L’Auberge Aveyronnaise - Review - 12th Arr. - Paris - The Infatuation

"This long-standing ode to Aveyron flies a kitschy flag, thanks to stone walls, checked tablecloths, and massive copper saucepans full of the stretchy mashed potato marvel known as aligot. The rich, cheesy mash rightfully arrives at nearly every table, either alongside a richly flavored, chunky sausage or a simple green salad with a zippy dressing. Service is aloof at best and full-on antagonistic at worst, and unfortunately, it’s anyone’s guess whether you’ll get to witness the artistry that is serving this stretchy side dish straight out of a copper pot or if your plate will simply be slammed down in front of you, potatoes already dolloped in a welcome mess puddle. But since everyone here is ordering the same thing, just pick a table with a view of the dining room, and you're sure to get front seat tickets to the show." - Emily Monaco

We had an amazing dinner here — truly delicious French cuisine at its best. The dishes were full of flavor, beautifully presented, and made with high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere was cozy and authentic, and the staff were warm and welcoming. If you’re looking for a great French dining experience, this place is a must. We loved it and will definitely come back!

Google
The food was very good and at a reasonable price. I had the lamb and chocolate mousse. The service was fast, but not so personal, still polite. Atmosphere quite okay, but tables are close together which makes it a little too tight. Overall, it was a good experience.

Google
Only 5/5 star I’ve given in Paris so far. Absolutely stunning food and wonderful staff. I had a blast eating here and I would come back again. Food is well priced and absolutely delicious the sea bass tartare was out of this world I cannot describe it.

Google
Amazing classic French food, with a neighborhood vibe. As a tourist it seemed super authentic (but I’m no expert) and they had a solid English menu. Wine selection very good. Service lovely.

Google
Excellent food! Always packed full of people. Service was a little slow. We had to constantly get the waiter's attention for questions and ordering.

Google
Bit of an institution in the neighborhood. Always packed so a good sign. Food was pretty good although a tad pricey for what it is. Service is efficient. Pays to book although we walked in early for lunch and scored a table.

If you go to france, you cannot not try the alligot, and here is a wonderful place to do so! So tasty, flavorful, and filling. Cozy atmosphere with welcoming and friendly staff. and if you dont know what an alligot is, the video says it all. Bonne appetit!

Google
Charming restaurant with a classic atmosphere. We came here to try the aligot and it was very cheesy and filling, worth trying out! It does get quite heavy and is best when hot. The highlight of the meal was the chocolate mousse, it had a deep chocolate flavour and was very smooth. Service was quite good, they seated us despite having no reservation, and many staff spoke English. Our server provided an English menu for us. It does get busy quickly later in the night.

Yelp
Came for the Aligot, got blown away by the Fois Gras sauce on my steak!! I'll obviously you have to order the Aligot, they make a delightful out of the pull from the pot, but I was blown away with how delicious the fog sauce was on my steak!

Yelp
Foie gras poéle - The Foie gras was satisfying. Nicely pan seared. Three hazelnut soup was interesting but I felt it was overwhelmingly salty. Lamb shoulder - The lamb was tender, but the highlight was the aligot potatoes. It was a bit of a presentation but they could emphasize that a little bit cause it's an attraction! The aligot potatoes were cool but just ok. Taste too much cheese than potatoes. May be more cream or less cheese will make the taste better. Nonetheless, it was not bad at all. Veal with mushroom sauce - mistake we made was ordered well done worrying that pink will be too rare. It was dry and not that tender. But it was our bad decision. The mushroom sauce was great in fact, the sauce was great with the aligot potatoes. Duck confit - The duck leg itself was tender as usual, only thing I would improve is to have a sauce to go with it. The meat was not dry but not juicy enough plus the meat lack flavor. A sauce will perfect it.

Yelp
I ended up visiting this restaurant more than once and will lay out what I ordered and my personal opinion on them. First off, the restaurant is open very late which is great for any night owls. The restaurant owner also is fluent in English. foie gras poele - This was pan-fried foie gras (duck liver) in a chestnut soup. The soup was creamy and delicious and the foie gras was unbelievably rich. This was a very rich and heavy course. Filet de boeuf - This was a nice filet of beef with foie gras sauce and came with a side of potato fries. This was incredibly delicious and cooked just as I had ordered (medium rare). The included fries were quite generously piled on. Tarte Tatin - This is a caramelized apple pie with sour cream. The pie was sweet and soft and the sour cream added some sharpness and tartness to the mix. I personally did not like this as much I had thought I would. The pie was extremely sweet which would make the sour cream an ideal complement but the sour cream's tartness was too strong. Creme brulee - Deliciously made and visually delectable. I thought it was a little small but this could be the side effect of how good it was.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service! Ordered the blue cheese steak. Comes served with a large bowl of french fried potato slices that had garlic on them. As an American I asked for ketchup. They had to run to grocery store to get it but waiting staff were superb. Others were eating the sausage with cheese potatoes. That looked amazing and I will try that next time.

