This was like finding gold. There are no Dominican restaurants for miles. The 3 Hits (Los 3 Golpes) was good. I was not even hubgry but once i saw this restaurant and the menu, i just had to eat.

Stumbled across this place while wondering around the city. The menu looks good but I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the Mundungo. It was delicious. But by no means a small meal. There was so much meat I couldn't finish it.

Rude and inconsiderate, service was okay. Got the Dominican breakfast, the m a n g u wasn't even that good We were looking forward to it We didn't complain we still ate it. When we let them know there was a price discrepancy online and a door. They told us that was from 20 years ago and got really rude and nasty. We weren't rude with them we still paid the bill We were just trying to tell them but they had no consideration at all. We would have liked to go back and support but you can't support people that are even being considerate. Just try for better customer service in the future.

My first time being there and they are very welcoming,the place is spacious and ready to serve you…The food is delicious.

I love this place. This is my go to for comfort food. Your plate will look like this after you're done feasting on this delicious food. Try the passion fruit juice! Also, vegetarian options like stewed eggplant is amazing. You can't go wrong with what you get here. Enjoy!

I really enjoy eating here , nothing fancy but the food has a good Latin flavor love the arros con gandules. And chicken stew is my favorite. the trip soup is delicious 😋.

It started pouring rain out of nowhere. I had no umbrella and my hands started to feel cold. Suddenly, i was reminded of Eddie Santiago upon looking at the awning, clearly aged and weather worn. The sando had a well portioned cut to the bite. Whether it was marinated or stewed, it carried a distinct signature of "local" ethnic food. There was a moment where i took a bite that was enamored with mayo half way into the first Sando. And to that effect, it felt like copping a hero sando at the store across the street as an elementary school kid in Bushwick. Que Sabroso!

This is the first time I've ever tried mofongo so I don't have the proper comparisons I could make to how good or how bad it could be...but I really enjoyed it a lot. I chose the chicken mofongo and when I saw the plate, I thought this isn't enough food but it was hearty and filling. The chicken on top was mostly bone but thankfully there is meat inside of the dish as well. The broth in the cup tastes a bit similar to consome at a tacqueria but it was tasty and not too salty. They have green hot sauce by the table which elevates the dish as well. The texture was nice, soft but you do need the broth to get the flavor. The salad was boring but it is what it is. I really enjoyed the meal and I would like to try it with pork next time. I left really full and very satisfied to have tried something new that I really enjoyed.

The perfect latin american deli that I was craving while in flatiron. There are plenty of trendy, pricey places to have lunch, but for a homey feel and delicious food, this is the place to go. Inside it's nice and warm (from the grill/oven), and this is compounded by the cozy interior and bustling staff. I ordered at the counter and was quickly met with my food at a nearby table. The tables extend far in the back, so its a great place to excape the noise of the city or to sit and eat with family. I got the cuban sandwich, fries, and a coffee which were all perfect. The portions were large, and great for a reasonable price. The fries were perfect: crispy, FLAKEY, hot, and fluffy inside. The sandwich is also really solid, and this would be my go to lunch spot if i was closer. The coffee was dark roast and delicious. Really enjoyed my meal there and hope to be back soon

The tripe soup with rice is delicious. If I wasn't in a rush, I would've ordered the shrimp soup with rice

My go to restaurant for Latin food. Delivery is cheap so I often call them. Food is reasonably priced and all good. I've recommended this spot to others in the past will continue to do so. Its part of my regular lineup of restaurants that I like to get food from. Pretty sure the delivery guy knows who I am by now. Only issue that I have is that they do not take card over the phone or are on a delivery app. I'd probably order from them more if they were. Usually if I have cash on me I'll reach out. All in all, great place to get Latin food in Chelsea.

