Since 1996, this family spot has quietly delivered bold green chile, stuffed sopaipillas, and hefty combination plates. Recommended by local critics in 2025 for consistent, old-school New Mexican flavors.

Went to go buy breakfast here on my way to work since it’s close have had some burritos here before typical your average price of like 7-8 after tax keep in mind I do buy to go. However this morning I was up chargers for the burrito by turning it into a “burrito plate” I did not ask for a burrito plate I asked for the burrito alone additionally asked for my potatoes inside the burrito

My colleagues and I went for lunch and it had to be some of the best food I’ve had in some time. The owner was incredibly friendly, kind, and generous. His staff was prompt and helpful. I will be definitely with Joy be returning for another meal!

Google
Short version: Las Trancas menudo > every mexican wanna be restaurants menudo Long version: Ever since I moved from el paso to las cruces I gave my self a task to find the best menudo. Back in the day in el paso I used to cross to juarez to eat menudo since you know... there's no better one than them. I've tried los mariachis, chilitos, EVERYTHING. They all sell you a lie plus some even rude. I found this place whenever I was dying in a really bad hungover. 3 sips of this menudo and brought me back to life, basically saving me. I felt like if this menudo was going to be like the other places I would've collapsed and die haha. This place makes me stay here instead of going all the way back to juarez! (Picture does not make justice)

I had the menudo here a few years ago which wasn't bad. I thought I'd their combination and regretted it. The pre-meal cup of albondigas was the best part dinner along with the tamale. Beef taco: Okay at best. Tamale: Alright. Green enchiladas: Soggy, sad and too much cheese. With my drink meal was almost $25. And why does this place smell like a dirty diaper now? Never coming back

Google
Delicious food. Very authentic. They have several tv to watch football. The albondigas is so wonderful. It reminds us of our grandmother's recipe. The menudo is all you can eat and so yummy. You can get it with posole.

Google
Recommend by the hotel clerk for authentic chicken tacos as i was craving them after my 10 hr drive. I popped over and when entering wasn’t quite sure what to do. got it figured out and then ordered. 3 chicken tacos dinner. it came with the BEST SOUP EVER!! some sort of meatball, gnocchi chicken(?) soup…it was Fabulous!! I’d go back just for that soup.❤️ then the tacos washed down by a Coors Light. Chicken was cooked well, juicy and tortillas toasted. Picante sauce too. Very good! Needed a bit more cheese. iit could have used more beans and rice with some chips so only 4 stars…should be 4.5. the beans were more like sauce. Very pleased and full with the recommendation. will definitely go again…That soup!!!

First time here, it was great!! Came for the rolled enchiladas, 10/10. Friendly staff, clean, and quick service. Will be coming here again!

Google
My menudo was good, my wife ordered the steak fries and she stated that it was a little bland and lacking flavor. Other than that, we had a good experience. Nice neighborhood eatery.

Yelp
Yummy! My work team does a monthly local lunch, and today we went to Las Trancas. It wasn't crowded, we got seated right away. I decided to do the flautas lunch special and it was such a generous portion. I had a choice of chicken or beef, so I asked what seemed to be the most requested - beef. Everything came out together, hot and plentiful. Here is my WOW moment. Part of the daily special was a cup of meatball soup. I'm not prone to eating soup when it's warm, but I'm also not prone to wasting food, so I tried it. To my surprise, I ate every bit of the soup. Delicious. Flavorful. Perfect temperature. My coworkers all had good reviews of their food, even though one person said they didn't make the dish quite the same way at home, and they enjoyed that this style was different and good. I was too hungry to take pictures! Sorry!

Yelp
We recently visited Las Trancas while in my wife's home state for our anniversary. She had to have some authentic NM menudo, and Las Trancas served it on a week day. All you can eat, but I have no idea how anyone can eat more than one bowl there! It was some of the best we've had! The ratio of meat to hominy was perfect, and the broth/soup was so flavorful. Just enough heat to have as a base. We got an extra order of bread and had plenty leftover to take home for breakfast the next day. I highly recommend the menudo.

Yelp
Came in on Sunday before the church crowd, in need of a hangover fix. I heard they had good Posole so I came in for that. This is a Posole review only. My review is GET THE POSOLE! Huge chunks of meat, tons of hominy, huge bowl and flavorful! Man this is good! Pair it with a Mexican coke and you start to come back to life! The only thing I would change is the bread. It's like a toasted hotdog bun. A roll or tortilla would be better. Other than that, the Posole is 5 stars for me! I'll be back to try more of the menu.

