Good food. Fine fajitas. Nice tart margaritas in a wide variety of options. Comfortable atmosphere. Friendly prompt service. Had a late dinner. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Stopped in with a couple of friends for food & drinks at the bar. It’s a great space to hang out in on a sunny day with the front windows open. Our pitcher of margaritas was delicious, very freshly juiced lime/citrus. Chorizo y papas tacos were awesome, prices are good for portions. I was surprised this place isn’t busier around lunch/brunch on a Saturday; as a result there was not a ton of staff so sometimes service was a little slow, but not a detractor for hanging at the bar with no time pressure on our day.

Friendly staff! Great margaritas! Enjoyed the molcajete but the huevos rancheros was just ok.

Google
Lovely date spot! My partner and I came here on a weeknight for dinner and the staff were so courteous, the food was delicious, and we had a great time! The decorations inside are so intricate, and overall the restaurant has such a fun vibe. Would highly recommend the enchiladas with mole and flautas!

On our way exploring downtown Philadelphia we stumbled upon this restaurant. The ambiance is great and service was good. They had us seated quickly and made sure our food came out fast especially since we had 4 kids with us. As a vegetarian, the menu presented a lot of options and ensured we were super satisfied and full to the brim. The vegetarian tostada was amazing. In addition their house made guacamole and hot salsa were really good too. Kids enjoyed their quesadillas and the enchilada was okay (could have been better). Overall very happy with the spot and would recommend.

Google
LOVE this authentic latin restaurant in the heart of old City Philadelphia! Great happy hour, consistently delicious food. Great drinks. Everything is very fresh, even the lime juice for the margaritas is hand pressed. Great happy hour menu.

Google
The mole enchiladas and brisket enchiladas were both good. The chips and salsa and guac were not worth it so I wouldn’t recommend.

Google
I have been purchasing tacos here for Taco Tuesday almost every week for a year until the past few months where I’ve encountered insane inconsistencies in menu options- one week brisket is offered, one week it’s not, the next week the store is randomly closed when I go to order, etc. Now to call today to give the place yet another try because I love the staff and the environment, only to be told that they no longer offer Taco Tuesday to go. I loved this place, it was a staple in my life and a favorite part of my weekly routine, but the lack of consistency and ease is just not it. The staff are amazing, the food is superb- management really needs to do better. I’ll be going somewhere else unfortunately that can offer a consistent experience.

Yelp
I love the decor and energy in this place. We were seated immediately. Our server was helpful and very nice. The bartender is skilled! I had a Paloma and my husband had an old fashioned, both were delicious! We split a shrimp salad that was a special that day and it was very tasty. My daughter enjoyed an order of churros and hot cocoa, cleaned her plate. I would return if in the area again.

Yelp
Delicious nachos alert!! All the makings of a great plate - queso that was oh so stringy and savory, pico that added the right amount of freshness, and pickled jalapenos for that much needed kick. Topped with the most tender steak thats been seared well before cutting. Cannot go wrong with getting these. If you still have a lil room in your stomach after, come here on a tuesday to get $3 all day - while they aren't gonna knock your socks off, whatever meat you get will be well cooked, and their house habanero salsa (that you have to ask for) saves everything.

Yelp
Always a treat to dine at Bugambilias! Service was fabulous, Thank you Norma!! Omelet was delicious, food was on point as usual!!

Yelp
We were the only table at noon on Super Bowl Sunday! Our hostess was our waitress who also made our drinks. And she was fabulous. Great colorful decor and the food was fantastic. I loved my brunch plate w/scrambled eggs, chicken entombata (like enchiladas) and mini pancakes (banana blueberry) plus the orange spiced coffee was tasty and different. I'll come back to try the Mexican ice cream and other deserts.
google avatar

Komal R.

Yelp
Delicious, filling Tamales! Mexican hot chocolate is thick, creamy and made upon order. It only has a slight hint of spices so perfect for kids or people who cannot handle spicy food.

