Got the burnt ends with Mac and fries. Burnt ends had good texture and great smokey flavor. Got a side of spicy bbq sauce which went together perfectly. The Mac and cheese was perfect. This was my first time here and I’m going back tomorrow to try something new.

Ive been to all 50 states, tried BBQ many times in all of them. This is the best I have ever had. Hands down. No debate. Very sweet lady at the window hustling her tail feathers off. No ones thinking "Boston huh? Better try the BBQ here...." but damn! It is amazing

Got the combo #2 had to try little bit of everything. Great portion size for the cost Chicken wings were absolutely outstanding. Super crispy with a good seasoning so much juice where the juice and season mixed basically creating its own sauce. Brisket was on pointnsuper tasty and moist Pulled pork was great as well but I'm not a fan of vinegar based sauces as much but was still super tasty. Mac and cheese hit the spot as usual. Beans were good just not my style however they were full of flavor! The owner was super nice and very professional. Will definitely recommend and return there again

This was absolutely delicious! I ordered the smoked brisket platter with Jamaican jerk sauce on the side, along with bbq spaghetti & collard greens. Portions were generous, food had great flavor and the brisket was tender & juicy. This place is right across the street from the Renaissance hotel, so it was about a 2 minute walk. Customer service was great & they had my order ready within 10 mins. If you're ever in town, I highly recommend trying this gem!

OUTSTANDING FOOD. I knew it was gonna be good when the person taking our orders (I presume Larry?) told one of my friends to read the menu when he asked what sides they have. He directed us to wait across the street in a hotel lobby because he didn't want us to wait in the cold. The food kicks ass- the BBQ sauce is bold and has a tiny but of heat, the sweet potato fries are rich and slightly buttery, the meat is tender and smoky, the potato salad is killer. Placed online order midafternoon, given reasonable pick up time and order was ready when I arrived. Ordered 1/2 wings with jerk on the side, wings tasted good and size of wings was on par with other establishments. Also had pulled pork sandwich with no sauce, food was nothing spectacular but of sufficient quantity and quality to earn 4 stars.

I had the opportunity to try the burnt ends, not something I’d normally try, but glad I did! They were amazing, juicy, had an amazing texture, and the flavor was on point. My only regret was wishing I had more. I also had potato salad which was also really good! If you’re in the area, Larry J’s is a must try!

I got wings with fries & candied yams and it was ok for a lunch meal. Improvements needed on the grumpy , dry, rough customer service that I received from staff at the order window. I had more who asked me for a location to eat at but I could not recommend the place because the friendly service was not present. Let someone else work if you can't be kind to customers please and thank you.

Not gonna lie I gave this a 3/5 only because they gave me a butt ton of food Service was okay- slow however. I ordered beforehand to just pick it up and I still had to wait ten minutes past my order time. Food: quantity over quality. Burnt ends was dry and peppery , not sweet. Ribs were juicy but got dry easily. Brisket was tough. Mac and cheese was dry as well... Potato salad was good but it's really hard to mess that up. Fries were very salty but they got that crispiness. Location is pristine I guess so it's easy for them to get customers. I just wish the food tasted better ....

Everything (brisket, ribs, pulled pork, wings, burnt ends) was super-dry. Friend said the sausage was good, but that's it. The guy that took our order was a complete jerk to us. Unfriendly, unhelpful, unresponsive to questions and surly. Fountain soda was one of the worst beverages I've ever drank and they didn't have any straws. Just an incredibly disappointing experience. We would have loved to give them repeat business and great word-of-mouth, but these guys take no pride in their craft.

This food was a culinary disappointment. I ordered (via Uber Eats) a Turkey leg, collard greens and Mac and cheese. Each item ended up seeing the inside of my trash can. The Turkey leg was EXTREMELY hard and flavorless, not tender at all. The collard greens were very bitter and had no seasoning and the Mac and cheese was dry. Mind you, I ordered in the morning (they weren't open yet) but scheduled delivery for when they were open. I felt extremely taken advantage of. While the Turkey leg was big, I knew it would be tasteless as soon as I removed it from its foil sheath. It was evident that I received a turkey leg from the day before. I do not recommend this place in the least.

Staying overnight in the port district before catching a cruise. Walked to this place for dinner. It is outdoor seating and it was a bit chilly. Place was clean and had a large menu My husband loved his sandwich. Mine was ok.