Bernardo R.

Yelp
I've at eaten here before, but during the time the bathrooms were having issues, so all the sewage could be smelled from the parking lot. The menudo was ok. Too much hominy.
google avatar

Jordana G.

Yelp
Clean, busy, and lots of servers checking on you. We stopped for Sunday breakfast and ordered a variety of things to get our final chile fix before heading home to Texas. I recommend the "native" combos because they come with a cup of the delicious albondigas soup. The combos are huge so plan to share. Excellent breakfast burritos. Both the red and green chile were tasty, medium heat and fresh. The carne adovada is crazy tender. Even the rice and beans were done well. There's all you can eat menudo on weekends, too. Get some sopapillas for dessert :) Recommended.
google avatar

Neria M.

Yelp
Horrible service. Ask for pata and nervio for the menudo, the waiter say ok received none. Asked for a can soda and got fountain. Didn't get any napkins don't recommend this place. Cero stars.

Yelp
Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - paradillas for 2 with beef, pork, a bit of chorizo, corn tortillas, grilled onions, 2 jalapeño toreados, asadero cheese, 2 baked potatoes, guacamole, and salsa. Very filling! We couldn't finish the plate and almost had enough for a second meal. The cooks on the protein were great but while the beef was nicely seasoned, the pork was a bit bland. The asadero cheese was great while hot but become solidified fairly quickly and was just a block of cheese then. Great guacamole but the salsa was a bit on the sour end. Ambience: 5/5 - cozy with low ceilings and historic decorations. Loved the servers' shirt that states ""I HATE TACOS" - no juan ever" Service: 5/5 - very friendly and welcoming service. Not the quickest but we weren't in a rush and were comfortable with the waits Value for price: 5/5 - reasonable price, delicious food, friendly service

Yelp
Service was terrible. Once we got our food we were never checked on once. It would have been nice for a follow up and a refill on our drinks. They don't offer complementary chips and salsa. You have to buy them. Fajita mix that I got with chicken and beef was good. My husband got chicken and beef tacos. He said the beef was super bland but the chicken was good. Still on the search for amazing Mexican food here...

Jerry T.

Yelp
4/26/25. Went to eat Mensole (Menudo/Posole) at Las Trancas but was disappointed since it was mostly Corn/Hominy with with a few pieces of meat. Definitely not worth what they charge. The Server was nice, no problem with his service. Appreciated him.

Yelp
I asked for only onions and tostada chips for my order and instead I got a bunch of things I didn't ask for and I tipped like $3 just to get home 20min away pissed off and I didn't even get anything to eat with and if wasn't even busy right now
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
So far the only down fall to this place is you don't get chips and salsa upon sitting down. (That's one item I look for in any Mexican style restaurant) The red enchiladas were delicious, the pozole was on point

Rob. P.

Yelp
Las Trancas is again one of my go to Mexican restaurants. Today, as always, the service was efficient and pleasant. I ordered their number #4 combination meal. This meal comes with a cup of their Albondigas Soup which was brought to the table within three minutes of ordering the meal. The soup was very flavorful and full of hearty vegetables. Rate the soup an "A-." I really enjoyed it. The main meal was brought to the table about six minutes later. The service overall was quick and efficient from the waitress to the kitchen. A ground beef taco was served on a separate plate with a little bit of salsa on the side. The salsa was quite ordinary but the taco, which had a soft tortilla warmed on the grill, was quite good for a ground beef taco. Actually, it was one of the better ground beef tacos I've had. Rate it a solid "B." The rice and refried beans were the usual. The enchilada was above average. Rate it a "B." The chile relleno was well above average and it had a good bit of heat. Rate it a "B+." The star of the show was, once more, their carne adovada. Large chunks of tender pork, so tender you could cut them with the side of your fork, were steeped in a delicious sauce. Since visiting Las Trancas once again this year the carne adovada served here has become one of my favorite meals in town. This version of carne adovada is how it should be done. THIS IS CLEARLY THE BEST CARNE ADOVADA IN LAS CRUCES. Rate it a an "A" for excellent. The restaurant with its nice ambiance and comfort, nice well rounded New Mex menu, good service, and really good food rates FIVE STARS. I've once again become a regular customer. (See my previous review for info on their stuffed sopapilla and chile con carne burrito.)