Yelp
Super good! The aligot was veryyyy cheesy and creamy. I didn't like the sausages too much because they were a little too fatty but this is how they are supposed to be made. I didn't order the foie gras but I tasted a little of it and it was very rich and indulgent.

Yelp
Thank you yelp! Our best meal in France. Excellent aligot. We will be back someday!

Yelp
Our fist Parisian dinner did not disappoint! The greeters were funny, welcoming & warm. Our waiter was patient, (we don't speak French) very knowledgeable & kind. Our dinner was outstanding! I had roasted lamb & soufflé fromage. My wife has filet mignon with roasted potatoes. For dessert crème brûlée that was perfection!

Patty S.

Yelp
This restaurant never fails to disappoint. Fully recommended for the aligot and desserts.

Yelp
Came here because of the Business Insider video of Aligot? I know I did! While on a trip in Paris, I had aligot one night, then I realized I remember of a video about aligot. A quick search of the Business Insider video, which landed me here. L'auberge Aveyronnaise. Was able to make reservation! SCORE! When we arrived, the host greeted us and took us to our table. We were handed an english menu. If you are a fan of Foie Gras, boy this place did not disappoint! We ordered an appetizer, the foie gras de canard poele (Foie Gras on a chestnut soup) BOY OHHHHH BOY did we get a HUGEEE HUNKKKKK of Foie Gras! I was SOOOO Happy :) For the main, I ordered the Saucisse Aligot, which was the roasted pork sausage with mash potatoes and laguiole cheese (Aligot). The Aligot was something special! Never in my life I had something that was sooo cheesey, carby and mashy! He ordered a steak with Aligot! For dessert, we ordered the l'incontournable millefeuilles de l'auberge (there was a HUGE sheet of this near the front of the restaurant as you walk in). its basically a slice of flaky pastry with lots of cream layers. We also got the chocolate mousse! I hope someday I get to come back here!!!

Yelp
I can't even begin to describe how amazing the food here was, but let me try: I was in Paris for a layover and was looking for a good place to eat. I found this place through Yelp and TripAdvisor and was sold as soon as I saw the Aligot. I made a reservation just in case because I read that it can tend to get very busy. I got there at 9:30pm and it seemed like 3/4 of the restaurant was full. I read that the service tends to be slow here, so I tried my best not to get impatient. It took a good 7 minutes until I was able to finally wave down someone to take my order and bring me water. The waitresses weren't very friendly (possibly because I clearly wasn't French lol) but there was a male server who was the absolute sweetest worker. He saw me taking videos while he served the aligot to different tables, so he made sure to let me know when he was going to serve mine so I could get my camera ready, and asked me to show him the photos and videos after he brought my food to my table. He also brought me mustard and garlic and recommended me to try some on the aligot. *FOOD* Pave du Segala (19,30) - Pan-fried veal with morel sauce + upgrade to aligot (3,50) I forgot to tell my server that I wanted my veal cooked medium, but it came out pretty close to it, so t'was alright. It was a chunk of veal covered in a mushroom gravy sauce. The outside was deliciously crispy, while the inside remained juicy. There were a few tough parts that I had to cut my way through, but other than that it was delicious. I honestly would come here every day just for the aligot though. That was the main star of the show. Some people might think it's just for show, or that it's too overhyped, but trust me when I say this is the real deal. My first bite, I was a little taken aback at how rich the cheese flavor was. I thought it would be like mashed potatoes with cheese, but it seemed to be the other way around - cheese with mashed potatoes (if that makes sense HAHA). I didn't think I could finish the entire plate (it looks small when the guy is serving it, but trust me it's quite a lot) but low and behold, when I was done with my meal I thought "huh. I could go for another plate" because that's how good it was. It was a smooth texture, not rubbery like it looks, and just like my male server recommended, it went very well with the mustard and the garlic, as they both gave it a nice spicy kick. 11/10, I will definitely be back again sometime!