Yelp
I had a nice summer brunch at Las Bugambilias with a local friend while visiting Philly. The visit had a mildly rocky start, in that we arrived at 10:30 am on a Saturday with posted hours on their door and online listed as opening at 10 am, but we were turned away due to their opening time really being 11 am. It was a strange interaction, especially since they had their door propped open. We went elsewhere but opted to return once they were truly open for the day. We had our pick of tables inside or out, so we opted to sit inside but right next to the outdoor area. We had a nice breeze without being too hot. It was a great choice. Our server was kind. I ordered the mocha to start, and the presentation was pretty. The drink was tasty also. For my meal, I ordered the Torta Espinaca and subbed a side salad instead of potatoes. The salad wasn't dressed and ended up just being lettuce mixed with tomatoes and peppers, which was kind of strange, but the sandwich more than made up for it. I could barely even finish one half of it. The size was huge and the flavor was amazing. I'd definitely recommend it! So all in all, had some hiccups here but they redeemed themselves with delightful food and a nice atmosphere.

Yelp
A great neighborhood spot for Mexican food, especially if you are craving tacos! Atmosphere: I love the vibe of the restaurant, how colorful both the interior and exterior are, and how quick the service was! Food: I found everything we ordered to be very flavorful and taste fresh. We started off with guacamole and chips, which was a great appetizer to kick off our meal. My only qualm is that I found the prices to be higher than other taco spots I have been to in the city (for the tacos and the guac). Overall: 4/5 - I would like to go back, but may want to try other Mexican spots in the city first, especially because Philly has so many good ones!

Yelp
We've gone twice to Las Bugambilias and I'd go again! The restaurant is very clean! The service has always been very good. The food is terrific and very fresh. The Mole sauce is really a wonderful deep flavor you know took hours to produce ! Looking forward to our next visit and finding other gems on the menu!

Yelp
My husband got the steak tacos, I got grilled chicken with rice and cheese, and our daughter got grilled chicken tacos and she ordered a rice too. It was a lovely lunch. It was delicious! They don't have a changing table in the restrooms if you have kids in diapers. We have a 6 month old who needed changed and we had to change him on unsteady blocks. It made do, but there really should be a changing table. Service was fine overall and friendly. Ambiance is Mexican - colorful, musical, and a fun and inviting atmosphere.

Yelp
Great food and service. Drink is alright. Definitely on the pricey side but I guess it's normalized to Philly cost

Yelp
Why did you remove the two best things on your menu? Camarones Rellenos have vanished off the menu in the middle of last year. Being the thing I kept coming back for, both dine-in and take-out, I am very sad. A friend who has been there with me visited again and his favorite the Pollo Rellenos is also gone.

Yelp
Alex was our wonderful server. I really felt so well taken care of . He gave such lovely recommendations . I ordered the caldo chicken avocado soup.. It tasted so great... Felt like I was in someone's home in cuernavaca enjoying such a wonderful meal. My friends enjoyed there meals as well. A delightful time and the staff was so accommodating The ambience-artwork and seating so relaxing and inviting. So delightful and colorful. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
We have visited this place twice during out visits to old city and both times we had a terrible experience. Last time ee'd been visiting some highlights of Philly and wanted some drinks and quick meal. Our waiter was John. The restaurant was almost empty but John didn't seem to be happy to have a table ordering only cocktails and some snacks to start. Despite the fact that place was almost empty it took him 20 minutes to get us a round drinks and chips. We placed and order for dinner and waited almost 45 minutes, finally gave up and asked for the manager. Shift manager assured us that kitchen was backed up but our food would be out shortly. After spending almost hour we asked for our food again only to find out that John had forgot to put in our order!!! Manager came by again to apologize and told us we'd have our entrees in few minutes. Well they did manage to rush the food out but ended up giving us the wrong order!!! After spending almost hour and half at this place we ended up just eating the wrong order they got it out and for us and left. The taste of the food wasn't to die for. Service was horrible. Honestly wouldn't recommend and definitely not coming back. There's nothing authentic about it, definitely not what I expected.

