How to Help: Fight Hunger and Support Local Restaurants in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"The city’s largest soup kitchen and homeless shelter, capable of feeding up to 1,000 people a day from a 10,800-square-foot dining and training facility that seats about 200; during the pandemic it adapted by offering bagged daily community meals (5–6 p.m.) available to the public, weekly produce giveaways, emergency food boxes for newly relocated families, a weekday bread pantry (9 a.m.–noon), and volunteer opportunities across meal services and thrift operations; the organization estimates a cost of roughly $2.17 to provide a single meal." - Susan Stapleton

I’m staying here and stuff is wonderful! The only thing is we would like for it to be a day shelter too,but it’s understandable,I have no complaints about this place everybody is just so friendly!

Jason P.

Google
Do not go to the treatment center here. My sister mailed me a phone from out of state so I would have it when I got out so that I could access my bank accounts to get myself housing. It had tracking on the package, shows delivered to the chapel front desk, signed for by person at front desk however when I discharged they swore it was never received. That's after making g me stand outside the gate in the 110 degree weather while they allegedly looked for it. Turns out they lied and they had return to sendered the package the next day after I came to get it. To make matters worse when my sister got the package back, it had been opened, the phone was there but they stole the airtime card and taped the box back up. Real nice integrity for an allegedly "Christian" organization. Aside from that, their rehab program is trash, it involves modern day slavery/indentured servitude, and offers little actual help with addressing addiction and the recovery from. Basically they house and feed people like cattle so they can keep the doors open with little labor expenses while sucking up unforetold amounts of government funding.

Google
I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to serve/volunteer at this facility several times over the past three years. It's a great place with great staff and great resources for those that are homeless and/or "at risk." I intend to continue serving there and hopefully relocate to Vegas soon and serve the homeless population as a calling!!

I was struggling and had nowhere else to go, but the Las Vegas Rescue Mission gave me hope again. They provided food, shelter, and a warm bed when I needed it most. The staff treats everyone with kindness and respect. I’m so grateful for the support and care they give to people like me

Google
Look, it's a homeless shelter, so you get what you pay for, but as far as that kind of thing goes it's really the best you're gonna find in the city and that's due in no small part to Luke and Tolo, the two guys who run the men's dorm. They're kind, understanding, positive, funny, and even a good fifth thing. They almost make a guy not want to get his life together so he can stay forever... Almost. In all seriousness you don't come to a place like this when everything is going your way but they certainly make me feel like I have good people in my corner. Thanks Luke and Tolo, you've been amazing.

Tim W.

Google
First time volunteering. They have an amazing team and they are well organized. Seems like the chicken was a hit. Prayers for all those that help provide food for those tired street warriors. May they find peace with that little bit of nourishment.

Bert V.

Google
Of the places in the area, this one is the best. Doing A lot, with very little, And the staff in the men's dorm specifically Luke and Tolo strive hard to make the men's dorm comfortable as possible for our needs. I never thought I would be here, but i'm glad for people like them on my journey...

Google
This place is a fraud and con, I literally went out there and they said they were gonna take care of me and get me on my feet and put me into a organization to make it where I could survive on my own and do what I need to get into a house until the time being and they didn't. I left from another state For them to trick me and tell me I have two weeks to get out on my own or they were going to turn me homeless while they still made it were I was outside on the streets from 7:30@ to 3pm in the extreme heat trying to commit attempted murder on me. After the lady I spoke to told me that they would take care of me if I were to come out there and make the move. They didn't supply me with a locker either. They forced me to take my luggage with me every day to that was extremely heavy because all of my stuff was in it. Just for the cops to harass me on the side of the street and tell me that I couldn't sit in the area that they told me I was allowed to sit at during the time being Of having nowhere else to sit.