This is basically set up as a food stand with outdoor seating. The food is fantastic and the service is great. If the weather is right, this is an ideal place to stop off for lunch. Enjoy it outside under the trees with the waterfront view

Larry catered a big lunch for us yesterday at our law firm, and for the rest of the day people could not stop talking about how good the food was. Growing up in Texas, I was so excited to have found a place that makes BBQ similar to what I grew up with and loved. I deeply regretted not snagging a plate of leftovers to bring home, but hey, that just means I need to take a drive over to Southie very soon. We had chicken, turkey, and pulled pork, all cooked perfectly and delicious. For sides, we did the cowboy beans, collard greens, and mac and cheese which were all packed with flavor and had everyone kept going back for seconds. Everything was fresh and HOT (temperature) which is always a nice surprise with catering. The sauces provided were fantastic - I did not catch all the names but they offer all sorts of regional options so whatever style of BBQ you are missing, you can have. There was a wide range of spice levels too, for those of you who don't like as much heat. I cannot wait to go back and try more of this menu. I have already been eyeballing future orders. Well worth the trip over, fantastic food with great flavor :) Texas Chili is to DIE for, and the pulled pork is perfectly tender

Literally the best BBQ I've had here. So glad I found this place. The collared greens are to die for. They have a way bigger variety than a lot of other bbq places here. Burnt ends- yum. Loaded hot dogs- yum. The cat fish YUM Prices are pretty damn great for the seaport and for bbq- getting it at a place like sweet cheeks would be double the cost for half the taste.

The food was very good and plenty. We have leftovers. Food stayed hot all throughout. We even walked a few blocks to our hotel and it was still piping hot. Very friendly, too. Next time in town and area will definitely try some other menu items.

I ordered food from Larry J's BBQ Cafe via an app, but then I realized it would be a while till I could sit down to eat, so I called in to see if they'd be willing to pack the fries separately in my Hillbilly Nacho appetizer (Fries, chili, pulled pork, cheese, jalapeno peppers) Half $7.95 before I headed on over. Larry J's is located in a building plopped in the middle of an urban greenspace with tables and chairs strewn about before it. You order at the window out front, and await your order by the window to the side where you may also claim some paper napkins and sauce packets if you wish. The fellow who took my call let me know in a reasonable manner that this request of mine took more time than they can normally extend to each order, but that it was no trouble this time. I appreciated that. Turns out they packed everything separately - the fries (as expected), the pulled pork in a pile, the chili in a soup cup, and the cheese in a sauce cup. Wow. I was imagining the pile of toppings layered up in a dish, with the fries separate. The pulled pork by itself was a bit dry in spots, but mingled with the chili, it was perfect. This was a nice mess of a dish once put back together. Their sweet potato fries $2.95 small from their Teasers menu was a goodly portion, all soft (no crisp) but full of nice sweet potato flavor.

I absolutely love this spot! My favorite bbq in the city if I'm being honest. Portions are amazing, always have leftovers! Service is amazing and they will answer any questions you have! Plus, outdoor seating is the best in the summer!

I let them chose my sides because I couldn't decide. The coleslaw 10/10. Texas chili 10/10. Def my favorite parts of the meal. The burnt ends were really good I just tore the fat off, and I tried the brisket. I would get brisket next time. The Arkansas bbq sauce was so good. Anyways order the coleslaw and chili idc what else you get.

10/10 don't recommend. The owner was rude and not truthful about pricing. Half of the menu board is not working and the prices do not match posted website prices. Additionally his menu states a large soda is 2.50. He is out of cups and said he had cans instead. To my surprise after swiping my card, I am charged $3 each for a canned soda and more than advertised for each plate of food ordered. Sometimes you don't want to cause a scene. I'd much rather let people know about a poor experience and go my own way. Save yourself the time and go somewhere else.