Yelp
I went for lunch during Restaurant week. Upon entering, there was no greeting or anyone acknowledging we'd arrived. The service was incredibly slow (and the restaurant was nowhere near full). Even getting water was a challenge. (We finally got up and found a pitcher for ourselves.) The soup offering for lunch (Crema Poblana) was very good; however, the Carlos's Mole Enchiladas were mediocre at best. I'd never been there before, but I cannot say I'd be in a hurry to return.

Yelp
Holy "mole" that was good! Las Bugambilias has been one of my favorite Mexican spots in the city for its giant drinks and massive meals! Our server Norma was attentive, patient and sweet. We (unknowingly) went while there was a massive "mimosa crawl" and Norma kept checking on us despite the chaos! The mole sauce was delicious--creamy, rich and chocolatey--everything a good mole sauce should be. The refried beans, rice and.m lettuce were great accompaniments! They also have a bottomless mimosa deal until 3pm and brunch specials, so there's something for everyone! What we got: - mangonadas ($14) - enchiladas con carlos's mole ($24) - salmon torta ($24)
google avatar

Yelp
excellent tender shrimp tacos, creamy refried black beans. tasty sopa. we forgot about this place and glad we remembered to come back!

Yelp
Mexican is my favorite type of food and I've had fajitas all over the US, Mexico, and even Europe. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that doesn't provide complimentary chips. Also my fajitas were $30 and this is what I got. No salsa, no shredded cheese, weird dried out beans and a teeny bit of guac. Also, I asked for no green peppers but it also came with no onions. It tasted OK, but I do not recommend when there are so many other fabulous restaurants in Philly.

Kellen A.

Yelp
Tried the birria tacos (excellent), Al pastor tacos (excellent), and. molcajete mixto (excellent). Everything was so hot and fresh I loved it. Washed it down with some margarita pitchers. Next thing you know 3 hours passed. Good service, and super cool spot in Old City. Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Holiday dinner. Very good drinks. Service was excellent. Ambiance fun colorful with a hint of Holiday charm.

Tamika B.

Yelp
Dined in solo dolo at Las Bugambilias and the atmosphere was fine for a weekday dinner. Walked in and was seated immediately. Requested a mocktail which was okay. Ordered tortilla chips and salsa, that was meh. I tried their camaron (shrimp) tacos; which I wasn't impressed and not enough flavor. Perhaps Las Bugambilias other menu options are better than the food I tried.
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
This place was really cute! The holiday decorations were so festive. Our server was also very kind. Everyone enjoyed their food, I'd say it's just a bit on the pricer side, but definitely tasty.

Mia P.

Yelp
This has always been a reliable positive dining experience - both takeout and eating in, but this last visit was just a little strange - the food was nowhere near as good as usual - as someone else said, the fajitas were confusing - just give me quality ingredients and I can make my own. The flour tortillas (3) already had cheese melted in them (?) and the beans were dry as were the chicken and beef. Peppers were undercooked. I really like this place and hope it will get back to where it was re: quality of food.
google avatar

Jo L.

Yelp
Nachos ($15) was different with black bean salsa. We enjoyed this. Chips were not too salty which is typically an issue for me. We also got a bunch of tacos that were all enjoyable: - Al Pastor - Deshabrada - Steak - Shrimp - Zeta Enchilada Carlo's Mole ($22) chicken with mole poblano and queso Chihuahua came out nice and hot. We felt it was quite pricey but overall, we enjoyed the meal.

Yelp
I came here with some friends. The restaurant has a variety of food and drinks. We were seated in a timely manner, but after that, everything was very slow and chaotic. Our drinks didn't come until the entrees arrived. Half of the appetizer came late and was missing the tortillas. The food was just okay. The guacamole was really small and didn't come with enough chips for it and the salsa. I had the mushroom tacos, which could use more flavor. The tres leches de coco cake was dry. I prefer a regular tres leches cake without the coconut flakes. The flan texture was not smooth. It was too spongy and had holes all over. Overall, we had a good time because of the company. I don't know if I would come back because the service was lacking and food was just okay. P.S. I love the art work and decor.
google avatar

Yelp
This is very tasty authentic Mexican food with a flair. The menu has many offerings for different tastes. The service is timely and efficient and the restaurant has a nice feel, not too noisy not too quiet. This is not your standard fare, checkout the menu and see the amazing selection and look at the food photos. We had the Mojcalito in the mortar bowl and it came out sizzling hot. I had the mixed with steak, chicken and juicy plump prawns. The meat was grilled nicely. You will have leftovers to bring home and enjoy again.
google avatar

San R.

