L'ATELIER de Joël Robuchon

"This is where it all began for the worldwide phenomenon that is L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. The open kitchen is bustling with chefs. The counter seating, an homage to both sushi shops and Spanish tapas bars, celebrates the diversity of culinary culture. The menu ranges from specialities of years gone by to new arrangements incorporating seasonal Japanese ingredients. This really is Joël Robuchon’s atelier of modern cuisine." - Michelin Inspector

Having dined at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Roppongi Hills during a previous visit to Tokyo, I returned this time with several friends – and once again, the experience was nothing short of outstanding. The exceptional quality of Japanese ingredients, combined with masterful French cooking techniques, results in dishes of remarkable depth and precision. Each course was perfectly balanced, showcasing both creativity and respect for the product. A special mention must go to Damien, whose warm hospitality, expertise, and attention to detail elevated the evening. His intuitive service and genuine enthusiasm make guests feel completely at ease while maintaining the elegance of a fine-dining setting. L’Atelier remains a must-visit for true gourmets who appreciate world-class cuisine served in a relaxed, contemporary atmosphere, and at very fair prices given the exceptional quality. I look forward to my next visit with great anticipation

Food is good, not as good as that of its HK. Px wise Yen 10k dinner course, can’t complain. Atmosphere same as good as that of Hk. Manager serving us was total fluency in English. So was a plus. The px tag is definitely can’t beat. Suggest to go for lunch if schedule meets. Lunch set px tag is even more friendly and value for money at yen6k+

The food was excellent and it was nice to have the little boutique inside L’Atelier to bring back some yummy spreads. However, we were unpleased with the service: we asked to split the bill and it took more than 15 minutes. And the waiter had the nerve to stand on one foot crossing his arms while staring at us when we were checking the separate bills, as if we were annoying him. Eventually, even though he took 15 minutes to separate the bills, he got it ALL WRONG and mixed everything 🥴 Also, we were not offered the mignardises at the end of the meal, but the clients next to us were offered those, just like us during a previous visit. A sour note at the end of the meal that makes the overall experience disappointing. I’m a fan of this franchise but I’ve never had a disappointing experience like this one at their other restaurants in Taipei, Las Vegas, Montreal and Singapore before it closed.

At the start of the meal, I requested for white grape juice but the server came back with a bottle of red grape juice. That's fine, no big deal. Bones in the fish. I informed the staff and received an apology. Chocolate dessert was an assembly of sweet on sweet and I had a hard time finishing it. The chocolate tasted rather ordinary. The plate for the bread was so small. I could see other customers having crumbs all over the place as well. No hand towels were provided. For a restaurant which serves starters, bread, desserts, etc which uses hands, it would be appropriate. I thought it was common for Michelin restaurants in Japan to provide them but not this time. There is a decoration in front of my table which is obstructive for the servers. They had to bend awkwardly to reach the right side of my table for water and utensils. It came to a point the staff decided to unprofessionally place all the utensils on my left. The bread basket was also removed before I was done with it as it contributed to the obstruction. I requested for tap water and tried to confirm a second time with the server. The server took my glass away and came back. I assumed it was tap water but was charged 1500 yen for a glass of water. The drinks are expensive. The 5 dishes meal cost 13800 yen. Water and juice are priced at 1500 yen. 10 glasses of non-alcoholic drinks would cost more than the Michelin meal. The overall bill came to be 18479 yen for the 5 dishes meal plus a glass of juice and a glass of water.

Amazing service, food quality and prices. I'll definitely come back to this place to try the other dishes. The guy who I assume is the manager is very hospitalable and quite a character.

I have been coming to this restaurant since 2003 when roppongi hills just stated to run the business. We love the food here very much so This year I paid a visit again to my favorite restaurant at all time while in my staying in Tokyo. Unfortunately, the service has been really disappointing, the manager who serving us was not friendly and not professional. He did not give us or explain to us what the special is on the menu, but he did it to the Japanese people. And what’s more , he over charge us by paying more bottle of water on the bills! I found this is very dishonest with this behavior and should never happen in a such fine dining. Over 20 years of loyal customer, I am truly disappointing the way it is now. From the professional service to stuffing management, everything is go down hills. A Big disappointment 👎

Google
What a wonderful experience I had at the restaurant. Great warm and welcoming decor, fantastic service and excellent interpretation of the standard Joel Robuchon menu with a touch of Japanese flare! The wagyu beef main course is what you want to get! It’s tender, filled with flavour and has that melt in your mouth effect. The banana dessert was to die for.. absolutely delicious and refreshing at the same time. Wine menu was extensive and should meet any discerning wine lover’s palate. A must visit for those collecting Michelin Stars as this is a 2-star restaurant that lives up to the hype! Special mention goes to Damien who made the whole experience extra special!

