"Downtown Culver has been waiting for a place like Laurel Grill since the The Wizard of Oz cast was hanging out at The Culver Hotel. With its warm glow and polished wood decor, this splashy “neighborhood grill” from the Laurel Hardware people looks like a high-end spa, though we can’t name many spas with a grand piano in the dining room. The crowd-pleasing food draws from the Houston’s playbook, and that’s no slight, especially for studio execs who demand a good caesar. Start with the gooey mozzarella cheese bread, refreshing mango ceviche, and grilled ribeye, then order a nightcap on the fire pit patio." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder, cathy park
"You can roll into Laurel Grill for a last-minute dinner, and it’ll feel like one you planned weeks ago. This charming Culver City steakhouse is essentially a gold-lit Hillstone restaurant with a grand piano in the dining room and a menu full of crowd-pleasers like salads, ribs, and pizzas. The best move is to grab a seat at the bar, but there are also plenty of cushy booths if you really want to settle in. And even if there is a small wait, they'll have you wait on the firepit patio with a drink in hand." - sylvio martins, brant cox, garrett snyder, cathy park
"Downtown Culver has been waiting for a spot like Laurel Grill since the The Wizard of Oz cast was hanging out at The Culver Hotel. With its warm glow and polished wood decor, this splashy “neighborhood grill” from the Laurel Hardware people looks like a high-end spa, though we can’t name many spas with a grand piano in the dining room, an open kitchen with roaring wood hearth, and a $22 wagyu hot dog on the menu. The crowd-pleasing food draws heavily from the Houston’s playbook, and that’s no slight, especially for picky studio execs who demand a good caesar salad and fries. Start with the gooey mozzarella cheese bread, refreshing mango-salmon ceviche, and grilled ribeye seasoned by someone who knows what they're doing, then finish with a nightcap on the fire pit patio." - brant cox, arden shore, sylvio martins, cathy park
"Taking a page from the Hillstone playbook, this Culver City spot goes all-in on “neighborhood grill” nostalgia without sacrificing sophistication. The polished, cherry wood space looks like the nicest Applebee’s to ever open inside a Rosewood Hotel. Picky studio execs nod approvingly as their ribeye arrives a perfect well done, and families with kids sigh with relief because they found a nice restaurant with hot dogs and mozzarella sticks. It’s a judgment-free zone at Laurel Grill—a big deal for your 35-year-old cousin who still orders grilled cheese in public." - brant cox
"Dean McKillen, the restaurateur behind celebrity favorite restaurants Laurel Hardware and Ysabel, has expanded into Culver City with Laurel Grill. Set on the top floor of the Culver Steps, which also houses Erewhon, the restaurant looks like something straight out of a Ritz-Carlton with blonde wood, a piano on display, and a few flickering gas fireplaces out front. The menu makes sense with its aesthetic, serving well-executed but not entirely adventurous dishes like chowder, pizza, a burger, and steak. It’s a restaurant where everyone will have a good time, especially since the service is excellent." - Rebecca Roland
