The Best Indian and South Asian Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This Indian-influenced cafe with locations in South Lake Union and Fremont serves up variations on the classic lassi, a tangy-sweet Indian yogurt drink. Flavors range from blueberry cardamom to pistachio and the café serves up a number of snacks and Indian sweets to pair it with. Those lassis and an assortment of small dishes and sweet treats such as ladoo are available for takeout and delivery." - Alicia Erickson

Which Coffee Shops Have the Best Food in Seattle? - Eater Seattle

"This South Lake Union shop’s menu features a selection of lassis, chais, and coffee brewed from Indian-grown beans. The food menu is entirely vegetarian, and combines traditional flavors with modern interpretations. Standouts include the Mumbai sliders — potato patties with chutney on Hawaiian rolls — and mini samosas. There’s also a Wallingford outpost." - Megan Hill

10 Great Meals For $10 In Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Your Order: Samosa Chaat or Vada Pav Sliders ($8.00) This coffee shop in South Lake Union makes for a great pit stop to pick up some pistachio lassi, and if you’re hungry, their samosa chaat is a pretty fantastic way to spend $8. It starts with an already delicious bowl of chana masala, and then they go and top it with mint chutney, yogurt, sev, and fried samosas. There’s a lot of crunch balanced with the creamy curry, and it’ll warm you up on a cold day better than a Canada Goose parka ever could. Another fantastic way to spend $8? Lassi & Spice’s vada pav sliders. Take your pick." - Aimee Rizzo

Lassi & Spice - Review - South Lake Union - Seattle - The Infatuation

"If you want to grab an espresso drink flavored with cardamom or Bournvita (malted chocolate powder), Lassi & Spice is the coffee shop for you. But they also serve a small lunch menu with things like chana masala topped with yogurt and mini samosas. The best dish, however, is the vada pav sliders, which are potato fritters with mint chutney, peanut sauce, and a sweet and salty glaze on Hawaiian rolls that we’d happily bring to a Huskies tailgate. Everything here is less than $10, including the made-to-order pistachio lassi." - Aimee Rizzo

Was very excited to try this place for a long time as their menu is great! My review is mixed, based on particular dishes: Bournvita shake, aloo paratha, vada pav were great. Poha was very dry and bland, the chai was okay and I had higher expectations from bun maska but it was overall okay. Samosa was okayish too. Overall liked the menu, the service and the ambiance. Will definitely come back if I have the chance.

Google
I am a rather frequent customer to lassi and spice. So many good item. But this time giving review for Bombay cheese sandwich. Not worth the price. Taste is average you may not feel authentic Indian taste. Staff polite and friendly. Good ambience to sit. If not for that sandwich item, other items i tried in past they are good. I keep updating this review as i try more cuisines.

Google
Absolutely love Lassi & Spice! Their spice bowls are flavorful, comforting, and always hit the spot — perfect blend of spices without being overwhelming. And the chai? So good — rich, aromatic, and just the right amount of sweetness. Each variety has its own unique character, and I love trying different ones every visit. Cozy place, great service, and consistently delicious food. Highly recommend!

It's sad, but I think the restaurant owners need to wake up. You just can't sustain with a good location, when your experience and food suck. Had an extremely hard time ordering via their recommended Square app. Started with 12 items and it suggested I use ez cater. Ez-cater didn't even pull up L&S. Tried calling the restaurant, but the number was busy (from 3 pm to 12 noon the following day !!). Eventually changed menu to pickup on following day 2 pm, split the order into two to help place it. If u really want to order from here, use doordash and nothing else. Was suspicious, so went to this restaurant around lunch the following day to confirm my order and few things (didn't want to miss my social event in a couple of hours). They fixed the phone when I told them it was not working. Next they claimed they didn't have any square order in their system. I had to show the email confirmation and have them take the order again. The person at the restaurant behaved as though this is normal. When asked, they said the owners manage online menu and they can't help it !!. At least the other workers at the restaurant apologized and acknowledged this wasn't correct. Went in the afternoon to pick up my food. Surprise, the food was ready, the Square order receipt was attached to the package !!!!! Was a bit confused why they didn't have the order earlier, but got the food and told them this confusion was not necessary. Eventually we had the lassi and chai. None of us found it authentic nor tasty and the quality barely compensated for the hassle. Jackfruit lassi has no jackfruit flavor. Masala chai was terrible. It felt like these were made using some instant mix, artificial flavors. Downgrading from 3 to 1 star as a result.

