Lawrence Fish Market Chinatown - Review - Armour Square - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Lawrence Fish Market, one of our favorite spots for an affordable sushi feast, opened a second location. Besides the nigiri, sashimi, rolls, and trays they’re known for, the new Armour Square spot will have a longer menu—including ramen—and you can dine in. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Excellent sushi platter. The quality and taste of the sushi were top notch at reasonable prices. We had a group of six people, and we shared a large platter of sushi (90+ pieces). There was a really good variety, and everybody loved all but one roll. The presentation was beautiful, and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend eating here.

Google
Very affordable sushi restaurant. The food quality was great for the price. The service was good and the food came out fairly quickly. We went on a Tuesday night and it was busy. Highly recommended when you are craving for sushi.

Caterpillar (big roll) The rolls here are very tasty and fresh. I highly recommend them. One of my favorites is the summer roll, but this time I chose another one and it was also very tasty. As for the roll, it's a good restaurant. The salmon and tuna are very fresh, and the prices are reasonable.

Google
The veggie sushi was very filling and inexpensive! The ramen was served in a big bowl. This place is good to bring in a big group of friends. I was happy that they had table service. The waitress was nice and attentive. I would return again!

Google
Had a wonderful lunch and time! It was my first time visiting and the service was lovely. The food was fresh, came out quickly and the atmosphere was lovely for a spring lunch date. A new favorite ❤️ (Had Takoyaki, Ninja Roll and Crunchy Roll)

Google
I’ve been here (and the north location) plenty of times and just now realized I have never left a review. It’s one of favorite places to get cheap and delicious sushi!!! The Chinatown location does cost a tiny bit more, but you can use your card at this location. It also has udon and ramen which are both delicious as well. Staff is great and service is quick. It’s a monthly (sometimes more than once in a month) visit for my household. Must get the Banzai speciality roll!

Google
been here a couple times, and it never disappoints. Rice is well seasoned, and the fish is fresh. Price is great for the quality you're getting. Same quality as the original store up north! Pictured: sumo roll, creamy roll, spider roll, and salmon avocado roll.

Google
Waitress was polite but we had a miscommunication with one portion of my order. Pretty attentive and the manager was really friendly with customers. Tea was amazing, felt like i was in japan again. Was looking for quality fish and salmon was amazing. Love how my salmon avocado roll was, amazing roll at an amazing price and quality.

Yelp
C3 48 pcs - California & Spicy Tuna rolls, 30 pcs of tuna, salmon, unagi, white tuna, tai, ika, ebi, hokigai, tamago, inari Salmon, white tuna, and unagi were my favorites. Hokigai, shrimp, squid were subpar texture-wise. But overall, decent quality. Nothing was spoiled. They filled up a lot of this platter with cheap Cali rolls. You can get better prices for quality AND quantity at 312 fish market at 88 market.

Yelp
Favorite place to get sushi takeout from and worth driving out of my way for. When this location opened it had its growing pains for sure but after a return visit they have definitely found their stride. The variety of maki platters are so easy for catering to a large group but they have a la carte ordering as well if you want to be more specific with your choices. All super super reasonably priced and high quality sushi. I hesitate to call it cheap because that's a disservice to the quality, I just love that we have the option to not pay $17 for a maki roll in Chicago. Definitely will be back to try the udon and ramen. I have never personally dined in here but there is a sizeable space inside if you choose to.

Yelp
I was so excited to hear they were opening a closer location. The opening date got pushed back but no biggie, it will be worth the wait. I finally got a chance to order my usual for takeout. The original Lawrence's is a Chicago icon known for its quality, taste and price. It even mentions on their site bringing affordable sushi at a competitive price. While the Chinatown menu is still competively priced, I just can't get over how prices are about 20% more than the original location. I've been dragging my feet going there and caved today because the sushi craving was too much to fight. It tastes pretty much the same quality wise. The two knocked off stars are for the pricing. Lawrence's is practically a Chicago icon. I obviously don't have access to their financials but the original location remodeled and expanded. When they were closed for remodeling, they were able to set up a temporary location. They opened a second location with an expanded menu and dine in. They've been around for the longest time and obviously have the capital. Which is why I am so dissappointed with the increased pricing for this location. What annoyed me most is the extra charge for masago for the california roll. They've never done this and still don't for the original location. Another dissappointing money grab. To add insult to injury, the rolls barely had any or no masago. I think I might just stick to the original location when it's convenient. I am considering the expanded dine in options like ramen but maybe later when my wallet recovers.

Yelp
I'm excited to see that there is a new location on this side of town! I placed a to-go order for a maki platter (A4) for a potluck that I went to and it was able to feed about 13 of us comfortably in a potluck setting - we also had leftovers! I also placed a separate small order of nigiri and specialty rolls on the side. The Banzai roll was really yummy and spicy. Everything was fresh and tasted good. The sushi for the nigiri were also pretty big. Obviously, it's not the best sushi out there but for the price, you can't beat it! It definitely satisfies the sushi cravings. In addition, you can also order fish by the pound so i'll definitely consider that next time I want to make something at home that requires fresh sushi-grade fish. If you're looking to dine-in, they have a restaurant space inside! Otherwise, you can call them to order the large platters and you can place your regular and smaller orders online.

