came for a burger, left with a chicken sandwich! after looking at all the menus at all of the food trucks I went to this one. the chicken sandwich tasted homemade in the best way. The guy working let me know that the pickles were house made. The slaw was very good. I also ordered sweet potato fries, which I typically dont even fw like that but they balance the sweetness from the potatoes with other flavors really well. I’ll probably order the fries well done next time. excellent dinner, grabbed a beer and there was comedy thing going on…very cool vibes!

This was honestly the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. It was sublime. It did not fall apart while being eaten, the chicken was thick but tender, and it was so delicious. The flavor is amazing. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

1st time here and instant favorite this place has incredibly juicy and well executed combos . 10⭐ prob best chicken Sammy have had or just as good as much more expensive sandwiches. Great value, beats the feathers off a Chick-fil-A any day

Austin is full of hidden gems and Las Abuelas is one of them. It is located amongst a smattering of other food trucks so it is easy to overlook. Maybe when you go down to Valentina's and are presented with a two hour wait you'll decide you want to go elsewhere -- and let me suggest Las Abuelas, which is located about a dozen steps away. But, to be honest, it's worth making the trek down south just for it. Fried chicken sandwich Valhalla with a little Tex-Mex twist. The brunch fried chicken sandwich with MEXICAN COKE GLAZED BACON might be the best fried chicken sandwich in Austin right now. Don't sleep on the refreshing hibiscus limeade either.

Easily the best chicken sandwiches I've ever eaten. They are so good that I usually get two! One for dinner, another for the next day.... but I usually end up eating both and hurting my stomach. They're just that good! And the owners are some of the nicest ladies I've ever met. Please give this small business your support. You won't regret it!

Easily one of the best if not the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Amazing combination of ingredients and the chicken breast was cooked so perfectly crispy. The Bandera tots were so delicious as well!

This food truck is parked basically behind Valentinas on Manchaca. There's three of them in a row...and this particular truck is delicious! So glad that my son and I stopped by it today! I had seen pictures of Instagram depicting the chicken sandwiches and couldn't stay away. I ordered the espicy and added avocado. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. He melds all of the spices in really well where it isn't overbearinly hot but has a good kick. The slaw on top was a welcome crunch and relief from the spiciness...and the added avocado was perfect. The bread was also perfect for the type of sandwich that he's making! My son got the el martín because he really wanted to try the coke glazed bacon. It was yummy and sweet. Not for someone who doesn't like sweet and savory together. He inhaled the whole sandwich and was already trying to figure out what he was getting next time we came. We also shared an order of tots and it was way more food than we needed. Will for sure be back and will continue to tell everyone how delicious it was!

So delicious! Sandwiches were crispy and a couple good options. The tots were the best I've ever had - the sauces on top were incredible. I wish the portion sizes were a wee bit bigger but the food was still good regardless. The amount of avocado on my H Town was generous and the queso on top was tasty. This is located in an outdoor food truck park behind lustre Pearl where there is a ton of space - great for kids to run around.

Located in the SoChac District off of Menchaca Road now behind Lustre Pearl South! They serve mexican influenced fried chicken sandwiches, loaded tots & fries. I'm not typically eating fried chicken sandwiches but with theirs it almost feels healthy with the fresh vegetables they use to top their sandwiches. we've tried de lujo | 11 avocado, cotija, tangy slaw, chipotle mayo, roasted serrano crema bandera tots | 5.25 chipotle mayo, cotija, jalapeño crema, tajín hours: w-th 11am-2pm / 5:30-9pm f 11am-3pm / 5:30-10pm sat 11am-10pm sun 11am-7pm I almost feel like their food has improved by this move to Lustre Pearl South. Congrats guys!

I've read so many glowing reviews of this place that I felt let down when the sandwich I finally tried today was just a pretty good fried chicken sandwich. I went for The Original, as I like to go for the unadorned version on my first round. The chicken itself was of modest size, the breading was pleasant but unassertive. The pickled slaw was a nice touch, as was the lime mayo, and the potato roll worked okay as a compromise between gummy brioche and crustier types. But honestly, I've had sandwiches at Popeyes or Golden Chick I liked as much, if not more. And if I'd added some of the optional toppings, it would have still been a pretty good sandwich with extra stuff on it--at a price point where I could have had table service in an air-conditioned restaurant, with a side! If the food here was less expensive, and/or closer to home for me, I *might* explore further, but as it is , I'll leave Las Abuelas to the superfans.

