Yelp
I moved up to the top of the mountain for years ago. This was the first place that I had dinner, as my very good friends loved the place and thought that we would like it to. They had full bar service, so my wife ordered a margarita while I had a large sweet tea. I ordered the meatloaf And the three women I was with ordered various salads.
The ambience of this establishment is really cool. Lots of antiques everywhere and there's a candy store upfront over by the bar. A candy store. A real one. With real candy. From like, a long time ago. Good candy. So before you leave, make sure you have a little extra money because you're gonna want some candy.
The drinks came, and they were well prepared and presented. The waitress was quick to bring me back an extra straw and extra sugar, and she smiled and asked if there was anything else she could do before our food came. "No," I replied, "you were very helpful." She smiled and off she went.
She returned with a huge platter of food. My meatloaf was a very large portion with very brown gravy, some delightful, looking mashed potatoes, and various vegetables as a side. And taking a fork full, I was not disappointed. It was very good. Better than mom ever made, and I'm really sorry mom, but that's true. You made horrible meatloaf, mom. This place more than makes up for it. I'll send you a Mother's Day card but it's the truth.
I met the owner, who was friends with our dining companions, and he was very friendly as well. He made great pains to learn our names as he knew we were new residents. I excused myself to be able to go and buy pounds and pounds of delicious gourmet candy.
I did mention that they had good candy, right? The old stuff along with locally made gourmet stuff. You know: salted caramel's, chocolate, covered salted caramel's, oversized peanut butter cups, that were made of all natural ingredients. Good stuff.
During the pandemic, this was the only place I would go in order to have delivered to car service, and I would always get the meatloaf. The owner would deliver it out to my car himself, because he knew I loved his food.
I can tell you certain things. There is food in this world that is very very fancy. There's a place for it. There is food in this world that is very very inexpensive. There is a place for that as well. There is a place in this world for comfort food, the kind of food that makes you just feel good, the kind that tastes good, that fills you up. This is that kind of food. The good kind of food. Unpretentious, but well-made of good ingredients and well plated.
I give it my highest recommendation. Eat here. Early and often.