Yelp
The best value you can get for sushi and ramen!! Sushi rolls are priced anywhere from $6-$12. The soft shell crab is delicious and the ramen bowls are HUGE for ~$15. Highly recommend coming here for a casual night of sushi or takeout.

Yelp
I have been ordering from Lawrence Fish Market in Albany Park for years but now I was so happy to hear that they are opening a second place near Chinatown got me to come in and try. There are limited tables inside and I would suggest don't use the app to RSVP as we were able to come in, put my name on the waiting list which I was able to get a seat before a couple who RSVP online. Menu items in this location is selective compared to the Albany location. I ordered a few rolls and sashimi. Food came fast due to the 10 people working in the kitchen. The take-out section was busy as I could see plenty of people ordering party trays. My food was sub par and the sushi was mute.

Yelp
The hype is real!! This is one of the more affordable sushi options around the Chinatown area, without the sacrifice of quality! We got the sushi&maki set 1 along with a summer roll and a couple pieces of nigiris to go. Everything was super fresh and delicious! We are so happy to have a Lawrence's near us southsiders now :D

Yelp
Ambiance - fast casual dining spot, big kitchen with lots of staff, offered a couple tables for customers to dine in Service - amazing service, ramen came out first follow by nigiri and rolls Food - ramen broth was super thick, offered generous portion of fish to rice ratio, magma roll was super yummy, nigiri's were more on the fishier side

Yelp
Cheap, fast, reliable sushi! I think the $4 salmon roll is a really good deal. The $7 uni piece is worth the amount you get. The service is good. The ambiance is quiet but nice. My new favorite sushi spot close to home

Yelp
Heard about the hype and the cheap prices on TikTok so had to try it for myself! First and foremost, I was actually so amazed at how affordable the rolls are, ranging from $6-12 a roll! If there's any complaints it would just be that the rice could be better. Other than that, I will def be ordering again because you can't beat the prices!

Yelp
We ordered carry out and the food did not disappoint. Pick up was ready as promised in 50 minutes. Fresh, generous pieces of nigiri and rolls for a very reasonable price. We'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Judy N.

Yelp
For the price, the fish here is really fresh and delicious. My only qualms about the sushi is the rice, the rice on some of the rolls can be cold and hard at times but it can be overlooked because the fish is so good and the pieces for the nigiri are also a decent size/thickness.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our time at Lawrence Fish Market. We stopped in at 5:30PM last Saturday with our 1 year old. A lot of other people had a similar idea, because there were 3 other families there with very young children. Despite it being only a week or two after they've opened, they seemed fully staffed and on point! We ordered the basic salmon roll, spider roll, caterpillar roll, dreamy roll, tonkotsu classic ramen, and edamame. Everything was excellent. The ramen noodles were cooked well and they were very thin, which I haven't had before. All the rolls were great too. The edamame were oversalted, but that's a minor issue. Overall, I would rate our single experience a 5 and hope that they a consistent in the future! We definitely plan on coming back and are more likely to, since they have non-sushi options. It's nice to have a warm bowl of ramen in the winter.

Yelp
I'm so excited to have Lawrence fish market in the city and so close to me! I've always loved the one on Milwaukee but unfortunately it's so far and I couldn't go there often. The quality of the fish is almost as good as the original. The price is a lot cheaper and reasonable compared to other restaurants. They have so many options from individual to party tray, sashimi, sushi, ramen, and fried rice. The service is good and fast. The inside is decent size with about 10 tables, and the other side of the restaurant is the sushi bar. They also have variety of drinks to choose from and I think they also have alcohol. I'm so happy to have this new addition in the area!

Yelp
LOVE that they opened a new location in Chinatown, much closer to me than their original location! The prices are amazing and the quality is great as well. I would recommend any of their platters for a group of friends. I have only gotten to-go but they have some seating inside and serve ramen at this location, as well. It also looks like they sell frozen/fresh fish to buy and bring home, hoping to try soon!

Yelp
Very excited to welcome Lawrence Fish Market to Chinatown as they have been a household name to source sashimi platters over the holidays within my circle of family. I popped in on a weekday afternoon and got seats immediately. There is no need to make reservations as the dining space is quite spacious and has plenty of seating. I tried their otoro, chutoro, fatty salmon and fatty hamachi. All were good excited for the slightest fishy flavor from the otoro and their rice between too cold and hard for nigiri grade rice. Otherwise they are exceptionally affordable! Would be an excellent place to take family! Be aware of the pricing! They know have increased the doll amount to additional $0.95 to most whole dollar pricing listed on the menu.

Yelp
I recently ordered a sushi tray at this location and was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. The rice was falling apart upon pick up. The fish did not taste fresh at all and was smaller in size compared to the last time I ordered from their original location. Even the ginger tasted weird and spoiled! Huge disappointment with the quality especially considering the price that I paid for the food. Will not be ordering from here again.