Food: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Service: 3.5/5 Overall: I've been coming to this place for years and everytime I come back to NY I make it a point to come to this place. Food: Carne Guisada - 4/5 - Rice, plantains, beef, potatoes, and carrots...uh yes please! This is my second go to when they don't have carne ripiada. It's a hearty meal at a very good price. Ambiance: It is a hole in the wall but the food is worth it for me. Service: So it can be hit or miss. Some can be friendly...some can be rude. But usually they are pretty nice to me when i attempt to speak in spanish.

A solid 3 stars. Given that there aren't many places to get authentic Spanish food, Latin American Restaurant is okay. I've had my coworkers rave about this place, so I was excited to try it out as sometimes I'm craving good Spanish food. The day I went I ordered a Cuban sandwich, with a side of madueros. Good, but not great. Not your typical Cuban sandwich. I found the Cuban sandwich very dry, i was dipping it with the mojito they left on the table. Since when does a Cuban sandwich need more flavor? However, once again.. for the area it is good. I'm also comparing it to Sophie's and anything is better then that. The madueros were way undercooked. They were a bit hard, pretty burnt and not sweet. Their staff is super friendly, and their prices are great. For the price, you can't beat it.

PROS 1. Beef Stew is Tender and Good. 2. Chicken Noodle Soup is Flavorful. 3. Mangu is well made. 4. Baked Chicken is Flavorful. 5. Friendly Staff. CONS 1. Chicken Stew is Tender but needs more Flavor.

Consistently rude service, food is passable nothing to rave about. Also, place is very dirty.

Asked for rice and beans, the woman behind the counter said they only had brown rice and no beans. Turns out the brown rice was actually white rice and beans together, the color from the beans rubbed off. There is a lack of clarity here. Another woman stepped in and told me that the beans were already in the rice and you have grrrrravy. Grrrrravy translation was a way of telling me to shut up about trying to get clarity. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Service was ok, not the friendliest. The cashier was at least smiling, possibly because he was collecting the cash. I ordered the baked chicken, black beans and yellow rice. The baked chicken was overly cooked, it was so hard my knife refused to slice the meat. I eventually had to use my fingers to pull the meat a part. Wasn't truly seasoned well, I'm associated basic seasons were used. The yellow rice was flavorless, not even salt was added. Thank goodness for the black beans. The beans were actually flavored and brought the rice to life. I've had better Dominican food in the Bronx.

Good: They updated the ceiling and repainted the restaurant. Bad: The chicken was VERY dry! Ugly: The staff should be more mindful when they speak Spanish in front of paying customers. The customers they talk negatively about, could secretly understand and speak the language!

Authentic Latino restaurant food is on point , their prices are respectable giving the fact where it is located in the flatiron / Chelsea area , sometimes when you order over the phone they either rush you on taking your order (not always though) or they'll put you on hold for a period of time (not to get discouraged about it though) just so that you are aware of what you might experience , also they close super early by 4:30pm so make sure you put in your order before their deadline , they don't stay open for dinner or a late lunch so that's out neither do they open on Sundays which really sucks. Besides that I will have to give them the priority over any other latino restaurants in the area , BE ADVISED THEIR FLAVOR WITH THEIR FOOD IS SPOT ON !! I will always be willing to order from them , very authentic taste better than your local Chipotle and or Taco Bell guarantee you that !!!

RECOMMENDED This review is based upon more than thirty visits to this restaurant: I'm a big fan of the Latin American Restaurant. It is a very sparely decorated and homey space with TVs featuring soccer games and Hispanic soaps.The friendly and hard working waitresses wear red uniforms and baseball caps. The aforementioned waitresses take orders quickly after your arrival and food arrives quickly.In my experience, I've always been able to get a seat at peak lunch times. On 2/26/16 I lunched here and ordered a Cuban Sandwich.The bread was fresh, with a perfect texture. The cheese was melted nicely and further melted in my mouth as I tasted it.The interior pork and ham was moist, tasty and not fatty.It was a delicious sandwich! As an alternative to the Cuban Sandwich, when I desire a heavier lunch, I order the Pernil (Roast Pork Shoulder) entree which comes with rice and beans. I choose my rice yellow and my beans black. The entree arrives with a plentiful, fatty, but not too fatty, portion of dark pork with a falling off the bone texture.It is seasoned exceptionally and always arrives with a nice amount of pork skin.The rice and bean sides are ample in portion and very flavorful. The price tag for this great lunch is about $12.00, after tip. The Latin American Restaurant is and will remain a vital part of my lunch rotation. It should be part of yours if you work near the 20 or 30 blocks of Manhattan.