Google
Lassi & Spice brings a menu of curated Indian dishes from across different parts of the country together beautifully to remind us of the comfort of these items as we remember them from back home in India.

Google
Yummy and simple Indian food. We came for a warm, hearty breakfast- tried the idli sambhar and pav bhaji. The pav bhaji was really good. The mango lassi was ok.

Anytime I work in the SLU area I always choose Lassi and spice. Love their Lassis, sweet cardamom lattes and their food that can be made vegan. It’s very welcoming and vegan friendly! The rewards system is great too!

Yelp
Loved the creamy lassis and flavorful snacks! A cozy spot with great Indian street food vibes. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
Love the food and the home cook and charming ambiance. The story of how this place got started was beautiful. It is one of those places where you felt great after eating. Food tasted very 'healthy. The service is prompt and friendly. I love that they paid their staff living wage and tipping is not required. I had the Spice bowls. It was very filling. Chose the sambar (lentil soup) and Poha (lemony rice pilaf). The spice was 3.5 stars spicy. Perfect for me. The rice pilaf had lots of roasted nuts. The pickled veggies were very appetizing. Overall I had great lunch that is satiating but not overly stuffed. I look forward to returning.

Yelp
I was recently craving Indian food and a lassi. As far as I know Lassi and Spice is the only restaurant nearby that offers vegan lassis, and they are SO DELICIOUS. In the past I tried the blueberry cardamom one (highly recommend!), but this time I wanted to try another flavor. I was in luck, since their seasonal lassis right now is jackfruit, which I love. It was so refreshing! I also ordered the non-vegan samosas with a mixed green salad topped with a turmeric dressing, and it came with two pieces of flatbread. The folks behind the counter were nice and courteous, and the food was brought out pretty quickly. Everything was really tasty and had great flavors and textures. The cafe is welcoming with a modern and bright atmosphere. It was also really clean and tidy. I like that there was a convenient sections for flatware, water, and bussing your dishes that were routinely taken care of.

Yelp
Loved the food and the service was great. Highly recommend the jackfruit lassi - get it while you can cuz it's seasonal!

Yelp
The ginger chai tea with oat milk is absolutely delicious here! I got takeout on a Sunday afternoon with my pup in his stroller. Note that they only allow service animals, but I missed the sign since I had my eyes set on grabbing a quick drink..and went in with my stroller (that had my senior dog in it) I was able to order and pay and thankfully one of the nice ladies in the cafe offered to bring my drink while I waited outside. She even put tape on the drink lid because she knew I'd be walking around. 5 stars because she was really sweet about it! Next time I have my pup, I'll bring my husband so he can stay outside with Pablo. I look forward to trying their lassis and other items!

Yelp
My rating: 2.5/5!!! I was so excited when my friend told me that Lassi & Spice in Seattle has the Mumbai classic - Vada Pav!! I ordered their Vada Pav sliders through DoorDash app. The Service didn't take too long to make the sliders but may be, the delivery through the app did. There were 3 small sliders. By the time I got my order, the pav became very soggy. The Vada Pav was so blah in taste. Being a Mumbaikar, if you're going to sell a Vada Pav under the label as "Mumbai Classic" I can't help but be a harsh critic if the dish lacked the authentic flavor. It was more like potato pattie with no other spices and ingredients like garlic, ginger, cumin and chili. Only reason I gave 2.5 rating is because the green, tamarind and peanuts garlic dry chutney was good and added that extra kick! I was highly disappointed.
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
I had Lassi & Spice a few years ago as takeout, during the pandemic, and recalled the food being quite delicious and with good portions. I came back again to redeem some Grubhub credits for the month and ordered the Vada Pav, Hawaiian buns with potato patty, and I opted to get all 3 chutneys inside: peanut garlic, green, and tamarind. The portions are okay for the price, but the food is a bit disappointing. The potatoes are not cooked all the way and there is still potato skin, and they are not that flavorful. The chutneys are very skimped, but they used the tamarind chutney the most which dominated the other 2 chutneys. Food came out quick, but the quality is definitely not what I remembered.

