Food is great! I found them by luck. I have a presentation for Spanish class, and want to share Nicaraguan food with my class. I was planning to go to a restaurant around the corner. I hit a speed bump when my boss simply expected me to cover another coworker's shift without speaking with me first. I didn't get off my 12 hour shift until 8. In OC. While they're in like South Gate. A 40 minute drive. I sped to get to the original restaurant that stated it closed at 9 pm. They were locked up and gone by the time I made it at 8:37. Freaking out because I really felt that Nicaraguan food would really be the icing to this presentation, I looked at Google maps again, and saw Las Segovias was right around the corner. They were closing for the night, and I literally begged for any food they had prepared and hadn't thrown out. Instead, they invited me in, and cooked me, what I hope was a simple dish of gallo pinto and these like, fried cheese blocks! I am SO grateful to them! I'm going to be sure to share the restaurant to my class when sharing their delicious food!

Food here is really good. Been here three times already and I haven't been disappointed. Complimentary plantain chips with every order. I would recommend the churrasco with chimmichurri or the Pollo a la Plancha. Authentic cuisine, homey atmosphere, and very affordable prices. Only reason I'm giving this place a 4 instead of a 5 is that some of the food, particularly the rice and beans aren't fresh.

Terrible..!! Minus two stars. lousiest Buñuelos I've ever tasted. Since it's a traditional desert made of Yuca and a sweet concoction of brown sugar honey mixed with camela, clavos de olor and other ingredients sweetening the boiled Yucca patties in Nicaragua mostly during Holy Week celebrations it seemed an insult to see the delicate dessert to be overly refried as if they were simple Meat balls devoid of flavor, beauty and elegance. They served 3 devil black balls which were horrendous to look at and definitely not edible.

10/10 best Nicaraguan food. It makes you feel like you are en tu tierra again. The service is chef kiss 🤌

The food is delicious! Nicaraguan homemade comfort food. Small, hole in the wall type of restaurant but it feels cozy. Everything from the drinks and the food are delicious and authentic. It's a bit pricey, $20 per plate, but if you're in the mood for Nicaraguan cuisine and in the neighborhood, it's a good place to try. Street parking is plenty.

Very good restaurant, chimichurri steak is really good!

Las Segovias is the spot for hearty Nicaraguan cooking. Remember to show up hungry. The walls are adorned with colorful murals of Nicaraguan cities and landscapes. The counter sells various goods and clothing. Costillas de cerdo frito: The pork ribs are sliced horizontally so there are round sections of bone in the long strips of crispy flavorful meat. Gallo pinto is at the core of the plate with red beans and rice cooked together with onions. The rice is firm and buttery. The beans are tender. You can also have them served separately. The fried plantains are sweet and caramelized on the outside with soft centers. The rest of the plate seems covered in a hill of crispy thin plantain chips. There's a triangle of fried cheese - tart, firm, and crumbly. Take the pitcher on the table and pour out some of the hot sauce. It is packed with diced pickled onions with a vinegary sauce. Nacatamales: This giant tamal is a breakfast staple typically served with a caffeinated beverage (like coffee or Coke). After unwrapping the banana leaf wrapper, the masa has an orange tint from the achiote paste. The masa is moist, soft, and gooey. Embedded in the huge masa is a grocery list of ingredients, including olives, bell peppers, rice, pork, onions, raisins, tomatoes, and potatoes. It also comes with a big soft fluffy bread roll. Parking: There is street parking.

Don't walk, CORRER!! We were celebrating two birthdays and wanted a great Nicaragua dinner. We normally head out to Gallo Pinto in Azuza. But we wanted to try something closer to us from Peter Rivera, so we found las Segovia in Huntington Park. What an extraordinary Diamond in the rough dinner it was. Everything was exceptional. My mom enjoyed Vibaron (a type of Chicharon salad meal.) I had what had to be one of the best tongue ( Lengua) dishes I have had in many many years. Served in a beautiful tomato, onion sauce, separately from the plate which had.gallo pinto, maduros, and platanos fritos. My wife and brother enjoyed the steak and chicken. And my brother had the chorizo which was hands-down, the best so we've had and all of the restaurants, whether Mexican, or other, these dishes were awesome! Can't do much about the location. Funky, funky and makes you question "where the hell is this place at again?" It's a fabulous restaurant. I recommend you tell your friends and anybody else who would like to try a great authentic central, American, Nicaraguan, or similar dinner, go here! The bathroom is super tiny, so make sure you go to the bathroom before you go. And parking is street only. And once you're inside, be ready for a filling, super well prepared, generous portion dinner. The service was awesome as well. The daughter is taking care of the tables while the mom and Restaurant is in the back with the shaft, preparing the meals. You can't get any more authentic than that. Run don't walk to your next best meal in Los Angeles!

