London’s New Bar Openings - London - The Infatuation

"Larry’s Bar—a new underground cocktail bar in the National Portrait Gallery—has a backstory straight out of an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?. It’s named after Sir Laurence Olivier and it used to be a Victorian coal storage space. There’s a secret entrance hidden on Charing Cross Road and the menu has snacks like Exmoor caviar and lobster rolls. Expect plush, velvet booths and portraits from the gallery’s own collection on the walls." - daisy meager, sinead cranna

Best Christmas Sandwiches 2020 | London Restaurant Christmas Sandwiches | Eater London

"Available until the 31st of December, the Christmas sandwich from Peckham’s American diner-inspired spot Larry’s is large and in charge. Crisp and craggly Turkey breast schnitzel comes sandwiched in light and airy focaccia alongside an acid mixture of sprout top Kimchi, fermented cranberry umeboshi ketchup, mustard mayo, and melted cheese that gives the whole thing a lively brio. Like umami? You’re gonna love this." - Lucas Oakeley

After an enjoyable afternoon viewing the exhibits at The National Portrait Gallery my wife, her cousin and I decided to have lunch at Larry’s. Right away we were greeted by our server Marko who went above and beyond to help with our choices on the menu. He was very pleasant and friendly on top of providing us with excellent service throughout the meal. I was pleased to see for dessert a plate of assorted Lamingtons just what I needed in preparation for our trip to Sydney in November. They were excellent!

We came to the National Portrait Galery and brunch at Larry's. Andrea was our server and she was delightful and very accommodating. The brunch was amazing and what followed went beyond our expectations. I had tbe award winning McBean's Dirty Martini and a Lemmington Party (mini cake desert). My daughter had a lovely cheesecake and a raspberry cooler. Excellent treat for a mother and daughter out in London. Thanks Andreea! X

Went here on the AMEX restaurant festival night with a set menu. The food was very good, very well presented and portions were a decent size. The cocktails were nice, but a bit pricey. The service was for the most part good. Because we were with the AMEX restaurant festival it felt a bit lacking as they had two people serving about 14 tables. It got better as it settled. The atmosphere was good until a live 70s band started playing at 8pm. They were good, but way too loud for a dinner place.

Great spontaneous drinks and dinner, totally satisfied with it. Great sharing foods, nice jazz music and cool setting under the gallery makes it a secret gem. Friendly staff also helped - our lady Andreea very quick and noticed when I needed a wine or cocktail 🍸

My first visit since it was opened about two years ago replacing a dark cramped cafe. Named after Sir Lawrence Olivier and posting some iconic portraits of stars of yesteryear. Quite impressed with the glamour bar, glitzy decor and comfy seating. Quite a short brunch menu but delicious. Would have given it five stars but when asking for extra olive oil for the salad, was brought a watery lemon dressing.

Larry’s bar and restaurant at The National Portrait Gallery is what I consider to be London’s best kept secret. It is situated in the gallery’s historic vaults and sits directly beneath the popular cafe, Audrey Green. The ambiance of Larry’s is attractive, elegant, vibrant, luxurious and relaxing. The music selection as well as the sound level is perfect. The delicate fragrance lingering in the air is delightful and pleasant. The tables are spaced appropriately apart from one another and the seating is comfortable and stylish. The walls are covered with quirky and interesting photography and art work, depicting popular art culture. The cocktail bar is stunning and has a glamorous and posh feel to it. The exposed brick walls adds contrast as well as timeless sophistication to the overall space. The interior is reminiscent of a vibrant classy 1920’s bar which I imagine a refined gentlemen such as the likes of Sir Harry Gordan Selfridge might have been a regular frequenter of, if he were alive today. The miso roasted aubergine is to die for. The combination of flavours are perfectly balanced and they compliment each other superbly. The aroma is pleasant and the textures work together like a healthy marriage. The ingredients are clearly of the highest and finest quality. The beef short rib was tender, succulent, moist and delightfully appetising to the palate. The entire menu is mouth watering and I thoroughly look forward to trying other dishes at this gem of a restaurant. The mars bar cheesecake was beyond moreish and so satisfying - if you have a sweet tooth as much as I do then you will not regret ordering it! The presentation of the dishes is impressive and is arranged beautifully with just the right amount of garnishing for the finishing touches. Our host (a gentleman with a friendly disposition from Italy whose name has unfortunately slipped my mind) was courteous, professional and helpful. I cannot fault this fabulous bar and restaurant. Larry’s has become my new favourite restaurant to dine at. I hope my review has been helpful and thank you very much indeed for having taken the time to read it.

We ordered from the pre-theatre set menu - we had the mushroom parfe starter, the burata starter, the augergine main and the beef rib main; the food is AMAZING! I ordered the sticky toffee pudding, however we were in a rush and Andreea very kindly asked the kitchen staff to pack it for me 😄 Great service, thank you! The cocktail's menu is very interesting, we enjoyed reading about the drinks hehe We will be back 🍸 Thank you!

I dined alone and the staff were so friendly and attentive, I loved every minute of being here. I was nervous about eating/drinking somewhere on my own (I made a spontaneous trip to London instead of going to work) and I felt really comfortable at Larry’s- placed at a quiet table. Admittedly I was standing for a while waiting to be seated but they apologised and after that all drinks and food came quickly. The cocktails were gorgeous, well thought out and the server explained in great detail what each drink was. The food was honestly perfect. When I finished I went to the gallery gift shop, bought the cocktail book and now have it proudly on display at home to remind myself that it’s okay to go out on your own and treat yourself!