Yelp
As a foodie and Yelp enthusiast, it's a blessing to be able to regularly partake in local cuisine. Here, I get to write a review about being on the giving side of that equation. My employer regularly schedules opportunities for a group of employees to volunteer for the Evening Community Meal at Las Vegas Rescue Mission, founded in 1970. It is a smooth-running operation. For two hours, we get to assist with food service for around 500 to 700 homeless or hungry folks from the local community. The demographic is diverse across age and ethnicity, and includes some families and people with disabilities. They are peaceful and polite throughout the occasion. Some greet you personally to express their gratitude. I enjoy participating in this volunteer event, as a way to give back to the local community most in need. It also serves as a reminder to not take my own meals for granted, as someone fortunate to be in the segment of society that never goes hungry. For folks interested in volunteering, I would recommend Las Vegas Rescue Mission to anyone.

Yelp
Donated Food to the Kitchen Everyone at the facility were super friendly & helpful. It's a clean & safe facility for someone looking to get some food and help

Tom E.

Yelp
It is a place to help rescue and revive the lives of so many who have lost their way for many different reasons. Everyone here gives their best assisting familes who few if any are willing to help. Giving them faith in a new future, hope in redemption and reaching out in Love. This is a place to support and recommend to those in need. It's a place to feel Safe.

Yelp
Amazing staff! I found so much great stuff at the best prices. My first time here and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
We brought food to them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. God bless them for the selfless work they do in Las Vegas.

Yelp
Great volunteer experience! We provide hundreds of meals daily to the Las Vegas homeless community.

Whitney W.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite charities in Las Vegas because of the outstanding work they do help those less fortunate and it keeps getting better and better s the community steps up, Now that I'm retired, I'm looking to volunteer where I can. Keep up the great work Heather, staff and volunteers! You are appreciated!

Yelp
This is a highly recommended mission for helping the hurting and homeless in Las Vegas. It is so important in these days of bad economics to always remember these people who are hurting. I know that out of the abundance of what God has given me that I can bless others.

Yelp
Well ... try to do a good thing ... I called them- set up a pick up for a sofa. The sofa is only 2 years old and was purchased for 2900$ . it's a quality piece. It doesn't have a single stain or rip in it. And I had put it upfront my house the agreed upon pick up day and they didn't pick it up . So I call them and the person on the phone tells me that the driver decided the sofa was "in too bad a condition" to be picked up . It is dusty from the move but doesn't have a SINGLE stain . I added a pic so u be the judge .

Yelp
I've recently picked up more of a passion for volunteering these days and boy I have to say it really is life changing. Most of the times I have volunteered it would be here and there but I've committed myself to sharing my blessings with others. My job has a really cool volunteering network that list a bunch of the most common charities and things like the Las Vegas Rescue Mission are on that list. Coming out to spare about 2 hours out of your day seriously goes a long way with most of these homeless people who come in for their meals. Whether its back behind the kitchen serving or out on the floor helping with the condiments and water either way you will enjoy your time!

Helen B.

Yelp
My daughter is in recovery there. Overall the recovery program sounds like it would be effective. There is a matter that needs resolution and getting in touch with someone there can't be done. I have made numerous calls and left messages with no return calls. I sent an email with the information I needed and a way to get back to me. I did not get a response. I wonder if there is a valid reason why a counselor or case manager would not return my calls or at least answer my email. I am not looking to break any rules by speaking to my daughter, in fact I made it clear that is not what I wanted to do. If you have any other choices then I would certainly think about another facility.

Yelp
This was my first time volunteering at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission serving dinner. I had seen my friends from Yelp do this consistently and I wanted to join some evening and help out, too. If you read Tracy P.'s review, she states well what the Rescue Mission does. They provide a wonderful serving for the residents of the program and also in helping feed the homeless of which there are too many. Seven of us were on the line last night and we were their for the second dinner service which is for residents and staff members. I was impressed by the politeness of the men and women coming through the line. Ty was next to me and he was dishing out ice cream. His question of, "Do you want ice cream?" was met in most cases by a pleasant, "Yes, please" and then a thank you. This was something I noticed all night even with me handing out cans of soda. Pleasant people generally with a smile on their face and very thankful for the meal they received and for us. Many took the time to thank us for volunteering. I know I will go back with this group whenever I can. Helping out as little as I did was important for the residents but in the end, it was more important for me. Timshel