Short takes: Would not recommend the burnt ends or mac. Brisket was OK. Nice location nearby a park. A large group of us ordered while in the area for a convention. I didn't look up the place prior so I went in open and ordered what I would usually get from a place such as this. The guy in front was nice and it appeared the workers liked being there. It took a while for the food. I personally got the Burnt Ends platter with mac and cheese/baked beans. Burnt ends were very different and not in a good way. The rub was heavier with a strong peppery (black peppercorn and something else) flavor and the fat wasn't as rendered as other places. I wouldn't mind this if it had better flavors but it was also very chewy and slightly dry. It was overall some small bits of meat on a very large piece of fat. The portion size was good though I wouldn't expect a smaller one for around 19 dollars. The mac was also different, also slightly dry. It could have used more cheese. The beans on other hand didn't have the issue of the mac/meat where they were almost too soft, lacking some texture. Sauce reminded me of a slightly stronger version of their BBQ sauce, a lot better than what they give out. I usually don't add BBQ sauce to good burnt ends or brisket but it was necessary to cut the pepper and heavy fat flavor. I found it alright though watery; definitely ketchup based. The meal was alright though I would not go back if I was around there. I also tried a bit of brisket from someone else which lacked a bit of smoke/texture but was overall fine. 2.3

Not entirely sure what the deal is but I guess other yelpers are saying the location in Revere is permanently closed? I've never been to it, I just thought there was 2 places. This place right on the sea port is a fantastic location. Im giving it a 4 star for the food but I will say that the attitude of the owner almost made me give it a 3. The website menu and the menu posted on his window aren't the same. And a few places don't allow Ribs or Brisket to be one of the meat options for the combo meals. Or at the least they charge extra. But I couldn't see anything saying what meats are available or what not. Before I could barely get out the question he kinda shouts "Just tell me what you want, don't worry about it". Then I ask how many sides (Or "Fixins") it comes with. He holds up his 2 fingers. Now usually the people will ask me what I want for the sides ... but apparently at this place you have to just shout your order and hope that works out. Closest thing to a Soup Nazi as I've ever experienced in my journey. But then I started adding this and that and the order price went up a bit and that seemed to make him a little happier. Then I said "I'll take a Larry J's Sweat Tea", to which he replied "I Aint Got No Cups! ... Can't Find Them Anywhere around here, they all out!" ... what am I supposed to say to that? Anyways. Got Ribs, Sliced Brisket, and Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken. BBQ Spaghetti, Mac and Cheese, Beans, Cornbread, Candied Yams. Ribs were actually pretty good but only a little bigger than a riblet size. A lot of a darker rub to it, extremely smokey flavor, tender enough but a tiny bit dry. Rub flavor is a bit on the mild savory side but in this instance I really enjoyed it. Still thought they would do better with the sauce so I reached in the bag and realized he'd given me just a big cluster of sauces. First one I pulled out was like a sweet bourbon sauce. It was some of the best sauce I've ever had. His menu offers 7 Sauces but I think I only got 3 different ones and the Vinegar NC sauce is the only one I could tell what it was. BBQ Spaghetti. I've heard of this stuff before but never tried it. Everyone will say it's regular spaghetti and red sauce. The main difference is that the sauce has a nice heat to it and the noodles might be smoked a bit. Mac and Cheese was great, baked style, butter and cheese balance each other out, hardens up pretty quick though. I do believe it was microwaved though, but that's alright. Pulled Pork is pulled nicely with some chunks still in there. Tiny bit dry but still good. Sauce was needed and it made it 100 times better. Brisket is sliced, so that's good. But real tough and leathery. Hard and thick. Flavor on the edge isn't bad, very smokey, a lot of rub. Even the most tender and juicy parts of the brisket though tasted like flavorless turkey to me. Chicken was smoked chicken and pretty good. Smoked well, maybe a nice brine. Nothing wrong with the chicken at all. Beans where essentially traditional canned baked beans, semi sweet bean sauce "gravy" and just pinto all day. Nothing bad, nothing special. Candied Yams was AWESOME! I don't know how anyone can screw it up though. Cornbread was a brick, hardest cornbread I've ever had. Paper didn't even want to come off.

As someone else has pointed out, the food is the real deal. The owner is a bit brusque but he also has a soft side. If you can only get one thing make it the pulled pork sandwich. Amazing

I have no idea about the food because we couldn't get past the horrible miserable rude dude at the counter. I don't think it's indicative of everyone that works here but there was a dude at the register it was having a very bad day and probably a pretty bad portion of his life. Hate to give a bad review to what looks like it could potentially be a decent spot but there is no way we're ever giving our money to a place like this if they hire a complete putz like this dude. Be really careful going in here.

Ordered a pulled chicken salad. Romaine leaves weren't even chopped up. While chicken serving was plentiful it was also very dry.