Yelp
Decent spot for light snacks and drinks! Indian drinks like lassi and haldi dood! You can make any lassi vegan for $1 No parking. Limited seating. Quick service. No samples. Cute ambiance

Atul A.

Yelp
While visiting SLU in Seattle this is very good place to eat typical Indian snacks like bhaji, pohe samosa chat , batate wada with Lassi or coffee table end with. Good price points and decent variety. Service is friendly. Overall Nice and comfy space.

Yelp
I live really close and decided to give it a try on a Saturday at 5 PM. When I walked in all the tables had people sitting, but there were some bar seats, so it was nice to see that it was reasonably popular! The place is order at a counter, then bus your own dishes if you choose to eat in store. I went up to the counter to order, and noticed quite a few things on the menu were out of stock. No issue for me, and I ordered a samosa chaat and a blueberry cardamom lassi. My lassi came out first and quite quickly, and it was quite good! The blueberry flavor was quite mild which was good since the overall drink was not overly sweet. I'll definitely be back to try the pistachio and mango flavors! My samosa chaat also came out maybe 10 minutes later, really well packed as I asked for it to-go. It was warm, and when I first started eating it all the crunchy parts were still crunchy suggesting it was freshly put together! It tasted as expected, and I had no issues with it. I'll definitely be back to try other items!

Yelp
Stopped in for a mango lassi! It tasted great. We didn't have time for a snack but maybe next time.

Divya S.

Yelp
Vada pav and Pav bhaji was bland in taste. I wish it had more flavors like authentic ones. Thankfully they provided chili's with vada pav which helped in getting a spice kick. No comments on service or ambiance as this was a to go order.

Nitesh A.

Yelp
Good food and vibe! Great little place at SLU. Must visit!!! Simply loved it and absolutely recommend.

Yelp
My office is near this place and I thought I'd try it out. They have simple yet inclusive menu. Everything looked good. I got sambar and rice. It tastes good for sure but the quantity for the price is way too low. I wouldn't recommend this place based on their super high prices. Will get my food from chipotle rather. The staff is nice. There is not designated parking so you would have to find street parking which could be tricky at this location. The place is cutely decorated though! Response to the business's reply: the portion size I got was 1/3 of what I get at chipotle. I guess your definition of generous portion is different from a lot of us.

Priya A.

Yelp
Good food and vibe! Great little place at SLU. Must visit!!! Simply loved it and absolutely recommend.

Yelp
First time here... the little potatoe sandwich things were super yummy. The vegetable stew with lemon rice was very spicy but still delicious! Oatmilk Chai tea is amazing!

Pranay D.

Yelp
I loved the food especially the brownie it was very delicious and yummy. It is also a very welcoming place and gives positive vibes!

Yelp
I got the samosa chaat here and it tastes wonderful with a variety of ingredients perfecting the taste of mixing sweet and spice together! The customer service was friendly and helpful, and the ambiance was festive with colorful Diwali decor! They have a bunch of beverage options as well and the chai is warm and tasty on a cold Seattle day. Love this spot and will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Super cool concept for good grab and go spot for mango lassi and other Indian bites. The mango lassi was good but could have been better. They have a lot of food options that I wasn't able to try but I'd come back!
google avatar

Parth S.

Yelp
This place has fast-casual Indian street food that is very cheap & your food is served very quickly. The restaurant has enough seating for you to enjoy your food there, or you can take it to go. I'd recommend the vada pav, rose lassi & gulab jamun!
google avatar

Nainy A.