Yelp
Found this spot while looking for another spot. We wanted something besides the typical fast food burger crap around our house. It's off a little street at the end. Coat of arms hangs above the resto (red&yellow) not hard to miss :) The place was beautiful it's self the decor was nice and the place extremely clean and was quiet as we came early so it was perfect. Got a seat close to the window and was greeted in French and English by all the staff which was a treat. When you first sit down you get deep fried balls with cheese. A multigrain bread which is soft and delicious. Chacutrie platter was small so we had to order the foie gras as we didn't eat all day. Both our meals were excellent no complaints there whatsoever. They have a little show for when someone orders the bangers and mash the woman comes out with the big pot and the cheese and potatoes are mixed together and she does some fancy wizard wand motion and places it neatly on the plate. Would recommend to anyone new to Paris and tired of the same old same.

Yelp
You had me at aligot. The French know food and that statement holds especially true when talking about cheese. L'Auberge Aveyronnaise specializes in food from the Aveyron region of France. We were drawn to this restaurant by the promise of aligot, a dish from this area that consists of potatoes and cheese. It may be a pure carb fix but I do love my cheese so I had to give it a go. The restaurant is a little off the well beaten tourist path but easily accessible by metro. The dining room is very large with a rather rustic, old school style charm to it. When we wandered in at 12:30 it was practically empty and I must admit that I was a little concerned that it might be a sign that the restaurant wasn't very good. Fortunately it seems that the French dine later than we North Americans are accustomed to because it filled up shortly after. In fact I'm pretty sure that we were the only tourists in the place because I heard nothing but French being spoken around me which made me very happy because it meant that this restaurant catered more to locals than tourists. We started off with these fried cheese balls which were so delicious. The exterior was wildy crunchy and when you bit into it the cheese just exploded in your mouth unleashing so much cheesy goodness. That was followed by their signature aligot. Here the waiters bring the pot of aligot to your table and plate it in front of you and it gets you all excited for what is to come. As I mentioned before this dish is a pure carb fix but it is hard to care when it tastes as good as it does. I was so full but I couldn't bring myself to stop eating because I didn't want any of it to go to waste. Despite being so full I wanted one last French dessert before leaving France and heading to Germany so I ordered their version of the mille feuille, which consisted of a puff pastry packed with a vanilla custard. You could see the vanilla beans in the custard and it tasted delicious but the portion was too big for me, especially after that plate of aligot. Coming here was an excellent way to bid adieu to France and its oh so wonderful culinary delights. If I find myself in Paris again sometime soon I would most definitely return here for more of that aligot. In the mean time I will have to content myself with simply remembering how delicious it was.

Yelp
Delicious Food and great service from start to finish. Unfortunately I don't speak, the menu was in English and French. The staff was very nice, the food was amazing. The mashed potatoes (contains a LOT of cheese. Careful w allergies) and Lamb were exquisite. Really good crème brûlée and dry sausages with their signature salad and dressing.

Yelp
We chose this restaurant because we were a party including a toddler and needed a family-friendly restaurant. The staff were very kind and patient with our party, which we were very grateful for. The aligot was very tasty when warm (both by itself and fried balls). A little harder to eat when it cooled down unless you are a cheese monger haha. The veal and steak with frites were just ok, but the lamb was good. Drink options from the beer and wine perspective were limited. Desserts were tasty! All in all, we were very happy with our experience with the staff, but food was just ok, especially considering we were in Paris.

Yelp
I believe all French food is good, but this little place has the best Aligot I've ever tried. Cheesy mashed potatoes? Who doesn't like that?! And it's a dish typical to southern France that you can't find everywhere in Paris. I'd suggest making reservations if you go during busy hours.

Yelp
Came for the aligot mashed potatoes, and it did not disappoint! I'm a HUGE fan of cheese and potatoes so that dish instantly won my heart. For my American palette, however, it was very rich and needed a side of veggies to cancel out the richness. Nonetheless, I left 100% satisfied and was happy to check that off my French food bucket list. Came here during lunch hour on a random weekday and the place was PACKED with people having to wait to get seated. This is in a less toursity area so the place was filled with Parisians, so you know it's good :) We luckily came right when they opened so we were seated right away.

Yelp
Cheesy potatoes. Need I say more? Friendly servers, great food. Saw this place on a Facebook video and it lived up to expectations.

Yelp
Potatoes are so good. Service is excellent. I did have to use my translator app as I don't speak French but it wasn't a problem. Def a must while in Paris!