This place feels like a hidden gem. At least to me. But know that it also has the vibe of a neighborhood favorite as the place was pretty busy when I was there. I'm just not in this area very often nor do I eat at Nicaraguan restaurants often. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even tell you where there was another Nicaraguan restaurant in the city off the top of my head. So I was really excited to try this place. The menu is pretty extensive for such a small room - this place feels family owned and operated. Since I love tamales, I knew I was gonna at least order a nacatamal - a brick sized tamal with a blend of pork, tomatoes, potatoes, chilis, achiote, and herbs. I mean this bite is seriously right up my alley of the types of foods I love. So flavorful. I could eat these everyday. I could've been happy with just this, but I also ordered the Indio viejo - a thick and hearty stew made with shredded meat, onions, garlic, herbs, maize (similar ingredients to the nacatamal). Yep, I was a huge fan of this as well. I probably ordered too much food, but I didn't mind having leftovers. I washed this all down with their crushed cacao drink. It was like a horchata, but tasted more like chocolate milk. Really tasty and refreshing. Parking was tricky. I can't remember if you can park on the street or not. The streets in the area are pretty tight. I ended up parking at a lot a block or two away.

Well this place is small but great. Great service very nice. They also have a table In the back outside and 2 hamacas also. It does get a little warm inside that's my only complaint. But I'll deal with that because the service was great and the food hit just right yesssss. My fritanga was delicious gallo pinto was awesome tasty the salad the tajadas Maduro all of it was awesome. I loved it I recommend this restaurant. If you Google them you will get they're correct phone number. Yelp has a disconnected number FYI. The cacao was so good and the quesillo with the chilero wow. Definitely Definitely going back.very satisfied and happy.

Este lugar tenia una comida muy deliciosa cuando estaba doña Daisy pero, lo vendió y lo nuevos dueños creo que no son nicaragüenses porque no tienen ni idea de lo que es el sabor Nicaraguense,ni la ensalada de repollo saben hacer, cero sabor, le dan una libra de gallo pinto y cuatro onzas de carne ,terrible, sin sabor, las enchiladas, parecen recalentadas,bien duras, y carísima por una carne asada y un cacao pequeño $32 la verdad que es un insulto a la gastronomía nicaragüense, es tan deliciosa nuestra comida. no saben hacer ni un gallo pinto y aquí vienen a poner restaurantes...si quieren gastar y que no les pese ,les recomiendo 1000% Portobancos, muy buena atención, limpio, y auténtico sabor nicaragüense. muy decepcionada de este lugar, gastar mi dinero en algo que no sirve la verdad duele y da cólera.

If I could leave no stars I would. Such a disappointment. First, immediately thrown off by the portion sizes, for $21 bucks a plate it was very scarce. Then we found a hair in our tajadas. It just kept getting worse when immediately after my husband found crumbled rock pieces cooked into the gallo pinto. We drove 40 min. Round trip to eat here only to have to drive another 40 min because we absolutely came back. I asked to speak to the manager or owner and a lady at the front told me they weren't available. I explained to her the poor food quality and instead of being concerned or apologetic she simply started calculating what she could give me back as a refund. Such bad service. On top of that the food was not even good in taste. I know good Nica food and this is not it. Not a hole in the wall worth trying. Si pudiera no dejar estrellas, lo haría. Qué decepción. Primero, inmediatamente desconcertado por el tamaño de las porciones, por $ 21 dólares el plato era muy escaso. Luego encontramos un pelo en nuestras tajadas. La situación siguió empeorando cuando, inmediatamente después, mi marido encontró trozos de roca desmenuzada cocinados en el gallo pinto. Condujimos 40 min. Viaje de ida y vuelta para comer aquí solo para tener que conducir otros 40 minutos porque definitivamente regresamos. Pedí hablar con el gerente o el propietario y una señora en el frente me dijo que no estaban disponibles. Le expliqué la mala calidad de la comida y en lugar de preocuparse o disculparse, simplemente empezó a calcular lo que podría devolverme como reembolso. Qué mal servicio. Además de eso, la comida ni siquiera tenía buen sabor. Conozco buena comida Nica y esta no lo es.

