"There’s no lack of gelato shops in NYC, though this one is probably the best of the bunch. Handmade the Italian way, using strictly natural, seasonal ingredients, the gelato here is just sweet and creamy enough that it doesn’t feel overly heavy. The permanent location inside Chelsea Market is always a good bet, while the summer pop-up by the High Line is ideally located for grabbing a scoop or three before a stroll."

Delicious. I was in the mood for something sweet and lemony. We ended up getting a small and doing both lemon and stracciatella. The stracciatella was so good. It was not overly sweet. The fattiness created a wonderful coating in our mouths. The lemon was so lemony. We loved them so much that we ended up going back about an hour later and getting one of each separately. The counter takes up a small space and they do well with the space they have. An absolute must for a sweet treat!

Google
The yogurt one tastes bad I left it at the counter, they didn’t allow me to exchange this flavor and they didn’t want to give me my money back. The lady at the picture argued that there are no returns and she didn’t offer exchange for another flavor. I will dispute it with my bank then.

Visited Chelsea Market and was very captivated by the gelato cakes as soon as I saw them. I did a walk through the market to make sure I checked out everything before buying a dessert but had to come back here to get one. I decided to get the “Oro di Sicilia”, a pistachio gelato cake. It was delicious, with authentic pistachio flavour and a nice interplay of different textures. Very smooth and creamy gelato! I really enjoyed this!

If you have a sweet tooth and visiting the Chelsea Market, then swing by and try L’Arte del Gelato! This velvety frozen dessert is perfection in every lick! My personal favorite flavor was the Panna Cotta 🙂

Amanda Baer

Google
Gelato was delicious, but the cheesecake was spectacular!!!! Plus nice that we could sample different flavors.

Google
The sugar cone was really fresh and the banana gelato was great. The texture of the gelato is amazing and perfect. I would not recommend the cannoli gelato as it had these little pieces of something orange flavored in it. My husband and kids enjoyed the Oreo, mint chocolate chip and sour Cherry.

Google
First time seeing this gelato on my trip to NY. It was very tasty. It was a bit chilly out but still nice to get some gelato after a nice luncheon at Chelsea Market.

Andres Chaparro

Google
Good gelato place located inside Chelsea Market. I think they need more variety of flavors. I ordered one cone with two flavors. Vanilla and cheesecake. The vanilla one was delicious but the cheesecake one had a very eggy flavor tho.

Yelp
L'Artedel Gelato@Chelsea Market 75 9th. Ave. New York, NY 10011 Pistachio Gelato The pistachio gelato was thick and creamy. It was a fantastic after meal. If you aren't craving cashew flavored Italian ice cream, there's at least 20 others options. The only trouble you'll have is choosing!

Yelp
Always a popular business at the end of Chelsea Market & decided to try it on the first 80°F day. It always seemed overpriced to me, so I never did; it is still very overpriced at about $7.70 for a small cup. The portion was decent / comparable to other gelaterias. I want to acknowledge the friendly staff and their quick service and endurance dealing with so. many. tourists. The queued line looks bad, but moves pretty fast. The texture of the gelato was good, but the three stars is for the flavor. I could taste the hazelnut with the first few bites, with a few tiny pieces of nut mixed in. But afterwards, there was barely any flavor. I get the impression that a panna cotta is mixed with a Tiny bit of hazelnut flavoring , or 50/50 with hazelnut gelato. It was also 6pm on a Saturday, the tray of hazelnut looked recently refreshed but just didn't have much flavor.

Yelp
This is my go to ice cream spot in Chelsea (and really all of nyc as far as i'm concerned). I always go with the 2 scoop hazelnut/pistacchio on a waffle cone and it's always fire. I love these two flavors so I pretty much order it every ice cream place I go to and this is one of the few places where the flavors genuinely taste like what they're named after. I feel like a lot of other places add too much other elements into the flavor like adding a ton of sugar, but L'Arte del Gelato lets the raw hazelnut and pistacchio flavors do all the talking. Just make sure you get there before the rush and the lines start to build up! It gets rough waiting behind people who want to try every single flavor before making a decision!

Charles D.

Yelp
Real, delicious, creamy, gelato!! You can get multiple flavors so I got pistachio and tiramisu!! When the scooped it, I thought it was gonna be icy but it was super creamy and flavorful.