Google
I visited L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Tokyo for the second time in 15 years, and I just had to come back—it was my very first Michelin-starred restaurant, so there’s a bit of nostalgia there. I chose the 10,000 JPY menu, which is probably the best value option, as it includes two appetizers. I also upgraded with the Ibaraki Wagyu steak for an additional 4,000 JPY, and it was absolutely worth every yen. Don’t let the negative reviews mislead you—there’s a reason this place has held onto its Michelin star for around 20 years. Is it the best French restaurant in Tokyo? Maybe not. But is it still one of the most consistent and enjoyable Michelin experiences you can get in the city? Definitely. And let’s be honest—being able to have a Michelin-starred lunch starting at 5,000 JPY in Tokyo is still pretty incredible.

Yelp
We came here to take advantage of the exchange rate. Dinner at a nice Michelin star place for a very reasonable price. And only a 10% tip for amazing service? Sign me up. The best thing about this place was the staff imo. Great service and definitely made the meal more special. Not snooty at all. Food was great too. I don't think that it was at the same level as many of the other Michelin star places that I've visited, but still excellent considering the price. You actually need to sign up for the specific meal type when making the reservation. We ended up getting the 4 courses. Each course has a number of options (which you select while dining), several of which are 2000-4000+ surcharge. Meal took about 2hrs so don't go if you are in a rush. It was very confusing to get here from the metro station, so I'd recommend adding some extra time to find the place.

Yelp
I came here to celebrate my birthday after spending tons of energy looking for a Michelin restaurant that accepts small kids in Tokyo. This restaurant offer three lunch combo choices: combo A/B/C at 13,800/10,000/6,500 yen. The only difference is the number of appetizers and mains included. There's no difference in the selection list. So we decided to get three lunch combo C which includes a free appetizer, a selected appetizer, a main dish, dessert and coffee/tea. The service here was attentive and there were quite a couple of dishes wowing me. In addition, the restaurant has cool "self-serving" toilet which opens up the cover automatically when it senses someone walking in. Now the food. I really liked the sample appetizer they gave us which was pork on toast. It was so yummy! We ordered red sea bream carpaccio with citron vinaigrette which was very fresh, creamy cauliflower soup with ham and croutons which was also very tasty and the salad with blue cheese which was quite refreshing. Overall, I liked all of the appetizers! For main dishes, we ordered fish, lamb and Wagyu (+3,000 yen). We didn't like the fish. It was not fresh and the flavouring was too heavy. The other two dishes were just wowing me. I requested medium for Wagyu and it was cooked perfectly. So tender and juicy! Nothing to complain about. Unexpectedly, the lamb was amazing me more! The lamb meat was seasoned so well, soft and tender. In addition, I liked how the chef cooked the side vegetables as well. This was definitely the star dish of this meal in my opinion! For dessert, we ordered chocolate with ice cream, the savarin soaked in rum syrup and strawberries with whipped cream. There's nothing special for the desserts. I especially didn't like the savarin. I don't think it's a good idea to soak the soft savarin in bitter alcohol. Among the desserts we ordered, I liked the chocolate with icecream the best. You can never go wrong with chocolate! They also served us coffee, tea and more free desserts after that. Overall, I really enjoyed our meal here and would consider revisiting if I were in Tokyo again.

Yelp
This meal was such an indulgent treat for us as we celebrated our anniversary and visiting Tokyo for our first time. This was one of our most pricey meals and worth every penny! I reserved seats online prior to arriving in Japan as I didn't know if they accepted walk-ins. I suspected no. I opted for a lunch prix fixe menu A with 5 dishes and the ability to choose our options upon arrival. We made sure to order different items so that we could taste as many flavors as possible. This was a great idea. French food typically has my favorite flavors- salt, butter, cream, etc. what's not to like?! Haha. I loved this fine dining experience with the open concept kitchen and counter seating so we could watch the magic happen and see the attention to detail and care while the team was preparing the food. Each course that arrived was better and better. I won't go into each dish, but I will say that this meal felt very fancy but also relaxing and approachable. I highly recommend coming here for lunch. All the stars! See pictures for some of the items we had :)

Yelp
Enjoyed Prix Fixe menu B: each guest selects two appetizers, one entree and one dessert. Appetizers. The crispy egg over bed of Parmesan cream with Iberico ham is THE BEST! Salmon tartar served over dry ice is Instagram worthy. The mussels were good but the French fries stole the show. Chestnut cream soup, a bit too sweet. Entree. Sautéed stingray is one of their signature dishes. I loved the spaghetti with poached egg and sea urchin...there is an upgrade charge for this dish but they put a good amount of uni in this dish. Dessert. Pear clafoutis is a good bread pudding like consistency, not too sweet. The muroise (berry) soufflé had cloud-like airy texture but I am not sure if I like berry flavor for soufflés. Bread basket was beautiful (5 types of bread served in two intervals). Amuse bouche, coffee/tea and petit four were nice touches to a fancy but relaxing meal. We had Damien as our server and he was kind, professional and made our meal more enjoyable. Definitely great to check back frequently as their menu items changes seasonally but signature items like stingray will be always available.

