"Located in OldQuébec, alongside the Old Port, this restaurant exudes an elegant contemporary style thanks to a palette of beige tones, bubble-shaped pendant lights, and leather-covered tables. This is the Vézina family establishment, and it is Raphaël, the founder's son, who now holds the reins. This seasoned thirtysomething showcases seasonal produce and ingredients fromQuébec's terroir (bison, scallops from the Magdalen Islands, etc.) in modern dishes that often demonstrate a hint of creativity: spot prawn and pear marinated in wild ginger and burnt citrus; buckwheat tartlet with foie gras and Jerusalem artichoke,Québechazelnut praline. The interplay of shapes, textures, and cooking methods, always on point, is a feast for the palate. Certain French dishes are given a twist—for instance tartiflette or kugelhopf, the latter prepared using Alpine sweetgrass." - Michelin Inspector

Immersive Dining Reinvents the Concept of Dinner Theater - AFAR

"A family-owned Québec City restaurant opened by chef Daniel Vézina in 1991 that frames dining as a lesson in local culture: guests choose from five multicourse menu themes that explore Québec’s seasons, indigenous cuisines, and regional traditions. The cuisine emphasizes hyperlocal ingredients such as Boileau deer, fresh catches from the St. Lawrence River, and maple syrup, while plates, tableware, and décor crafted by regional artisans reinforce the narratives about products, history, and the land." - Natasha Bourlin

From the moment we walked in we were greeted by name and very warmly. We were introduced to the kitchen staff and then sat. The food was exceptional in taste, composition and presentation and paired perfectly with the two levels of wine choices. Can’t even choose a favourite course, it was all so good but the tartelette and the vege were the delightful surprises and the safroned apple dessert was one of the best desserts we’ve ever had. The service and attention to every detail was perfect. Fabulous experience gentlemen and lady. Thank you for a wonderful 10th Anniversary dinner.

My first Michelin experience and we were not disappointed. Flawless service ( shout out to Kevin). And all the staff! Brilliant job by the chefs. A true food experience. Thanks to all for giving us an night to remember

Michelin Star well deserved. Delicious food, amazing service, the perfect night with my love. Well explained wine pairings that complemented the dishes perfectly. We even had the opportunity to speak to chef. A perfect evening.🫶🍷🍽👀

Great night, great food in Quebec! The food was good but not sure it's worth a Michelin star. The service is impeccable. The decor is lovely. I hate beets and was able to eat theirs since the flavours cover the earthy part I hate in beets, big step for me. We were 4 and loved our night.

Google
Incredible flavors, excellent wine pairings, and top notch service - highly recommend!! We did the 10 course, one of us did the discovery wine and the other traditional which was fun to taste all of them. The broths are stunning. Beet butter - oh wow! Presentation and service (Kevin!) definitely worthy of Michelin star too! Four hour experience with the after lounge fun :-)

This was my third time to Laurie Raphael. The food continues to be some of the best I've had around the world. Every course was 100% amazing. The service is second to none! The unfortunate part of my visit this time is that there is not space for parties larger than 4 inside and hence my party of 5 was seated in the outdoor terrace. The terrace is exceedingly loud with road traffic, causing us to struggle to hear conversations and the description of the food. A really unfortunate circumstance. If you can book a seat inside you won't be disappointed.

Google
Wonderful restaurant. Greeted by chefs as we entered through the kitchen. Knowledgable server who was also our informed sommelier. Amuse bouche and foie gras courses were the best. Two main courses were excellent but really the dinner's first elements were most creative. Chocolate last course also amazed. The wait staff were friendly, warm, and knowledgable. We and next table were celebrating birthdays and we kept hearing about this for them but not for us, which felt awkward. I often find that wait staff work more to impress diners their own age and treat older couples tenderly but with distance, but it is we who likely have sampled dozens and maybe hundreds of michelin star restaurants and have run ( and sometimes run down) the world ;-). Wine list impressive and our waiter found us a less common wine from the south of france which was special. Overall, a truly excellent restaurant which has a well earned star.

Exceptional food and excellent service. Unconventional blending of pastry and entree and perfect balance of flavor. A must go.