Food is really good but the owner, who I assume is Larry J himself, is not friendly or helpful, and has a bit of a nasty attitude overall. Still, his food is amazing so I will go back, but I am telling you this upfront so that when you do go (and I hope you do) that it's nothing personal to you. I grew up eating out at Thai and Jamaican spots where this is normal (and even part of the charm really), so I was not really taken aback too much. Others might be! My friends and I got the burnt ends (8/10), wings (9/10), pulled pork (10/10), and pulled chicken (9/10). Everything was great and the sauces were on point-- well balanced and full of spice. The sides were good too. They were hot and fresh, and while they're obviously not the main star of the plates, they did their job well.

First of all, I'm from Texas so when the website mentioned Texas on there, I got a little excited. Let me tell you this is NOT Texas style bbq. I got the box combo and a side of Mac and cheese. The brisket was dry, the baked beans tasted like Bush's baked beans from the can and I cannot figure out their potato salad. The Mac and cheese was dry and hard but I think that's because of the bread crumbs. I ordered sliced bread on the side which I did not receive. Complimentary sliced bread on the side is traditionally served with Texas bbq. There was also no bbq sauce on the side (which should be automatically served with bbq right?). No extras were given such as onions, pickle slices or jalapeños either. I attached a picture of the meal that I received and the Texas style bbq I was expecting and that I'm used to.

The guy may actually have decent bbq but I wasn't able to find out because he was such a jerk. I thought it was me at first but quickly realized he's just a miserable human being. Reading the other reviews I see the guy just can't help himself.

Had a great experience here with my gf, and Larry even came over to hang out with us for a while. The meats were awesome, will definitely be ordering the burnt ends again. The sweet potato fries and Mac and cheese were both 10/10. Can't wait to come back!!

I've driven by this place so many times and always meant to stop in. I finally came across them on Uber eats today and am loving the brisket, chili and Mac and cheese! Will order again and will definitely stop by in person.

1. The other comments about a rude proprietor are spot on. Wish I had read them before. The dude is a total jerk. He should hide in the back and not talk to customers. 2. The prices are crazy high for what you get. 3. The BBQ is average. 4. The location is great! In summary, 1 out of 4 is terrible!

What a shame, I'm new to the Seaport area and wanted to grab a local bite for lunch and found this spot located in a nice park close to the water. I read all of the reviews about how the owner is stand off-ish and rude but I wanted to give it a chance. Wow - let me just say this was horrible customer service - and I'm from LA!! No hello, no thank you, nothing! The owner made me feel weird for asking a question about the menu. The pulled pork sandwich I got was decent but the side of slaw was mediocre. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else.

So I parked my car at Castle Island to walk around Southie for the afternoon on Saturday and found myself very hungry. That's when I saw this place near the waterfront. It's across from some fancy hotel on D street. Great setup here. Tons of outdoor space with lots of tables for dining and people watching. You stand outside and order through a window. The menu is hanging to your right. Larry took my order. Now, I've read the reviews that say he has an attitude, blah blah blah. Really people? Don't be such Massholes! He's really nice and actually wicked funny. He even came out to check on me and a few of the other guests while I was there. To me that shows how much he actually cares about people's experience there. I tried to order the burnt ends but to my disappointment they were out of them. I ended up ordering a half rack of ribs, a smoked brisket sandwich and a pint of collard greens. Yup. I was hungry! Didn't wait to long. maybe about ten minutes and he called out that my food was ready. Of course I had to eat some of it there. It was such a beautiful day and I'm in love with the great outdoor space he has. The ribs were magnificent! I ate everyone of them there. Perfect smokey BBQ with the sauce on the side. This guy knows his Q!! They packaged up the collard greens nice and tight so nothing spilled on my walk back to Castle Island. When I got home I had the Collard green which were absolutely amazing!! So flavorful and cooked perfectly! And the sandwich? Oh em gee!!! I poured the rest of the sauce on it and I was in heaven. Absolutely scrumptious! The bun held up and the meat was tender as could be. Dying to go back here. So happy I ran into this gem!

First time customer , came to pick a online order , owner comes off as rude , $30 combo plate , ordered about an hour before and I still had to wait , cornbread was hard , Mac and cheese was dry , sausage was good tho no lie. won't be coming back.