Yelp
I have been lucky enough to serve lunch and dinner at LVRM several times over the years. I always look forward to spending time here as it reminds me that we are all sharing this planet together and we all need to help one another as much as possible. The LVRM is run with love and caring. When you show up you are greeted warmly and the folks that run the place really appreciate your attendance. Upon arrival, you don an apron and a hair net. You could be working behind the counter serving food and drink, you could be greeting people as they come through the door (my favorite spot), or you might be out on the floor serving ice and water. Wherever you choose to work, your time here is well spent. Lunch is generally a smaller, more intimate crowd and at dinner you can serve anywhere from 300 - 400 people in one sitting. Everyone is always very thankful and they let you know how glad they are they are to see you. I am very grateful that Las Vegas has the LVRM to assist those in need and I am glad that I am able to help them as much as my schedule allows. I have been taking my daughter with me since she was about 12 years old and now at 17 years old she can drive herself to serve when I am not able to join her. It has definitely helped develop her as an individual and taught her compassion and caring for those less fortunate. If you enjoy volunteering as much as I do, then the LVRM is a great opportunity to give of yourself and your time.

Yelp
I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back. ~Maya Angelou Volunteering in the local community is something I definitely don't do enough of, but whenever the opportunity presents itself and my crazy schedule allows, it's always gratifying to work at the Mission. I've worked the dinner service here many times over the past couple of years and the work they do there for the homeless is priceless. My teenage son and I worked dinner service again on President's Day and the couple of hours we spent working with the staff and other volunteers flew by. We served up just about 315 trays of food that night to the homeless who lined up for their share. It may not seem like much, but every little bit helps if you're looking for a place to make a difference. Go to their website and you'll find info on how to become a volunteer. And, big thanks to LVRM--you make a difference in my life and the lives of countless others!

Yelp
Did you know it's a $1,000 fine in Clark County to feed the homeless on the street, if you're just some random citizen? Thank God for Las Vegas Rescue Mission, the homeless shelter in Las Vegas. (I am actually a volunteer here so I don't get paid - I choose to spend my time here, so hopefully it's okay to write a review!) I found out about the LVRM via meetup.com and I have to say I am so glad I did. The people at the rescue are doing a great service for the vast, ever-expanding homeless population here in Vegas. I must say that I do get choked up when I volunteer during the hygiene kit and snack pack hand outs. It's heartbreaking when a family or a single girl with a baby comes down the line, in need of a blanket for her infant, especially because it's still freezing at night in Vegas. The people that are served, even though they're going through hard times, are for the most part very personable and grateful, and a blessing to work with. The mission does so much more than housing people for a night and giving them a meal; they do everything from job placement and training, to a clothing ministry, psychological services, recovery services, and Christian outreach. The people who work within the kitchen live at the mission and it's a part of the terms of their recovery and reentry into society. They work, give up drugs and/or prostitution, in exchange they get to live at the mission for a specific period of time and get job training and placement. This place is doing great things for the community and is a valuable asset.

Yelp
Signed up to volunteer for four consecutive days through their website. Received four Email confirmations and later four Email reminders shortly before the dates scheduled. Awesome system! Showed up for the first day. Immediately told that they had enough volunteers signed up for that day. I told them I have an Email confirmation and even a reminder. Didn't matter. Asked about the reliability of my remaining 3 days of scheduled times. Was told to show-up again and if they need help, I'm in or I may get turned away again. Good-bye.

Yelp
This is the best charity to give things to. They will come and pick up large items and they give to the poor...not trying to make a huge profit. If you can afford to pay for the items then do that. But if you can not afford to pay then they will give.