Yelp
It was our first time at Laurie Raphaël and the one we will not forget! Very unique gastronomic and fine dining experience! Each dish deliberately crafted by a Chef... presentation - superb! Wines paired perfectly and also the selection that you most likely will not find anywhere else. They may not be the most expensive wines but you can be assured, they are carefully selected with a special touch and your special guest's experience in mind! Absolutely magical fusion of local Quebec and French cuisines... sourced from the local farms and producers... with a very elegant and amazing preparation and presentation. Small dining room, very special experience. It may just become the most memorable dining experiences of your Life. Highly recommend. Can't wait to return!!!! Magnifique!!!

Yelp
I booked a time here and then on the way in a car, I got a call from their bar location saying I could only eat there even though hours before I booked a table. My intention was to have their tasting menu, I had a choice of a smaller menu of tasting menus. It was sad and drinks were lacking for someone who wanting the my plus drink menu. If you are booking a table here be were you may not have actually booked it, and no compensation will be made, food was just ok, nothing special and no accommodations will be made

Yelp
My wife and I had terrific dinner at Laurie Raphaël. As a gastronomic restaurant, Laurie Raphaël does not disappoint. Every part of the dining experience is very well thought out and executed. After we arrived, the host led us through the restaurant to our table. Surprisingly, the first part of the restaurant that we entered was the kitchen, where Chef Raphaël Vézina and his Chefs all stopped whatever they were doing and greeted us with a hearty, "Bonsoir!" The entire space is beautiful and modern. After we were seated and enjoying a cocktail, the complete tasting menu was explained to us. My wife and I wanted to enjoy a lighter dinner on the final night of our first ever trip to Vieux-Québec, so we chose the five-course Menu Personnalisé over the full eight-course Expérience Gastronomique. I also chose to have the wine pairings with my meal. The food was terrific; inventive and delicious. We really enjoyed the pairing of cucumber with caviar, and the textures and flavors of the lobster course were fantastic. I only wish that I had been offered some bread to soak up every last bit of the sauce. There were no missteps with any of the dishes, which were all delicious. I'll post photos. The wines were chosen playfully and from all over the world. I particularly enjoyed the Il Roccolo di Monticelli di Rado, which transported me back to Venice. At first, I worried that the service would be less convivial than I prefer. The staff appeared to have clearly defined roles; some set the table, others delivered the food and others cleared the table. However, there was one gentleman who came by to introduce each course, and showed great humor when I asked him to do it in both English and then French, and, finally, both English and French at the same time. As tourists, the only part of our meal that was lacking was a clear connection between the food and wines to the locality. We travel to eat and experiencing the terroir is important to us. I was hoping for a more clearly Québécois meal. For example, I selected the cheese option for my dessert course. It was a play on carbonara; a flan of egg, Louis d'Or cheese and guanciale. While the cheese is from Québec, I might have thought that I was in Rome, instead of Québec. As I said, however, this feeling is particular to us as tourists. As a gastronomic experience, our meal lacked nothing and would stand out anywhere that we have been in the world.

Yelp
Walking in you go through the kitchen which is cool, but the service could be better. Maybe it was because I was a single person dining, but I felt like I was forgotten. I arrived 10 minutes before my reservation at 8:30, and my order wasn't taken until 40 minutes after seating before 9PM. I asked for the Wi-Fi once, was given the wrong code; asked another server (who gave me a completely different password) and finally connected. Out of the 3 fine dining restaurants I went to in Quebec, this was my least favorite. The food was subpar to me, but I did like the variety of breads and butters I was served (but who could go wrong with bread and butter right?!). For the last course, Roots, I chose the Vol-au-vent, comtomme cheese espuma, confit and pickled onions, lingonberries; expecting this to be some sort of a cheesecake I was totally wrong! First off I was served the dish. I was on my phone so I didn't eat it right that second, and then the server came and took the dish away, replacing it with the exact same [looking] plate, saying the wrong one was served to me. This was very odd to me. Then to go over the flavors - It wasn't my favorite, especially with the pickled onions, so I only ate a few bites of it. The server asked why I didn't finish it so I said I didn't quite like it and she asked if I wanted to try the other one, and this was much more of a dessert than the weird pickled onion tart. Overall, I was a bit disappointed in the meal and the service for being a high end restaurant.