Adding a well deserved 'nother 5 star review for this place! Located among a few other food trucks next to a gas station, there's just a few tables with shade so it was perfect for this hot and sunny day. We got the chicken sandwich special of the day which sounded delicious, and the friendly woman in the truck also recommended the espicy sandwich. Also had to get the tots and some topo chicos. The sandwiches were amazing, the chicken was hot and fresh. I loved the size of them too, not ginormous and trying too hard like some other fried chicken sandwich spots in town!! So glad we finally got to try this spot thats been on our list forever, it's just so far south for us! Would come back in a heartbeat if we were in the area again, I'd love to try the sweet potato fries!

Coworkers told me about this place and since they were headed there for lunch? I thought I'd tag along. The employees were really nice and they have a couple picnic tables with umbrellas so you can eat as soon as you get your food. I got a Fried Chicken Sandwich for myself and a special sandwich with spicy honey, avocado, and pepper Jack cheese for my husband. They were both really good. Please stop by and get one of these filling sandwiches! Also, the coworkers loved the sweet potato fries.

This place has amazing chicken sandwiches. My family was in town visiting and we picked up some for lunch one day. You can easily order in advance for pickup making it an easy process. We tried several flavors and were impressed with everything we tried. The sweet potato fries and tots were both a perfect and unique side options. Highly recommend checking them out!

We tried Las Abuelas for the first time and after finishing my meal, I had to leave a review. I would say it was the best tasting fried chicken sandwich I have ever had! The bun was soft, but sturdy enough to hold the chicken. The chicken was seasoned and fried up perfectly with just enough crunch. I got the Espicy with the added Arbol-Garlic oil, chipotle mayo, tangy slaw and creamy jalapeño salsa. It was perfection and it all blended so well that it was just enough spice, without ruining the whole thing. My wife had the original and she also agreed it was delicious through and through to the last bite. Even the Bandera Tots were delicious, nice and crunchy. Gracias Las Abuelas for serving up such "SABROSURA"!

Everything is SO Y U M M Y ! Absolutely Delicious! I was worried about it being too spicy but it was perfect for me. Don't be scared if it's not the typical Tex-mex type food you're used to. (I'm not a jalapeño or Serrano spicy type eater) Everything has So. Much. Flavor! We enjoy the food trailer scene because we can try different types of foods, sometimes smaller portions, etc. without it being $ or wasteful if we don't enjoy the food. We're trying not to take afternoon naps since it's so hot out & we've not had much of an appetite lately. So for lunch we like to eat light/split a few things. We ordered the Original chicken sandwich - And I know what you're thinking...but NO, not all chicken sandwiches are created equal! It was juicy & had such a nice savory flavor plus the pickled cabbage slaw was the best compliment. I have no idea specifics about the bun but it was really good too. We added avocado because I saw it on another sandwich. We couldn't decide between the fries or tots so we got both! The chipotle mayo & Serrano crema was incredible so forget the ketchup or anything else you think you like to dip- condiments are not needed. Sweet potato fries topped with pumpkin seeds-unforgettable. Just an fyi- they don't have the hibiscus limeade but the Mexican coke was just fine. We will be back! Next time I'm getting my own sandwich-:)

Fried chicken sandwiches with a twist! We got the De Lujo and Espicy with Bandara Tots. Everything was delicious and Matt is such a nice guy. It's a food truck so grab it to go. Will definitely be back!!

I had been wanting to try this place for awhile, but the hours vary and sometimes they aren't open when the hours listed shows open. I was finally able to check it out and ordered the original, it was alright. My favorite part was the tangy slaw which really made the sandwich for me, otherwise, it's just like any other chicken sandwich. I'd definitely recommend the loaded tots, they were amazing! My bf said he'd rate the food a 7 of 10 and I'd have to agree.

I have attempted 3 different times during their posted business hours to try this supposedly delicious place but they have never been open! Their website says "follow us on social media" so yesterday I checked all 3 major sites before heading to the food truck to see if they had any posts about being closed. Nope. So away I went. Guess what? A sign was posted on the truck that they are temporarily closed. If you care about your customers, you could update your website and your social media sites. Is it more difficult for you to make a brief post on your website and/or social media sites that you are closed than it is for a customer to drive all the way over to your place for food and you not be open? Repeatedly?! Apparently it has been days since the truck has been open. I know life throws curve balls and I'm sure you have a very valid reason for not being open but there's no excuse for treating your customers this way. It would only take a minute to make a post that you are not open.