Yelp
We've been coming here over the past 4 years every time we visit family here in Las Cruces from Los Angeles California. We are never disappointed. The customer service is excellent. The menu offers a great selection compared to the mexican restaurants in LA.

Carmen B.

Yelp
Las trancas is a great place to enjoy a meal. The food is tasty and service is fast and courteous. Their prices invite a return visit.

Lucio A.

Yelp
Combo plate for me, wife had beef Flauta plate. Both were scrumptious, authentic! Service was top notch and restaurant is notably clean and spacious. Gracias!

Edward V.

Yelp
The food at this restaurant was really over hyped than what it was. I order the flauta plate and it was not as tasty as it sounded to be. Also I ordered the enchiladas and it had a sour taste when I took my first bite. Not sure if they used old cheese but that's what it reminded me of. Our server didn't check on us but to take our order and bring our food. The server didn't refill our drinks or didn't even look at us while we were trying to flag her down. We had to call over another server to have our food taken off our check because I couldn't take another bite. The food is pretty pricey and wouldn't recommend coming to this place. There are way better restaurants in the area than this place.

Yelp
We came here as a group of 15. It Wasn't busy and were seated together at a table right away. Our waiter was friendly and nice. We were a large group but he didn't forget anyone's order. The chips and salsa are excellent. I got combo #3. For the price you get a lot of food. I wanted to try one of everything. The albondigas were excellent. I wish the serving was bigger. You only get one meat ball. I also got rice and beans. They taste homemade and fresh. It also came with a taco. It was a ground meat taco. It could have more flavor. An enchilada that was good. The best part was the chili relleno. It had the green chili. It was amazing. The chili was cooked well. It was easy to cut and eat. Overall excellent place. The horchata wasn't that sweet though.
google avatar

Iris D.

Yelp
Best menudo in Las Cruces! We ordered the torta de colors de Pavo and it was delicious, the meat was clean and the bread was fresh and the fries were really crispy. The albóndigas had a bit too much cumin. The dessert was so amazing, we got the sopaipilla with ice cream. Even the lemonade was freshly squeezed and delicious. Will definitely come again. The service was excellent Delilah and Sergio took care of us and were really nice and attentive.

Rfriedmount F.

Yelp
What a disappointment this place was! From the outside it looked like a cool and cozy Mexican food dive. After being seated and taking a look at the menu, we were shocked to see the ridiculously high prices for basic Mexican plates. We asked for the usual complimentary chips and salsa that we are accustomed to in a real Mexican restaurant, and were told there was a charge for this. The kids' meals were also very highly priced for what they were serving. One of us ordered the desebrada plate and it was tasteless and dry. The quesadillas also had no flavor and for some reason, pickles were added as decoration and the pickle juice soaked the tortilla, which ruined the flavor of the quesadilla... Do not waste your money or time at this place!

Ann-Marie Y.

Yelp
I had Huevos Rancheros and chips and salsa. I got the chips and salsa because I thought my food would take a long time to come out but it came out quickly. I always get my eggs over medium and in most restaurants they are over easy. Not here, they cooked the eggs just like I asked. I asked for easy green chile and got the perfect amount. The refried beans and potatoes were also very good. I'm so full and have chips and salsa left over for later.

Yelp
I frequently at Las Trancas. I love the tacos, but prefer the chicken tacos. Best in town. I also eat their great enchiladas. Flat enchiladas come with shredded lettuce. Roll enchiladas srrebed with rice and beans. All meals are served with a cup of Albondiga Soup, which is delicious. Menudo and posole is great. I highly recommend this restaurant and all it's good.
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
I don't get the whole red or green chilie thing so I don't even bother ordering something that has it as a choice. In any event I ordered the taco plate which turned out to be not half bad. - Refried beans were good - Rice was ok - Tortillas for the taco were very good - Meat for tacos (ground beef) was average - Salsa was good, but the chips that came with it were meh.
google avatar

Yelp
$21.95 for enchiladas with one egg, chips and salsa, and a drink. No beans and rice. $4.95 for the chips and salsa. Don't you think that's crazy high? Got to admit that their red enchilada sauce has that earthy New Mexico goodness I love. It was really good. But not $21.95 worth of good! Yesterday, I had breakfast at Delicias Cafe. Three cheese enchiladas, covered with 2 eggs over easy, with some delicious refríed beans and some hash browns on the side. Coffee. Chips and salsa. All for $14.57! Did not care for the hash browns. Next time I will go for extra beans instead. But still!