Yelp
This is a review specifically for the larte de gelato inside the Chelsea market not the stand they have outside in the summer months. The gelato is delicious but I will never again support this company because their workers are so rude. Upon asking for my first sample the worker who was a male said in the most condescending tone " you only get 3" i knew that because there was a sign but I heard when the girls in front of me asked for samples, he never forewarned them. I'm not sure if it's cause they were white and he's white, and I'm Asian so he preemptively assumed I was just sampling and not buying ? That's just my assumption, as he seemed very cheery helping them and very grumpy helping me. The ice cream although delicious, was not well enjoyed, due to the attitude. I asked for a cono small then quickly realized it was cone only and asked if we could also have a cup to place the cone in after ( have never ever had an issue with this at any ice cream shop, have also made this same request before in the summer to the stand outside and always had no problem) he proceeded to say in a very rude way "you asked for a cone" I responded "I know but I'd like a cup so I can put it all in to avoid spilling/ melting". He sighed a loud sigh and gave me a cup at the end but also barely scooped my second scoop, due to this interaction. If I'm paying almost $9 for 2 scoops I expect a full scoop of both not just 1 and a half because you were having a bad day. Attached is the picture of the rude man. There are a lot of gelato stores in NYC and many without rude employees who have a bone to pick with the rest of the world. If you hate your job, take it up with yourself and find another one- not with me, a girl just trying to get some gelato.

Yelp
The gelato is really good here, I really like the tart yogurt flavors. Lines are decent given it's in Chelsea Market and the service is okay.

Henry B.

Yelp
Came in on a wed afternoon Food 5/5: deliciously smooth gelato. Got the pistachio and hazelnut Value 3.5/5: 10$ for a small, ok value, seems a fair price but wouldn't say amazing value, Overall 4.3/5: good gelato at a fair price, would come again if I'm in the area

Esmeralda C.

Yelp
Service is great and the cake and gelato I tried was delicious. They are located near the 15th street and 10th avenue exit by the small seating area.

Samantha C.

Yelp
Located inside the Chelsea Market. We needed something sweet after eating throughout the market and we stumbled upon L'Arte del Gelato. I got the PISTACCHIO SICILIANO GELATI and it was delicious. Just the right amount of sweetness and was so creamy! The serving size was perfect enough to split with another person (even though I didn't). Will totally be back to try other flavors when I'm back in the area.

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
One of the best pistachio gelatos I've had in my life & I've had my fair share! The texture was so creamy and the flavor didn't taste artificial. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in or near Chelsea market. Price is a bit steep but we'll worth it. Service was okay, they let you taste 2 flavors, choose wisely!

Ava W.

Yelp
I would first want to say that L'Arte del Gelato was a big milestone for me. As someone who had a weird sensory distain for ice cream growing up, due to temperature and texture, L'Arte del Gelato was the first place where I had actually enjoyed the serving and would happily finish a scoop. My all time favorite flavor from them is their olive oil flavor. Anyone I have recommended to in the past had their reservations but as soon as they had it, they very quickly became a fan. This was the first time that I had their olive oil, serving in probably two years. I was very excited to show my partner, who is a big foodie, what ice cream broke the barrier for me. I was expecting the price jump due to inflation, but unfortunately, the olive oil scoop we got had next to nothing flavor. There was a very slight hint of something extra in the scoop, but it wasn't the obviously tasting olive oil that I've had years prior. It might sound crazy for me to go this hard on a review for ice cream, but I was really disappointed with what I got during our last visit due to the personal importance this booth means to me. I'm not sure if it was the batch that was lacking... but given how things are generally subsidized after the pandemic, I hope that this might have been a fluke experience. It also sucks that the olive oil flavor is seasonal, but that I understand. We won't be able to come back here until next year, so I hope that we perhaps have a different experience then!

Yelp
I went to a gelato place to get sorbet, don't do that, get gelato. I got the small cup with a scoop of mixed berry and passion fruit. L'arte del Gelato is located within the Chelsea market place. Their staff is very patient and will let you try a decent amount of flavors to sample. Ultimately helping me pick what I thought would be the best complementing flavors. The mixed berry was slightly tart, sweet, and for lack of better word, creamy. It was very easy to dig in with the little spoon. You get little chunks of frozen blue berry and bits of other frozen whole berries. This was the better scoop I had. The passion fruit was incredibly sweet and not as tart. I did not anticipate this. It was a bit overbearing. Still good but difficult to finish quickly. I will have to come back to try more flavors!

Dhruti T.

Yelp
I tried the mint chip and the hazelnut gelatos and loved both. The mint was very refreshing and both were creamy and delicious. It was fun walking around Chelsea market while enjoying the gelato but if you prefer to sit there are chairs and tables available close by. They also had a few sorbet flavors if you prefer that.