Yelp
I wanted to get more involved in the community. After some research, I discovered the rescue mission and decided that I wanted to be a part of what they do. Their volunteer program is the best I've ever been a part of. Marcus (runs the program) does such a great job coordinating and making it fun for everyone. He genuinely cares about the homeless community and he really believes in everything the mission stands for. I usually try and go once a week and work the community meal. There are usually about 25-30 of us pushing out anywhere from 500-700 trays for the hour. I like to refill the waters and bus the trays. It gives me an opportunity to walk around the room and really get to know the people I'm serving. whether it be working the lines, the dish room, the trash, working the main room, or simply just greeting them with a clean cup for water at the door... There is a job for every personality. I didn't realize how much being a part of this program would really affect my life. It is truly a humbling experience. The people in this community are wonderful people, often looked over or down upon. After hearing some of their stories... I couldn't help but be inspired by how kind, gentle, and grateful they are, even after some of the awful circumstances they stumbled upon in their lives. Almost always polite and positive, these people never forget a smile and a please and thank you. I can't imagine myself being so pleasant if the situation was reversed:/ I look forward to going every week because of them. However, the rescue mission offers more than just a warm meal. It offers recovery programs and education, housing for families, a thrift store, clothing to people trying to get jobs, and guidance for assistance with in the community. If you are looking to give back in any way, this is an organization I would highly recommend giving to. Whether it be your time, knowledge, or even a bag of clothes for donation, they will always be my first choice.

Yelp
How do you ever give a rescue mission any less than 5 stars? Quick answer...you don't. But if I could give the Las Vegas Rescue Mission more than 5 stars, I would. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission has to be one of the most organized rescue missions that I have ever been a part of. I've donated some of my time giving back to shelters and rescue missions in San Diego and in Los Angeles. Both those areas are big and sometimes disorganized. Here at the LV Rescue Mission, I was quite impressed with how organized the staff was. You're given an quick orientation when you start, then they assign a job for you. We worked dinner service and the jobs ranged from the food assembly line, meal counter, bus tables, trash duties, in the kitchen, or dish washer. I had trash service and absolutely loved it. Trust me, this is the job you want to be assigned to. This one of the few jobs where you get to meet and socialize with people that you just served dinner to. I'm not about to imply that I'm a saint. In fact, there's a lot more that I could do to help our community. When I have an opportunity, I will do my part. The Starfish Story A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement. She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, "Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can't save all these starfish. You can't begin to make a difference!" The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, "Well, I made a difference to that one!" -Adaption of "The Star Thrower" by Loren Eiseley. You too can make a difference. Yelp
Truly a great experience! I imagine that when a volunteer walks in here for the first time, they are unsure as to what they will witness and experience. I admit, I was slightly uncertain and naive myself; I figured I would just stroll in, pass out some food, pour some water, and walk away selfishly feeling good about what I did for a few hours. However, seeing the hundreds of faces of adults and kids who came in here for a warm meal and place to safely relax for a while really put things into perspective for me. I was surprised by the immediacy of these thoughts and emotions that, for lack of better term, filled my heart. The amount of smiles on everyone's faces were quite surprising...and I'm not talking about us volunteers, I'm referring to the people here for dinner service. You could feel the genuine happiness that came in with them. Sincere "thank yous" and, "god bless yous" were consistently uttered after I took and cleared their food trays. I asked myself a simple, but perplexing question, "Would I be this happy in their situation?" "Would I be saying please and thank you, or would I be angry, and possibly jealous knowing that these volunteers go home to central heating and fridge full of food?" I don't know the answer to those questions, nor do I care to ever find out. What the Las Vegas Rescue Mission does is quite amazing! Not only do they offer free dinner services to the homeless, but they offer recovery programs, housing for families, and help to people who are determined to get back on their feet. It's nice to see that there are still places that rely on the power of human emotion, faith, and patience. I don't mean faith in the sense of religion, but the literal definition of the word... "confidence or trust in a person or thing". It's nice to see this is still alive in the age of twitter and witless/hollow comments left on social media blogs and sites. I can remember a time in my life where I was struggling, living and hoping that I could pay my bills for the next month. Realistically, I was about one missed paycheck away from being in the street. I was lucky enough to have a family that could catch me if I were to fall. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is a grimm, but real reminder that not everyone is as fortunate as I am. Sadly, I believe I'm in the minority when it comes to that family support system. I'm glad I was able to be apart of filling peoples' bellies, even for a brief moment, and providing stability in an unstable society. I will be back to help volunteer at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission soon to take out the trash or load up a family's food tray.

Yelp
Very friendly and courteous staff. We have visited twice to drop off donations. They can arrange to go to your location to pickup donations as well.