en primer lugar no me gusta xq es un lugar muy sucio son bien cohinas las mujeres s eles ve hasta en la ropa andan todas sucias mechudas luego el bote de basura hasta el tope sercas de donde preparan los alimentos la ensalda tiene demasiado vinagre luego el baño siempre esta un asco y tapado las señoras andan ahi como en un mercado son cochinas deveras ahi andan comiendo adentro y es cross contamination no deben de hacer eso la comida mal servida te dan un tuquito de carne con una libra de gallo pinto q por cierto no es rico para nada no volvere ir ahi prefiero el restaurante q esta a la vuelta de ahi se llama restaurante managua ahi el senor es limpio se ve desde la entrda q son limpios y la comida la carne por dios ahi si la hacen riquisima y te sirven demasiada comida pero segovias es un asco

Extremely bad food. The banana chips they make them once a week and they tasted stale. The cheese was really hard and tasted like it was old. Unfortunately it was a really bad experience. The place was not clean at all and they sell clothing right next to where the kitchen is at. they say that quesillos are freshly made, well let me tell you that they are not. Tortilla was cold and not eatable. I will never go back to this restaurant. We bought two salpicón, two quesillos and two drinks and it came out to be $89.78 FYI: plates were really small. Total scam

I came here while I'm LA and someone I know (Nicaraguan) recommended this place. Wow! Never will I listen to this persons recommendations. The fact that it was empty on a Saturday afternoon should've been a red flag. DISAPPOINTED!! Location: The area is sketch and there's no parking. Like your car might get broken into if you don't park on a main street. Service: The cook (could be the owner too, not sure but she was attentive) was nice and made sure the waitress took (Waitress took our order wrong because she didn't want to write it down). Ambiance: It was outdated and needs a deep cleaning along with repairs. Ceiling had a gaping hole that needs to be repaired, the windows need cleaning and menus can use a wipe down. Food: Gallo pinto was greasy and rice was mushy. Cabbage salad was tasteless, they added no seasoning or vinegar or lemon. Pork tasted microwaved and spoiled, onion steak was more a tomato steak. Cacao was slightly off, I couldn't figure out what was odd about it. The food looked good but was no Only upside about this is that no one got sick (thank goodness) because that would've been the end of our day. Sucks to write a bad review but $100 is a lot of money to spend on a meal that lacks everything from freshness to taste. Full disclosure, my in-laws are Nicaraguan so I know what the food should taste like.

REAL NICA FOOD!!! Went to this place looking for authentic nicaragüense food and this place has it. It isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. We walked in the restaurant and right away we were greeted. The guys were nice and attentive. You walk inside and you get all the nice art painted on the walls. We got a parrillada for 2 and we fed our family of 5 with some to take home. We got a pitaya and cacao to drink. Both drinks were large and unlike some other places they actually filled the cup with the drink instead of a bunch of ice. I recommend this to anyone looking for real NICA FOOD!!!