Nina C.

Yelp
Cute gelato stand in Chelsea market. Has a decent amount of flavor options and they all taste pretty great! You can buy the gelato here and bring it to little island to eat :)

Zoe H.

Yelp
super long line, thought it was going to worth the wait. not only were the employees short with questions due to allergies & unsure on flavorings, the taste of the food tastes pretty bad. way to sugary & bland, & wasn't worth the price - very expensive - & time i spent there. truly wasn't fresh nor authentic gelato

Jenny T.

Yelp
Finally my search is over. I've been trying to find a place in New York that we serves gelato similar to what I had in Italy. Their hazelnut transported me back to Italy. It might be the best I can get here.

Melody C.

Yelp
I couldn't pass up on ice cream in the middle of winter as I walked through Chelsea Market. The shop was so alluring with its beautifully displayed gelatos and pink theme. I asked to try the pistachio flavor, but I don't think the staff liked that very much. Though they still let me sample it, I was hesitant to try another flavor, so I just got the pistachio in a small cup. At least the pistachio was delicious! It got overwhelming after a while, so definitely recommend getting a scoop of another flavor lol.

Kay R.

Yelp
The line for L'Arte del Gelato caught my attention, and I just had to try it. I had two scoops of dulce de leche in a waffle cone. Absolutely delicious!

Frank A.

Yelp
L'Arte Del Gelato is a good spot for gelato in Chelsea Market. Very smooth and great mouth feel, although not incredible flavor. Service is excellent.

Apolonia E.

Yelp
I love this gelato place every time we visit the Chelsea market i make sure to stop by to get gelato with my children.

Justin T.

Yelp
This was a cute gelato place inside of Chelsea Market. There was a bit of a line, but it went by fast! We got the Panna Cotta gelato and the Cocco e Mango (Mango Coconut). The Cocco e Mango was good, but wasn't my favorite. I really enjoyed the Panna Cotta and found the rich caramel flavor to be a nice touch. It was $6.95 for a cone or a cup, whhich comes with up to 2 flavors. Overall it was a solid gelato spot. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but I would come back if I were in the area.

Julia S.

Yelp
Get the raspberry gelato!! I ordered a small cup of raspberry and lemon. The lemon was very good, but quite tarte, so the sweet raspberry complimented it quite well (except that it wasn't super balanced and I got like 80% lemon). The small was more than enough for one hungry, gelato-seeker (me), but it could definitely be shared if folks just had a meal and aren't looking for TOO much dessert.

Jenifer M.

Yelp
Gelato is delicious but extremely expensive- $7.25 for a small cup but 2 flavors ok. Service was fine and there are tables nearby to enjoy in Chelsea market. My favorite flavors were mascarpone and pistachio.

Celine W.

Yelp
Visited L'Arte del Gelato and here's the scoop (get it? ): Tried their sorbets--big mistake. Extremely sweet, especially the mixed berry, which felt more like a mix of different flavored sugars. The pistachio flavor was a bit... interesting; you had to bite into the pistachio chunks to get the hint that this was Pistachio. The gelato itself didn't quite capture the pistachio flavoring. The line setup was a bit chaotic, with dividers not well-organized, leading to a bit of a free-for-all. On the positive side, the service allowed us to sample flavors before committing to the specific flavors. However, post-purchase, it was a different story. Attempts to get assistance, like asking for an extra spoon, were met with no service at all--once you bought, it seemed they turned a blind eye. If you're into gelato, be cautious with the sorbets, and brace yourself for a less-than-organized line experience. Service is a mixed bag--friendly at the start, but post-purchase attention seems to wane. ‍

Kristina P.

Yelp
Pricey, but delish! Two friends and I were visiting Chelsea Market while in NYC and each of us got a different flavor to all try. We got strawberry cheesecake, coffee, and raspberry chocolate. The strawberry cheesecake was my fave, but all were really good! It was a good snack to have while perusing the market.

Heather L.

Yelp
Read through some of these reviews and my experience was nothing like some of the bad ones. Gelato was flavorful, I got pistachio and mascarpone in a small cup. and I liked the pistachio pieces in the pistachio flavor. Staff was friendly and efficient, short line and not too crazy but it was a Thursday afternoon.

jackie g.