The summer of 2019 has been fraught with social media fueled fried chicken wars and may I request Las Abuelas step into the ring? Las Abuelas has one of the most flavorful fried chicken sandwiches that I've ever had and was thoroughly impressed by the unique combination of flavors. I tried a De Lujo which features a crispy, juicy chicken thigh on a Martin's potato roll, some pickled slaw, cool creamy avocado, serrano crema and chipotle mayo for some kick, onion for some bite, cilantro for some freshness and cojita for some tang. It's a very well constructed well balanced sandwich that tingles the spectrum of your palate. Bandera tots are well fried and also coated with creamy goodness - chipotle mayo, jalepeno crema, cojita and tajin. Very crisp with some funky interplay with the cheese with some slight heat. Caveat though: the food, especially the tots are really heavy (go figure with cheese, crema, mayo, deep fried goodness). You'll definitely want a nap afterwards. It's kinda far away from everything else, so I can't say I'll be back that often, but if I lived anywhere remotely close, I would be digging this joint once a week.

We were in line for Valentina's BBQ... When we decided to try somewhere with less of a line instead. This led us to Las Abuelas - arguably one of the best chicken sandwich spots in town (rivalling the classics: Tumble 22 and Bird Bird Biscuit). Quick service and yummy food. Would recommend getting the El Martin made spicy. This fried chicken sandwich is upgraded with a fried egg and bacon. As a side, we got hummus and pita from the nearby Mediterranean Lebanon food truck (which we hope to hit up next time). Easy parking, nice shaded tables in calm area.

Seriously. This place is insane. This is by far one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I have had, ever. Period. End of statement. What are you doing still reading this. Order. Order now. You're still here? Fine, let's talk about it. The chicken is cooked perfect. Super moist and juicy, wrapped is a warm crispy blanket of awesome. Let's talk bun. Buttery warm fluffy carb magic. The sauce, here to magic everything get to know each other and have a good time. You can have it made a few ways depending on your flavor preferences and spice choices. This place is amazing. Because of all this good stuff they also can sell out. So it's best to aim to head that way shortly after they open and to follow them on Instagram. They open for lunch, close up and then reopen for dinner. So you have two chances of guaranteed greatness each day they're open. So, again I say, what are you waiting for? Go!

I drove up from Kyle just to try their chicken sandwich. I was not disappointed. The line here should be as long as the one at Valentina's next door. Delicious!

Tasty chicken sandwiches! I'm a big Chick Fil A fan, and there's definitely a time and place for that but Las Abuelas hits the spot! Sandwiches are crispy and tender on the inside. We also ordered the sweet potato fries and tater tots which are a little on the heavy side but delicious in their own right. We arrived at 11:30 on a weekday and were the first ones served, very fast. Plenty of parking in the lot with other food trucks.

If you're looking for a local, fried chicken sandwich, you can't go wrong with Las Abuelas. I had a hard time picking which sandwich to go with, but picked the Espicy with some cotija added. I could go with it a touch more spicy, but reading other reviews, looks like you can ask to turn it up a notch. The chicken itself is delicious and one sandwich is good to fill you up, without being a greasy gut-bomb afterwards. I actually tried them awhile a go and now I'm getting a craving just writing this review! Next up to try is the De Lujo - looks delicious

While the chicken sandwiches are fantastic, the real star are the tots and camote fries. If you like sweet potato fries, then this is a must get. Pro tip, you can sub the chicken for fried egg to make it into a vegetarian sandwich

O.M.G... this is the creme de le creme of chicken sandwiches! Seriously, everything about what I ordered was delicious. I got the camote fries and the De Lujo.. Camote fries- I love love love sweet potato fries, so automatically I knew I was going to enjoy this. The twist for me was the pumpkin seeds. I don't actually like pumpkin seeds so I was skeptical if I'd have to pick them off, but nope!! I don't know why, but for the first time ever, I actually enjoyed them! De lujo - juicy chicken with a great crunch ! Love the slaw, I could def eat that on its on. the cojita and avocado was the icing on the cake for me. Honestly, the combination of all the ingredients made for an impecable chicken sandwich. Honestly, forget chick Fil a , Popeyes, or where ever y'all get your chicken sandwich filled now, and COME HERE! Cherry on top is that the guy is incredibly awesome ! This place is every bit as good as it seems. Fresh ingredients, excellent pairings, and absolutely everything appears to be fresh and made-to-order. One thing missing for me is information on sourcing information for their chicken, on their site or elsewhere. that's the only thing holding back a five-star review. You owe it to yourself to give this truck a try, though!