I came here the other day to get some BBQ with some coworkers and met Larry and the crew. He hooked me up with a veggie burger (the black bean one) and it was really good! This was my first experience with a veggie burger and I am glad that I came to Larry and his team for that! A few of my friends got the BBQ and weren't happy about the amount of meat on the ribs for the price they paid, but they were happy with the chicken they had. I would say if you come here, grab the veggie burger and some sides or grab some chicken- either way you'll be happy! A bit expensive, but I expect that in Seaport. Larry has to pay bills lol

Great job at a catering event I had today. Ordered for 20 people and the food came 15 minutes early and was very hot. Plenty of options for everyone, even vegetarians. Potato salad was one of my favorites, I could've just eaten that alone. Mac n Cheese was a little dry but others seemed to like it. Awesome pulled pork, pulled chicken and spare ribs. Smoked flavor was delicious throughout and the different sauces (3) were great to try on everything. Food was 4-star and the catering was 5-star. Would recommend based off ease of ordering, delivery and group satisfaction. I'll be trying the brick & mortar location next time I have a chance.

Tried this place on a whim since there are no other BBQ joints in the area. - Big portions. - Pulled pork was extremely dry, the sauce helped out big time -- sauce was very tasty. - Mac and cheese was a disgrace. Almost gray in color, with no cheese in sight. Stale, greasy and unappetizing much like some of the other reviews have mentioned. - Service was very rude and unhelpful, there was no greeting or rundown of how the menu worked. Overall it was a disappointment. Compared to Sweet Cheeks and Smoke Shop (Cambridge), this shack sadly does nothing to legitimize the BBQ scene up in Boston.

What a strange but unexpected surprise! In the middle of a random park in Seaport, Larry J's is a mom and pop BBQ place serving some darn good Texas style smoked meats. I stopped by dinner on a weeknight and was the only person there, the menu for dinner is different than lunch so just ask for what you want and Larry will tell you if they have it. I got a two meat plate of Brisket and Burnt Ends with collards and cowboy beans. The collards were good but a little watery and the Brisket was definitely a little too fatty and probably should have smoked at higher temp, but the Burnt Ends and beans easily made up for it. There place is only open until 7 and all the seating is outside, but if you're looking for some good BBQ in Boston.. Definitely give Larry a try!

I came to Boston to visit for a convention. Larry J's was across the street from my hotel. It started to snow so we ordered for pickup via the Yelp app before walking over. There was a group that arrived before us that was ordering. They were obviously unfamiliar with the menu, but the way the presumed owner treated them was rude and unkind. I assume he was the owner because his picture is up there in the photos. When it finally got to my turn, I told him that I had placed an online order, and he said well what's the name? I ordered via my account but my SO paid with his card so I wasn't sure which name it would capture. I said his name instead of my own which turned out to be wrong, so I said mine. He passed us our order and we were in a hurry to leave that we almost forgot my drink until he yelled for us to come back. Now I get that it might have been cold, but I associate BBQ with Southern Hospitality and this guy has none. The food on the other hand was beyond amazing. My SO said that he would put up with the guy's attitude again because the food was worth it. We both had the Two Meat Combos, with the Pulled Pork and the Smoked Brisket. The meats were on point and the serving sizes were generous. The brisket was super tender and the fat just melted in your mouth. As sides, I picked the Mac and Cheese and the Texas Chili. The SO had a double order of Fries. The Texas Chili and the Fries were amazing. Flavors were great and perfectly cooked. The Mac and Cheese could've been improved on. I had a few pieces of pasta that weren't cooked and I had to add a lot of salt and pepper. I took away one star for the bad customer service. If you're thinking of heading here for food, you definitely should but make sure you already know what you want off the menu. Otherwise you might get your head bit off by the guy at the order window.

This places is hidden gem right in sea port Boston. First the food! the beef brisket is THE best I've ever had. With out the BBQ sauce just biting into the beef you can feel the tenderness of it. The flavor of the beef is overwhelming by southern flavor. Think I got a bit of creole seasoning. Moisture and texture of the beef was excellent. The BBQ sauce served on the side of this sandwich made me feel like I was down south. Majority of places in Boston have the same kind of BBQ sauce but his places stands out on top of all. NOW ABOUT THE PORK, just know the only place you can get a pulled pork sandwich this good is Florida or Louisiana. exactly customer by the owners Larry and Linda, they are God driven people, who are humble, funny, and have the two brightest smiles that is always welcoming. This place is awesome. Support support support and make sure this hard working old couple knows what there value to our community is.