Yelp
I recently went to Joel Robuchon's slightly more affordable "L'Atelier" with a friend. The restaurant is nice, albeit all high-top seating and I would add the interior does seem a bit dated. The Service was a little on the pretentious side, although overall very good, and I truly appreciated our server's wine suggestions. In addition to the amuse bouche they also provide an after-dinner dessert tray to sample some of their sweets and small pastries. I would say that overall this is a great way to try Joel Robuchon's culinary delights without having to break the bank (four course meal without wine pairing is about 15000 yen), but nothing wowed me. Everything was good, predictably so, and maybe I would go back again, but not someplace that is so great that I would definitely go back time and again.

Yelp
The service, as expected in Japan, was excellent! The food and ambiance was worth the effort to get a reservation at this popular restaurant.

Yelp
I have to tell you that my favorite thing about eating here was watching the pastry chef work through the service. She was the bomb. We were able to get reservations through the hotel concierge on a Saturday night about 4 hours before dining. You can't necessarily make an online reservation so make sure to ask. We were seated at the bar (it's a long bar) which was perfect for this open kitchen extravaganza and pastry chef watching. (Every dessert was made to order, it never got old.) Cocktail menu was weak so we didn't drink. The menu was Prix Fixe with lots of options ... i.e. I got a soup, entree and dessert. My son got appetizer, soup, 2 entrees and dessert. I like that those were options. I had: Gazpacho - OK Cod - outstanding - the sauces were divine Mango souffle - very good He had: Crab app Fois Gras Ravioli Soup - rich Wagyu Beef - delicious and perfect Duck - very good Chocolate thing - very good There was also a post dessert treat which was also fantastic. Passion fruit truffle ...OMG! Overall, good meal. SOLID meal. I was not blown away. Portion sizes www small. Which was fine but for the money they were super small.

Yelp
Came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary while visiting Japan. Had the Prix Fixe menu which included an appetizer, soup, a main course, and dessert! The chestnut soup was definitely my favorite -- such a unique taste!

Yelp
Aah. Such a wonderful restaurant! I came here with a colleague one night for dinner while staying at a nearby hotel and was SO excited to be able to make same-day reservations during breakfast for dinner later that night. There is a small café connected to the restaurant proper, but if you're looking for dinner, either enter from the outside near the West Walk or go through the café. We were quickly seated and greeted by our host, Julien, who was super fun and friendly. Both of us chose the lighter prix fixe menu, and we were thrilled with the dishes. -The amuse bouche was a globe of quinoa with spices. It was simple in presentation but full of flavor. -Le Canard (duck confit atop potatoes with wine and black trumpet mushrooms): I am so upset...that everyone doesn't cook duck confit exactly the way they did! It was tender, not tough, and whatever they did to the potato parmentier made it blend perfectly. It was a unique preparation, almost like having cheese melted under a crispy, beautifully textured light breading. I am NOT a mushroom fan but am always willing to go out of my comfort zone at Michelin establishments, and I wasn't disappointed. This dish sent shock waves of warmth through my body. -La Mangue (they described it as a "pineapple and mango symphony"...how am I not going to order the symphony??): A relatively uncomplicated set of sorbets atop a little biscuit. I loved the passion fruit puree and, well, just loved the whole thing. It looked unassuming but was a volcano of flavor. We sat at the bar, which not only has a great vantage point of the rest of the dining room, but also confers you access to all the action in their fast-paced kitchen. I always enjoy sitting at the bar to get a pulse of how the staff work their magic. Toward the end of the meal, we kept seeing Julien walk around with this huge display of desserts...it was like a pig made of chocolate with a veritable candy land of things on top of it. Not kidding. We kept eyeing it, thinking, "Who is getting all this dessert? Where are they going?" At last, he stopped by our seats and let us each choose two of the mini-desserts. YES! Choosing which to take was the hard part, and my colleague pointed to the only item on the plate that wasn't edible (it all looked wonderful). One of mine was a tiny fruit designed to look like a shiny red apple, and it was such an explosion of flavor! This Robuchon restaurant comes at a steal of a price, ESPECIALLY given the relative pricing of things in the surrounding Roppongi Hills neighborhood. This is bad, though, because now every time I stay in Roppongi, I'm going to want to go here instead of trying somewhere new. ;-) Encore, Joël. Encore.