Finding new food adventures in far S. Austin can be a bit like challenging of trying to find the Northwest Passage. O.K., I am being dramatic here, but honestly - trailers and restaurants in the '48 can tease you with their siren's song, but then disappear faster than a sinking ship. My journey to find Las Abuelas started about 3 months back; excited to find them on the Yelp map in my 'hood AND confirmed with mouthwatering pics - I was ready to stake my claim (and boomarked them immediately)! Well, last month, my SNL (and her kids) beat me to it. Drat!! They came. They saw. They conquered. They took pics. She reviewed it on Yelp. She confirmed it. This literally IS the 'New World' of chicken sandwiches. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago: my son Grant and I finally made the journey to Las Abuelas and our first encounter went like this; Me 'Hi, I'm Lee, this is my (hungry) son Grant.' Chef Matt 'Hi, I'm Matt. I'm from the CIA'. Me 'Um, Ok.. (looking perplexed, slowly backs away). Nice to meet you, um...we gotta go....' Well, what he quickly clarified was CIA = the Culinary Institutue of America. The one that offers degreed prorgams from Culinary Arts to Hospitality Management. Sooo.....this is a trained, and very experienced chef slinging chicken sandwiches on SOMA = I'm IN! Buuuut, I digress...so let's talk food. The Camote Fries (we had as a starter) were finger licking good fries - topped with a light Mexican coke & lime glaze, a squeeze of chipotle mayo, a sprinkling of cotija cheese, a few toasted pumpkin seeds, with a few chopped green onions. Simply a great combination without being overly 'saucey'. The Espicy is a ridiculously good mixture of spicy (from Árbol-garlic oil, chiplote mayo, creamy jalapeño salsa) and crispy (1 large, juicy chicken breast) with a touch of cool/crunchy (pickled cabbage slaw + cilantro & onion) - all amply contained in one of Martin's Potato Rolls (yep, its a bun, people). It is my new fave chicken sandwich. As an extra bonus, I REALLY Matt's healthy choices for his patrons 1.) antibiotic free chicken, plus 2.) Martin's Famous Rolls is a bun that contains NO high fructose corn syrup, nor artif. dyes, nor trans fats, nor GMOs. This is good stuff! In the end, I can't wait to go back, take our girls, and explore more of this great menu that Las Abuelas. You should discover it too - before he disappears into the far away land of brick & mortar.

Beware. If you can not handle really hot spicy stuff do not order the spicy chicken sandwich. I thought I could handle the spice but oh boy was I wrong lol. Besides the espicy chicken sandwich being extremely hot, it was really yummy. How can you go wrong with that sweet bun. They fill their sandwich with a hot Chipotle sauce, and a cabbage and carrot coleslaw. After that first initial bite of hot molting lava I was able to eat the whole thing. My taste buds and my stomach were not ready for that initial heat. I also ordered their bandera tater tots. They drizzle some sour cream, crushed pepper, and finish it off with some powdered cheese. It seemed like I was eating a stuffed baked potato which I completely love! For my drink I choose the hibiscus lemonade which really helped me deal with the spiciness of it all. If you love chicken fil-a you definitely have to try this place out. I will definitely come back and try just their regular sandwiches (not spicy) lol.

I came here because some coworkers said it was the best chicken sandwich in Austin! Here's the thing: I'm picky about chicken sandwiches because to me they fall into two camps: chicken that's not in your face chicken-y with fixings that make it, and chicken where the chicken stars. Weirdly enough, I prefer the first kind. And Las Abuelas was definitely the second kind. I got the original and for $8.50 was a bit bummed it didn't come with any sides. The chicken breast was HUGE and juicy and that chicken-y flavor dominated everything. The slaw was a great temperature and texture contrast on top and the lime mayo was pretty subtle. The chicken itself (size, taste, portion) reminded me of a Tumble 22 type style, or even the new Popeye's chicken sandwich style.

I came here with my foodie friend so she could take photos and the gentleman helping us was kind of rude when we told him she was going to photograph some of the food. The food looked delicious (one of the items came out wrong so he had to fix it) and I will say it was good but I personally didn't think there was anything special about it. The spicy sandwich was my favorite because it had the most flavor.

We were on our way to San Antonio from Austin and seeking some food, a quick bite. While the bbq place next door was tempting, this caught our eyes - who can resist a fried chicken sandwich like these pics on yelp!!? So glad that we chose this place. Literally blew all other fried chicken sandwich experiences out of the water. Some might say like a Mexican style Chick-fil-A but I would say, this stands alone in its own level. The chicken was superb- crispy and spicy with the crunch of kfc's extra crispy crisp. The bun was this nice fluffy soft potato roll. The avocado and crime and spicy sauce with the coleslaw put it all together. Get a hibiscus lemonade to wash it down too. So good, I'll be remembering this sandwich for a long time!! And yes, it looks as good as the pictures make it out to be. Oh and there is some picnic bench seating outside, however it was super windy when we came, so we just ate in the car!