Yelp
Las Vegas Mission. After trying to donate badly needed clothing as advertised, this was the reply. 30 days until Las Vegas mission can pu the donation. People are on the street needing these clothes. Very very poor. Good morning Dave, The next available pickup for your area is Friday, 12/01. Please let me know if this date works for you. Our pickup window is 730am-3pm and the driver will call you 15-30 minutes prior to arrival. Please be advised that our drivers make all final decisions regarding pickups.

Yelp
My mother had passed away, my sister and I had to pack up her things. We really didn't know what we were going to do with everything. After deciding to donate everything, We were able to schedule a pick up with Las Vegas Rescue Mission. The 2 men arrived on scheduled day and time, were able to take everything we had packed up. They were so courteous and fast! Las Vegas Rescue Mission made the whole process so easy for us! We couldn't find anyone else who would come out and pick up used items! We know all our Mom's belongings will be put to good use. Thank you to all the wonderful people at Las Vegas Rescue Mission!!

Yelp
I can't even express how grateful I am that we found the Mission. This place turned a life or death situation into an amazing recovery story. This is not just a homeless shelter. They have a drug program that works if the person going into it wants to be free of their addiction. They help people get housing after the program as well. This place makes new beginnings possible! If you want to volunteer or donate, this is the place to go!

Yelp
As part of Yelp Helps, I organized a series of group volunteer days, which may sound like a piece of cake, but you'd be surprised! It's hard to find an organization that can accommodate a large group of do-gooders, and then, you're not exactly sure what you'll get. After organizing several, I can say that the Las Vegas Rescue Mission was amazing to work with. They were organized and beyond appreciative. From the moment our group arrived to serve a meal, we were repeatedly told thank you by the staff and reminded that if we had any problems whatsoever to let them know immediately. The entire operation was a well-oiled machine! For a group volunteer project, it was perfect. As for my individual experience volunteering, wonderful as well. Because the meal service is well organized, you have no problem knowing what to do, and you stay busy serving from start to finish. Not only do you get the warmth of knowing you are helping those less fortunate, you get the side effect of realizing you are fortunate. It is an easy way to help out that makes a big impact. If you are trying to volunteer but don't know where to start, The Rescue Mission is a perfect place.

Yelp
My husband worked the furniture convention at city center this last week. After it was over there were tons of food leftover. We got multiple packs of huge costco sized items. These items included milk, bread, sliced cheese and deli meat, bagels, english muffins, hot dogs, hot dogs buns, cookies, oreos, chocolate, orange juice, lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, celery, etc. Easily over $1,200 bucks worth of food. We saved some for us, gave some to friends and still have a lot leftover. After doing some research online (YELP!) I saw that this place was one of the best options. Only 12 miles away and open on super bowl sunday.. perfect. Driving in they said the food donation center was closed but we could drop it at the kitchen. Driving to the kitchen we noticed the play ground with lots of kids playing and the moms socializing. it broke my heart to see all of these kids in need. The place was super clean and everyone was extremely friendly. It had this family feel to it, that was warm and welcoming. They gladly accepted everything and offered a tax write off. In august when my husband works again, we will skip giving it to friends and come straight here. I want to start bringing my daughter and get her involved in the volunteering process.

Yelp
I feel blessed knowing that I am able to donate my time to help those in need. If you are looking for volunteer opportunites, give the folks over at Las Vegas Rescue Mission a look. Las Vegas Rescue Mission is actually a drug rehabilitation program located on Bonanza. There are residents who live on property, and they also provide shelter and hot meals to homeless people. Our group arrived around 4:30pm and were given hair nets, aprons and rubber gloves, along with a quick orientation. We started out by placing a spoon and napkin in styrofoam cups and placing them on trays. We also filled pitchers with ice and water and placed 2 on each table. Once it was time to open, 6 people were assigned to the hot line, where they put food on the trays. 1 person was the meal "counter," and 2 people handed out the trays to those in line. I was assigned to be a rover in the room, helping to clear trays and refill water pitchers. There were also 2 people roving with salt/pepper/hot sauce. Everyone - from the staff, to those we fed, were nothing short of amazing. Everyone was so appreciative. This was the quickest 2 hours I've ever spent and I can't wait to go back! Trust me, giving back is so worth it. Not everyone can afford monetary donations, but everyone can find 2 hours out of their busy lives to help out someone else. Your heart will be full after seeing the smiles you'll get from these people.