O-M-G where do I even begin? One Saturday afternoon after recently moving in to the neighborhood (about a month ago), I got very hungry and decided to try this place. The best way for me to try a new place is to pretty much order everything off the menu. So, I ordered the wings (bbq & buffalo), brisket, sweet potato fries, mac n' cheese, smoked linked sausage, southern fried catfish, baked beans, candied yams, and the hillbilly nacho...because why not? The food was absolutely finger licking good! Since then, I have been back almost every weekend and the wings are my staple, but last night I had the pulled pork and was transported to another universe. It doesn't hurt that Larry is such a sweetheart. He has a customer in me for life. People, if you're hungry and looking for really good BBQ, look no more!

Mmmm I'm so easily won over by BBQ. This was a small shack surrounded with outdoor seating. The food was good--not particularly amazing but it is HARD to find good bbq in Boston. There's a wide spread of barbecue options all made with time and love by Larry. He's a bit aggressive with the customers but I'll respect that if the food is good. I had the quarter rack of ribs, burnt ends, and sweet potato fries. I think I have an addiction...to sweet potato fries. These were fantastic but I'm a poor judge because I don't think I've ever had bad sweet potato fries... The burnt ends were okay... not what I was expecting for some reason. The meaty pieces were really tough and the fatty pieces were just all fat. I had to take a bite of one and then the other to balance it out. I've had some melt in your mouth burnt ends and this just didn't stand up to that. The ribs were quite tasty... nice and meaty with a good smokey flavor. This is good choice in warmer weather if you happen to be at the BCEC or that area. Most of those restaurants are pricey and this is more low key with tasty food!

Tried the food through Uber Eats and was slightly disappointed. I got the Whole Chicken Posse meal and burnt ends. Chicken was great and burnt ends slightly tough, but still good. The sauce was a bit thin and not as full flavored, so I used some store bought sauce as well. My main gripe was the mac and cheese, which seems to be a miss based on most reviews of it that I've read over the 2 year's worth of reviews on here. It lacked cheese and was more oily than cheesy. I'm not sure who loves this style mac & cheese, but they must be few in number. I think if this many people dislike it, a change should happen quickly. As a fellow food service proprietor, I know that my rep is only as good as my customers experience. You gotta give some credence to customers when they largely dislike something that's within your control to fix. After all, they are the ones who support your business. Throw a little cheese roux on that mac, use extra cheese, something....

Because I grew up in eastern North Carolina, I'm pretty picky about my barbecue. My siblings and I ordered delivery from Larry J's recently and we sincerely enjoyed our feast. The pulled pork was delicious, as were all the sides. My favorites were the mac and cheese, cole slaw, potato salad, and pasta salad. We'll definitely be ordering again!

I work in the Seaport area and my co-worker and I were out and about on a sunny day, looking for something different. We wanted to treat ourselves and go for a nice walk and this place seemed perfect. Located across from Boston's fish pier, within a small park, this BBQ shack-like structure seems like a perfect spot. It's highly visible and there's nothing next to it or above it. The modest, stand-alone structure seems relatively new and is well maintained. We walked up to the window, and after glancing at one of the printed menus next to it, placed our order. I went with a brisket sandwich ($9) and a side of coleslaw ($5.96). The pricing was a bit weird but I was hungry and it was meant to be a treat so I voluntarily obliged and then proceeded to wait by the window. We were the only ones in line even though it was 12:45PM-ish which was kind of weird and the guy on the other side who took our order wasn't all that nice and borderline rude. We waited for a few minutes and then that same guy, who I suspect is the owner, slide the ordering window open and rudely asked us to walk around the shack onto the other side, to the other window so that we could eventually get our food. He accused us of blocking the way for other patrons... even though they were no other patrons... and plenty of space. It was really weird and the whole situation was pretty awkward. Fast forward 15 more minutes and I'm back at my desk eating the sandwich. The brisket was lean but dry, flavorless and the smoke ring on it was barely visible. Not impressed at all. Worst of all, the coleslaw was horrendous. I've be very hard pressed to return here because of how rude they were and also because of their pricing and food quality. On the upside, they'll probably have to step up their game because otherwise they'll be in real trouble since a BBQ restaurant will be opening at the corner of Stillings and Congress Street late in 2016. But for now, no thanks.

I had this food at work as part of their "diverse eats" program. Absolutely delicious food! Hit the spot and kept me going the rest of the day at work. Their BBQ sauce for the pulled pork is so good I could drink it!