Yelp
I love that Lawrence Fish Market has a brick and mortar in Bridgeport. The northside place was always a hike, so I 've been at this new place whenever I get a sushi crave. They have platters, but I don't like everything on the platters, so I get what I like instead. They have the Godzilla Roll, Dragon Roll, Spider Roll, and Sumo Roll. Tuna, Salmon, White Tuna, Negihamachi, and Shrimp Tempura. You can't go wrong with Unagi and Sashimi pieces. The only con that is different from the northside place is you can't visit the Admiral Theatre afterwards.

Novita W.

Yelp
So happy to have Lawrence Fish Market closer to home. It tastes the same as the one in Lawrence Fish Market. The only different is the price is slightly more expensive and this place offers ramen and a nice sit-down area. Service is nice and they accept credit card in this location. Our family fave rolls are Godzilla, Caterpillar, Banzai, Kamikaze, & Texas Crunch rolls.

Yelp
This 2nd location opened before Thanksgiving. I love the sushi from the original location and had to try it. There is side street parking along Wells St. Around 6pm on a Sunday, the place is full house already as this new location has dine-in. You put your name on the wait list for a spot. Most tables are 2-4 people seating. If you have a large party of 6-8 people, it will be a good idea to call them and let them know ahead of time so they can configure tables for you. The wait staff still need some training, but they are very quick and polite. I expect that in a few weeks' time they will be more organized. The squid salad was what is expected. The Hamachi Kama was so crispy that you can eat some of the soft bones. The sushi rolls are a little smaller than what I remembered, but the prices seem the same. So, no complaints. The Banzai roll was spicy with jalapeno pepper and spicy sauce. We had the Matcha Monaka for dessert. On the menu, the disappoint was that most of their desserts are cold desserts only. It probably is easier for the kitchen since they also serve hot appetizers and ramen.

Yelp
Wow!!! Now I understand why people have been talking about this place! The service here was phenomenal everyone was sooo nice and attentive. The food was unreal for the price I am extremely impressed and it hade such a cute cozy ambiance. They just earned themselves another loyal customer, can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The moment I've been waiting finally #lawrence_fish_market is a few blocks from me. The second day of opening. Fish is very fresh. Uni was delicious. Rice was made perfectly with right amount of vinegar and rice in each piece.

Yelp
I've been going to the Albany Park location for over a decade now, so, of course, I had to check out their new Chinatown location!! It's been thrilling to see the little takeout place I'd go to develop into this, while still holding their affordable prices and amazing sushi quality. The staff was super attentive and helpful and the food came out quick and delicious. Lawrence Fish Market also has the best spicy mayo of any sushi place I've been to, it is just the truth!! A must-visit sushi place, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
This is a nice and cute place. They have really good deal for sashimi and good quality for sushi. I haven't gotten a chance to try their ramen yet. One of my friends said they have real ramen experts definitely come back to try it. There's a super nice lady who took care of us. Not sure what's her name I think she's the manager. She's really sweet.

Ashlee E.

Yelp
Super fresh sushi rolls at affordable prices. I will bee definitely ordering from them again.

Yelp
Too excited to try this sushi place and too disappointed after one visit. Sad to give 2 stars as much as I want to support our community business. Very unorganized inside with bad layout, small space with too many tables. We had multiple servers for our table - not sure if they forgot to assign one or just had everyone running on the floor to all tables. One of our waitresses took our order and we told her twice we would split the bill (2 people came first and already ordered and had their food, another 2 people came later and ordered separately). The waitress said okay but still didn't do it and gave us one bill at the end. We asked for more water and had to asked multiple servers. They didn't come to refill until we got the bill. Food quality is ok/average. The dragon roll is huge and filled with cucumber but barely any eel - I thought it was a vegi roll at first. We also ordered a plate of sashimi but they charged extra $2 for their "special sauce". Will not recommend based on my experience.

Yelp
Really good sashimi and ramen! Amazing ramen the noodle is just cooked to the perfection not too soft not too hard! Very original Japanese style!

Charles C.

Yelp
Fish is all frozen flavor is mah mah dey Not sure how good Ramen is but when I see the quality I rather go rotary sushi instead for the quality

Leticia H.

Yelp
Excellent and friendly customer service and delicious food at very reasonable prices. Great addition to the area.

Yelp
I ordered the sashimi tray, futo maki, and california rolls. The sashimi were fresh and sweet, but needed some rice. The rolls were alright. They tasted like grocery store sushi. But for a total of $65 and being close to my location, it is a good deal. Next time I will ask for rice to make them nigiri and also a double order of california rolls.

Claire S.

Yelp
This place has high quality sushi at very affordable prices. Normally, I get one of their maki trays, but in addition to their sushi, they also have good ramen.

Pooh P.

Yelp
Just ate at this place yesterday. Poor quality and got us sick due to food poisoning. Won't go back again

Carmen L.

Yelp
Sushi just normal and more on the small size , i ordered party tray b2 last week and it has scallop i ordered b3 today missing scallop i called and just wondering if they forgot , i waited 5 mins for the manager , manager with poor attitude said menu is outdated and no more scallop in party tray. I was like your menu is new and could have mentioned it before i order then i could order more , manager refused to do anything. I'm not gonna order from them anymore .