Yelp
Comida supo a miercoles no vengan si ustedes vieran a mi mama no llegarian enserio ni comi

Yelp
Las trancas has Mexican style food not new Mexican. Lots of flavor without cheese and chili. excellent albondigas soup as an included appetizer.very friendly staff giving great service.

Gwen L.

Yelp
Not busy and still got poor service. Finished our meal before they brought out our sopapillas and our drink refill. Food was nothing new. Same old same old.
google avatar

Alfredo N.

Yelp
This is a very nice place. Food is freshly made, and delicious. One great thing is that their staff is very smiley and welcoming!
google avatar

Alec B.

Yelp
Really good food and a fair price. If you order the daily special, a really good soup comes with it. The salsa and chips are free and have a great flavor, a little oniony and smooth, but good flavor. The tacos were nice and crispy with good tasting meat
google avatar

B G.

Yelp
Taco Thursday is the name of the game at Las Trancas. $.50 tacos, but with a catch...you must order a drink at full price. The food is decent, service reasonable, but the pricing is quite capable of some bank-breaking, wallet-guzzling, extortion. Once again, taco Thursday is the name of the game unless you enjoy empty pockets. Don't bother getting coffee here unless you want some diesel-esque, muddied-watered, boo boo junk bean juice (with free refills). The 50 cent tacos are a mixture of beans/pasty meat topped with diced tomatoes, lettuce, and an overly-absent amount of very finely shredded cheese. 3 out of 5 (won't be returning anytime soon)

Yelp
I would not recommend this place!!! The food was disgusting. We asked for plates to eat the platter of nachos we were sharing. By the time our waitress remembered to bring them the nachos were getting soggy. She only brought them after she saw me getting up to get a to go box to eat them out of. Wanted decaffeinated coffee...surprise-they didn't have that even tho they have a large breakfast menu. It was overpriced and the menu was lacking choices that even sounded appealing. Please save your self the trouble and avoid his place!
google avatar

Yelp
We wanted to let newcomers to Las Cruces know that Las Trancas has the best menudo in the whole city! Every time the same excellent fresh taste and the toasted lightly buttered French rolls that are delicious! We have also had other dishes, they have excellent breakfast and parrilladas! The beer is always very cold and the the tea is always fresh and they have both sweet and unsweetened! The waitresses and waiters are always very friendly and attentive to customers needs! I highly recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Leticia A.

Yelp
Best tripitas plate! Service was really fast and very attentive. Will definitely be back soon. This was authentic Mexican food. Red salsa was spicy and had good flavor.

Bob B.

Yelp
No wonder the place has never been busy when I've driven by at Noon or 6-7pm (even before the COVID "crisis"). The food is maybe average for Las Cruces but the prices are ridiculously high! forget breakfast unless you want to pay $11.00 for an omelette and there are no lunch or dinner plates less than about $11.50 and that is outrageous for Las Cruces where the "Best" NM places like Nellie's, Chopes, and Roberto's sell enchilada, taco and relleno plates around $8 - $10 all the time that are far better! It's not even a good bar either. Avoid.
google avatar

Yelp
We came to Las Trancas last Sunday night for dinner. There were 8 of us. the service was excellent and the food was even better. I wasn't super hungry, but I still wanted to sample their food. I ordered the Albondigas Stew. For those who are unfamiliar with what Albondigas Stew is, think vegetable soup with meatballs. Ok, now think orgasm in your mouth, because that's what this soup was. It was a goddamn orgasm in my mouf! It was seasoned to PERFECTION. It needed nothing. No salt. No pepper. NOTHING. Plenty of veggies and tons of meatballs. They serve it with a side of rice and a half of a lime. I squeezed the lime in the soup, but, really, it didn't need it. I also ordered a taco on the side. It was way too much food, but I forced down a few bites. So good. Miguel ordered the red chile enchiladas. I had a bite and just like La Posta, they were so good. They served Sopapillas for dessert, but like a dummy, I didn't save any room. I will have to try one before I leave.
google avatar

Ellie D.

Yelp
Our servers are always super amazing and the food was great as always. I love the menudo! They have a really good taco thursday price, and the prices are fair. I love coming in for Menudo on Sundays, is always so fresh and good.
google avatar

Berenice V.