Yelp
Tremendous dining experience for our anniversary. Everything was delicious and the service was outstanding. The only disappointments were first course in the bar because the early seating went late., and the wine pairings were good - not great - and largely Canadian.

Yelp
This is an elevated experience on every level! It is exactly as described, unique, fresh, artistic, beautiful, memorable, visual, gustatory, personable. The food is fantastic; however, in the end, the memories are less of specific dishes or wines and a more overwhelming sense of pleasure and pure contentment arising from the experience. The service was the best we have experienced in Quebec City. This place is a true must try and worth the expense

Yelp
One of the best meals of my life, so of course I had to go twice. The menu was created by chef Daniel Vezina and Raphael Vezina...father and son duo, but Raphael is the one manning the kitchen at Laurie Raphael. I will eat anything from this restaurant. It was so good! I booked my reservation online and they called to confirm my appointment and to check to see if you have an food allergies. The restaurant sits near the St. Lawrence River, so you can walk over there before your reservation. You want to look nice dining here, but I was pretty casual and it was fine. I don't recommend going there in a tank top and shorts. The host/hostess first opens the doors to the kitchen so they can welcome you in. You are whisked to a cocktail lounge area where you can order a drink, get two amuse bouches and are presented with the menu. You can choose between a 3 or 5 theme. Each theme has 2 dishes. I chose the 3 theme the first visit and had major regrets because I really wanted to try all the dishes, but it was a lot of food. The interiors are pretty, but I never felt more uncultured then when I used the utensil rest as a coaster. There's a rest for the butter knife and a rest for the eating utensils, but nothing for the drink. I loved how they replaced all utensils with each course served. Service was impeccable and they explained each dish. The lag time between each dish was perfect. Two or three types of bread were passed out during the meal. I recommend adding the dash of salt. The 1st dish was the halibut ceviche. That was good, but the next dish blew me away. The charcoal grilled scallop with strawberry dish was one of the best things I've ever eaten. For the second visit two days later, it was modified to a scallops and tomato dish which was good but a bit of a disappointment because the strawberry dish was incredible. The third dish was a summer truffle quail ballotine and was followed by a Quebec beef dish. For my second visit, I changed it to two lobster dishes. I prefer the quail and beef dish over the lobster dishes b/c it gives the meal a bit of variety instead of just seafood. For dessert 1, it was a savory Grey Owl cheese panacotta, which was a little rich. Dessert 2 was a large dark chocolate and hazelnut rocher over a cookie and a side of berry sorbet. The meal was finished off with a tiny little dessert. Overall, this one of my favorite restaurants in the world. I loved the creativity, quality and execution of the dishes. Some of the dishes were Asian inspired and felt very international. I was impressed with everything about this restaurant and would come back to Quebec just for a meal here.

Yelp
Alors....... If you are looking for a Michelin 2 star experience in Canada then look no further than Laurie Raphaël. Young chef de cuisine Raphaël Vezina continues the tradition of grande gastronomie established years ago by his celebrated chef father Daniel. This young brigade are talented and creative far beyond their years and the ambience and elegant service complete the entire gastronomical tour de force. If you eat at one Canadian fine dining establishment, make it Laurie Raphaël. Pierre Doucet

Yelp
We arrived on a rainy night without reservations. The hostess brought us in through the kitchen where the chef and staff greeted us with warmth. We ordered the tasting menu. It was amazing!!! Some of the most innovative dishes we have tried anywhere. The wait staff were attentive and delightful. A really nice evening. Yum!