Went here for lunch as part of weekly team outing. Everything about this place was too authentic for your average white-collar office plankton. Starting with the smell, menu which does not describes dishes, and poor service. Dining room was too hot. Chairs are somewhat small. And service is non-existent due to the volume of people eating here. Finally it is overpriced to for the experience received: just 4 blocks away is a superb place that would be happy to amaze you for the same price level. I am giving this place 2 start because it is not hopeless, it may be an interesting experience to visit once if you are hungry for unusual food and happen to be on this block. At the same time, if only the price was cut down to 50% - my rating would jump up for sure. But at the same time dining room was filled, so I guess there is no shortage of guests. Count this place as an authentic Spanish dormitory-grade food place.

food wise its good, not great just good. prices are normal and should come with more stuff but it does not. The place looks blah, it was so hot inside that people asked for a fan or the ac to be turned on. its not winter people, keep the air flowing. I had the yellow rice with goat and red beans. Not everyone can cook goat but this one was good. it needed a bit more heat, but i guess that is for the people that don't like it hot and they provide a hot sauce. It was a lot of bones, so not a fan that much. The rice was well cooked, not grainy or pasty(sticky). Service was better than the food/decor of the place. Might give them another shot, since the competition is not carribean per se (sophies) .its cooked to other standards in my opinion.

Great place for a Latin-American dish. The Service was excellent, they have food ready to eat and other dishes you can have prepared. Food came out of the kitchen very quick. The taste was great. We had 3 different dishes and they were all very tasty and delicious. The servings are pretty generous. Also prices are very accessible.

This small, family owned Dominican republic restaurant is located on 26th St, between 6th and Broadway. They have a counter for those who want to sit and chat with the wait staff and also tables in the back for those who want to have a bit more privacy. I got the beef and chicken empanadas and they were Perfect !!! Made with flour and fried, the filling was tasty, delicious and plenty of it..... They do not skimp on the meat. I also got a Lechon Asado meal, which came with white rice and black beans....Very good too !! The empanadas are $1.50 each and the dinner was $8. What a steal for its location near Broadway, the Flatiron area and the Fashion district. Stop by when you have a craving for Caribbean food and you will not be disappointed. I also saw on the menu....Mofongo, Cabrito, Patitas, Mondongo and many other Latin American delicacies !!

If I continue ordering from this place I may turn vegetarian. The food has lately been such a hit or miss. The beef stew (carne guisada) is supposed to be a soft meat, instead it's very muscle-ly, hard to the knife and hard to eat. Additionally, I gave up on the chicken empanadas, which ALWAYS have bones and the inedible parts of a chicken thigh, for example. Why not cook these with boneless meat rather than crushing the chicken pieces with their bones to stuff an empanada? The chicken soup was also once a favorite and is now off the list, due to the excessive amount of bones is the soup and bad parts of the chicken. Delivery is fast and courteous however. I can look past the customer service in the restaurant if the food were better quality. Please improve!!

Really awesome mofongo and a total hole in the wall joint.

I had the lunch special at this restaurant which was really underwhelming and not much value for the $8.70 that I paid for. The food itself is decent, tasty and good but certainly not great and the portions were on the small side so it's the type of place which you try once and never return to again. I posted a picture of my lunch which consisted of one chicken leg and the rest of it was just rice and beans, no salad, nothing. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options in the area if you're looking for some kind of Carribean/Spanish food so this is pretty much the only choice you have. However, as a general lunch option in the area what they have to offer leaves much to be desired.