Yelp
We had our last dinner in Tokyo at this wonderful Robuchon restaurant. The ambiance and food was delicious, but I felt like it was missing a special touch. Service was slightly below par given that this is a Michelin 2 star restaurant - however, we did have a manager that came by occasionally to chat with us, so we definitely appreciated that. We sat at the counter right in front of the dessert station. It was definitely quite the sight to see! Decadent desserts one after another made by the pastry chef. For dinner, we opted for the a la carte menu and ordered the Artichokes (must order), Seaweed Butter Scallops, Cod with Daikon Puree and Kyoto duck breast and ended dinner off with a Chocolate Soufflé. Favourites were definitely the Artichokes that came in a curried and pureed artichoke sauce with turmeric emulsion! YUM!!! :) The Kyoto duck was also delicious and was a decent sized portion! Also the Soufflé was to die for, semi-sweet and perfect with the raspberry gelato. Overall a great experience and a special occasion spent on our last night in Tokyo.

Yelp
If you are looking for casual French restaurant without Joel Robuchon price, this is a great place to dine. A few mins walk from the Roopingi subway station exit 3, located at the beautiful Roppingi Hills. I arranged this dinner to meet my brother's fiancé for the first time and wanted casual ambiance with great food and wine and I was glad I chose this restaurant (thanks yelpers in Tokyo for helping me find this place). I reserved a course dinner, you get to pick one appetizer, a soup, a main and a desert. Price doesn't include drinks so we ordered a bottle of wine to share. Price on wine was fair and they have nice selection of French wine. I ordered wine from 2006 and they transferred then to a decanter to air out. Longer I waited, aroma of wine increased, I really enjoyed it. We ended up ordering two bottles by the end of dinner. Service was good, I wouldn't call it excellent. I asked for olive oil for my bread but had to ask twice before they brought one. Many staff spoke English and some French. Menu is available in French, English, and Japanese. Food was great but didn't have "wow" factor. I enjoyed all of them and would recommend this restaurant but I wasn't overly impressed. I had better food from other Robuchon restaurant. Again this place is for casual dining, so food level is that I think. Last night we had a surprise visit from Mr. Robuchon himself. Got really lucky, he walked around and took pictures with guests. Of course I took a picture with him. He was very friendly. Food price was around $100 per person and I thought price is set right for the food served. They were busy when we were there last night. I highly recommend convenient online reservation. We all enjoyed our dinner last night and I got to know my new sister-in-law to be. I think she was relaxed enough to enjoy her food after the first glass of wine. Ambiance was perfect for our occasion.

Yelp
Pâtisserie Review Only! I miss Paris. Thankfully there's a good amount of French imported and French-style bakeries and businesses in Japan. Another reason why I like Japan, among the many. There's just something about the way these pastries glisten under the lights and the aroma of welcoming sweet and savory bread alike-- just thinking about it makes me slightly drool. I had to have the tempting Focaccia with Pecorino and Basil. Wonderful soft bread with a sharpness and some oil, but damn. If this bakery opened up near my home, I'd probably be there every day and still not be bored of it. I tried a couple of sweet breads my friends got and they were all very good, with some better than others. I liked the Strawberry Danish with custard inside and the Sea Salt Caramel Budino they got was absolutely divine! I also got the Mille-Feuille to end all mille-feuille's-- crispy when appropriate and light cream in It between it all. It broke apart easily, but it was so good. Now I can't wait to go back to Paris. L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon was just a reminder of how delicious Parisian bakeries and boulangeries are.

Yelp
Last dinner before our departure and we decided to give a try at Robuchon's two Michelin starred restaurant in Roppongi. This is their second location and the only one outside of Paris. Relative to its flagship restaurant, L'Atelier is slightly at the casual end and provided more dinner choices aside from the regular tasting set. As we were in a rush for the show, we opted for set D, the shortest prex fixe with one main course and one dessert. We ordered the foie gras (signature dish! Make sure someone on your table goes for this course!), the lamb chop (medium rare) and the uni spaghetti. I loved my friend's foie gras - it was cooked so tender and well marinated, carrying a special subtle grilled scent, not greasy at all. Dessert was quite good too, the mango sorbet was refreshing and served as a perfect ending for dinner. Highlight was towards the end of dinner, when our waitress brought us the sweet collection "planted" on a mountain. Each person got to choose from two of the six or seven choices. Such a pretty decoration! Very good quality dinner with a decent price tag, strongly recommend it! In fact, if I were able to return, I would not mind at all trying the full tasting course!

Yelp
Exquisite desserts! When in Ropponggi Hills, you gotta drop it like its hot. Wave your black Visa card all you want but when in Asia, cash is king. And you should spend your cash here like it will be the last day of your life. The choux a la creme is prepared with a thick rich creme which is a beautiful contrast to the light pastry crust. The perfect striated bronzed cylinder of the canele had a wonderful custard flavor. Or get the classic Madeleine with its buttery flavor. I could go on and on about the other things we consumed (yes, we ate like pigs) but I'll just make myself depressed because now, I can only draw from memory because this bakery is in Tokyo and not in the U.S. of A! :( Depressed is also a good emotion to come in here. You'll spend much, much more.