Yelp
The food is not good at all. The menudo is not good, chilaquiles are not good nor are the red or green enchiladas. Not a good place for authentic Mexican food!!
google avatar

Rosalie C.

Yelp
The food was better months ago... now it's a mess! The prices have increased about a good 30% plus there's no such thing as "Free Refills" anymore! It's $2.50 per refill on all soft drinks , lemonade ( powered drink) and teas. The waitstaff even told me that their famous menudo that's available for their "all you can eat" can sometimes be yesterday's and or even lasts week! Plus I've seen roaches near the kitchen area they have... I hope the health department does something about it quickly!!!!
google avatar

Coatl D.

Yelp
We've been going for some time so it troubles me to write this review. The food is not very exciting and the portions are children size for the price. With so many amazing Mexican food options in this town, I'll be taking my money somewhere else from now on.
google avatar

Sonia M.

Yelp
Before I ordered my menudo I asked if I can have my bread unbuttered and not toasted...and as a result of that answer I ordered my menudo. (I don't like butter on my menudo bread) then I get my menudo and I am told my bread can not be given to me this way! So I returned the menudo and I got a sassy attitude from the waitress! And then after we ask for extra limes for a carne asada plate and she says limes will be extra.. I wonder if this is a result of me returning the menudo or what the deal is... then no free refills menudo and food was good but just for the service it self it gets 1 star. Bad service leaves a bad taste! Couldn't enjoy the food to well after the sassy attitude and the fact that I couldn't get by bread without butter.. (what if I was allergic to butter??)
google avatar

Brian O.

Yelp
We stopped in today for lunch. The service was very good and our food came quickly. My wife and I had the stuffed sopapillas, one with ground beef and one with shredded beef. Both plates came with rice and re-fried beans. The rice was little on the bland side, but everything else was delicious. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
I love their Albondigas soup! My family eats breakfast here fairly often and it has always been good. We have also had the tacos on Taco Thursday.
google avatar

Lizbet T.

Yelp
It's coo we had it last minute before they closed called it in burrito and tacos they gave us three instead of four and no hot sauce but better then mc ds

Yelp
After living in Southern California for several years, I relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina. On the drive from West Coast to East Coast, my sister and I stopped in Las Cruces, hoping to find something good to eat. We happened upon Las Trancas by pure dumb luck. I have eaten a lot of Mexican food in my life, and this is the restaurant I keep wishing I could go back to! The food was fresh, not too heavy, deliciously spiced. I ordered the Chiles Rellenos, the meal by which I judge any Mexican restaurant -- they were done to perfection. Not too greasy, not overwhelmingly cheesy. It has been so long, I don't remember what anyone else had, but I remember having a bite of everybody's food and marveling at how great it was. Even more amazing were the totally reasonable (dare I even say cheap?) prices for the amount of food we received. Service was great, and on the night we ate there, we were treated to live music! My experience at Las Trancas was top notch. I'd recommend it to anyone.
google avatar

Jeanette K.

Yelp
This is my FAVORITE place to eat in all of LC! It's a little place that's low in prices and high in flavor. Seriously, this is down-home comida mexicana at its best.
google avatar

Kyle T.

Yelp
Solid breakfast to keep you going till dinner. Between the family tried a chorizo breakfast burrito, machaca, and their special which seemed sorta like a steak and eggs scramble. All were tasty. Service and atmosphere were fine. Lots of other folks eating the menudo.

Los Angeles R.

Yelp
I was only in here to grab a cup of their tortilla soup as I was sick as a dog and needed some magic. What I got totally helped me a TON from a very nice girl at the counter. It was very homemade and authentic and it helped me get the much needed rest I craved! I would love to go back and try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

L. Dean H.

Yelp
This is a wonderful, down-home, great place for genuine Mexican and New Mexican food. Not fancy, but service and food is excellent. I can hardly wait to go there again.
google avatar

Ted S.

Yelp
Amazing chorizo breakfast burrito smothered in chile verde sauce. You know I'll be doing that again someday!

Yelp
This place is awesome especially on Thursday!!!! Finally I found a descent Taco place in las cruces. They have 50 cents ground beef taco every Thursday!!!! The serving was fast and they have Horchata ... Awesome!!! The place is typical mexican restaurants and it's a little bit noisy. They also have specials on beer. It's a great place for people to grab a bite fast as well as having family dinner.
