The 15 Best Restaurants For A Pre-Theatre Or Post-Theatre Dinner - London - The Infatuation

"You’re never quite sure what you’re getting with theatre-adjacent restaurants. But at Lasdun, you’re guaranteed comforting, swish British food in a stylish restaurant inside the National Theatre. The Brutalist lines and textures of this restaurant give it an Orwellian feel but, pre-theatre, it’s full of a humming and happy crowd. Go for the set menu—with things like smoked haddock fish cakes, pot roast ham, a chocolate and buckwheat tart—and you’ll be happy." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

"Inside the Brutalist blocks of the National Theatre, lies this buzzy brasserie named after the building’s architect, Denys Lasdun. The sparse modern décor is accompanied by an abundance of exposed concrete, while the cooking has the same seasonal British ethos as the Marksman pub, which comes from the same owners. A good dose of flavour is extracted from the quality produce, while sharing dishes – like chicken, leek and girolles pie – are also on offer." - Michelin Inspector

The 18 Best Restaurants Around Bankside & Southwark - London - The Infatuation

"You’re never quite sure what you’re getting with theatre-adjacent restaurants, but Lasdun, from the team behind the Marksman, delivers. This stylish restaurant inside the National Theatre has Brutalist lines and textures, but comforting British food—buns, pies to share, and a lush brown butter and custard tart. Plus, it doesn’t get much more convenient than rolling straight from the swish dining room to seeing Mark Rylance in something moody in under 60 seconds." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

The 14 Best Restaurants In Waterloo & South Bank - London - The Infatuation

"There’s a solid menu of comforting British food in this stylish restaurant inside the National Theatre from the Marksman folks. Lasdun’s Brutalist lines and textures give it an Orwellian feel but, pre-theatre, it’s full of a relatively soft crowd humming and happy to be down from the Cotswolds. Mid-show, things are much more quiet. There’s a two or three-course menu that hovers around the £40/£45 mark, and if you keep to the classics—the delicious buns, pies to share, a lush brown butter and custard tart—you’ll be happy." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna

Lasdun - Review - Waterloo - London - The Infatuation

"You’re never quite sure what you’re getting with theatre-adjacent restaurants. But given Lasdun’s lineage (it’s from the Marksman folks), there’s a solid idea of comforting, swish, British food in this stylish restaurant inside the National Theatre. The Brutalist lines and textures of this restaurant give it an Orwellian feel but, pre-theatre, it’s full of a relatively soft crowd humming and happy to be down from the Cotswolds. Mid-show things are much more quiet. I really enjoyed this restaurant. The selection of dishes was original, and the flavors were wonderful, especially the squid and the fish. The bread was delicious. The service was excellent, and they paid special attention to allergies. The cocktails were also very good. The atmosphere was nice, and so was the music.

How amazing to find a quiet restaurant overlooking the Thames, minutes away from all the hubbub. The food was wonderful, the staff attentive and kind. Would have liked vegetables with my delicious duck but otherwise 100% superb. A good tribute to Lasdun who designed the magnificent National Theatre building.

Very friendly and professional staff. Accommodating for our late hours. Short but decent wine list. Food is alright. We booked their private dining room for birthday. Impeccable service. Highly recommended.

I stopped by Lasdun for a quick pre-show treat last Friday and was pleasantly surprised. Ula and Emily provided warm, attentive service that really made the visit memorable. The apple and blackberry pie with custard was outstanding. The Earl Grey soft serve leaned a little sweet for my taste, but the flavour was lovely and the portion very generous. Overall, it’s a great spot for a pre-show coffee and dessert or a meal— I’d happily return.

Great pretheatre offering, very reasonable and food was delicious and beautiful, atmosphere was vibrant -busy but could enjoy easy conversation. Service was professional: prompt, helpful and friendly (as always) we will keep coming back. Ps the best chips in London.

Wow. What a surprise (maybe I’m provincial in not being prepared for this place). Fantastic all around experience pre-theatre. Welcoming manger (‘of course we can keep your coats till after the show’), great food at great price - halibut ‘good enough for Jehovah’, to quote the Python’s; cold pressed ham directly transported me to Paris, the steak and cep pie on next table looked amazing. Great martini and manhattan. We will be back even sans theatre.

Great value, accurately cooked set lunch. A deeply flavoured Cornish fish soup was followed by crisp skinned duck leg with meltingly soft flesh and, for dessert , a refreshing lemon granita. We arrived at 2pm but were not rushed despite most diners had left for the matinee.
