I had Laune's bread before they opened their storefront, and despite my excitement over them opening a store in my neighborhood I hadn't managed to get there until today. Is there anything better than pastries and coffee on a chilly, snowy April Saturday? Laune offers bread subscriptions and delivery, which they've been doing since the beginning, but now their storefront offers walk-in bread and pastry purchases, albeit on a limited Thursday-Saturday schedule. It is worth taking the time to stop in! I was amazed with the variety of pastries they had for being a pretty small bakery, there was so much to choose from. I had a spinach cheese croissant and a cardamom walnut coffee cake and enjoyed both (I finished both within the 10 minute walk home). I'm excited to try their sandwiches and Friday pizza soon, as well. I was surprised that the pastries didn't cost more than they did ($4-5 avg) for the quality and hyperlocal ingredients they use. Laune has a number of things that make it unique: all of their breads are naturally leavened sourdough; they are very serious about their ingredient sourcing (76% midwest, 48% minnesota--amongst other stats that they are very transparent about https://launebread.com/sourcing), they have a bread fund to donate loaves to members in the community, and they offer bread delivery subscriptions. This little company is doing so much and not comprising their values. I love that they are part of my community. I highly recommend stopping in (hot tip: they have coffee, too).