Yelp
I had a really disappointing experience at this establishment. The male employee behind the counter had a terrible attitude, which made the situation even worse. After placing my order, I attempted to pay with cash, only to be told that they were only accepting card payments. I pointed out that there was no prior notice, no sign, and he hadn't informed us before we ordered. Instead of being understanding, he responded with irritation. When I mentioned I had the exact change, his attitude became even worse, which was completely unprofessional. It's frustrating when staff are unhelpful and don't communicate clearly, especially when there's no sign to warn customers in advance. I won't be returning. This happened today 02/27/28 at 8:40 pm

Heather W.

Yelp
Gelato ok, expensive. Horrific customer service. Came here Sunday 4/30. Avoid the passive aggressive female here who pointed out the hole she obviously poked into my waffle cone, then was upset when I answered yes when she asked if I wanted one without a giant hole in the side. WELL OF COURSE. THERE IS NOW A GIANT HOLE IN THE SIDE OF MY CONE. Then the guy next to her told her to be careful, and she argued "they're all like that". THEN WHY WAS IT EXACTLY WHERE SHE WAS HOLDING HER THUMB?! Then she threw the first cone away and scooped me another small, HALF the size of the original. Avoid this passive aggressive disaster. Why she didn't just transfer it is beyond me. Terrible. So not worth the drama. There are SO MANY OTHER BUSINESSES HERE, who are actually nice to you and don't force you to accept a broken/inferior product.

Constance L.

Yelp
Got a caffe affogato which was tasty! However, it didn't match the picture AT ALL. It was missing the whipped cream (staff notified me they were out so I asked for a bit of extra gelato instead) AND all the little toppings in the photo on the stand. It was served with a Ferrero Rocher instead which was still tasty. The espresso was smooth (not sour at all) and the gelato was rich, but didn't blow me away. It was about $10. While I'm glad I tried it, I wouldn't spend this much for this dessert again.

Arpita G.

Yelp
This place is so hyped up online but I was frankly disappointed with my experience. Food: Ordered 3 scoops: ricotta and caramelized figs, pistachio, and tiramisu. Disappointed at the get-to when they said I couldn't get it in a cone and had to do a cup. The scoops were TINY and barely filled the cup. They would serve a scoop and then make it smaller to barely cover space in the bowl. For $10 this is was definitely not worth it. The taste was okay but nothing out of the world and I've had gelato at many different places. Service: Bad. Not a smile or welcome atmosphere. We asked for an extra cup since ours was starting to drip and they tried to charge us 5 cents. I thought it was a joke but hr was dead serious. We got 1 napkin and when we asked for more, he handed us 1 more. I would not return here based on the ridiculous prices for the small portions and awful service. Don't be fooled by the long line and take your appetite elsewhere!

Gnarles M.

Yelp
Delicious gelato for sure especially the mint chocolate chip. Nice service and friendly too despite the long lines.

Anthony P.

Yelp
My friend from Italy said this place makes some of the best gelato in the city and having had a good amount of gelato under my own belt I have to agree! STRACIATELLA / PISTACHIO The gelato prevails by way of texture - creamy, light, SMOOTH and you don't feel that it's too heavy. Perfect summer dessert. Just be sure to eat quick because it melts fast. Actually I learned when I went to Italy that traditional (and by some peoples measures, the best) gelato shouldn't be on display in piles but rather lie mysteriously in metal tubs and must be dug out with the scooper like treasures, as "real" gelato would melt if exposed to room air. And this definitely passes the test Stracciatella was milky sweet with nice pieces of chocolate shards crunching delicately and occasional snap with resistance. Pistachio fragrantly nutty and does NOT taste of pistachio extract. Silky smooth and not TOO sweet - satisfies you without leaving a saccharine aftertaste or post-dessert vibe. Do yourself a favor and grab a scoop next time you're around!

Aya E.

Yelp
Ordered: Coppetta Piccola (up to 2 flavors) (~$7): with Banana & Biscotti de Mamma Rosa flavors Aya's take: As I was leaving Chelsea Market after grabbing lunch, L'Arte del Gelato caught my eye so I figured I'd grab a light dessert to share. The gelato was soft, creamy, and the sweetness was balanced. I love banana flavored anything and it actually went so well with the Biscotti. Definitely recommend grabbing a quick snack on your way out of Chelsea Market!

Anna P.

Yelp
Lovely little gelato shop located in Chelsea market! They didn't have a ton of flavors to choose from but I requested chocolate and they got some from the back for me! I love the cute cones they offer and the gelato was fresh and delicious! Would definitely recommend!

Ka C.