Yelp
What do you say about one of the best meals in your life? We came here because I read LaurieRaphael is really good and really expensive, but has a really reasonably priced $30 three course table d'hote at lunch. We were led from the entrance through the kitchen which my kids loved because the three chefs stopped to yell out cheery "bonjour!"s their way. The restaurant has a tree theme going on with a gold twisty tree in the center and tree trunk-colored walls. I was a little nervous going in - I'd never really had French or Quebecois food before, and I was making my pork-averse husband and twin 6-year-olds come with me. The kids were easy to please. The server suggested that the kitchen make them a pasta - would we prefer tomato, cheese sauce, or a mix of the two? We went with the mix and it was really good. They shared it and we even had leftovers. LaurieRaphael only charged us a very reasonable $10. So for a fancy restaurant it was fairly kid friendly (especially compared to another place that told us that the kids would have to order the entire table d'hote to eat there). The table d'hote had two choices for the app and entree and one choice for dessert. There were no vegetarian options in the first two courses so I'm not sure how they handle vegetarian diners. One course did have pork and another had fois gras (a no go for both of us), but we do like seafood and those were the other options. I was very apprehensive about the appetizer, which included flounder in aspic. Flounder jello? No. Thank. You. Despite expecting something that tasted similar to some sort of horrible gefilte fish, I dug in. It was surprisingly good. The best part of the dish (and the whole meal) were the flounder croquettes. There were lots of dots of carrot yuzu sauce. The plate looked beautiful. The second course was also excellent. In our shallow bowls were crusted halibut fillets with different little green things - fresh peas, maybe tiny cucumbers? (I'm wishing I'd kept a menu now) - onto which the server poured a "Nordique" (Nordic?) pesto. The pesto wasn't your garden variety pine nuts, basil, and parmesan. This was foresty somehow. (Again, wishing I'd kept a menu.) The dessert was straight out of Top Chef. It was called a "fruit salad" but composed of lots of little scoops and dots of things. There was more of the yuzu carrot, also purple cream things (again, no menu to refer to now), ginger cookies, and kiwi sorbet. Despite not knowing what I was eating (and to the servers' credit it was explained as it was brought out - I just couldn't remember), it was all really good. Yes, the plates were beautiful, but more than that the taste of the food was exceptional and I loved the innovation. I was so smitten I looked into going to the Montreal branch several days later, but was disappointed to discover that for $40 it was a blind tasting menu (and after much prompting the receptionist confided that it did include pork) so that was a no go. Too bad. Thanks Moon Guide for the tip!

Yelp
Contrary to what Yelp wants, I am going to keep it short. Laurie Raphael is not just a restaurant--it is an experience. The food is great, the staff is amazing and the ambience is just what you are paying for. Please do yourself a favor and do not read anymore about this place. Let it surprise you!

Yelp
When we were last in Quebec city about 14 years ago, we ate at this restaurant and we remembered it very well. It is a complete culinary experience. So we were back again last night. Eating at this restaurant is a commitment. This is really a place for foodies who plan to make the time and financial commitment of having the experience. You should be aware that you'll be there for at least 2 1/2 hours, possibly more. It will cost you at least $200 a head. It is so worth it. Upon arriving, you are greeted by the hostess and you will go through the end of the kitchen to get to the bar. At the bar you will have a drink and a few small tastings from the kitchen will be brought to you. The maître d' will explain the menu to you. I am sure the way they do things it changes from time to time and frequently. For our meal We had to choose between a three and five at stage meal. Each stage has two courses. Because of dietary restrictions with one of the stages, we picked the three stage meal so this meant six courses each. Also, you and your dining partner do not have to pick the same stages. The food is very creative, with excellent presentation, and interesting flavors. It's very hard for me to describe any one of the servings because they are so complex but a few ingredients that made it onto the plates included chanterelle mushrooms, venison, ground cherries, charred buckwheat, and fois gras. We also chose to have the wine pairing with each course that the restaurant picks. There are two levels of this. The lower level is called the sommelier and these are younger winemakers. The higher quality pairing is the classic with established French wineries. The classic is more expensive but worth it because the wines are superb. Since each of us was doing a different level, we were definitely able to tell the difference between the quality of the wines immediately. (Sidenote, one of the wines in the classic that we got was from 1990.) As expected, the service was top notch and this significantly enhances the experience. The decor is a modern ambience and the lights are dimmed but not to an uncomfortable level. I would recommend that you dress nicely, dress jeans and a dress shirt and blazer are fine for men. They aren't going to turn people away who aren't dressed up but I don't know why you would go to this kind of restaurant and not want to feel a little special with your dress. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Quebec city.