Yelp
I went here to get a quick indian breakfast via DoorDash pickup, No doubt the service was quick, but it wasn't worth for money I paid. It's very expensive while food was also not so great. The Wada was too dry and the potatoes filling was just potatoes. It wasn't close to indian fillings with peas and garlic. Frozen ones from Indian store tastes better. The Poha was also dry. I had to add haldiram sev bhujia (Indian snack) to add some flavour.

Apoorv T.

Yelp
The staff is friendly and good small shop. Their pav bhaaji and vada pav are really good for snacking. Chai is also decently made

Ballhog G.

Yelp
This place always does me justice! If you like premium food that tastes fresh and high quality at a great price then you should come here. The staff is always kind and gives good recommendations as well as the environment is welcoming.

Carmen P.

Yelp
I finally checked this place out after walking past it multiple times! I'm thrilled to find an Indian chai spot with an oat milk option. The oat milk masala chai paired well with the gulab jamun. I would've like the poha to be spicier, however, I can see myself reach for its muted flavors as a simple breakfast to ease one's stomach. It's a cute spot with options below $10, which is a rare gem in SLU and central Seattle.

Smrithi S.

Yelp
We had a late breakfast/brunch here recently. We got Upma, Idli Sambar, and Aloo Paratha. We didn't like the Upma, Idli sambar was good. The Aloo paratha was amazing, we loved it. I hope they had Aloo paratha to their regular menu and not just have it as a special.
google avatar

Janvi G.

Yelp
I would say this was pretty okay in terms of Indian flavour. I got the samosa chaat. It had a bunch of things like chana masala, chutney, etc. there was just too much going on in there. We also got one plate of Idlis. I didn't find the sambar as flavourful as it should have been.

Maya S.

Yelp
good lassi and they give you biscuits with the tea. Its a cute little cafe and overall a really great place :)
google avatar

Dhaval M.

Yelp
Found this nice place while strolling around Seattle downtown. The place is small but has got a nice vibe. The servers were polite and receptive. The menu reflects Indian street food with some authentic maharashtrain dishes. We order Pav Bhaji, Misal pav, batata vada, ginger tea and lassi. The Misal tasted really nice, it was more like Mumbai style Misal (not kolhapuri style). Pav bhaji and batata vada were decent, some improvements can be done here to make it more better. Chai and lassi both hit the spot on rainy Sunday evening. Will definitely come back when I visit Seattle again. I'd definitely recommend to checkout the place for quick bite.

Kim L.

Yelp
Delicious sweet and savory snacks! I really love the idli sambar and the pav bhaji, but everything I've tried has been great! The pav are so fluffy and perfectly toasted, and the idli are soft and pleasantly spongy, and each is the perfect complement to the paired veggie dish! I have pretty low spice tolerance, so the very mild heat of the plain pav bhaji is perfect, but it's good to know they can kick it up for those with different palates. Also love that they provide dairy-free options for the drinks!
google avatar

Anusha R.

Yelp
Omg I am so sorry but I don't want to give y'all even one star! I ordered bhel Puri and I have to tell you what a sorry excuse to chaat it was. I'd never imagine getting such a simple dish so wrong. I couldn't eat more than a bite. It was just tossed on a plate like nobody cares about that poor dish. The place has a very cute ambiance and I was really hoping for, if not great, just decent food. I don't know about the other dishes but I wasn't too hopeful after I had one bite of that horrible plate of bhel Puri. The cold coffee had a weird taste to it too. You can see in the images how bad it is. There was just puffed rice on water and it honestly looked so unappetising but I braved a spoon. Couldn't go beyond that. We felt really bad tossing food but we also couldn't eat it. Mango Lassi was decent.
google avatar

Karishma A.

Yelp
I have tried this place twice now and I am not planning to revisit Personally the food felt too bland. Atleast the online ordering didn't have an option to specify spice levels. I also don't understand why the buns are like the small Hawaiian buns instead of the more traditional Indian ones when those can definitely be found in Seattle area. Of the 2 things I tried I think vada pav - is still okay but still not anything like what I get in India. For pav bhaji - the flavour was not at all on point. Definitely do not recommend that.
google avatar

Tejal B.