More like 3.5 stars. If I want Dominican food near my job, this is the only place to get it from. Sophie's doesn't count because its not the same. We first came for lunch in the middle of the summer, bad mistake. There is no air conditioning!!!!!?!!!?!!?!!!!!! It was way too hot to really enjoy anything during the summer. I had the oxtail stew with arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) for $8.99. It wasn't the best that I had and it wasn't the worst. This place will do if I want Dominican food. The price is okay for the area. Next time, delivery or takeout!

Latin American Restaurant serves precisely that, Latin American fare. I know, real original right? The restaurant is super crowded during week days as people come in and chow down in a place that looks like it used to be a diner but is now pipin' with Latin American specialties across the board. Best thing about this place is they feature real authentic stuff and at a rock bottom prices. Some recommended items are their daily $5.99/$6.99 specials like the Carne Guisada (beef stew) or Lechon Asado (Roast Pork). Its nice to be able to eat here but delivery is also very quick. They're one of the places I know that has a $3.00 minimum. A couple of snapples and they're ready to go! Some of the waitresses are a little pushy here, but thats only because they're in a hurry. It may not be the most recommended setting, but the crowd rush dies out around 4PM and after. It might be worth checking out for cheap but yummy dinner.

This place is a great option for lunch in the Flatiron district and sometimes I just want to have some Latin food! For Lunch I had the Daily Special. Lechon Asado (Roast Pork) $6.99 with rice & beans- the dish is good, the pork is savoury, chunky, not overly chopped to tinny piece, and it was not too dry. Rated 4/5. Decor: don't expect too much. This place is for basic Latin food that is fresh and good. Tips: Friends/co-workers tell me they serve great breakfast too; opens at 7AM. Dinner? No, they close early at 6PM. Cash only.

Food here is amazing. I stop by twice a month on my way to work for breakfast. Takes me back to DR and the way its made there. Owners are very friendly.

I thought I would give props to this place, which is one of my favorite places in NYC to eat. This is a Dominican restaurant with home cooking style food. The inside looks like a cheap NYC diner, but the food can't be beat. I have been going here for years and I have tried almost everything on the menu by now. I like their stewed meat dishes the best. The meat is always soft and moist - it just falls off the bone. In my opinion, the pollo guisado, pernil, chicarron de pollo, carne guisada, pollo al horno, chuletas, bistec encebollado, and rabo are ALL excellent. I have had those dishes several times and they never disappoint. The chivo is also good (but sometimes a little tough) and the carne frita is good, but can be dry. The dishes come with white rice or yellow rice, and black beans or red beans. I find the rice and beans to also be consistently good.The best deal is their lunch special, which is only $6-$7.

Nothing special. Cuban sandwich was too light on pickles and mustard. Maduros were too hard and not warm. Service was mixed... Some people were nice others not as much. Disappointed.

A rare gem of an authentic Latin American Restaurant in midtown Manhattan. The interior has a warm, bustling vibe. Everything on the menu is under $12, which is a bargain considering the location. The mofongo was succulent and flavorful.

Great dominican food for very inexpensive prices. The staff its super friendly and efficient. If you order to deliver you get your order fast. FYI keep that cash handy they don't accept credit cards. I recommend the sancocho its there every day soup great flavor.. If you want avocado salad they seem to always be out of avocados..hmm very odd for a dominican place ...