Yelp
Don't go there if you think of food just a stomach filling, you will be disappointed even before you see the bill. This restaurant is a place where cooks are artists and guests come in to enjoy their states of art. Be prepared to spend $400 per person and have 3 hours of time to enjoy the brilliance of culinary. All the courses were great, but things like dehydrated vegetables, soft prawns, thin sliced white truffles with eggs or foie gras with oranges were truly remarkable. And I had a lot of new experience with wines: champagne made of Pinot noir (I usually hate champagne, but this one was great), oxidative yellow wine, dry white with a smell of a sweet ice wine. I'd recommend this restaurant for every real foodie who is not afraid of the cost.

Yelp
Disappointing, over hyped, over priced. My husband and I are "foodies" - we have dined at many Michelin star restaurants in several countries. We appreciate creative, inventive food - but Laurie Raphaël missed the mark. Your parings have to actually be good. The service, too, was lacking. Too focused on having everything technically perfect (presenting plates at the exact same time) while missing basic details. We were not offered bread until we were halfway through our final entree course (we were never offered butter). When a dish was totally uneaten, the server did not inquire whether there was a problem (the food was undercooked and inedible). The wine was perhaps the worst wine I have ever had at a fine dining restaurant, and should at the very least have been decanted. Totally disappointed to have wasted our money and our time here.

Yelp
Came with high expectations, while I enjoyed the meal and found it very creative and unique there are some minor kinks in the road for the restaurant to become a flawless experience for diners. Upon entering the restaurant, you are escorted through the kitchen where the chef's greet you with a energetic smile and you get a sense of the pace of the kitchen and the space they work in. I thought this was a great touch. Afterwards you're escorted into the lounge (or waiting area) where they offer you a cocktail list, I personally didn't order anything as I knew the meal ahead would be long and I would have the wine pairings to accompany anyways. At this time they offer 2 amuse bouches, gret little starts to the evening. My pet peeve about this portion of the night was that we waited 20 minutes or so for someone to come and explain the menu (which they tell you someone will do once they escort you to the lounge), I found the vibe to be like a holding area, if I don't want to have a cocktail and I am at my schedule reservation then I should be seated and have my dinner started! not just waiting around... We were finally seated after 45 minutes! Aside from this the dinner service was great, effortless, fast and attentive. They allowed my boyfriend and I to share a wine pairing (which saved us $ plus, individual whine pairings are way to much to drink alone!) I liked that they also portioned out the wine into our own glasses (at some restaurants they only pour 1 glass for us to share). I will note they do not have a sommerlier explain each wine pairing, instead our server did this, which was fine but there is a certain knowledge and passion that I love when speaking to a sommerlier during a tasting menu and this element was absent from the experience. Without spoiling anything...The meal was inventive, creative, fresh; yet channeled a lot of Quebecious ingredients and flavours. A small portion of the dishes were a touch salty. Other than that I was very pleased with the experience. Overall: Yes, I would go again. I would recommend booking an earlier time than the time you want to eat at. Keeping in mind you may spend anywhere between 15-45 minutes in the lounge. Great meal regardless, beautiful restaurant space, lovely staff.

Yelp
The restaurant has great ambiance and is definitely a must-go for lunch. For $50, you can get a five course lunch. While all the dishes are excellent, I especially loved the beef tartar and the duck. The soba was a bit bland. but the dessert was amazing too. It is a must eat for anyone visiting Quebec.

Yelp
An unbelievable dining experience. Jeff and Samuel were extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. We came for our honeymoon and it was easily the best dining experience we've ever had. We've been to two Michelin star restaurants before, but this one exceeded both by miles ( 1.6 kilometers). Jeff and Samuel both translated everything flawlessly. We highly recommend it! We did the 11 course option -- worth every cent.

Yelp
Fantastic evening! It was not just an all time great meal, but an unreal experience! If you are in QC, this is an absolute MUST DO. 5 course and pairing.