Yelp
Pork was tender, great taste in combination with the plantains. Lots of meat serving portion. Rice and beans serving is small, but for me it was perfect portion.
google avatar

Lotsa B.

Yelp
Great service and great food. Ceviche mixto was just slightly on the sweet side. The queso fundido was that perfect cheesy greasy treat that you know is bad for you but you don't care. This place gets busy but is well worth the wait!
google avatar

Ruth D.

Yelp
Cute, chill, yet nice ambiance at Las Bugambilias. They have a vast menu of both food and drinks. To drink, I has the bugambilias margarita which comes in 12 different flavors. I got Passionfruit for my first and Watermelon for my second. I enjoyed them both. For food, I got the guacamole which was fresh and tasty. The tortilla chips were so good. I also got ceviche mixto and a side order of one taco al pastor. It was perfect array of items that I enjoyed thoroughly. I would be happy to come back and eat here.
google avatar

Bianca F.

Yelp
I'd say this place is just alright. My sister & I stopped in for brunch/lunch and while we enjoyed our meals, there wasn't anything particularly memorable about our dishes. She got the tilapia tacos and I ordered the chilaquiles. Both of us felt that our dishes were just fine but lacking in any real flavor. They weren't bad at all- they just weren't that good either. I did enjoy the vibes and the staff was all friendly so I would go back and try something else.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
I dined with a guest for lunch. Let's start with the positive. The ambiance is off a typical Mexican restaurant. The service is average. The food, I do not recommend. I ordered for my entree the Ensalada Mexicana. The menu stated that it is "romaine with grilled chicken, tomato, avocado, onion, queso fresco and tortilla croutons with creamy guajillo-chipotle dressing." The chicken was just over 1/8 of a pound- barely enough for a child. Tomato, avocado, and onion were 3 small slices each. There was no queso fresco. They held back on the dressing and tortilla croutons because I specified it needed to be gluten free- not an opportunity to feed me like a rabbit. My guest ordered the Quesadilla Huitlacoche, which consists of two flour tortilla quesadillas stuffed with corn, sautéed mushrooms, huitlacoche and queso Chihuahua. My guest ate two bites, and didn't tell me until after we left that the quesadilla was awful. That's an embarrassment. I specified clearly to the bartender who was waiting on us to please let me know if there was gluten in anything we're ordering. The chips with the salsa, as well as the chips for the guacamole weren't gluten free, and were cross contaminated at best. To spend the afternoon in pain because of ineptitude is unacceptable. I have yet to contact the restaurant- but, I will. I hope the restaurant corrects what was done, as the picture of the dish provided by the restaurant is deceptive. I would've rather gone without lunch, and donated the money wasted. Based upon my experience, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. There's far too many excellent Mexican restaurants in Philadelphia- and this isn't one of them!
google avatar

Renae D.

Yelp
We personally loved this place. The atmosphere was good, the music, lighting & decor. Everyone was friendly. We felt very welcomed. Our waitress was very patient and very helpful. She suggested a few of the menu items and she assured us we would have no regrets. She was exactly right! In our experience this isn't your typical every day Quick Mexican style restaurant. This is authentic. The flavors were unique to us and we wouldn't have changed a thing. I got the Molcajete Carnes but I chose the mixto with steak, chicken & shrimp. Absolutely delicious. It came with handmade tortillas on the side, rice and refried black beans that were so good! My husband doesn't usually like beans and he loved these. He went way out of his comfort zone ordering the Apollo Relleno and there wasn't a bite left. The bacon was crispy, the filling was perfect and the overall flavor was just really good. Hope you give this place a try. We couldn't recommend our entrees more.
google avatar

Shanel S.