The food here is fantastic. The environment is as close as it gets to your normal Bodega. Pricing is fair for Manhattan. The stew chicken and baked chicken are amazing. Unfortunately, there is one draw back. I have another spot I got to for Spanish food that's $6 for a similar meal. Justifying a $4 difference is solely based on where I am during lunch hours

This place hits the spot when I am feeling just a wee bit homesick for some Dominican food. The breakfast is good and filling and just like Mami would make: mangu with onions, queso frito, salami, and eggs. Yummy. Lunch can be hit or miss. In the tradition of most Dominican restaurants everywhere, their beans are bland and watered down compared to the homemade stuff I am used to. The maduros are tasty. I am a fan of their spaghetti lunch special. Service is always friendly and their delivery is almost supernaturally fast. Holy cow!

latin american restaurant is a certified authentic latin cuisine , listen folks not only is the food scrumptious & flavorful it is gratifying for your wallet as well . you bet i will continue to order from this place . the only reason i give it 4 stars is because they close early by 4 or 5pm , which i think they can reconsider to stay open for a later time , as for now during this whole corona craze , it's an excellent restaurant & there you have it !!

Not the best decor but who cares when the food is delicious, affordable and the staff so attentive.

I came here a few times with my colleagues for lunch when I don't want anything fancy. Restaurant is conveniently located a block away from my office. Food is alright, no frill, grab your seat, order, and food will come in no time. I had pork and chicken stews .. meats could've been a bit more tender. Most dishes served with rice and beans. I usually slap my meal with hot sauce to add some more flavor. I always feel like I'm in South America every time I eat here. There's always soap opera playing on an old school TV in the corner.

Only place in the neighborhood where you get a little piece of home! Food is good and the portions are perfect. Only downside is that they don't accept credit or debit cards. If your planning to have lunch get there quick as it can get very crowded.

Favorite place to go near the office. Best shrimp, yellow rice and beans in the area. Great service.

Domo, Domo, Domo Perfect if you wanna see a girl flash her thong to other patrons. Perfect if you love garlic mojito and want to drench tostones with it. Perfect if you want your waitress to spill a cup of ice on the table. Perfect if you love spending no money and being given the itis when you finish 70% of your food. Perfect if you wanna hear a human parakeet.

It is the worst customer service but the order to delibery is a disaster come late and cold. when I tried to call to ask for an explanation for the order that was cold and it was not at all what the ordered order was rude but the one in charge offered an apology but I send another order on thrown away and in poor condition..... careful this business is only interested in the sale not the quality!!!!

pretty awesome. I used to work a block away from this spot and ate lunch at least once a week. They deliver, but its great eating in as well. There is a counter if you're in a rush and seating in the back. Service is usually pretty fast and friendly. Lunch specials are a great price. Food is quality Latin American (please do not get it confused with Mexican). They have a damn good cuban I hear (I don't eat pork so I wouldn't know), but they also have a bangin' chicken sandwich-stew style. I've tried most of the menu and liked it all. Everything isn't great, but nothing is bad. My only caution is don't come here after 5. I was feeling nostalgic one day and tried to come back for dinner. MISTAKE: they were closing up and didn't have anything I wanted left. I guess that's the beauty of daily cooked home style food...when it's gone it's gone. HUNGRY HIPPO PICK: anything with the stewed chicken (my pick is sandwich, but sometimes you just feel like having fries too)

Stumbled across this gem on accident. I was in the city for a few days, and I had a few hours to kill so I started strolling the neighborhood for somewhere to eat. I came across a Chipotle and thought, "There's no way I'm eating at an eff'in Chipotle in New York." As I kept walking, I nearly missed the place, but back pedaled and went in because the door was wide open. There's an ATM almost immediately in front of the entrance, which is convenient since the place is cash only. Upfront there's a diner top, but the space balloons out in the back with more tables. The servers and cooks were all very friendly and chatty, which is always nice. I opted for a a chicken sandwich and a drink, and that came out to about $8, which was very reasonable for the size of the sandwich. I took a risk eating chicken at an unknown diner in Manhattan, but I survived; and it was delicious. I will be back there in a few weeks to try other dishes!