Yelp
My wife and I are visiting Quebec from San Antonio TX. Not much to say except this was an exceptional dinner. Probably one of the best f...king meals and service we've ever had. I would recommend LaurieRaphael without any reservation any time. Very special place. I travel a lot and this beats San Francisco, New York, Singapore, Long Beach, Nanking and London.

Yelp
Food was good. I liked 80% of it. Beautiful presentation and a great experience. Service was impeccable. This was my dinner... 2003 pomerol...Amuse bouche is lobster salad with coriander and mint....2nd amuse bouche was a duck liver Pate...a ceviche of halibut...clams with something...salad w/pork confit...seared fois gras with melon gazpacho ...lobster claw... lobster tail.... seared veal with cheese stuffed zucchini flowers..,roasted quail...cheese plate( actually like a cheese moose doughnut) and finally rhubarb and basil sorbet... oops not done. Let's add a Madeleine and some candies

Yelp
I returned to Laurie Raphael again this year for the 5th time, and it was as exceptional as ever. Somehow they combine traditional, provincial Quebec cuisine with high-end contemporary techniques in a way that brings out the best of Old and Modern Quebec. They use ingredients from Charlevoix, so each meal is a taste of Quebec. The wine list is outstanding, and they do an excellent job of matching the perfect wine with each meal. It is a bit pricey, but not absurd and definitely not over-priced. Very friendly staff, excellent location (easy walking distance from le Chateau Frontenac, even in the cold of winter), and very inviting space/decor. I recommend ordering the "Chef Chef" and trust the outstanding chefs to create a meal for you. I went twice this year, and I will return each December when I visit Quebec.

Yelp
Best restaurant I've been to. I love food, eating and food. We took the 10 course meal. It was delicious. Paired with an amazing red wine suggested by the sommelier. The service was great. Made such a big difference in the experience. We even thank the cook and took pictures with him. Great job! We will be back for sure.

Yelp
Unfortunate experience there last night. While we understand that sometimes things can go wrong in the kitchen, the restaurant's response to our dinner going off the rails was what prompts my two star rating. After entering the restaurant at 8:40 for our 8:45 reservation we were led through the kitchen where we met the chef and he took a photo with us. We were led into the bar area, seated and told that we would have small bites, receive a cocktail and have the menu discussed with us. We sat for several minutes and then our order for drinks was taken. My husband ordered a vesper martini, something we have had in every other restaurant in Quebec (in fact were introduced to it on this trip). The bar did not have the ingredients. I decided not to drink, was planning on doing wine pairings and thought it unnecessary since, after all, how long would I be sitting in the bar area. They brought me a glass of room temperature (not kidding) tap water. After 15 or so minutes they did bring us a couple of amuse Bouche type of things and went over the menu. Then we sat and sat some more. Tired of just sitting I ordered glass of wine. We were finally seated, the last couple from the bar area, a few had arrived after us. Having read great things about the food here, we selected the maximum tasting menu with the 'classic' wine pairings (classic equaling most expensive). The meal was divided into several different groupings of food. The first few went off fine and were quite delicious. Things began to bog down about two hours into the meal. A cod dish which wasn't good. Then a long wait for a veal and sweetbreads dish which was really off. Then a full timed 20 minutes, just sitting without any waiter even looking at us (there were more waiters then actual full tables, it's a small space and multiple diners had finished their entire meal). Then finally a waiter coming to tell us that they had mixed up in the kitchen and were redoing something, just a little longer, then sitting and sitting. Finally it was enough, we asked for the check. I want to be clear. We never complained, raised our voices or even asked where the food was. Instead of apologizing the manager brought our check, told us we were unreasonable for thinking 25 minutes was too long between courses and charged us for a full meal. Sorry little man, a 25 minute gap between food service during a 12 course meal is not a leisurely dinner, it's a meal killer and playing offense when you should have been contrite was obnoxious. A rousing disappointment on every level. I don't care how beautiful your space is, how fancy your menu conception, how pretentious your food, it all comes down to how you make the customer feel. And LaurieRaphael does not get that. One other note. This is the single restaurant in Quebec that did not offer a gluten free bread option that we encountered (including northern Quebec province, breakfast places and certainly any of the lunch or dinner places that we ate at.).