Yelp
Truly just OK. My fiancé wondered if chips and salsa were complementary as all the other tables got them, but we never asked. We each had a tostada.. cerviche and chicken. Just bland. No flavor, spice or umpf. The drinks... I believe it was incelo. Mezcal drink. You see two pics because the first was weak... maybe the second was a different bartender but delicious. Truly the only reason I could think of coming back. Happy hour is short. Ends at 6p. So go then to sample if you dare and not pay a lot. The churros.... The whole reason I wanted to go.. just horrible. Don't waste your calories on these doughy squishy... idk. Just don't. The Mexican chocolate was delicious. We won't return. Too many other good spots in the city. Restaurant was busy so maybe we just don't know what to order but we won't try it again to save money calories and reserve tastebuds for deliciousness elsewhere.

Sherelle L.

Yelp
Over priced Mexican food. Drinks: Two people in my party got margaritas. The menu stated the price and then flavors, but did not mention that getting a flavored margarita adds an additional $5. They is crazy to me for just a flavor! Food: the guacamole and chips were good! The chips were fresh and crispy. I got the tacos for my meal which came with 3 street tacos. I just don't think the amount of food was appropriate for the price. Service: Our server was great! This place doesn't split bills, so be aware if going in a large group. Would I go back... no, there is better out there at a better price .

Heaven H.

Yelp
First of all your name is impossible to pronounce and even easier to forget. I signed up for a ball crawl with my beautiful queens and the hostess said because of their previous reservations the bar was full. This was nasty. I paid for this crawl. Maybe don't accept outside reservations if you've signed up to be on a bar crawl. Thanks for nothing Sincerely, Unsatisfied customer

Yelp
Las Bugambilias was such an amazing place to eat and relax. The place was so nicely decorated for the holidays and it was clear they take a lot of pride in their presentation. The service was outstanding and the food was incredible. Everything tastes fresh and homemade. Even the sour cream we got as a side tasted like they made it in the back. An amazing breakfast altogether. We will definitely be coming back here again!

Yelp
Probably the best Mexican restaurant in Philadelphia. Pork tacos to die for. The original margarita is just so awesome (and huge). Service was awesome. Highly recommend for its originality.

Yelp
Great food, excellent chips, guac and loved the mellow atmosphere. Service was wonderful!

Yelp
Yummy Mexican food for an affordable price! We found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. The service was amazing and the food was delicious as well! It had a good mix of options for people who may be more (or less) adventurous in their food choices. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
A Mexican restaurant owned by Russians We arrived early on a Sunday morning, decoration is beautiful. Food is almost authentic, they have made some new combinations, unfortunately nothing is spicy (and there are no options to make it spicy). My suggestion is to visit the place!
google avatar

Ade B.

Yelp
Stopped here one night for dinner with a friend on a whim and had a wonderful meal. As soon as you walk in the décor screams Mexico, so there is no way to be confused as the type of restaurant you are in. We started the meal with nachos and margaritas. Thankfully the waiter warned us that one of the salsas was very spicy. Our waiter provided outstanding service the entire night. We tried the spicy salsa, but stuck with the milder salsa after that. The meal was off to a good start with tasty nachos and sweet margaritas. For my entrée I had an enchilada. It was covered with cheese just like I like it. It was so good, definitely one of the top ones I've had. My friend was willing to share, so I also had some of her entrée, which was camarones rellenos. The description reads "bacon wrapped fried jumbo shrimp, crabmeat queso crema, bacon wrapped Salsa De Chile Guajillo y Tomate". I don't know what all that means, but it was a delicious entrée unlike anything I've tasted before. Unique tasty dishes like that put a restaurant on the road to a five star review. For dessert we had the flan. It was just OK. The tres leches cake would probably have been a better choice. Las Bugambilias is a welcome addition to Old City. It shouldn't have taken me so long to try this restaurant since I live close by. I will right that wrong by going back any time I'm craving Mexican. At minimum I need to try the tacos and the tres leches cake!
google avatar

Jonathan F.