Yelp
We've dined at L'Atelier locations around the world (London, Shanghai, HK, LV, etc.) -- the Roppongi location stacks up well against its peers. The quality of the service was, as always, excellent. We sat at the counter and decided to work off of the a la carte menu, which is our usual habit. We ordered the iberico with tomato toast, la langoustine, ravioli with foie gras sauce, and scallop on the half shell for appetizers; our entrees were the Kyoto duck and the wagyu steak. To finish: the souffle (this month's version is the chartreuse with pistachio cream). Everything was uniformly delicious and perfectly prepared. Minor nits: there was no acknowledgment of a special occasion (we were there celebrating a birthday), despite the confirmation of that occasion with the reservationist; the details of the service were a bit uneven (i.e., some guests were offered mignardises, others were not); the counter seating is a bit cramped, as compared to other locations. That all being said, despite the recent death of Chef Robuchon, dinner at L'Atelier (at least at this location) has not lost its shine. From speaking with the staff it seems that there is some uncertainty, however, as to the future of the brand -- Chef had such an outsize presence at each and every restaurant under his purview. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. For now, this is still a top place to dine in Tokyo.

Yelp
I cannot deny that the food was exceptional, but the service was below par, especially for a Robuchon restaurant. I was dining alone and happy to sit at the long bar and watch the kitchen work. Though they offer a vegetarian tasting menu, I opted to order a la carte so I could have all my favourite items. After ordering I was presented with a basket of bread that looked as though someone else had already eaten from it. Another waiter came by and swept it away and brought a fresh one, but it lacked the small baguettes I saw other diners had. Perhaps they ran out? I opted for 2 starters + cheese + dessert. The tomato soup was so flavorful, and the artichoke in a puree was also divine. Prior to the cheese, I requested a glass of wine. This was obviously forgotten and after 10 minutes I requested it again. They then presented a beautiful selection of cheese to me on a large tray. After making my selections, it took over 20 minutes before they brought the plate to me. And of course, it was accompanied by raison walnut bread - a pet peeve of mine. I don't know why restaurants insist on serving such gorgeous cheese with anything but a simple baguette or a water cracker, as it just overwhelms the taste of the cheese. My final course was a chocolate soufflé with raspberry sorbet. There's no question it was delicious, though something at the bottom seemed over-cooked so I left the last couple spoons. I was disappointed that I wasn't offered a final selection of sweets like all other diners - perhaps because I didn't order tea? At that point, it was taking so long for everything I just wanted to leave, but it still made me a little sad. Having eaten at several other Robuchon restaurants, this is definitely not the Michelin-star service you expect. While the food was overall tasty, I couldn't help but leave a little disappointed.

Yelp
Joel Rubuchon Roppongi is one of my top restaurants in the Tokyo area for three reasons: the food is delicious, beautifully presented and affordable. There are different tiers of this high end chain and Roppongi actually has very affordable courses. We ordered the middle of the road selection: appetizer, soup, entree and dessert for around 6000¥. You could order other sizes, like just entree and dessert or even an option with two entrees. Wine is affordable: we had a Sauvignon Blanc for 10000¥. The sommelier ensured the bottle remained the proper temperature and kept our glasses topped off. As you browse the pictures you will see food that looks almost too good to eat! That is the norm. We've ordered 4 different set menus on our visits to dine and I've not been given a single dish that wasn't a piece of culinary art. The plates are colorfully decorated with ornate garnishes. I've even had a salmon tartare served over a bowl of smoking dry ice. Portion sizes are perfect so I even have room for dessert... Make a reservation. Small parties sit at the bar and can watch all the kitchen action. There are a few tables for larger parties. Enjoy!