Yelp
Outside looks somewhat Las Vegas, but inside is calmer and more sophisticated. We were intrigued by the idea of surprise, so we opted for Chef Chef menu. But we really, really wanted to have foie gras and somehow got the hint that it was not part of the Chef Chef menu, so we ordered foie gras app separately. It was good but not the best. The Chef Chef was a great, especially the venison carpaccio. Everything was nicely presented and was delicious. I was a little disappointed when the dessert was brought in front of me because it looked it had a lot of white chocolate (I don't do white chocolate), but the whole dish was really delicious with many flavors coming together. Nice and friendly service as you'd expect at a place like this.

Yelp
Unique culinary experience with vibrant flavours in every course. Excellent and friendly service to accompany each course. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations for a fine dining experience.

Yelp
Delicious tasting menu! Wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant earned their star(s) very soon!

Yelp
Wow! Staggering attention to detail. Every single ingredient in each dish was thought out to the nth degree. Stunning flavors, Beautiful presentation. Incredible wine pairings. Service is impeccable. It is hard to think that there is anything that could have been better from the moment we walked in the door until we the time that we left. Do expect to spend a serious amount but also grasp the amount of time and effort that goes into this experience. If you value quantity as a virtue in your dining experience then this is not the place for you. Wow, there, I said it again! Chris, you were right!

Yelp
We had dinner here on 10/11/13, the staff was wonderful, from the hostess to the many, many waitstaff. They were polite and very friendly. We chose the Chef Chef menu, it would be a surprise of items the chef was experimenting with, each was paired with a glass of wine. The food was delicious, we enjoyed each course as well as the wine that was paired with it. The only complaint was the portion sizes were so small. The restaurant is very expensive and we left hungry! Not sure if we'd go back, it was a great experience and we were thrilled with each surprise, but it was more like tastings than courses.

Yelp
one of the things that makes Laurie Raphael so wonderful, is the superior service. the staff makes you feel like a king. and, it's quite a joy to experience the culinary journey presented. sit back, relax, and embrace their mission. throughout the 5 course tasting i indulged in, there were a few misses. however, even the small misses can be forgotten. small miss, meaning the veal being tough and chewy. whatever, I already forgot about that. creative and colorful ingredients speak volumes at this restaurant, and no stone is left unturned. it is more than obvious that this restaurant takes culinary precision and the customer experience to an entirely higher level. for a high end dining experience, this is it. great job Laurie Raphael!!!!!!!

Yelp
Best meal and dining experience I have ever had in my life! Celebrated my 40th birthday there with my boyfriend. We did 5 course with sommelier wine pairing. Absolutely amazing!!!! If you are a foodie, you must go here.

Yelp
A beautiful restaurant that is certainly well aware of its foodie appeal. They have their own gourmet food shop just off to the side when you come into the restaurant. The dining room is large, grand and very chic. Located in the Vieux-Port of Quebec, this is definitely not a tourist place and certainly a place for those in the know. However, that being said, Laurie Raphael is well-known to both Montrealers and Quebeckers. The standard of service is very professional. The wait staff exude a sense of sexiness in their approach, but that doesn't mean that the service was doting or exceptional--it was just OK. The menu is full of double meanings and humour. For example, the sponge cake with chocolate and orange ganache is presented as though it is some kind of seaside dessert where the sponge cake is torn up and presented as though it was a real sponge. The spoons of foie gras, scallops, lobster et c. are usually paired with some kind of local jam or sauce. Something from the "terroir" and something for everyone! Citrus and fruits appear often in their food (in late 2009 anyway). We were served a goat cheese plate where one of the goat cheese items was a take on the Pogo stick. I suppose that is fun and creative. But in truth, it did taste good, so what to do? There was one wonderful dish--a chocolate caviar which was comprised of little tapioca balls bursting with a chocolate pudding taste that you'd remember eating as a child--all served in a little caviar container. The meats and fishes are fetished over and usually come with a smear or two of some kind of sweet beet paste or chestnut puree. They served us one course with a stuffed squab leg full of nuts and herbs. Delightful, to be sure. This was the second time I ate here and on both occasions, the food was lovely. However, sometimes you just don't want to look for all the humour and jokes embedded in what is otherwise a truly contemporary French line-up. But maybe that's what life is all about? Overall, an elegant Quebecois restaurant with a sense of humour, even kitsch, when it comes to preparing its food. P.S. Expect to pay at least $125/person.