Came to this hole in the wall hoping for the best since good Nicaraguan food places are hard to find. As we walked in we were told they only did takeout. Ok, totally understand. As I began to order a group of 6+ people came in and were told to sit anywhere they would like. Woman came from behind the counter and arranged the tables for them. There seemed to be a few take out orders on the table ready to be picked up and they were making more food. I was going to order for 3 people but I stopped myself and just ordered a 1, carne asada and a cacao. I felt a little disappointed so I didn't order anything else. Surprisingly enough the food was done in minutes the woman at the counter then asked if we were going to eat in. I reminded her that she had said that we could not. She said it was because they were going to close, it was 5 pm and they normally close at 9. Another person came in and sat at the last table available. The woman then said, "It is a good thing you ordered to go." I was then charged but it seemed that the carne asada plate was $3 more than the menu price. I didn't question it since I already felt bummed. They also handed me a Milca soda. I told her I hadn't ordered it so she took it back. I asked her if she had changed me for it and she said yes, $26.83 for the 3 items (carne asada, cacao and a Milca). I asked her if I could have back since I paid for it. She gave it back me. We hoped the food would overshadow the experience but I was consistent with it. The meat was not seasoned at all. The queso frito was chewy and the Gallo pinto was also bland. Shame. Next time we are in the area we will try the other Nica restaurant around the corner El Managuita. I hope anyone else that tries this place has a better experience than we did. Wish them the best.

I'm giving this place 2 stars. Only because the food is good. If you are looking to try it go for dine in please. Take out always takes over an hour done it twice thinking they were just busy. Says 25 minutes and I'm there waiting an extra 30-50 minutes! Also lady on phone is hard to order as she's just like yeah yeah yeah lol But dine in is preferred if you decide!

The food was good but I've had better and it was very expensive! The only reason I'm writing this review is because of the prices. I bought one plate and a couple nacatamales, my total was almost $70, and I have definitely had better nicaraguense food for a fraction of that price. I checked yelp before going and had a guesstimated price tag on my total and they at least doubled it and also don't have menus available (likely because of huge price changes) Woman by the grill had her mask halfway off most of the time, there were three people in the empty building and it took several minutes before one spoke to me. (Honestly, I'm used to that hesitation as a black American in Spanish speaking establishments though, it's not personal) Anyway to sum it up, they were friendly, not friendly enough for people who silently double their prices and don't have a menu available so you don't know until after you order, and their food isn't worth how high the price is for sure. Also, the mask down while making my food worries me a bit. It was good, but not $70 good and I won't be back for that reason alone lol. 3 stars for having decent food but they did not create a returning customer.

Delicious food ! One of the only Nicaraguense restaurants on this side of town. I highly recommend it to any Nicaraguense that lives in the area. I drive from Long Beach just to get a taste of home

Food is reallly reallly good but minus one star cus their side of creme is $2 for a very small amount. I usually get the carne asada plate and it comes with beans and rice (gallo pinto, but nothing to write home to mom about) charbroiled steak(seasoned well and not dry) , fried cheese (Yum cooked perfectly ) , plantain chips(very perfectly crispy) and plantains(not as sweet as I'd like but still yummy)

The food is delicious! Truly a traditional Nicaraguan restaurant. We ordered a fritanga dish which includes a little bit of everything and let me say the meats were soft juicy and tasteful!

Food is amazing! Tastes just like home big portions won't leave you hungry. Only downside is the parking but that's LA for you lol definitely will be returning!!

Let me start by saying my wife is half white half Nicaraguan. So she was dying to have a blast from the past, and eat some Nicaraguan food. She's hasn't been to Nicaragua in a long while. So we decided to stop by and give this place a try. Oh man it was amazing ! I'm Mexican and have never tried anything from Nicaragua. I loved everything from the salsa to the meats and cheeses. They deep fry everything lol but that's ok. It's a little pricey but worth the price. I got the fritanga plate which came with like 4 meats. Yummy ! We will be returning. The service was goo too.

A small hole in the wall nicaragüense restaurant. Amazing quality food! I like to call ahead (do a phone order) so the wait time is less. Everything is authentic and cooked on the spot. If it's your first time and you don't know what to order the Carne asada plate is always delicious with a Cacao Drink. They have street parking.

I hate to write bad reviews especially about small businesses , but their quality has severely declined. I'm not sure if it's because they're understaffed because of covid , but if I'm paying $20 for salpicon, I expect the portion of meat to be generous and flavorful. The meat was so bland and the rice as well. Las Segovias used to be my favorite place to eat Nica food but I don't think I'll go back.

Peores nacatamales. Masa estaba cruda, sin carne pura gordura sin sal. $10!!! Precios muy altos para comida tan mediocre. No recomiendo este lugar. Se mira sucio y antiquado.