Yelp
We were nearby visiting Pikes Place. And where hungry for some yummy Indian food appetizers, looked up on Yelp and came here. The Cafe is situated near Downtown area. They do have few parking spaces available in front of the cafe. The menu is not too fancy. We ordered their:- Poha- Poha which is made from flattened white rice cooked up with spices and vegetable is a breakfast staple which is enjoyed in India. I have never had Poha in US before, so was excited about it. Well it looks like they have a premix made and just add hot water to it. Good in taste. Vada pav- Its very funny when restaurants serve vada pav using slider buns or regular buns which have sweetener added to them. It just doesn't taste that good. But anyhoo they tasted decent. Karak Chai- I am a coffee drinker but my better half ordered chai, and his verdict was that it tasted like the ones sold on Indian Railway Stations which are well watered down. Cold Coffee- It mentioned on their menu display that its a new item. The funny part is I was given hot coffee. Seems the girl forgot that but irrespective it tasted like Indian coffee, mild but not too sweet. Its not an authentic Indian food place, but it will satisfy your taste buds.

Nicholas T.

Yelp
All the drinks we got were sub par at best, and I made a yelp account just to make this post. The peach mint lime fizz was entirely too syrup heavy that it was nearly undrinkable after threw sips. The sweet cardamom latte was so grainy that even for the hour after throwing out the drink after consuming maybe a third of it the residual ground were still around in my friend's mouth. The black coffee I ordered was perhaps the worst coffee I have ever purchased. Watered down, burnt and overly bitter. Lassi was not tried but I would not recommend going here for any other beverage. None of us finished our beverages.

Yelp
Felt quite unwelcomed and the food was just ok.. wont recommend to friends and family.. I can reheat frozen parathas at home and not walk 4 blocks for it Edit: First of all.. Owner should be considerate and not confuse me for someone else!! Whose Harsha?? Also I remember showing vaccination card and ID.

Rishi B.

Yelp
Great Rose Latte! Also, tried the Samosa Chat! will definitely visit again! Thanks! Re

Yelp
Saw this place on a friend's profile and had been wanting to try it. Firstly, they are take out only, at the moment! Love the variety and the limited number of options available. We ordered vada pav, samosa chaat and pistachio lassi. The samosa chaat was absolute yum! Perfect blend of sauces and spices. Vada pav order had 3 pieces, great for sharing between 2 people. First time trying pistachio lassi and it was really good. Love the fact that it was served without sugar. The interior is cute but we unfortunately we couldn't dine in this time. Will visit again soon!

Yelp
I was on a business visit and chose to stay close to Lassi and Spice after seeing pictures of Poha on yelp!! I was hoping to start off each day with healthy Indian vegetarian breakfast and Lassi & Spice did not disappoint me at all. Poha was just like home made (I cook maharashtrian food all the time), steaming hot and tasty. Masala chai was good and I really loved that they give you Parle-G, complimentary with tea or coffee. Vada pav was delicious, got 3 small vada pavs in one order, very filling and loved the green chillies with it. Rose lassi was delicious !!! Highly recommend it. What did not work for me was the idli / sambhar. Sambhar is better served hot, it was served luke-warm and the idlies simply didn't do it for me, they felt a bit chewy and the batter perhaps was not well fermented. Overall had a good experience. Would love to see them grow and also expand their menu.

Yelp
Really good lassis. (I got the strawberry and blueberry ones) The snacks weren't great, but I did love my M&M cookie.

Yelp
Okay Yelpers, It's time to open your eyes to Lassi and Spice! Clean, cute, non traditional coffee spot/food spot!!! Have you smelled the goodness that seeps out every time their front door is open? Things they are doing well: Customer Service! Location, clean, kind and friendly! Lassis come in a variety of colors and flavors. I didn't get to try the food but it looks delicious. It's downtown so parking won't be perfect, but if your passing by or are already parked, make the walk! As someone who is new the area, and will be in the area a lot I am very excited to have made friend with the spot. Great job to the owner and staff! Special shout out to the wonderful barista who was patient and helpful when ordering. *Ava helped me! Also their mission statement type thing that's on the wall when you walk in is darling and very well placed. 5 stars!

