Highlights

Located in the historical Mission Brewery Plaza, in Midtown, San Diego, Latchkey Brewing Company is an Independent Craft Brewery. Located at the corner of West Washington and Hancock street, just feet from the I5 Washington St. exit and the Washington Trolly stop is at the doorstep. One of the few breweries to offer an outdoor biergarten and large indoor space, the taproom is fun, inviting and entertaining. Offering live entertainment, workshops and private event space. Latchkey works with local artists and display their work on our walls. The brewery has a capacity potential of 4k BBLs annually and while the team is passionate about what they do, they don't take themselves too seriously. Expect to interact with the brewers and owners when onsite and learn about their recipes, philosophies and brewing in general.

"Bitter Brothers Brewing Co., which operates a tucked-away tasting room inside a Morena Boulevard business park, launches a new permanent food component on Wednesday, September 15, in partnership with Royal Rooster chef and owner Cory Rapp that will hopefully help the five-year-old Bay Ho brewery bounce back from a hard stretch. For any industry, San Diego’s ever-changing pandemic-related restrictions and curfews are tough to weather, but the local brewing community has been especially impacted — particularly breweries that did not serve food which were finally allowed to reopen for outdoor service in March 2021. To keep the lights on, many breweries without food service were forced to scramble to find restaurants or food trucks to collaborate with; for Bitter Brothers Brewing Co., its temporary solution was a hot dog cart." - Candice Woo

Google
Really enjoyable brewery to stop and have a beer. It's off the beaten path, and they off a ton of different beer styles to choose from. It's an amazing place to visit in the sunny California weather. You can see the entire brewery and production facilities right when you walk in. It's a medium-sized tasting room with 2 bars to sit at and lots of tables with seating in the middle. Street parking and a parking lot on the side of the building.

Awesome spot with a solid variety of beers. Cold IPA was awesome. So was the doppelbock!

This place is awesome! Beers were great, empanada was too, and Ben was an incredible host!! Super friendly and took care of us really well 🙌🏼 highly recommend!

I've been coming to this spot since they opened a little over a year ago. A really outstanding brewery, which is saying something in so heavily a saturated market as San Diego. There's a lot of natural lighting and they keep the doors open which creates a nice natural breeze throughout the taproom. Their beers are really good! I like their It's My Jam, Bring Out the Gimp, and San Diego 1915. There's usually a lot of street parking available. Come by!

Google
I love Latchkey so much! They’ve got a great variety of brews on the menu and a lot of space indoors and outside to hang out while you drink. They also have a foosball table along with some televisions. They have a deal with a nearby pizza place where you can order pizza over.

Google
I came here a few weeks ago hoping to see something new in the craft scene, but alas, there was no new-ness here. Despite providing a clean and bright environment, this place offered nothing exciting both in terms of beers and ambiance. I could see this place doing ok in a small town, but in a place like San Diego, you need to differentiate yourself. On top of that, parking was awful.

Google
Glad to find this place. Only 2 years old. It was 4 year since our last visit to San Diego and happy to find them this trip. Porter was great, hubby had a flight of IPAs. All good😍

Fantastic and growing. Love this spot. Make sure you give it a go!

Yelp
Cool Bartender, Tasty Imperial Stout, Casual Tasting Room. I like this local brewer. Ultra Dog Friendly, good customers who all love dogs and beer (2 Green Flags), and different food trucks visit every weekend. Get the NOW YER SKREWED! Best beer on the menu. Say hi to the dogs, give them treats, be a good person.