Yelp
Thrifty. I love thrift stores and I had no idea that this was even here. Now I am not going to sit here and lie to you. I had to do some community service here this past weekend. The thrift store is so cute. The warehouse manager (Tony) is so freaking nice. The to cashiers Candace and Des are super friendly as well, It was like I was already an employee there. The merchandise is actually OK. I found alot of good stuff plus the prices are super cheap. REALLY CHEAP I really want to keep coming on Saturdays they get so busy plus I could help the Hispanics trying to communicate but don't know how to speak English. This is a great way to help out. Plus it is super fun. p.s. On any debit/credit card purchase it is a minimum of $10.00

Yelp
The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is a truly wonderful organization that serves so many in need in the greater Las Vegas community. It's a great place for volunteer groups and individuals to get involved and give back some TLC locally and make a big impact. I've had the pleasure of volunteering here a small handful of times to serve dinner or lunch with my husband and friends. The establishment is very well organized and you learn the ropes of serving rather quickly. It's really amazing see the fruits of you labor from an afternoon or evening serving others. The smiles are abundant and there is positivity all around. It's a humbling and beautiful expereince. The community, staff and volunteers have always been incredibly friendly and make every visit truly enjoyable. This is such a wonderful organization to give back to. They provide you the opportunity to bring smiles to many. Serving in the kitchen for dinner or lunch only takes 1 to 2 hours. It is time well spent. Please know that when you donate your time, your dollars (or both) you are truly helping the Las Vegas Mission change lives for the better. I urge you to give what you can to make Las Vegas a better community for everyone.

Yelp
I like the mission I defended the mission, but tomorrow me and my son are being put out because i said the director of the shelter of hope was unreceptive and less tham compassionate to my situation. He accused me of going off on his staff without asking me if I had. When in reality his staff had accused me of being difficult and had yelled at me in their frustration. I defended myself and my character because if I'm not to holler at anyone why should that behavior be tolerated by staff. I had a health and safety concern for the children... None of my issues were addressed. I was told i was biting the hand that fed me, but they only get salary because we have needs. I am not feed by staff they get paid to do the service... The donors feed us, and they ration it. What a thing to say. He called me ungrateful, but I'm grateful and I give also. I just find myself and my son in need. He told me to take care of me and my son. I told him that all I do is take care of my son to which he replied," Well apparently not." While rasing the incident forms to me which is the only tool we have to communicate, and the only avenue we have to voice concerns. I was told it was excessive and brushed aside. I was told that I was ungrateful because I didn't want to be treated differently based upon someone's personal feelings, and because I said I defended the mission and defended the security staff I was upset that he did not even listen. I was not heard and the children are having respitory issues because the vents are dirty. I was not heard and because I voiced tje truth of how I was treated I was retaliated against and put out. I know we can be turned away for any reason, but putting someone out with their child who has no place to go because you have a personal vendetta and not because they are doing anything wrong seems heartless. I haven't broken any rules since we spoke, and when I broke a rule i stepped out to get evidence in court because we are not allowed oitaide before 430 but it was 6 am in GA where I needed to make a call to. I won in court with that evidence, but though they break policy as they see fit, allow the women with service did to leave their animals unattended which against federal law, I was written up when I had a legitimate issue. No one cared to show me grace our mercy. Most places are closed the weekend. I was given no notice and I have to leave the state to find another shelter, and because I had no notice have to be outside until Monday until Social Services open. Who treats people with no place to go like this. I have never been treated like this in any other place I have been in. I will always ensure the best for my child with or without a shelter, but I had to make this know because I feel like it is severely wrong. I was basically told to act like I have no place to go, and I feel sorry for another woman in my situation who isn't as confodent in the Lord. They claim to be a Christian institution, but I was told," Look at all yhe time were spending on you, and we could be doing other things." But, the heart of Christ is not that way, and for them to treat people like they are a burden and not as if they are important to the God they claim to believe in serve is less than an hinest representation. I just want people to know what they are giving to, and there is a less than honest representation of what is happening here. There are people who use their power and the fact people have no place to go to silence honest concerns. I never thought if I was in a place that cared when I came to someone about a health and safety concern for my child in a setting like this it would fall on deaf ears. The vents are messed up, there is mold in the shower, but that mans watch is niiiiccce and his office furniture is emaculate. I am vocal, and I dont like to feel like I'm being bullied. If I was in his position, and he was in mine, I would have not treated him that way. The biblebsays a fool answers a matter before he hears it, and I was not heard, and treated like I should be grateful to even have their conversation and time. They are not better because they are not homeless, and I'm not ungrateful or a bad mother because I say it is not right for someone to treat another human being with such disregard especially when we are in a crisis situation. I pray that God vindicates me, and judges righteously. I just had to let this be known. For the sake of the communities and families that come in. I found two jobs while I was here and secured child care. I was up fault with my child in the sweltering heat trying to piece our lives back together and this man chose to cripple me instead of listen and show me the commission and live of God. Why would someone cut someone off at the knees who had made such progress or feel that I was not worthy of 15 minutes of legitimate understanding.