Yelp
Let's taco 'bout it! Delicious and authentic Mexican food prepared with fresh ingredients combined with warm and hospitable service. Bonus points for nailing the Chilaquiles Verdes. One of the best I've had.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
This place was fantastic and a pleasant surprise when visiting. Extremely good service from everyone that worked there. They were very accommodating with the menu making some customizations to accommodate my kids. The food tasted great and the margaritas were very good too.
google avatar

Vichet O.

Yelp
Las Bugambilias is legit. Word to the wise: everything here is sharing size, even if I'm not sure they meant it to be that way. I'm a big boy, and my lady and I couldn't get through all of the molcajete mixto between the two of us. It was basically a full chicken breast, 4 ounces or so of skirt steak, 4 ounces of queso blanco, a couple large shrimp, nopales, and some sizzling veggies in a volcano-hot stone bowl, with side plate of Mexican rice, refried beans, and guac, along with a stack of their homemade corn tortillas. This was more than enough food to split between two hungry people who like food. But when we ordered we're thinking "Oh, this is old city, prices are high and portions are small, right?" And that's why we went home with a box of nearly untouched grilled veggies in a huitlacoche salsa... which was also delicious in the two bites of it that I could fit in my stomach. Also I'm pretty sure the margarita pitchers are a gallon and change. For $55 you get a vat that looks like the Kool-Aid man. Enough for 8 people and some refills. Fun night. I'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Great Mexican food with the right type of atmosphere and food quality Go with friends and enjoy the margaritas with the taco selection Keep it simple with the tacos but try the different sauces to diversify the flavor and experience
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
Bland and Mexican, two words that don't go together -- yet here they do. The guac/chips starter fed 4 plus leftovers. Si, ripe avocado but donde el zingo? Chips like pita chips, not south of the border. Tacos were cute but plain. Chile rellenos were strange. No Mexican flavors to be found. Those with margaritas (birdbath size) seemed to enjoy their commidas more!

shayneea f.

Yelp
Not being from the area, I had been on the search for good Mexican food. A friend of mind recommended this restaurant. And upon my first bite, the thought "it tastes like home" came to mind. Definitely will go back.
google avatar

Andres A.

Yelp
As we walked the streets oh Philadelphia we got a bit hungry and came across this spot. It was apple lunch time so we did not want a big meal so instead I ordered the chicken quesadillas and my girlfriend had the chicken nachos. The chicken quesadillas were delicious. The tortilla was perfectly charred and the cheese and chicken was absolutely delicious. My girlfriends nachos were just as flavorful and top our surprise the nachos were perfectly crisp. No soggy chips at all, even the ones in the bottom covered by all the greasy stuff. The service was quick and attentive. We loved the place.

Ileana M.

Yelp
First time visiting Philly from California. A group of us were looking for a place to have a nice dinner and we found this little gem! It was so chill, the music went perfect with the theme, not too loud, just perfect enough to sing along and still have a nice conversation without having to raise your voice. Their whole staff was amazing and our server gave us above and beyond service. Their molcajete was great and the mole enchiladas were delicious! Totally check it out if you're in the area.

Laura F.

Yelp
As a long time food server I am usually understanding about servers who are new or really busy. Our server seemed new and probably could use some more hands on training. Our drinks didn't come until after we got our food. He was very apologetic but didn't seem too concerned about fixing the problem. We got our appetizers but the soup came with the meal. He never asked what order we wanted it in. We asked for more pico de gallo but he never brought it; he finally asked if we still wanted it but we had already finished eating. I asked for no lettuce on my tostada (which he seemed to write down) but I got lettuce. The tostada was bland and the chicken was dry, as was the chicken in the enchiladas that my friend had. If you're going to charge $15-17 for a cocktail, maybe get your bartenders moving a bit more quickly.