The food was good but the portions were super small compared to another restaurant next to them. I also had hair in my onion vinegar mix. Not something I looked forward too when eating anywhere. But like I said, the food was good. I gave four stars due to the hair in my food and the price for the portions. Otherwise, it's good Nicaraguan food.

I REALLY really wanted to love this place. One because the food is tasty. Second because it's the only Nicaraguan restaurant that have complimentary tajadas con cebollitas (plantain chips with pickled onions). Third, they serve huge portions so it is like buying two plates for one, and last but not least its owner is a sweetheart! BUT, sadly there is not consistency in how the food is served or cooked. From the times I've been here I've noticed that when the owner is not there is when the cooks do whatever they want. The owner might take a little longer to get your plate to your table but the wait is worth it. Now when she is not there the cooks get your food faster but the quality, taste and portions are not as great as when the owner is approving and checking everything before serving your table. Also the place is small, the kitchen is very close to the eating area and it can get pretty humid inside mostly during summer days. It gets really uncomfortable after a while so I recommend you to sit at any table by the door or if you have a group ask them to sit you in the back patio. I hope the owner reads this and fix the ventilation. I've tried almost every dish on the menu and everything had been great except the times the owner wasn't there. Those times were just okay, and I've mentioned this and the ventilation issue to the owner. So hopefully she already fix both. For first timers I recommend you to get the fritanga mixta a La Segovia (gallo pinto rice & beans mixed, boiled yucca, fried pork, charbroiled beef, sausage, sweet and chips plantain, fried cheese, and cabbage salad) or churrasco con chimichurri (grilled skirt steak topped with parsley, oregano, cilantro, garlic, olive oil sauce) so damn good! I am craving some now! Drinks & desserts are good too my favorites are cebada (barley), cacao and maracuya/calala (passion fruit) and Pio V (custard like mixture topped with cinnamon) & bunuelos (deep fried yucca mini balls & cheese topped with cinnamon & cloves syrup). They also have Nicaraguan beers, and canned/bottled drinks. Street parking only. I say just give it a try!

So this review, I'm writing on behalf of a family member that came here and asked me to write a review on this place, to help yelpers decide if it's worth investing your money here. They ordered Nacatamales and baho. They described the nacatamales, like soup inside a leaf. (Don't even want to picture it). Tasteless, and extremely disappointing. Specially since Nicaraguans restaurants are so rare, this place is doing no justice on promoting our food. Baho, was terrible also. You'll find ingredients such as bay leaf, which is not an ingredient of this dish. Yucca was not steamed enough, there was no taste to the meat, maduro, plátano verde. It was just a tasteless, undercooked ingredients on a plate. Short story, the bill came out to $120 dollars. And it would of hurt less to throw the money straight to the trash instead of giving it to this people. 1 Star = 0 Star. Hope this helps you guys. And if you're looking for good quality Nicaraguan food. Message me, I'll refer you to a good place

Just got back from Costa Rica and was craving the food back in LA. While this is Nicaraguan food, Nicaragua borders Costa Rica so this is the closest we could find. Gallo Pinto (rice and beans), shredded beef tacos, and fried plantains were almost exactly like we experienced in Costa Rica! Maybe even better! Anyway, the owners and staff were amazing and the quality of the food was top notch. I highly recommend!

You couldn't pay me to go back here! NEVER! I was super excited to find this place because I have zero access to Nicaraguan food in the O.C - So excited I ordered 4 plates to go so I could devour it during the week! I specifically read the reviews to ensure it was worth it to make the hour long trip....what a waste of my time. 1) small inside (about 6 tables) with poor ventilation. The kitchen is literally within feet of your table and it gets pretty warm inside fast! But I could deal with that 2) it took AN HOUR to get our food (I was with 4 people).....and it was only because I got up to check on it, that I found it had been sitting on the counter for who knows how long? The food at this point was luke warm.....so the waitress has forgotten to bring it over? To top it off, they forgot my gallopinto and my ensalada for the 'tajadas con queso' I had ordered. 3) after eating my luke warm food, I ask for the bill and an ETA on my 'to go food' (4 plates: 2 quesillos, tajadas con queso and a vigoron) The waitress returns to tell me that they didn't make my to go order.....shocker. Wait another hour for food, that at this point I had ordered 1.5 hours ago? Ridiculous! I couldn't wait to pay and get the heck out of there. Your restaurant was a disappointment for this fellow patriot.

