoming (even with our rusty French - we were visiting from Canada). Had the main and dessert prix fixe. Among us we had the catch of the day (sea bass), roasted duck and the pork confit. All tasty and fresh and the perfect portion size (we prefer smaller portion sizes). Finished with chocolate soufflé, chocolate mousse and the lemon mousse for dessert. Place is cozy and looks to be mostly locals. Would highly recommend!

Google
We had three-course dinner, the food was superb and price was reasonable, I think the service was good with touch of French humor 😊. Though the restaurant is located at a small street, but good restaurant always attracts people to come.

Google
Yes, the tables are spaced so close together you can speak to your neighbour but the service and food and atmosphere was brilliant. We enjoyed the pressed chicken and prawn starter, beef cheek and pork main, fondant and lemon puddings and cheese course plus dessert wine and coffee. We met an English couple and Lithuanian couple and shared other restaurant recommendations. A brilliant evening, merci beacoup to the kitchen, chef and front of house team.

Google
My second time here, and I really enjoy this restaurant for more than 1 reasons. First of all, the food is well curated, the menu has a gastronomic concept where you expect nothing less than a great plate. I started with eggs filled with crabs and then for the main course beef with shallot sauce, mushrooms and potatoes pure. The fish plate was same delicious and very colourful as well. This is one of the gastronomic restaurants that have the better relation between price and value/taste. The place was fully booked and when you see the dinning room like this, it makes the experience even better. The last thing to congratulate is the server, which is serving to 40 people in the same time and he is always on top of this game: energic, funny and super responsive.

Google
Absolutely amazing! It is easily my top 3 restaurants in terms of food, and if we think about value -the price for the quality of food that you get- it has to be my number ONE. The service was very fast and folksy, the rose wine was fabulous, and the food was Michelin star quality. The souffle was out of this world! If you are in Paris it is a must.

Outstanding French cuisine. The food was top notch and presentation was delightful. For appetizers I had the mackerel, crab ravioli, and scallop. The mackerel was smoked and came with vegi, herbs, and very tasty complementing cream sauce. We ordered their Sea Bass, pork (roasted since 8 AM), and Pigeon (not on the menu). Each one is unique and exceptional in taste. The waiting staff spoke fluent English and were very friendly. The restaurant is small and fills up quickly. Highly recommend making reservation from their website. It is very easy.

Yelp
Les PASTELS: Intimate bistro makes perfect backdrop for beautiful and tasty contemporary French dishes. The menu is 1 page and changes from time to time. The prix fixe menu isn't bad if you'd like to try an entrée, plat and dessert. Les COULEURS: What I admire about Chef Anthony is his way of presenting unique flavors to his guests. The restaurant itself is painted with pastel earth tones, like a reflection of the neighborhoods in Paris. The minimalist style lends itself to the feature presentation: the food. With each plate, the Chef lets the ingredients speak for themselves without killing you with too much decoration or style. He steams his vegetables rather than cooking them in stock so you can enjoy their natural flavors. For lunch I ordered the 63° egg with blanched asparagus and sausage, which turns out to be my favorite dish by far! The yolk and the egg white had similar consistencies, jiggly with a runny core. The dish was lightly seasoned and the flavors peak when you have a bite with all the elements in it: asparagus, cheese, sausage, which all get enveloped by the egg. I used the bread to sponge of whatever morsels were left. It was too good to let go to waste! Next came the hake fish with razor clams. The fish was fresh, delicate and smooth. The razor clams tasted like the sea, good flavor, but had some grains of sand in each bite. I would've been fine with just eating four or five of these clams, but eight or nine was more than enough. The dish was straight protein, which made me reach for the bread basket. The best part was the sauce, which the Chef made from cooking the razor clams in butter, onions, and herbs. The prices are reasonable for this unique dining experience and the portions are just right. I leave the table with my tastebuds and hunger satiated. Best to make a reservation ahead of time.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Starter: brie with potatoe. Not my favorite. The combo of brie and potatoe seem kinda weird. Main: sea bass. Well cooked with some flavorful black rice. Dessert: plum with mousse. The best item of the night. Perfect sweetness and sourness of the plum.