Yelp
***Tokyo's L'atelier de Joel Robuchon is similar to Las Vegas' L'atelier de Joel Robuchon; both feature a strikingly modern black and red decor and the menu highlights modern French cuisine; the major difference with the Tokyo location is the integration of Japanese ingredients, which gives this famous chef restaurant (which has multiple locations) a unique and slightly local feel*** Tokyo's L'atelier de Joel Robuchon is conveniently located in a westernized shopping, dining and entertainment plaza next to the Roppongi station. This L'atelier de Joel Robuchon is very similar to the Las Vegas restaurant of the same name in the MGM Grand. Like that Vegas spot, this L'atelier de Joel Robuchon features modern French cuisine in a very contemporary and sleek red and black dining room with a long counter where you can see the chefs plate the food. This L'atelier de Joel Robuchon is much bigger though and it also features a high-end patisserie where you can get all kinds of upscale French pastries and individual desserts to-go like a puff pastry filled with custard and topped with candied kumquats. Like that Las Vegas restaurant, this L'atelier de Joel Robuchon also has a seasonal tasting menu. With this menu, there are a lot of similarities to the Las Vegas location with the wide variety of modern French courses and classic Joel Robuchon courses like jamon iberico and quail stuffed with foie gras. This tasting menu has unique touches too like the integration of Japanese ingredients including Wagyu beef and local white fish. The tasting menu started with the Jamon iberico, which was good--thin but a nice texture as well as a rich and salty but not too salty flavor. There were great warm starters including a very good, soft and moist lobster course garnished with egg yolk and romesco as well as a seared foie gras course. The foie gras had a flavorful and crispy sear to contrast a very creamy and buttery center. The foie gras was paired well with turnips and sweet and juicy cherries. The fish course was a local Japanese white fish, which was very moist. It was topped with a light and foamy butter sauce as well as sauteed mushrooms (great texture to the mushrooms; they were like chanterelles) and asparagus. The main course was Wagyu beef, which had a little bit of a chew like a New York Strip. The beef definitely created a Kobe beef-like experience with a rich and marbled interior. The beef was served with sweet corn puree and a shaving of truffles. This L'atelier de Joel Robuchon also served Robuchon's popular and freshly baked breads including an addictively crispy and crusty baguette and the popular-in-Japan milk bread rolls. Desserts included a refreshing sorbet shooter with basil, lemon and lime. The main dessert was a soup-based dessert of sweet strawberries and other berries with vanilla ice cream encased in a light, wafer thin and crispy sugar cylinder. Service was very good--more personable than Las Vegas' L'atelier de Joel Robuchon and the chefs do a much better job of engaging diners and explaining the ingredients as well as the origin and inspiration of the courses. The restaurant manager was also very welcoming and friendly. Despite the many courses, the pacing of the courses was remarkably consistent. Prices are very high. Japan tends to be expensive and while this fine dining spot is competitive in terms of food quality with the great fine dining restaurants in New York, Chicago and San Francisco, it is also more expensive than those places (with a lot of that due to just being in Japan). This L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon does offer specials like a weekday lunch 3-course menu where you can enjoy this restaurant's food at a more reasonable price. L'atelier de Joel Robuchon is a very good option for high-end western cuisine in Tokyo. I really enjoyed how the food was very representative of Joel Robuchon's cuisine while also showing a lot of Japanese character. Unlike Bouchon or other celebrity chef restaurants with multiple locations, I felt Tokyo's L'atelier de Joel Robuchon seemed more reflective of its surrounding area. The dining room, the service, the quality of the food, and the presentations were all great even if the prices were very high. If you are looking for a more authentic Japanese experience, you will probably want to look elsewhere because L'atelier de Joel Robuchon's French identity definitely resonates more strongly than their Japanese ingredients and flavors. However, if you are seeking high-end French cuisine in Tokyo, I think you will be very satisfied with a lunch or dinner at L'atelier de Joel Robuchon. I am not sure what the parking situation is.

Yelp
Overpriced and definitely not worth it for a three-star Michelin restaurant. I've been in hundreds of places in Japan and it's mediocre at best for the local standards. The service was quite good indeed, but the food was quite disappointing - can't say it was bad, it's just that the experience was sort of "eat and forget" - definitely not what you would expect from that kind of place

Yelp
I love love his restaurants! Been to the one in London and Paris and the consistency is also there for his quality and creativity! A great place to celebrate special occasions. I probably won't pay extra to upgrade to wagyu...wasn't very tender as they normally are so could be just mine was over cooked!

Yelp
L'atelier de Joel Robuchon @ Roppongi Hills 2** Michelin. I have been to L'Atelier in HK (3***) as well as Joel Robuchon Restaurant in Ebisu, Tokyo (3***) the bread was served but i had to ask for butter/olive oil. service was ok but pretty bad compared to the one in HK or even JG in Tokyo. lunch is around 3000-4000 yen depends on # of courses and the tasting menu for lunch is around 7000 yen (6-7 courses). I think the portion is much larger than JG but the choice of dishes are not that impressive I decided to go with 4-course lunch for 4200 yen (but I ordered special entree so extra charge) Portion is much larger than Jean Georges (which I had the day before). I really love the desserts (not too sweet which is very rare in the US). No petit 4 but coffee and tea instead. I mean you get a lot for what you pay (portion-wise) but ingredients-wise ... not really

Yelp
Wow! L'Atelier is a Tokyo must! The food is exquisite and the service is impeccable. Some of the best beef I've ever had. Don't miss it!