I came here very hungry and left with a very satisfying belly. Ulises the owner is cool and very attentive. Food is great the meat is premium quality. You must try the cacao con Leche which is amazingly authentic and very refreshing especially on a hot day. This is for sure a 5 star place. Rica comida Nica con un sabor genuino y muy delicioso que vas a quedar muy satisfecho.

There is no better Nicaraguan restaurant in town! The restaurant is small and homely and the food is on point. Servers and workers there in general are super cool. This is definitely my go-to spot for a taste of Home whether to eat in or take out. Definitely recommended!

Half of me was really excited (I'm 1/2 Mexican 1/2 Nicaraguan)when my dad told us he wanted to eat Nicaraguan food for Father's Day. He told us that he liked this place and wanted to introduce it to us. I guess that old man has a little inner-foodie in him after-all. This restaurant is a glorified living room and backyard- but not in a bad way. It is the epitome of "hole-in-the-wall" located in between a barber shop and 99 cent shop. It's a serious home-cooking experience with great service and awesome food! Party time. 1. Fritanga- sampler plate that's more like a party on a plate. Gallo pinto (rice&beans cooked with onions), tajadas (thin plantain chips), chancho (fried pork), salchicha (pork sausage), carne asada, queso frito (fried cheese-mind blowing) and ensalada de repollo (vinegar& cabbage salad). All are amazing! 2. Chimichurri - a skirt steak grilled and topped with chimichurri. Epic! 3. Cacao- Nicaragua's version of chocolate milk. It's better than any chocolate milk you'll ever have. Don't be afraid of the area, this is a humble family owned business with great food. You won't regret it.

This place is very close to my moms house and we frequently eat here. This place has very authentic food, perfect to the taste! Breakfast, lunch and diner all have great options to chose from. The service is also very great. The waitresses they have had are all tentative to your needs. Is you ever are in the area and would like some good Nicaraguan food try this place.

Wow for a small place the food was great. Very authentic flavor. We ordered the Carne Asada with Chimichurri, delicious. The fritanga plate is good . The Cacao drink was ok. Don't forget to try The Queso frito , was delicious. The bad part is the parking.

It doesn't look like a great place! But if you're looking for really good Nica food! This is the place!! Definitely going back.

We were watching a travel show featuring food from the land of my mother's birth - Nicaragua. Specifically nacatamales. So I yelped nacatamales and found Las Segovias. Finding a good Nicaraguan restaurant in LA is not easy, let alone a good one. I haven't had a better vigoron since my grandmother made it. The nacatamales are exceptional. The chiles/curtido is amazingly flavorful and can go on just about anything. This was my first visit but won't be my last.

I love Nicaraguan food! The owner Daisy is a great person.. Sometimes she has a Honduran cook which throws of the seasoning which changes the taste. But is still deserving a good review. Please try the fried cheese with plantains

In my opinion the food was delicious! I had brought my Nicaraguan friend and two other Mexican American friends to introduce them to our culture and our food..they loved it...the tortillas was fabulous it was as if my grandmother made them

My friend is from Nicaragua so we decided to eat here. I had the Modongo and it was delicious. All the food was very good. I'm glad I found this gem because we would always have to drive about 40 miles away for nica food. It all tastes fresh and homemade as it should be.

Love. Everything I've tried here is delicious. BUT if they're busy they're sooooo slow. On the weekends it's best to order ahead and pick it up.

Went to Las Gavionas with a group of people and had a hamburger but the group had plantains. It was enjoyable. The Hamburger I had was washed down with a cold coca-cola.

This place is extremely overpriced for the very poor quality of food. I ended up taking the meat home and making my own Gallo pinto because their gallo pinto was honestly the worst gallo pinto I've ever tasted. Also I couldn't believe I was paying $18 for a plate of carne asada. Super overpriced and they ended up sitting me in what looked like someone's backyard!