Yelp
This is French Cuisine, not just french food. Creative, delicious, and filling with attentive service, a good wine list, and a comfortable setting. Modern and extremely high quality, it is worth the reasonable price. I'll be back...

Yelp
Had an amazing dinner here our last night in Paris. The waiter was so incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. Definitely order "The chocolate" dessert.

Yelp
restaurant service is really commendable. It was a young French lady who was very unassuming and was reasonably attentive to us. Always with a smile when she approaches us at the table of 5 of us. We tried out the menu a la carte - since the menu formule midi didnt allow for too much choice - it was maigret canard that day for the main course/plat. The rest of us tried Le Bar, beef fillet. The portions were not that big but the quality was not that bad. The fish wasn't that great to me but the presentation was commendable - lovely mix of colours. I also like the platters they used instead of the 'country-style platters most restaurants in Paris have (yuck). Dessert, i tried the cafe gourmande - the panna cotta was the BEST! the citron biscuit was all right but the chocolate mousse was TERRIBLE - i've never tasted such an awful choc mousse - the texture was simply inconsistent and the mousse was NOT COLD. Still, this restaurant is really value for money, given the almost gourmet/fine dining quality of cuisine. A must-try.

Yelp
Thumbs up Summary: Good French food at fair prices and great service After stumbling around Paris for a day, L'Apibo is a nice place to sit down and have a good french meal. Sitting on the side of the busy pedistrian street, you can people watch and enjoy the open air with your friends over some good food. I had the porterhouse steak which was cooked a nice medium rare (North Americaner's be warned, this is not your typical 32 oz porterhouse, it's a much smaller steak (probably 10 oz). The steak came on top of some mash potatoes and sauteed veggies. The foi gras was pretty good, and while I didn't try it, the fish looked like a winner - i'll try that if I'm back. Not a mind blowing meal, but a good one. With an prix fix menu for 32 euros (3 course) or a choice a la carte (8 for the apps, 20 for the main, 8 for dessert) it's a fair price in a popular area of Paris. The place fills up by 8 or so, and it's not a huge place. If it's full there are plenty of other options nearby (disclaimer: I haven't tried any of them yet!)

Yelp
Excellent food at a reasonable price. Fish was perfectly prepared. Innovative sauce. Well presented. The complementary vegetables were deliciously prepared as well. Service good by French standards. They gave us a complimentary extra fish soup course. Good place to go to when you want something above and beyond the meat/frites cafe fare.

Yelp
We were staying in a rented apartment next to this quaint unassuming restaurant on Rue Tiquetonne. Almost every evening it was full, both inside and out. After checking some of the reviews on Yelp we decided to give it a try and went there without reservation, as there were only two of us. Luckily we did get a table outside and a very polite young lady almost immediately brought out two slices of what she called "cheesecake" - savoury, not sweet. We decided to go with the set dinner menu - three choices in each - starter, main and dessert for €40.00. Strictly speaking it is not a classical French bistro menu but more of a modern fusion fare, however it was very good. Main dishes with meats were especially good - flavour, texture, doneness and even the sauce, everything went well together. For dessert I went with the Japanese sounding citrus based fruit sorbet and coulis with merengue - new taste for me, but very refreshing. I highly recommend making a reservation and taking it slow. The street is full of other restaurants with mostly local clientele. Dinning goes till the wee hours of the morning.

Yelp
Way over cooked veal. I had to buy a second dinner somewhere else. Restaurant had slow service and rude staff who thought a dry and over cooked veal was not an issue when paying above average prices for a dinner.

Yelp
Great prix fixe lunches, inventive and tasty and very reasonable. I just keep finding myself heading back for more. One to watch...

Yelp
We walked up to this restaurant and we were treated to an exceptional meal and extremely friendly service by the staff. I recommend "the perfect egg" as a first course, its perfect, and the main dishes were all big hits with our family (monkfish, veal and beef tenderloin). I would give it five stars except cars were allowed on the street, so if you are looking to sit outside with perfect ambiance that will likely not happen. But if you want outstanding food and a wonderful, attentive staff L'Apibo will not disappoint.