If you're a BBQ enthusiast and you're searching for the best spot in Boston, you can stop looking because THIS IS IT. It's so good actually, that it's hard to fully describe. You simply need to experience it for yourself to understand. I was having some people over today so I decided to take a chance on Larry, considering it's a 30 second walk from my apartment. For appetizers we had the wings and the Hillbilly Nacho which is fries smothered in delicious barbecue pork. Out of all the dishes we ordered, this was the star of the show. Do yourself a favor and order the Hillbilly Nacho. It'll change your life. We also ordered the fried catfish sandwich, the sausage sandwich, the brisket sandwich and the ribs. Everything was just so good but my favorite was the catfish. Unbelievably delicious. To top it all off, for our sides, we ordered the Mac & Cheese and the candied yams. I'm sitting here writing this review as I try to recover from a food coma. I can't move but it was so worth it. I will most definitely be going back very soon.

I rarely review a place, but as a native Texan who lived in the Hill Country (and not in Austin, which is a theme park) I felt the need to address an area of specialty. Sadly, there are no competent Tex-Mex restaurants in Boston, so I had to default to the Republic's other main food, our beloved BBQ, which has strict requirements for its preparation and consumption. I found Larry J's to be quite competent, so I graded it on the Texan scale. Note this was an UBER delivery, so certain things are not reviewed. PROS: + Arrived with absolutely no sauce on the meat, but available on the side. This is an indication of the chef's competence, as sauce is used to cover up deficiencies in the meat. + Fat still on the brisket, which is a good thing. The meat near the fat and the bone produces the most flavorful meat. I don't mind a bit of shaving for better taste. + Sides were competently executed, but subject to one caveat below. Fries were impressively good for a BBQ place, where they are often an afterthought. + Flavors were excellent for this area of the US, again subject to 1 caveat, below. + Three sauces on the side, one representing the molasses-heavy North Carolina style, one representing the ArkLaTex pepper style, and one that was allegedly the representative of Texan "spicyness." + All in all, it will keep a Texan sane, which is a good thing. KINDA-CONS: = Everything was too... cold. Not temperature wise, but spicy-wise. Texas BBQ is about punishing yourself for your sinful ways, and the heat is the way to do so. Still, considering that Texas-level heat would probably mean Larry wouldn't sell anything, I'd give it a break. A necessary accommodation to soft northern palates. = In the Republic, using apple and hickory to smoke meat will get you shot, and the cops will call it justifiable. One only uses mesquite and pecan, but I imagine that it's quite difficult to get either up here, so it's forgivable. CONS: - Beans in chili. Absolutely criminal. If this was Boerne there would be riots. The fact that I had to go to the spiciness of the food and the type of tree used is an indication of Larry's overall quality, and I'll be back. BYO habaneros, of course.

This place is a killer when it comes to their pulled pork or brisket, the only two items I've had here besides their Burnt Ends, which melt in your mouth. A sign outside basically says they serve good food, not fast food, which is a truism here. You'll wait 5-10 minutes for your meal but it's sooo worth it. The only downside is when I ordered buffalo fries. I had a 5 minute walk back to my office but already the fries were cold, stuck together, and not appealing. The taste is fine so I gotta wonder what they would have tasted like if I tried them after getting them.

Had to unexpectedly feed 14 people dinner yesterday so I thought I would give a neighbor some business. At 3pm I ordered over $100 worth of food to pickup at 5pm via their website. When I got the confirmation it came back as ready at 5:30, which really wasnt helpful. I went just after 5 to see if I could pick it up. The store representative was just plain mean - condescending, rude, aggressive, etc. Food was ok, but there is no way I am giving this guy any more business.

OMGoodness! Best pulled park and collard greens in Boston. And the cornbread is heavenly. This is a family owned establishment and the owner is often there to ensure quality service and food. He also prepares it fresh and you can definitely tell. Great selection of barbecue sauces too!

Sorry to say, the ribs were gray and dull and clearly hadn't been near a flame in quite a while. The Arkansas sauce was unremarkable. I also ordered buffalo wings. The wings were covered with some sauce that wasn't buffalo sauce and were not fried crispy ( I'm not talking about breading). When I asked about the sauce they insisted it was buffalo. Either they were wrong or they've never tasted real buffalo wings. Also the iced tea was not fresh brewed.

It was our first time and we weren't disappointed. Great BBQ, loved the choice of sauces, and the sides did not disappoint. We'll definitely be back!
