L'Assaggio

"L'assaggio means taste! Chef Ugo Alciati (from the Guido Ristorante, in Piedmont) is behind the menu of this elegant restaurant in the Castille Hotel. As expected, northern Italy takes pride of place: homemade agnolotti, risotto minute. All of which served in an inner patio, adorned with a fountain and frescoes." - Michelin Inspector

Had dinner here on the Christmas Eve. Atmosphere was nice but the placement of our table was not great. It was situated right next to the water cabinet. Being a Christmas Eve, the place was busy and due to the rush, the servers would open and close the cabinets harshly which made it really noisy. From my experience, this place comes across as a set meal casual dining rather than fine dining. Service was alright, server was nice. But upon arrival, there was no one to attend to us. After some time, someone came and asked us to sit by the entrance sofas. As we waited for at least 15minutes, it started to get ridiculous and we made our way to the counter to question why our table wasn’t ready. Only then, they checked and brought us to our table. Minus one star by then. However, I must applaud a service staff who was much more professional and seemed to be the manager. He didn’t throw our plates on the table like other staffs did and also gently ensured our utensils were straight. He seemed to appeared halfway through the meal and was checking on every table when he can. Food was..not good haha. Pumpkin cream with tangerine was alright but nothing interesting. Starter, The carpaccio dish was warm and the amberjack fish was not tender. The whole plate felt..bland. I was also quite mad that the dish had a terribly sour lime and multiple seeds. Personally, I hate when chefs include ingredients solely for presentation. Because I actually thought the lime was supposed to go with the dish and tried to eat it, ffs. Mains, Lobster ravioli was alright. The fillings and sauce was nice but the ravioli itself was undercooked so the pasta was hard and inedible. Mains, Guinea fowl. Ive included photos of the uncooked meat. Also, I really don’t know what the meat filling was, but it was so dry and tasteless…Further, the truffles were not stuffed as described in menu, but instead grated on top of the meat. Mash potato was not creamy and fluffy..GRR Dessert, Panettone with cinnamon ice cream. Couldn’t taste one bit of cinnamon and the panettone was as hard as a rock. For $105pp, it was a waste of money. We also ordered couple of cocktails, which were alright but not tasty. I did mention the food was not great to the server but he responded nonchalantly that it’s not for everyone. I get it though, because there are many who rate this place on google review, but I am just not one of them. I will not be back. But not like they care lol.

Everything was amazing. Service and food 10/10. I strongly recommend the ice cream, it’s one of the best I’ve eaten.

Google
One of the best upper scale Italian restaurant in town. Starters quite interesting, the poached egg in mushroom sauce is delicious. Try the tiramisu! Special mention to the staff: friendly, efficient.

The restaurant is beautiful and very nicely furnished. The food that we ordered was good, but not great. The service was good and friendly.

Overall the food were ok, the price is very friendly with the amount of food served. If you like large portion here is the place to visit.

Food was uninspired, predictable, bland with too much crème and butter. We selected signature dishes and were disappointed. Service was horrible, with only 4 tables, servers were inattentive and slow. Would not go back.

Nice environment with a lovely inside courtyard terrace. Unfortunately the food was severely underwhelming, especially we booked this restaurant through Michelin’s website. Mocktail was watery and needed to be redone twice to get it right. Some staff barely understood any French, and they could use more staff during peak hours. The asparagus pasta was almost “swimming” in oil and almost indigestible. It’s definitely one of those “Instagram friendly” but with low ROI kind of restaurants.

Amazing food and genuinely welcoming and friendly staff. We travelled to Italy with the delicious and beautifully presented dishes, especially the vitello tonatto (A must try ). Thanks to the chef and all the wonderful team.

Yelp
Our first night in Paris, we were supposed to go to Alba for the Truffle fair but had to pivot and change plans. OK - if we can't go to Italy let's have some Italian food. Not only Italian food, this chef is from the famed Guido's in Serralunga d'Alba - we had a reservation at Guido's that we had to cancel. A classic dish I've seen on every menu in the region - Vitelli Tonnato (Veal in tuna sauce) - always sounded weird but was spectacular - Agnolotti del plin : braised meat ravioli, they serve 2 without cooking as an aperitif - Artichokes with truffle and lemon and the famous Fior Di Latte ice cream made to order from bianca modenese milk from Stura Valley served with salted butter caramel. Nothing like great Italian food in France!

Yelp
Food was cold and not very good, only thing worse was the service. Took an hour for our appetizer to arrive and another hour for our dinners. They Apologized and offered Foie gras, even though we told them my wife was a Vegetarian. We had to Physically get up out of our chair to find our waiter. Worse experience in our three country vacation this trip.

Yelp
I stayed at Castille Paris towards the last leg of my trip and I wished I stayed here longer! L'Assaggio is the hotel restaurant and we decided to dine here on our last night in Paris. It's white truffle season so we had the option of adding truffles to various items on the menu as well as having the truffle chef tasting menu. We opted to go for the a la carte menu so we could share each other's dishes and get various bites. I don't know what made me try out The Perfect Egg dish but I'm so glad I did. It was honestly the best thing I had every tasted! I can't even explain the flavor profile. It was light and airy but full of flavor! The truffle flavor was fully developed and it lingered so you could savor the flavors for a few more seconds. If you've ever had the Truffle Explosion from Alinea, this was 10x better than that! The tagliatelle with white truffles was good as well as the tiramisu but I always go back to The Perfect egg as it was truly perfection! Would highly recommend this spot and if you go, say hi to the hotel cat, Heliot!

Yelp
Very disappointing dining experience. This was to be our special night in Paris -- given the Michelin star rating. Well -- this is not a Michelin restaurant. At least not compared to those I have enjoyed over the years. Ambience is uncomfortable. Too bright. Feels like a repurposed hotel breakfast restaurant. Room is crowded and noisy. The children next to us were not behaved and quite noisy. Server was less than proficient. Mixed up the wine order. Was taking too many tables and thus unresponsive. She not once returned to check on our meals. While the starter was lovely, the main fish was dry and flavorless. We left before dessert we were so disappointed. And this is a very expensive restaurant for the quality. I would rather eat in the Latin Quarter -- at least there is character and flavor in the meal. And the servers care that you have a good experience. Do not recommend. Will not return.

Yelp
Magnifique! I spent my birthday in Paris at the Castille Hotel and had nothing short of an amazing experience but ESPECIALLY because of my dinner at the restaurant the night before I left. The food was absolutely amazing the service was great, I couldn't have asked for more. Every dish was perfect. I was lucky to have enjoyed.
