Nice is the New Star of Southern France

"A tiny, eight-table bistro with bar seating that attracts a thirtysomething crowd spilling into the street late at night; known for inventive small plates with a vegetarian bent as well as heartier dishes such as grilled chicken with red kuri squash and amba sauce, it delivers convivial, neighborhood energy and lively post-dinner conversation." - Sloane Crosley

Nice Makes the Best Panisse, the French Riviera’s Chickpea Fries | Eater

"A laundromat-turned-bistro in Vieux Nice led by a Normandy-born chef, this small-plates spot blends playful experimentation with Niçoise tradition; panisse was added to the menu after the restaurant opened in 2018 and has become a favorite with locals and visitors. The kitchen pairs the chickpea fries with unexpected dishes like veal tongue and a kimchi burger, and seasons them with spices such as cumin, thyme, garlic, salt, and pepper to create a more aromatic alternative to potato fries." - Chrissie McClatchie

We had such a fab time at Lavomatique! Great atmosphere & the food was inventive and tasty, some really great flavour combinations. Our favourite was the roasted cauliflower with peanut sauce! The staff were also amazing, super kind and attentive, we felt really spoiled. A great change from the usual, more traditional old town restaurants, if you feel like trying something different this is the place!

My partner and I absolutely loved it here. Every dish was amazing and seemed to get better and better. I’d recommend sitting up at the bar as you can watch the busy chefs. Definitely book ahead as it’s usually full. A real gem of Nice and a must visit!

Delicious and innovative food. Small and intimate. Excellent wine pairing if you trust. I went twice to experience much of the menu and still want to return. Asparagus was the most delicious I’ve had.

The most exceptional meal in Nice! We learned about Lavomatique through a friend's recommendation. We are SO glad we took his recommendation as this was the most exceptional meal we have had in our European travels this season. The location, a small former small laundrymat (hence the name, Lavomatique), has a warm and fun vibe with retro music and hip furnishings. The small plate format is great for sharing. Dishes are prepared with care in an open kitchen complete with Big Green Egg wood smoker for the grilled meats. "Le 3 mousquetaires" behind the counter are fun and inviting. Service was impeccable as was the care with which the food was prepared. The menu changes daily and the culinary creativity shoes. We tried grilled zucchini, Panisse fries, and chicken. All dishes were accompanied by perfect sauces and bursting with flavor. Save room for dessert and espresso, both are also exceptional. If you are in Nice, don't miss a chance to try this exceptional restaurant; you will be glad that you did.

We booked as a party of six for a late lunch, which you will need to do as it's understandably popular! It's a small but cleverly designed venue tucked away in old Nice. We ordered a selection of dishes - around two per person which was about the right amount. Every dish was impressive and the flavours shone through - we can recommend the ribs, sausage and cabbage and the artichoke dishes as our favourites! Definitely earned our 5* rating.

Wow! We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen and had an amazing meal. We're still talking about how much fun we had a few days later. It was fun to see the food being prepped and chat with the chefs. Food and service were great and overall experience was wonderful. Portions are a good size and we maybe ordered more than we needed but it was worth it. Make a reservation and get the lemon or chocolate tarts for dessert.

I liked the place. Ordered tuna tartare, beef cheek, and cauliflower. All were great but the tuna and beef were my fav. Highly recommend them. I can imagine lots of people liking the cauliflower but it was not as high up for me. Lemon tart was decent but nothing phenomenal. Can be skipped IMO. Service was ok but could’ve been warmer IMO. The guys are busy running around so you don’t get too much attention. Prices are a bit high for what you get but not outrageous. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I thought the food was great. It wasn’t outstanding enough for 5 stars but still quite good.

Best meal and fantastic experience that I had in nice for my a week vacation ! Comfy little place that chefs cook in front of you . Small menu but interesting dishes . The chuck steak was so tender , all the plates are great for sharing . The lemon tart was one of the best I’ve ever had ! MUST TRY ! Amazing flavor and textures !