Yelp
THEY ARE BACKKKKKKKKKK Latchkey Brewery - Your Morena Blvd Must-Visit! There's something brewing just off Morena Blvd, and it's not just the shopping carts at Costco. It's the return of the crowd-pleaser, the hop innovator, and, dare we say, the kings of cool vibes - LATCHKEY Brewery is back in action, and we're here for it! Our love story with LATCHKEY just got a new chapter when they swung open their doors to 30 crafty gals caught in an Easter weekend rainyyyyy storm. Their game? Unmatched. Their hospitality? Next level. They didn't just welcome us; they rolled out the red (brewery) carpet. Imagine a sanctuary where you can sip on artisan ales while rain pitter-patters outside. Where laughter echoes, and glasses clink. Where 'last minute' doesn't mean 'less magic.' That's the wonder of LATCHKEY. From the moment we huddled through their doors - arms laden with picnic baskets and arts and crafts supplies - the LATCHKEY team welcomed us like family. Their space, usually echoing with the clinking of glasses and the murmur of hop-fuelled banter, transformed into our makeshift picnic spot, all while the storm raged outside. The vibes? Think your coziest living room but with kegs of the best brews on tap. The staff are not just staff, they become your favorite friendliest tribe. LATCHKEY, with your bubbly enthusiasm and gracious hearts, you've become our go-to guide for fantastic brews and times. You are the latest and greatest in not just craft beers but in creating a community space where everyone is family, the atmosphere is warm, and the good times roll. Looking forward to storming the castle again, armed with nothing but our love for a great brewery and the spirit of togetherness. Here's to more unexpected picnics, arts and crafts, and your unbeatable brews. Cheers, LATCHKEY - you're truly San Diego's liquid treasure!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped by Latchkey for the first time earlier tonight to get a few beers. Within 5 minutes of entering we were harassed by some old 60 yo man (I'm guessing a regular) at the bar - he seemed to dislike everyone that's not a born and raised "local" and said something along the lines of "that's the problem, too many kooks around here" behind our backs as we walked towards a table. Very off putting and disrespectful as we didn't say anything to him except that we were from the east coast. Completely unprompted and this made us feel uncomfortable and close out our tab immediately. In fact I drank like 2 sips of my beer and decided to leave. We definitely will not be coming back to this brewery as it appears to be "localized" by some old guy that happened to be born and raised here. What a joke. Not sure what's so hard about treating people especially strangers with basic respect. But instead this old catty guy decided to talk smack within earshot of us.

Yelp
First time here scoping out places for a local group meeting and got called multiple names from a guy at the bar. Honestly one of the most uncomfortable atmospheres I've been in for a brewery (been to most in SD); this dude was unhinged and apparently "local" according to him. Small space, beer was undrinkable with what was going on, and it's really out of the way in comparison to other local brew pubs. There was no security or managerial presence to regulate anything, so felt unsafe for my girlfriend in the context above as well. Hate to write this but, yuck... skip and go to a more regulated/established place.

Yelp
Katie behind the counter was a delight. Got some recommendations from her and all beers were yummy. Not a sour guy but they just brewed "It's My Jam". Kettle sour with Rasberries. Delicious. Great little spot to stop by if you're shopping at Costco or about to go play some pickleball at Kings like I'm about to do. Beers are so good I don't even remember the name of the brewery that it used to be a month ago. Haha. That's for you Katie

Brad N.

Yelp
Great beers and food. The Pastrami Stand makes amazing pastrami dips. My favorite beer is an imperial stout aged in a Screwball whiskey barrel. Try a taster... Even if you're not a stout drinker, it's delicious.

Jesse S.

Yelp
First impressions it's very clean with a good vibe. View is awesome. I got a flight. Would definitely come back for the beer

Yelp
The customer service was great really nice beertender. My hubby said the beers were delicious. So 3 stars because they have nothing for people who are driving. Literally they have carb and sugar loaded waters and carb and sugar loaded soda in the bottle. No regular water in a bottle just tap which was really bad tasting.. I would go back if they had some choices for celiac people that wasn't loaded with sugar and carbs...

Yelp
Latchkey Brewing took over the space that used to belong to the previous brewery, Acoustic Ales. I haven't visited the area in a few years, so I was shocked to see a different name. However, I was glad to see that another brewery took its spot. We came by before flying out of the airport, so it was a great way to bid farewell to the city. We both ordered taster flights, which came in a grand total of 4 for $8. There is a wiiiiide selection. You've got your light pilsners and ales, then a good amount of IPAs, Belgians, and a select few sours and darker stouts and porters. There will definitely be something for everyone. I wasn't entirely blown away by all of the beers, but I enjoyed their hilarious beer names. My favorites were the monkey belgians and the Kickin' and Screaming hazy PA! Delicious and juicy. They also sell merch like tees, provide serve-yourself water, and have a partnership with a local Italian food truck. However, you have to call and place an order...then walk/drive over to pick it up if you don't want to wait 15 mins for delivery. We ended up not getting food truck eats, and brought our own snacks instead (sorry Latchkey! Didn't know if y'all were cool with that). Our taptender was a friendly bearded man who was SO wonderful. 5 stars to you sir for taking our polaroid pic for us. The setup of the space (especially where we were behind the sliding wooden doors) could be more thoughtfully curated. I LOVE that there's shuffleboard, fooseball, 2 TVs (awkwardly hung up) and large checkers! There is so much potential in this space, but there should totally be more moving around of furniture for better flow. The restrooms are clean though. The parking situation was rough for us because we didn't think to do street parking along Hancock St, so when we turned onto Washington (the busy street) we thought we could go down the one-way road to get parking structure spots. NOPE. Kurtz is a one-way, employee-only street. So customers beware! We ended up walking from our street parking area and later saw signs for parking in a parking structure, but ya have to pay for that.