Yelp
Always been a big fan of L'Arte del Gelato! It is located in the back of Chelsea Market and always has a wide variety of flavors. The lines aren't too bad either, and it moves pretty quick. There is some indoor seating nearby (FYI you need to have proof of vaccination to eat inside). My go-to flavors are pistachio and hazelnut, but I have recently tried their cinnamon flavor and it is becoming a new favorite (tastes exactly like cinnamon toast crunch but in gelato form!). The small scoop is around $6 but it is actually a lot of ice cream, and they let you pick 2 different flavors.

Annie Y.

Yelp
The staff at L'Arte del Gelato are super friendly! They move the line quickly and have a positive attitude while greeting you! This was my first time visiting and I decided to try the Pistachio and Hazelnut! Pistachio is always my go to gelato flavor so I was happy that they let you choose two flavors for your order. The pistachio was definitely creamy and more flavorful than any other pistachio flavor I've tried in the city. My boyfriend was expecting a Nutella type gelato for the Hazelnut flavor but was pleasantly surprised to taste bits of real hazelnut in the gelato. The quality is definitely on par with the price point so definitely splurge! They do offer a pint promo after 6pm!

Chithra V.

Yelp
Yummy ice creams!! I got a Pistachio and a hazelnut combo scoops and they were yum. They are so rich in taste. The price per scoop is nominal. Service is very fast. There's always a long line but it gets through quickly. Nothing great about the ambiance but I really loved the ice cream. Must visit place!!

Annie B.

Yelp
This is a must visit at Chelsea's market!! The gelato tasted amazing, but the only con is that it's very expensive.. not a surprise for NYC. The smallest size which comes with 2 flavors is around $6. But they let you sample flavors which has been rare at ice cream shops during the pandemic! So yay!!

Hassan S.

Yelp
Confused as to why there aren't more reviews of this place. I've been here twice, almost five years apart and both times the gelatin was amazing. It's nice to get after you eat at one of the many restaurants. I've had the milk chocolate, cherry, yogurt with berries and pistachio and all were good flavors. The texture and consistency are all what you expect with gelatin. Overall should try

Jenny G.

Yelp
We only tried the gelato from their cart on the High Line and not their stand inside Chelsea Market, so we are not sure if there are differences between the two locations. We ordered Caffè and Biscotti di Mamma Rosa - the gelato was icy and not as creamy as gelato normally is. We really liked Caffè, it had a strong, fragrant flavor.

Russ S.

Yelp
Fantastic gelato! A little higher than other places, but this gelato is art and I guess we weren't surprised after enjoying it in the busy, busy, BUSY Chelsea Market in Manhattan. We'll be back.

M A.

Yelp
Really like their gelato! Last time I was here I tried their Olive Oil flavor. This time I tried their Granduia and Menta Cioccolate

Allie S.

Yelp
Surprisingly good gelato stand in the very tourist packed Chelsea Market. The smallest cup can hold two flavors so I tried the straciatella and chocolate hazelnut. Both were very good and the serving size and price were acceptable given the area it's located.

Alisa J.

Yelp
Delicious and refreshing gelato! I tried the tangerine (dairy free) and it was so good and creamy! The tangerine flavor was incredible. Very nice and refreshing on a hot day. It was a bit pricey for the smallest size, but worth getting if you're in the Chelsea area!

Genevieve D.

Yelp
did not accept my $20 that had a rip in the corner... have never been to such a place like this like i'm kinda annoyed and i couldn't enjoy my gelato with the bitter taste of that interaction in my mouth. it is good tho but not rly worth. go to the stationary store next to it tho its fire

Alice L.

Yelp
Cutie little store inside the Chelsea Market main level towards entrance. Server was sweet. We got to sample coffee (super strong). I winded up ordering the pistachio and fruit berry sorbet. Highly recommend. They scoop it with a spatula which was a nice unique twist different than scoops. i personally liked it more.

Andrea S.

Yelp
I had two flavors: mixed berries and biscoff cookies and they were both good! The line was short and worth it! It's a little cart located in the Chelsea market.

Coya G.

Yelp
This place is in the Chelsea Market. It's wayyyyy in the back. There was no line no wait. I taste tested 3 flavors. Lemon. Strawberry. And another one I can't remember. I ended up getting the Lemon Gelato and Strawberry Gelato flavors. They were DELICIOUS !!!!!! The lemon was superb!! You could taste the crisp freshness of the lemon and the strawberry. The waffle cone was sturdy enough to hold the 2 scoops and it was so buttery and yet not too sweet at the very end. I would 100% recommended this place to cure your sweet tooth.