My go to spot for my morning cafe con leche for only $1.25 - What what!!! I love it. I't kills me that every other cafe charges twice the amount for something we call (cafe latte) same crap!! Also Love their soups!! YUM...just like my mama's!! Love love love that i work neaby this place

Now back in NYC, and having Miami withdrawal, I had a craving for Latin food after leaving the gym.. I took out my blackberry, loaded my trusted yelp application, and voila! There was a Latin restaurant a block from my gym.... I loveee hole in the wall places, and this for sure is one of them... In the front there is a bar where you could sit at, and in back tables and chairs.. A variety of $6 lunch specials, however, battling a cold, I opted for the Asopao de Pollo (Chicken Soup with Yuca, Potatoes, Noodles + rice on the side) and it was gooooood!!! and the price only $7. The people that work there are very friendly and chatty. It does live up to its name because the menu has many dishes you could find anywhere in Latin America (Sancocho, Mondongo) and more country specific such as a cuban sandwich... So, in closing - I would recommend this place for lunch if you are in the area, although I don't know if it worth taking the trip just to eat here....

This is a great lunch spot for relatively cheap on the weekdays. (Under $10) The only caveat is that they aren't open on the weekends and they close around 6pm. If you're looking for a full menu around 5:30 you probably won't get what you want. I consistently get the roast pork with red beans and yellow rice. Or the Roast Pork Mofongo. Service is always good, friendly and quick.

This is one of my favorites for take out food! Good old fashioned hearty Latino home style cooking, nothing fancy, but oh so delicious! I always get the Roast Pork with yellow rice and red beans.. and the fried plantains! It makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Even though Flatiron is a fairly good location, it would be better to take out, unless you don't mind eating in a dark and dingy seating area with construction road workers, etc... If you're ordering take out, know what you're going to order before you go in because it's fast paced during lunch hour and the middle area where you place your order is cramped. The food is cheap & awesome, which makes it a two punch knockout for me!

The place calls itself a restaurant but it impresses me more as a diner or coffee shop. Long lunch counter on the left as you walk in, several four tops in the rear. American pop music playing on my first visit. Help is Latin. Friendly waitress, fast service. I had my standard American breakfast - eggs, bacon, toast, home fries, coffee. Cheap at $4.35 with the tax. Food was fine; tho I did not like the potatoes all that much. Excellent coffee - they serve Cafe Bustelo.

This is the "other" Spanish restaurant around this neighborhood that I mentioned in the Sophie's Cuban restaurant review. While the food IS more authentic, and flavorful here...it's not exactly a nice place to sit and enjoy the view. I know it shouldn't matter, and the food is the main focus--which is REALLY good--but the place is so dive-y and ugly. Back to the food-this is the mecca for a $5-$6 lunch special of bountiful food. Portions are big, and variety is great. My co-workers and I were ordering from here regularly until we passed by one day--and while reading the menu on the outside window--noticed a squashed roach right next to it, we decided to change lunch spots. Listen, I know NYC is overun by roaches and yes, I have a few of my little friends at home too, but I don't really need to see a dead one right in the restaurant window before I eat there! At least clean it off.

Went with a coworker for lunch. Service was to be expected for a small establishment. Food wasn't in abundance, as with most Latin American restaurants but it was damn tasty. I had the Carne Fritas with yellow rice and red beans. Meat was fried - can't go wrong there! rice was perfect IMHO, nice n sticky how I like it, not overcooked. beans were surprisingly tasty. I"ll be back...mostly b/c the only other choice in the area is Sophies and I ate there 50x already.

Ehhh... Eating Spanish food for 33 years of my life, I know what is good and what isn't. Latin America is ehhh....it really depends what you get however. The lunch specials are cheap and are a good portion. I ordered up the porkchop with rice and beans. The rice and beans were good but the porkchop looked hurt. It was supppppper small with no meat and it was ORANGE from the amount of adobo and sazon they used on it. It sucked. Anyway, like I said, it really depends what you get, but it's not some where worth going out of your way for.