Yelp
Hidden brewery with some great taps. Small outside patio but definitely fam friendly away from the road. Staff is hella friendly! Recs:Monk Abides (belgian dubbel), The Dreamer (WC IPA)

Lena Y.

Yelp
Beer tastes so much better when served on tap at a brewery and safely enjoyed with friends on a sunny patio! It's the little things during a pandemic! Street parking with some patio/courtyard seating. You do have to add a $4 food voucher to your order, but on that day, it was for Mariscos El Katrin food truck so I can't complain. I was in the mood for dark beers so had both the porter and imperial stout. Extra bonus: dog friendly!

Allie D.

Yelp
Enjoyed spending a Sunday afternoon at Latchkey. They were having a holiday pop up with local vendors selling miscellaneous items. They are dog friendly. They have games available to borrow - it is a fun place to check out as a group. I did a flight of their beer to try out. The brewery is tucked away so it wasn't over crowded, but still had a good amount of people & high level of energy.

Saleen D.

Yelp
Cool brewery in Midtown! I have been to this location before, but it was a different brewery. Nonetheless, this place serves some quality beer! They have sours, hoppy, & dark & malty. They have board games & corn hole, an outdoor patio, very spacious. Dog friendly. Bring Out The Gimp Stout: Bold & tasty.

Jenna G.

Yelp
Really awesome spot! Chill ambiance and a there is bunch of TVs! They had on the Padres game so even better. Bartender was super friendly & beer was bomb! My favorite part was how they chose to display their tap list. Super comprehensive and gave a detailed but quick insight into what is in every beer. Lovin it!

Arnel D.

Yelp
Stopped by here before heading to the airport. Its a small bar but don't let that fool you... this place is a cool spot to relax and throw back a beer or two or three! Not the easiest place to get to or even find parking but when you need a drink, they are here for you. Pricing is reasonable and service is excellent. I'll probably be back again when in the area. Cheers!

Carol S.

Yelp
If you like IPA's, this place is great! Small brewery feel which I love and beautiful courtyard area. They offer snacks and bottled soda for sale. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because: 1. Parking sucks on the weekend which isn't their fault 2. You can't take your drinks outside to enjoy that beautiful courtyard. :(

Jessica G.

Yelp
Awesome little semi hidden gem of a brewery. The Belgium brews are amazing; delicious and robust without being TOO heavy. Great location, no food hut love when they have the taco people and lucho libre is walking distance! Postmates for the win! Great setting, nice clean and casual perfect to meet with friends and games to play. Will return for a growler fill any day of the week!

Yelp
Latch Key kids need supervision. I am all for the guy who takes a risk but bad attitude and service along with no wine, parking, or food is a death sentence. It was Saturday night and my wife and I decided to check this place out as we live within walking distance. We were the only two people in this brewery. I hate to crush the small guys dreams but this place is soon to be space dust. Within the first few minutes I knew why we were the only ones there. The music was very niche exactly like the guy serving the beer and my wife couldn't get a glass of wine. The good news was there was Shuffleboard so I figured we would have a couple. Here is where it really went south and the reason for my review. I called out to the beer guy and asked if I could have another? He stared at his cell phone acting like he was deaf. I said HEY BOSS can I get another? He nodded and brought over another but only to our detriment. Right above the Shuffleboard table were four windows open allowing for a nice breeze, it was still warm out and the breeze was awesome. Beer guy starts shutting the windows. I asked him if he could keep them open for us and you will not believe his answer, he says "NO". The reason blew us away "I can't because I might forget to close them". Rather than argue I simple asked him "Do you think this place is going to make it?"