Yelp
This place is very humbling. Go there to volunteer one time and you will understand what I mean by very humbling, I saw kids that were there to get food, old people and sick people and even people my age group were there! Full of homeless people who rely on the rescue mission to provide food.. The food they serve was a good amount of food, I was surprised how many different items they give those people.. It's very fulfilling to serve a good cause.

Yelp
I am a fairly new resident of Las Vegas so I am always looking for ways to get more connected with the city I now call home. I heard through a friend that volunteers were needed to help out with dinner service at the mission and decided to sign up. The people who organize and run the kitchen do an amazing job. The kitchen and dining room were all set for dinner service by 5pm. Diners entered in groups and were served quickly and with love. I would like to see my school's cafeteria run this smoothly and with such ease. Seeing the love and caring of the volunteers and organizers was very infectious. The hour passed very quickly and then it was time to clean up. I would describe my first experience there as very intense and emotional. Admittedly it was tough to see over 400 people in need of a warm meal. I am so thankful that there is a warm and welcoming place like the LVRM to give a bit of love to those who are in need.

Yelp
I've been here a few times to work in the kitchen, serving food for the homeless and it is always a great and humbling experience. The homeless as well as the workers are all so thankful and kind to us, and volunteering with other organizations helped me connect with more people in the community who share the same interest and values as my service organization. Any complaints I've had before coming into the kitchen suddenly vanishes when I leave because I get a reminder of how privileged I am with my current life. I love the whiteboard near the sink, because everyday they share a new Godly quote to keep in mind. They also pray every time before meal time and that's sometime I appreciate a lot. This is a great place to do your community service hours, or just to volunteer and help out in the community. God bless the Las Vegas Rescue Mission for so much love and hope!

Yelp
What a great organization. I volunteered at the Mission with work and was so happy that I did. We forget how lucky we are to have good jobs, enough food & a roof over our heads. It was great to give my time to help people in need and be reminded to be thankful every single day for all that I have. I also really enjoyed seeing how the regular Mission employees connect with the families that come in. They genuinely care & want to help every person who walks through the door. Please don't forget to donate some of your time this Holiday Season or whenever you can. Give back to your community!

Yelp
The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is a very special place. They offer refuge and sanctuary to the homeless, feeding on average 1100 meals daily. They are also a Recovery Program for individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addictions. This place changes lives. Every Thanksgiving they give away turkeys and food baskets on a massive scale, and in 2012 they gave away over 1500 turkeys to families in need. They repeated this in 2013 and continue to be an instrument and beacon of hope and help in the community. Their recovery program for individuals, both men and women suffering from substance abuse disorder/addictions is second to NONE, and world class. Most importantly it is free; so anyone needing help can find it here.

Yelp
I like this charity, and I volunteer with them, also do their meet-up group to hand out hygiene kits. BUT....I HATE the atmosphere of 'here's some help, now say you love Jesus'. It almost seems militant. That and if you work in the kitchen you are forced to listen awful Christian music. Christian music isnt always bad, but this is. If this place were interfaith tolerant, it would look a lot better to me. I would even feel more comfortable volunteering if someone wasn't shouting about Jesus every ten seconds. It's pretty awkward, really.