Yelp
The reasoning behind my rating of this place is because of the duration of time we spent waiting for our food to come out. Our group was really excited to try out this place because of the Michelin star status this place had received. We made our reservation ahead of time, arrived when we needed to, and get seated at some high chairs near the kitchen. We ordered the Menu set C and we get our appetizer before the appetizer. Then we wait about 20 minutes.....we get our soup. We all thought, "That took a while." Another 20 minutes pass....we don't get our main course. Now we're all thinking, "What's going on?" We are getting sleepy and frustrated at this point and the frustration we face is reflected in the waiter's face, as he is waiting for the cooks to finish cooking. From what we could see, the head chef wasn't liking what the other chefs were making and asked them to start their dishes over from scratch. This caused 3 tables, including our group, to have their orders pushed back for almost 20 minutes (by now our group has been at the restaurant for an hour and we haven't gotten to our main course yet). Finally, we get our main courses and are relieved we no longer have to wait. I don't know what the other chefs did to make the head chef dissatisfied of their work, but I really hated waiting. On the bright side, our waiter was extremely friendly and gave us great service from the beginning to the end (he was apologetic to us for our wait). And once we got our food, it all tasted amazing, even if it was in very small portions. The dessert for me was especially good. Overall, the food is great but great food takes time. I'm not great at waiting in a restaurant myself, but you will need to be patient if you come here.

Yelp
Impeccable service and food perfection. But you should expect that when you pay 11000 for lunch. To be fair i had badoit sparkling water and a glass of champagne. Chose menu C and paid an extra 1000yen for appetizer instead of soup and another 1260 to choose the wagyu beef-which was absolutely worth it!! Many people seem to celebrate birthdays at this restaurant, i think the staff sung perhaps 8 times over the course of lunch.

Yelp
Super comfy place not that formal but a good choice to have a relaxing dinner time. Probably the softest beef I've ever had. It just melted in my mouth and it feels so good to have something like the beef here after the whole super busy week and tired Saturday morning. However, I'll give a "hmm" to the lamb meat. As the most important part of lamb meat, the smell of it has both its pros and cons. With the unique smell it has, you'll have a totally different experience from the normal meat such as beef and pork. Maybe more cumin powder would be better for this dish or it's too smelly to enjoy the real taste of it. By the appetizer, I think it was my best part but not my boyfriend's. Mine has the great combination of fruits and spices as a sour sauce to appetizing, which means a lot for me. A good appetizer is always a good start right? At last I'll give both 3 stars for those desserts. Chocolate is always not my cup of tea but my bf's so I hardly can judge. Based on the fact that he didn't even finish half of his chocolate sundae I consider it's really not a good choice to have this chocolate dessert after all those perfect dishes. About my dessert, all I can say is, I have no idea why it's so creamy that it almost ruined my fantastic experience about the softy softy mouth-melting beef :( I think I'll try the mango-mango on the menu next time instead of that L'ANANAS ( yes that's the name of my dessert but let me tell you guys in advance, it's definitely pineapple taste and no bananas in it although the name is very similar to "bananas" lol ).

Yelp
I made a reservation at the Roppongi Hills restaurant for my husband's birthday. We walked in, they took our coats, we sat down, and within 2 minutes we had to leave. They now apparently spray perfume/scent through all the vents, and the whole place smells quite strongly of fake-vanilla plastic. Nasty. We won't be back. Also it's awkward how all the staff stand and stare at you when you're walking in... Is that supposed to seem attentive or what?..

Yelp
Comparing this experience to Robuchon in Vegas, which met expectations. This Tokyo location has a very corporatized feel. Every dish was bland and brought out hurriedly, no time in between tasting plates. No garçon, and the GM is unfit for this position. He is self important and hovered over our plates during the entire sitting speaking about his job qualifications and personal life. It interrupted our dinner and took away from an already lackluster experience. We won't be returning.

Yelp
after a great meal at Sukiyabashi Jiro we came here to meet a friend who was having lunch and decided to indulge in some desserts. a couple of our group have an office in the Mori tower so they got to easily jaunt over. now ive been to the locale in St. Germain Paris so i knew what the food was like. one friend however did the 6 course lunch and said they had an amazing cote de boeuf. i went for the cake set and some coffee. the armangac and pistachio cakes were light, not too sweet and super delicious. excellent coffee to boot. obviously the service is top notch; id expect no less from a Joel Robuchon restaurant. crazy to see the same concept from Paris to Tokyo but it's clear theyve been able to maintain the quality even half way across the world!

Yelp
I was extremely excited to eat here because the best meal I've ever had was at the original location in Paris. I made a lunch reservation a few weeks in advance but I honestly don't think one is necessary during the week. I did the 6-course tasting menu but I won't break this meal down course by course. Overall it was just meh. It was really good but not a single dish came close to anything I had at the Saint Germain location except maybe the dessert and even that would have been disappointing in Paris. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was definitely disappointed. That being said, being able to walk into a two Michelin-starred restaurant at prime lunch time and have a 6-course tasting menu for roughly 6,500 yen(slightly more than $50) right now is INSANE. Definitely worth a visit. If it were more expensive, I would've probably given it 3 stars but you really can't beat this for the price.