Yelp
Great food, terrible service. No English menu available, no interest in avoiding allergens and snooty attitude. Shame on them.

Yelp
Excellent. I did the 5 course tasting menu. Food was amazing. Washed down with a bottle of St. Aubin.5. We had not been there in 20 years. New location.

Yelp
This restaurant is really good!!.. the service was Excellent!.. we got a place in the terrace and the place is very beautiful!!..All Dishes were Delicious!!!.. I asked for the Chef menu, which you don't know what it is until you get the Dish.. and It was really really good!!!... the best Choice I could get!!.. My boyfriend asked for the lobster, and It was really good, but the ammount of lobster was really small, even when the portions are normally small in Gourmet cuisine, this lobster portion was smaller than normally.... the best part was the Dessert. We got the best one there, it was something with Chocolate and hydrogen.. The presentation was Awesome!!.. and also really delicious!!..

Yelp
We return to Quebec City as often as we can with this restuarant as our destination. For fifteen years it has remained our favorite, though we have tried many others. In fact this year we had lunch there two days, deciding to try two other restuarants for dinner based on reviews we had read. Though our Chef Chef lunch was truly devine, there is just nothing like a fine dinner there. The two other restuarants? Panache, a real disappointment actually, and St Amour, another of our favorites. The Chef Chef lunch is a little adventure, since you don't know what you will be eating until it arrives, though you can hardly go wrong at LR. Our fabulous waiter, Carl, chose a perfect wine for whatever it was to be for which he claimed no knowledge. Turned out to be the most delicious salmon, unlike no other, beautifully presented as always. So, our next trip, back to LR for dinner.

Yelp
I've been going to this restaurant since it opened. I visit every time I am in Old Quebec for business. I travel world wide and it is hands down my favorite. I had a fantastic meal on the terrace last week with impeccable, friendly service. The food is creatively prepared, stunningly presented, and best of all delicious. The pricing at lunch is very affordable. There is no other restaurant in Quebec City that offers comparable food for the price. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, the food and the service. No trip to Old Quebec is complete without at least one meal here.

Yelp
This restaurant is trying too hard. Every dish had a foam, a gel, an emulsification, a sorbet and one or two purees. That's fine, but they seemed there just to be trendy, not to any purpose, and some didn't really work. Meanwhile, service was spotty (no spoon with soup?), although our primary waiter was excellent. Don't get me wrong; the food was beautiful and generally delicious, but for the type of restaurant this wants to be (e.g., many bottles of wine listed over $300), it fell short. From other reviews, I expected a place not frequented by tourists (and, indeed, there were few there), but it's clearly not a place for locals either. You'd do far better to spend your evening at Le Patriarche, or for a slightly more affordable meal, any of the places along the Rue de Petit Champlain.

Yelp
One of my favorite ALL TIME places to eat. The original is in Quebec and another in Montreal. Both are exceptional. When I need a fix, we go to Montreal, since Quebec is 5 hours away and Montreal only 3. And yes, we've driven to Montreal just for dinner and driven home. That's how much we love this place. Everything about this place is amazing!! The food, the service, the ambiance. It has it all. But go when you have time. I've never gotten out in less than 2.5 hrs. But, you never feel like you're waiting for anything. It just flows effortless, or so it appears. We've eaten there 3 times in Quebec and once in Montreal. Each time the experience is memorable. The service is always spectacular. The first time we dined there, on our way out, the owner-chef was sitting at the bar (we were one of the last tables), and we had a very nice conversation with him. Very friendly. Bus cas is fine for dress. It's very relaxing. Not pretentious. Just amazingly great food and a spectacular environment. Just be prepared to drop some serious coin. This is not an inexpensive place to dine. But worth it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! AMAZING.