Yelp
Been trying to get information about the recovery program for over two weeks and NO ONE calls back!! How is this even legal if it's a federally funded program. I would love a job there so I can get a paycheck and not have to work for it. Who can I contact to report this place??

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about the Mission. Everyone involved really works hard to make sure those in need are provided all the help possible. A meetup group does an event here every Saturday and is always looking for extra hands. I go as often as I can and it's a really rewarding experience. Love volunteering here and seeing the effect of good deeds.

Yelp
the hubby and i joined some fellow yelpers for a day of giving back as part of yelp helps month. i was surprised at how clean and extremely organized the entire operation was. i'm definitely not one who lives with my head buried in the sand but you'd be surprised at what you don't realize until you experience it first hand. although i'm aware that we have a growing population of homeless and "in-need" people in town, i wasn't prepared for the crowds that came in that day. i think we fed something like 300+ people in one short hour. it was an eye opening experience and there were quite a few moments where i had to hold back the tears. everyone was so extremely grateful. from the volunteer staff to the residents to the folks we were serving, "thank yous" were in abundance all day long. at the end of our "shift", i was filled with many emotions but most of all, i felt grateful for how fortunate i am. we take so many things for granted every day of our lives. i'm now more enlightened and humbled by this experience. the folks at the rescue mission have dedicated their entire lives to improving the lives of others. they are true heroes in our community and selfless beyond measure.

Yelp
I volunteered here today for their Christmas event. Families in need brought their kids and their kids received Christmas gifts, selected from some clothing, took photos with Santa, received cookies, hot chocolate, and candy canes, and left with big smiles. There were some very needy families and it felt great to help out.

Yelp
If you feel like giving back to the community this is a good way to do it. This organization does not have any government assistance so they are always grateful to have volunteers or donations. I was able to volunteer and the experience was great. You can have the opportunity to help in their thrift store or serving food to their residents or homeless. I know some of the most busiest days are Tue and Thursdays, for more info please visit their website!

Yelp
Today we drove to the mission to drop off things for the thrift store and had bags of personal health products. My wife and I have been doing this for the last few years. When we arrived at the drop off area there wasn't anyone to greet us and the area outside was filled with bags and boxes of articles and items. The wind is blowing very hard and this material will start being blown away. We weren't looking for a receipt but did want to know where to drop off the items for personal health. The warehouse looked like it was full. We have decided to change our donations to somewhere else, and the fact that the CEO has decided this was not going to be a Christian based mission we should go to elsewhere, most likely Salvation Army. I read all the inputs from the people who volunteer and the experience with them sounds like it is very gratifying, but are they aware of what is happening in the background?

Yelp
I have helped serve the community over a handful of times at this location. Every experience has been fulfilling and humbling. The volunteer coordinator, Marcus (the point of contact via email and also the coordinator at the location on our days of helping) is helpful and patient. On all occasions, I had teens aged 12-17 in our group. For some of them, it was their first time experiencing/making direct contact with those less fortunate. Marcus always assigns the teens/younger adults the jobs that have direct interaction, as he feels that is where they will benefit the most. It is a good strategy. I have served during both dinner time slots, and have also spent hours with my group, organizing the food donation pantry. The processes have always been efficient and organized. I am so glad there are such places like this that take care of those who need the help, and that allow us community members to be directly involved. For just a few short hours here, you can make a big difference. I will continue to spend my time here and serve those who show up for a hot meal and a full belly.

Yelp
Throughout our daily routine, throughout Las Vegas, we come across so, so many that are desperate for food, clothing, shelter or help is some way. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission has it's door open to help feed, shelter and help those that are in great need of some assistance. It is by far, one of the best community service organizations that you will ever encounter. I highly recommend that you reach out to them to see what you can do to give back to our great community.

Yelp
Anyone who is looking to volunteer in Las Vegas, start here. The staff is very friendly. I just had my first experience at their dinner service. It is very organized, clean, and those who are in need are very gracious and friendly as well. Will definitely continue to volunteer here, they do great work and have established meaningful relationships with those in need.
