Sometimes you need inexpensive very authentic Mexican food. Several years ago when I was here it was a full Mexican food store with a few tables; it has been converted to a restaurant only, no store. They make a good home made tomatillo sauce (medium) & red sauce (hot) which makes up for the thin, bland salsa served with the chips. If you like tomato juice, you may like it; it tastes and looks exactly like it.
There was a choice of 4 commercial hot sauces for n the table as well, including Tapatio, Cholula, Valentina, and El Yucateca. I was in the mood for Huevos Rancheros with corn tortillas. They were good, & come with rice & beans. Other items include tacos, tamales, enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, etc. Fairly simple menu, nothing Americanized. Don't come if you are on a schedule; it took about 30 minutes to get one Huevos Rancheros order.
Although the store is gone, they still have a few stand up stands for snack goods, such as various pastes of Tamarind with salt or sugar, packaged crisp tortillas, canned jalapeños in sauce, Mexican cans or bottles of soda, and the inevitable votive candles. Several TVs provide Spanish soap operas during lunch. You can also send money back to your family in Mexico, if you like; they offer that service.