Just cluckin perfection let me tell you. I've never had fried chicken sammiches, just never saw the appeal. My boyfriend came home with two and asked if i would help him eat them and now there's no going back. Never. Nope. The bread is so soft, the condiments delicious, the slaw crunchy and tangy and the chicken, so juicy and tender and I love the light breading. This guy knows what's up and I've been converted. If you're looking for a chicken sandwich this is the place to be. We had the bandera tots and they were gone before I could take a picture. So so tasty!

Drove all the way there to find it was closed. Please update this on Google. That's the problem with trailers. They just open and close whenever they want.

The picture of this chicken sandwich on their page had my mouth watering to try their chicken sandwiches. And if you are having a chicken sandwich, it makes sense to get the tots too, right? I ordered the original chicken sandwich with bandiera tots. Both were cooked to order, arriving hot out of the food truck window. The chicken sandwich was well cooked and flavorful, but smaller than the picture on their page and the tots were crispy. Overall a solid meal, that I would order again if I was in the area.

I am as about as anonymous of a yelper as you'll come across in this small corner of the internet where a feedback loop is transcribed to correlate an opinion to an experience from transacted goods or services. While the yelp elite march to the steady drum of notifications from useful, funny, and cool reactions in response to their good humor and the searing logic of their fiery intellect; I, with my comparatively diminutive voice, try to appeal to the owner of a business in a quest to either make it known that the ends justified the means in the case of necessary praise. Or alternatively, to try to bring awareness to my belief that some areas can be improved on if I deem it so. Onto the collective opinion of Yelpkind; Las Abuelas, in case you haven't heard yet, is the 24th highest rated restaurant in the entire Lone Star State. They are, if I may use an analogy here, champions in the heavyweight class. It would probably sway the yelp barometer very little if I merely extoll the virtues of the perfection of their chicken sandwich since not even the venerable Colonel Harland David Sanders was able to achieve this level of taste with his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices. That has already been well established, and I encourage you to try to visit Las Abuelas before the proprietor is as famous as Aaron Franklin as he ascends even further into the pages of chicken delicacy infamy. But I close with my real reason why I am writing this review, beyond experiencing chicken sandwich euphoria weekly at the very minimum. And that is that I would like to make it known that the owner is a genuinely kind soul. This past week, he noticed that I was celebrating my favorite method of expressing my identity; patriotism. In turn, he went out of his way to ask if I was a veteran, and cheerfully gave me a military discount that was not expected but greatly appreciated! You sir, deserve every bit of success that your culinary venture has bestowed upon you. And you will soon again hear my voice on the other end of the line as history repeats itself, "To-go order, 2 De Lujo's, 1 tots, and 1 camote fries". It may seem like a simple order handed off to an anonymous man, but the palatable jubilation that permeates through my taste buds after taking the first bite from your exquisite sandwich will not soon be forgotten.

I'm giving five stars because despite our experience, it was really good. Unfortunately our Postmates driver ended up in Dripping Springs and between pick up/delivery it was about an hour. We were starving so we still ate it, despite it being soggy and cold. That being said, it was still surprisingly awesome. I can't wait to try it again, hopefully fresh this time, and enjoy the magic that is the De Lujo chicken sand which. Spice was on point, mayo was perfect, the slaw was something I I'd eat on its own. Just divine. But next time, hopefully, it's hot.

This is my new favorite food truck! I am mad I waited so long! Friendly service, fast preparedness, and the food is so hot and flavorful. Espicy and tots are my favorite. Oh, I forgot to mention that I claim to not eat fried chicken ;-P

Always a delight, delicious sandwiches. Nice guy does it all by himself and you can call ahead for pick up orders! Get there before they sell out. I always gorget to take a picture of my food cause its so good. The sides are also delicious, camote (sweet potato)fries are the bomb dot com. Also the H-town sandwich is half off the day after the Astros win.

Las Abuelas is a hidden gem just south of Downtown Austin, serving up some fantastic chicken sandwiches and solid sides. During this trip I ordered the De Lujo Sandiwch- espicy (just the right amount of spice in my opinion), camote (sweet potato) fries, and Bandera Tots. All were delicious. The sandwich is freshly fried to order and comes out nice and crispy (although slightly bigger than the bun it comes on) and the toppings compliment each other well (with the pickled cabbage being especially good) bringing a flavor punch to every bite. The sides were good as well, but not quite on the same level as the sandwich, because I didn't feel that the toppings went all the way through to all of the fries/tots. Finally, the service here is amazing!! The owner and operator of the truck made sure my friend and I were well taken care of and went above and beyond in his effort to serve us!