Crystal M.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and OMG the service here! I used to live here for 10 years and know the brewery scene pretty well. The place is low key, great energy and really courteous staff. They take the time to learn what you like so there suggestions are on point. This place is a HIDDEN GEM that is casual, comfortable and has a great outdoor seating area to relax in. They close at '9' but if there's a crowd they'll let everyone respectably sip there brew and chill. FANTASTIC!!!!!

Natalie B.

Yelp
Have time before a flight? Stop here! there is street parking. We really enjoyed going here with friends for some beer. Plenty of space and dog friendly! Each of us enjoyed our beers and even stayed longer than planned because we enjoyed it so much. For going to over 300 breweries this is definitely a fav!

Alma P.

Yelp
I wish I could give two reviews, the Beer is definitely a 5 star. We had a taster, and here is what we had: -Lager- thumbs up the perfect drink after a hike (which is where I came from) it is very VERY light but mega drinkable for the same reason -Meow IPA - for an IPA haters gonna hate like myself, it was surprisingly good. The hops are there but they do not overrule the taste of the beer. -PORTER (with Cacao nibs from Ecuador and Coffee from Brazil) HANDS DOWN a must try, I am currently in love with this porter. and there was PALE ALE, we tried as well but that one was OK, nothing too exciting. The AMBIANCE could really use some energy- so this was more on the 3.5/4 star, on one side it definitely lives up to being a neighborhood bar, but we also visited during a Sunday night so maybe I will give it a try during Saturday, it just felt very empty- lacked energy. overall it was a good surprise to see someone local is making very good beer and I hope more people come try their stuff.

Danyel C.

Yelp
In the old Acoustic Ale location by the airport so we stopped on our way home from a flight and had a flight. Solid beer. Hubby is an award-winning homebrewer and I'm picky. They only have 6 beers on tap right now but they are all good. My favorite was On Point Porter- dry robust porter at 6.8%. 1915 Lager is 2nd and slim shazy pale 3rd. 'It's the Champ' and 'Squeak Pale' and 'Dank Diggler' are really good too. We were there on Memorial Day Sunday so it was quiet but bartender was super friendly and knew her beer.

Erin M.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place!!! We landed in San Diego and picked up our rental car. As we were driving toward the hotel, we decided to start looking for a place to grab a drink and a snack. My husband saw the sign for this place so we decided to drop in. I'm so glad we did!! Their beer is AMAZING-- best beer we've had on this trip so far. They have super friendly staff, too. Matty was knowledgeable, friendly, and funny!! He also made some beer recommendations based on our likes/dislikes and he was ON POINT. They also have a couple snacks like chips and pretzels. If you order the chips and salsa, you get literally an entire bag of chips and a full container of locally made salsa. Can't beat it!!! Highly recommend.

Tawnya P.

Yelp
Great core beers and comfortable ambience. Only been open a week so currently 4 beers on tap but the wonderful beertender, Lisa, informed us more are in the making! Love the feel of this place and I know it's a perfect addition to the neighborhood.

Igor G.

Yelp
This is a fantastic natural setting brewery taster built somewhere around 1912 according to the busy barmaid. I love the courtyard which is the closest you can get to Europe in San Diego. The Pilsner and the Lager San Diego 1915 are the ones to go for. Ask for Lisa.

Jesse L.

Yelp
Great stuff! The Java the Hutt was amazing, on par or better than Modern Time's coffee stuff imo

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
This is a local gem! It's tucked away and inside has such an amazing ambiance. The beers are tasty and inexpensive and the service is quick and friendly. We love spending an afternoon here playing foosball, shuffleboard, or Jenga. It is dog friendly and has a few TVs to watch sports too. I'd definitely recommend this place for a gathering or party as well!

Kathy S.

Yelp
Really good beer and food. Nice atmosphere! We were there for my husbands work event. I don't really drink beer but I loved theirs! Great friendly bartenders!

Connie H.

Yelp
This was my favorite brewery of our three day trip. I liked the history and the beer. They have a variety of space and we enjoyed that. My only issue was parking was a little tough, but probably made worse as we were out of towners.

Laurel L.

Yelp
OMG! This beer is amazing and the location is beautiful. This is a must stop for any beer lover and the crowlers are excellent to bring to house parties

Christine M.