Craig H.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Nice aesthetics inside. Great food and prices. Will definitely be coming back again.

Yelp
Was walking around South Lake Union and decided to check out this place. It has a variety of Indian apps, and Indian twists on many drinks (ranging from tea, to lassis, to coffees). We got the vada pav, masala chai, and ginger chai. We were pleasantly surprised to find that everything tasted delicious and had a very familiar taste. The pricing is definitely on the higher side, especially for the drinks. There is not much seating in the establishment, and you'll most likely have to find parking on the street as well. Be prepared to take things to-go.

Vinita B.

Yelp
So good omg. Everything was amazing. This is the kind of breakfast I could have everyday!
google avatar

Aniruddh M.

Yelp
Very tasty Filter Coffee! Excellent service and cozy ambiance. Definitely visit again to try out other dishes they offer
google avatar

Sunny G.

Yelp
Very very small portion sizes for the prices. Dry/Firm Idli. Coconut chutney was watery and flavorless. Pav was dry/hard/unbuttered. Bhaji is the worst I've ever had. Mostly chunky under seasoned potatoes. Nothing about the Poha stood out. Upside was the sambar was flavorful. All the dishes were missing soul.
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
I lied - I have another new favorite place in Seattle, and it's Lassi & Spice! It's a cute little space across the street from another one of my beloved spots, Kai Market. Another thing to know about me - I LOVE lassis, and to see a menu with so many different flavors to choose from blew my mind. Even though I wanted to try everything, I opted for the blueberry cardamom and was not disappointed. Since we wanted something to nibble on, we also ordered the mini samosas and samosa chaat, which I also thoroughly enjoyed. I am definitely coming back!!
google avatar

Yelp
With coffee and tea on almost every block in Seattle, Lassi & Spice really stands out with its Indian-inspired drinks and snacks. A must-try if you're around the SLU area and want to shake up your regular cafe routine! I've always loved mango lassis and was pleasantly surprised by the large selection of other flavors here. So far I've had the golden lassi, rose lassi, and the mango lassi. Out of these, the golden was definitely my favorite: not too sweet, perfectly thicc, and packed with so many flavors. My one small complaint is in regards to consistency. I ordered the golden again during my most recent visit and it was not as deliciously creamy as it was the first time I had it; the texture almost seemed watered down compared to before. At $7, these are p pricey and more of a once in a while bev for me so I'd hope that it's amazing every time! Lassis aside, we have also tried the karak chai and masala chai. My boyfriend enjoyed them but I was less of a fan. Chai has always tasted like plain, bland milk tea to me and I'll always think it's too expensive for what it is. Will probs just stick with their other specialties from now on. The cafe itself is small, conveniently located, well decorated, and filled with spicy aromas. I really like their cute logo and think it would be awesome (and much more eco-friendly) if drinks were all served in branded mugs or glasses instead of single-use compostable plastic cups for guests staying in. Service has always been friendly and we noticed, in addition to a little paper sign with a feedback survey URL, that the owner was also there during one of our visits chatting with a customer about opportunities for improvement. I appreciate this cafe's efforts to keep growing and will return soon to try some snacks!

Yelp
I was determined to give this place another chance mostly because it's a small business and I would have loved to support them but their food is just terrible. Things taste exactly as bad as they look behind the counter. Idli are just not meant to be displayed in that way.. The only thing I like is their coffee and that's overpriced.
google avatar

Yen D.

Yelp
Got a gift card for $10 for Lassi and Spice and spent part of it on a mango saffron lassi. Was very nice and thick. I hope to come back and try their masala chai and a Chaat or two.

Yelp
I ADORE THIS PLACE! Like for real, it's on my top 5 favorite coffee shops. Their food is priced so well the quality and creativity are so on point and the FLAVOR in everything is so so quality! YOU MUST TRY THE SLIDERS! My tastebuds are dancing just thinking about it. There's the coffee shops/cafes that all seem to into a similar undistinguishable category and then their are places like Lassi and Spice. I truly hope they are surviving this pandemic because we need this place to be around for a long long time. Go support them now. You're welcome.