Yelp
This is a local restaurant that has never disappointed. Helpful staff and enough English speakers create a perfect choice for this traveler. The confit de canard is delightful and perfect. Don't change a thing. I look forward to my next meal.

Yelp
Best place we've eaten in our 3 days in France! The cheesy mashed potatoes with sausage is a MUST TRY for at least one in your party so all can try it. They have a giant bowl with the cheesy potatoes and keep bringing back out of the kitchen (off the heat) to put it on the plate right in front of you. We will be back in a couple days! Trout was perfectly cooked, and the sausage was so flavorful. Looks like a small restaurant from the outside, but inside it's packed with happy customers.

Yelp
We had an amazingly meal. First day in paris and we wanted authentic French cuisine, we were not disappointed, highly recommend.

Yelp
The ambiance- magnifique! The service- great (with the exception of our desserts that slipped the minds of our servers) The food and wine- fantastique! Its a little far from the city but I would highly recommend this place to a couple looking for a romantic and memorable dinner in Paris. Make sure you try the Aligot!

Yelp
We went here the first night in Paris last February. We got there a little early for dinner and the place was still empty. At first I was a little apprehensive, I mean an empty restaurant does not bode well. How wrong I was! The place filled fast shortly after we arrived. I was even happier when the food arrived. Simply wonderful dishes. Savory country pate. Veal cooked to perfection. And the potatoes were more cheese than spuds. And all of this washed down with a Belgian style beer. I was very happy as I was rolled out the door and back to our air b&b!

Yelp
Such a fun authentic-seeming experience for lunch at L'Auberge Aveyronnaise! Place was packed, discussions were very lively (and loud in case that's a concern for you; for us, it just made the experience that much better). Staff was helpful and patient with our English. Aligot was delicious! I liked the sausage that came with it at least as much as the aligot itself. Other items were good, but may not be to everyone's taste, such as ham hock in lentils. Salad with duck and cheese was good and filling. Overall, a great experience.
google avatar

Nancy J.

Yelp
this place is famous for its aligot, which is publicized on buzzfeed's instagram and it was pretty decent. The sausage that comes with the aligot is pretty mediocre and overly salty. Really nice location though, and the mille feuille was nice

Yelp
So good!! Got the lamb shoulder with aligot and both were so tasty and the perfect amount. Will definitely be back next time in Paris

Yelp
My wife and I went to L'Auberge Aveyronnaise on our last night in Paris. It was just down the street from where we were staying. We were staying at the Ibis Styles Bercy (77 Rue de Bercy, Bercy, Paris). The Receptionist at the Ibis Styles Bercy recommended this place (she was right on the mark! It was worth the short five minutes walk from the hotel.). This is a good restaurant. It was worth the money. The food was good. The service was good. The waiter was attentive. My wife ordered a Starter which was a salad with quail. It was good. She then had some kind of braised veal for the Main Course. She liked it. I ordered a confit with foie gras and chestnut soup as my Starter. It was good. I then had a broiled skate fish fillet. It was wonderful. I will admit that neither my wife, nor I, had any qualms about what we ate. It was wonderful food. I say this because I know that some people call what we ate as very politically incorrect. I know that things like skate wing, foie gras, and even veal, are banned in certain areas of the USA because of politics surrounding them. Anyway, this is a wonderful restaurant in Bercy Village, Paris. It is worth going here. When I return to Paris, I will go back here for dinner.

Yelp
Came here for the aligot and it did not disappoint!!!!! Very cute with the red checkered table cloths. We took one to go for my sister and it was still so good heated up days later. The charcuterie board we had was okay but that was fine since we came specifically for the aligot.

Tim M.

Yelp
Il faut y aller et manger de l'aligot avec des saucisses, ma femme aimait bien le poulet aussi. Vraiment super! Service geniale et chaleureux. You have to go and eat the aligot with sausage, but my wife really enjoyed the chicken too. Truly super! The service was kind and warm.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. It's in this great little area called Bercy. I've stopped in multiple times and it's always delicious. My favorite is the aligot and sausage. They make the aligot next to your table. It is a mix of potato and cheese. Pared with a little red wine. It's the perfect dinner! The atmosphere is lively inside and a cute little patio outside. Don't miss out on the desserts and after dinner cherries.

Yelp
Our favorite meal of our European vacation! Heard the hype about this place's aligot and it exceeded our expectations! They kept their place open mid afternoon to feed our hungry crew. A must eat place in Paris!