Yelp
Beer is alright. Staff not friendly. Atmosphere needs some work. There are much better beer places in San Diego that way out-do this one.

Sam R.

Yelp
The Stranger Russian Imperial Stout is awesome! Well worth the money! The flavor blends from chocolate to the faintest hints of vanilla!

Bill K.

Yelp
Great beer, great people, great bartender Jeff. Not familiar with the beers but love the IPAs and this brewery has some good ones.

Krystle J.

Yelp
I'm a stout fan but they had an excellent porter with coffee and vanilla that I loved. My husband loved Its a Chaamp IPA and the Pale Ale and the Hefeweizen! All of them! They were extremely nice explaining everything. They loved my dog and let him play a little. It made me feel right at home. The prices are great! $6 for a pint?! Yes please. You can even buy tokens and then it's 6 for $30 ($5 a pint!!). My husband and I have been to 124 breweries and this is top 10 for sure. I highly recommend you check it out!

KT M.

Yelp
They made a beer drinker out of me! 25 years of trying beers and disliking most... I'd given up... But these guys have found the perfect balance to please die hard craft brew beer drinkers and educate those who don't know better, like me! Brewed onsite, fun tasting establishment, great location right off trolley stop at Washington. Patio and food coming soon! Can't wait to impress our friends with the large to go can, pulled and sealed right there!

Katherine W.

Yelp
Cool vibe. Good beer. Love the porter!!!! It's a must for local craft brew lovers. I love that it is dog friendly too!

Micah M.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Great beer, beautiful interior, nice patio for a sunny day and terrific staff. Try the Belgian style, one of their many amazing IPAs or anything really and you will not be disappointed.

David L.

Yelp
This place is great for me after work. It's right off the freeway I5 North. A vendor is outside serving food and the drinks inside are plenty. Try the beer of the day! Lots to do here and plenty of room in the back for a party. Kids are welcome too.

Tim M.

Yelp
Solid little tasting room! 9 beers on tap, the ones that I tasted were all pretty solid.

R. M.

Yelp
Just checked out Latchkey Brewing, which took over the space formerly occupied by Acoustic Ales. I only had one beer: It's the Champ IPA. Really great, TBH. Staff is friendly. Nice bar. Spacious. I have always loved this location - it's close to Regal Beagle, Blue Water, Saffron Thai, Blonde, and others. Since Latchkey is new, I felt like I should give them a public thumbs up. You should check them out for yourself.

Cathy R.

Yelp
My husband and I as well as our adult children love this place. Friendly service, neighborhood feel and great beer! The back room has games including shuffleboard plus a comfy sofa area to watch TV. Right off the trolley line, too. Great price on flights. Also, they display local art and have a lot of fun events such as pumpkin carving and "paint your pet".

Ian C.

Yelp
Tried Niffler and the San Diago- excellent. Nice setting and beertender was accommodating with television channels. Clean, spacious, and long list of tasty beverages to select from.

Ray B.

Yelp
They do beer well here and the brewery has a great vibe on an old building. Bartender was great! I had "It's a Champ." It's a very sessionable IPA.

Scott N.

Yelp
Rookie Beertender mistakes: 1) In middle of helping me order some beer, she stops and walks to another section of the bar to help someone else. 2) When asked what the breweries signature beer (or most popular) is, she should know. Hope to return once the opening jitters have been ironed out.

Alexa F.

Yelp
What a wonderful spot to have a delicious beer and hangout with friends and my dog :) They have an amazing space inside or outside for everyone to enjoy. All of their beers are impeccable. Highly recommended brewery.

Helen W.

Yelp
Always ready for a beer and finding a craft brewery is always a plus. San Diego is the place to find a brewery. We were at MCRD and this place was just up the street so we gave it a try. I like sours so I ordered the It's My Jam and it did not disappoint. Roomy place with ample indoor seating and an outdoor patio as well. Food truck parked outside. Seemed like a local spot as it filled up after office hours. Will definitely stop by again when in the area.

Patty B.

Yelp
This place hits it out of the park!!! Awesome atmosphere, super knowledgeable staff... not to miss!

Amrit M.

Yelp
This place has a very relaxed, laid back setting. It just opened and is a hidden gem if visiting breweries in San Diego! My boyfriend and I loved it. I would recommend the Hazy Ale. It has a very distinct taste. I would definitely come here again!