Yelp
Went here for a dinner date. Great value for about 10,000yen pp but I didn't like seeing the chefs licking their fingers and eating off plates they were serving from. We sat at the bar counter and could see everything that was going on. Yeah the food is great quality for the most part, it does have that Michelin star on there, but the wagu wasn't the best I'd had and didnt have that melt in your mouth sensation. Probably coz the chefs were pressing down on the steak while it cooked on the hot plate, squeezing out all the juices. Shame. What lacked in food quality it certainly made up in atmosphere. I could tell there were some celebrities there too, not that I know who they were but could sense from the way restaurant staff were hovering around them.

Yelp
You need to splurge abit at Roppongi. We decided to try the famous Robuchon brand. We had second thoughts when we read the menu at the door, looking at the prices and what the menu has to offer we know its over priced and frankly and menu looked boring. But we are already here and I made the worst decision on this Tokyo trip. It is probably one of the worst meals in my life. Please note: My review of one star of this two star place is not based on the price. Here are some highlights: - the duck breast has no crispy skin and inside was not pink, but red and brown. - Pasta with uni, although not exactly French its pretty popular in Western restaurants in Japan. I mean you cant go wrong with that. They manage to mess it up as well, was way too salty and over cooked. - The steak was way over seasoned to be enjoyable - the souffle has no pop and taste more like brownie from a fine food store. If I got a chocolate brownie from my local super market for 3$ and taste like that I would be happy. But not from a Robuchon establishment for over 30$. If you read my review this far, please go try it for yourself, if your willing to drop 200$ per head. Other wise there are so many other great restaurant in the area.

Yelp
This is a great patisserie with extremely delicious offerings, both savory and sweet. We've also been to the one at Ebisu - which is just as good. We ordered coffee this time around at the Roppongi branch and were really disappointed with the coffee - it tasted bitter and of burnt coffee beans (like American coffee) and was awful... I took the coffee back and asked them if they could top it up with milk for me and they charged me 350 yen for a 1.5 inch top-up of milk... pretty bad form .... :-(

Yelp
We walked by the restaurant and were able to secure a reservation for lunch the next day. We had a nice bar area seating we could see the hot kitchen in action. The server we had was fantastic! He turned out to be Belgian French and spoke fluent Japanese too, very impressive. Our lunch menu was interesting - they were a true high end restaurant that accommodated to all the dietary needs. Loved my beef main course it was cooked perfectly alongside the famous potato puree. I was really happy I was able to substitute my dessert course with the signature chocolate dessert it was soooo good! Loved it. The lunch crowd was certain eclectic from housewives with children to business people, the children though were very well behaved in a fine dining restaurant probably wont get that in the USA. After lunch we walked over to the bakery, the bakery had some amazing stuff. We bought a few breakfast items for the train ride to Kyoto.

Yelp
Considering the Price and the Michelin star, we had high expectations, but was slightly disappointed. We went for dinner and the food was alright. Executed well, beautifully presented - but the flavor combinations did not blow me away. Ambiance and decor is a plus.

Yelp
We didn't have a reservation so the hostess made a big deal of fitting us in to a table by the back door and also gave us a time restriction. Not a pleasant first impression. Next although not busy they forgot our amuse bouche. I of course pointed that out and their response was to bring it while we were eating our first course. Additionally my water glass was continually empty and after we would finish eating a course our empty plates were not removed in a timely manner. In spite of all these misses at L'Atelier we did enjoy our meal. The food was all beautifully presented and of course delicious. Lastly, those "reserved" tables remained open the entire time we were there.

Yelp
Great lunch! The atmosphere was a little more relaxed in comparison to the Las Vegas location, however it is still very fancy and the staff still treat everyone like a guest of honor. We sat at the counter which was very cool as it allowed you to get a peak of the kitchen at work. The food really looked like works of art and tasted absolutely delicious. Price is also reasonable considering their accreditation. We arrived at 12:15 on a weekday and the counter area was already filling up so I would recommend making a reservation if possible. For me, these kinds of places can be a bit intimidating, however the front staff, managers, sommelier, and waiters were so nice and professional that I could not have been more comfortable. I would definitely come back if I had the chance!

Yelp
2 of us walked there from apt@Nishi-Azabu for NewYear'sDay lunch. Place was bustling- since we had reservations, were quickly seated at the bar where w could see the action. Had the tasting menu and suffice to say, everything was delicious - A perfect place to have our 1st ever meal for 2014 -2 Michelin stars' style!

Yelp
When it used to be half the price it is now for lunch it was an amazing deal. Now it's still good but overpriced. As much as I love my foie gras, it's disappointing here compared to other choices. They used to have an awful French boss, monsieur enculer, I believe, but the one in 2016 seems much nicer.
