"There are plenty of honky-tonks on Broadway, but Layer Cake stands out like a sweet slice of buttermilk pie in a box of beer-battered chicken. There are pink-tufted thrones, golden monkeys hanging from the ceiling lights, and sparkler-topped bottles of booze, so don’t expect anything subtle. The name has nothing to do with dessert, but rather refers to the multiple experiences offered on each floor—lounge-y cocktails on the first, brown sugar glazed salmon and ribeye dinners on the second, DJ-fueled dance parties on the rooftop, and martinis in the intimate basement speakeasy. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure that offers a nice change from a lot of other Broadway spots. " - Jackie Gutierrez Jones 2, Carlo Mantuano
"Get a jump on the raucous downtown action with happy hour at Layer Cake, a fevered Barbie’s Dreamhouse right off Broadway. Specials run Monday through Thursday 3 to 6 p.m. on each of the venue's four floors, including $9 signature cocktails, $4 domestic beers, $5 house wine by the glass, and half off select appetizers like loaded duck fat tater tots, Buffalo chicken egg rolls, and hummus." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones, Eater Staff
"Hosted in Layer Cake’s Cherry Lounge, Santa Baby: A Mrs. Claus Pop-Up includes over-the-top décor following the life of Mrs. Claus through the years. A holiday-themed menu of seasonal cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts includes a peppermint espresso martini, the ornament shot tree (shots served in ornaments hanging from a tree), custom cakes, and the Christmas Surprise — a large-format dessert that takes two days to make and comes in a custom-built chocolate box with over a dozen different sweets inside. The pop-up is open seven days a week until January 5." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones
"If the tractor trailer toting around a hot tub filled with bikini-clad bachelorettes down the main drag didn’t tip you off, the sheer amount of bedazzled boots is a dead giveaway. Nashville’s Broadway is the definition of over-the-top. In the middle of this madness: Layer Cake, a four-story “Choose Your Own Adventure” of food, drink, and dancing with monkeys hanging from the ceiling (relax — it’s just lighting). On the ground floor, you’ll find an extremely bright pink lounge with a confection-laced dining table ripped straight from Alice’s Mad Hatter tea party. Up on the roof, music pulsates from a DJ booth sitting under tufts of cotton candy clouds. Or bypass all of that for the main dining room with a mural of the patron saint of maximalism — Marie Antoinette — sitting on a couch inviting you to eat cake. And yes, you should get the cake(s), a cadre of cupcakes spinning on a gold-toned Ferris wheel that pairs beautifully with the large-format rosé concoction served from a (what else?) glass cowboy hat. — Jackie Gutierrez-Jones" - Eater Staff
"Head to Broadway after the show for a visit to the equally picturesque Layer Cake, with its pink lighting, dozens of shimmering chandeliers, and cliche neon signs — and that’s just in the Wonder Room. After your photoshoot, order a collection of flatbreads for the table and the strawberry and rosé cocktail called 11/10, which is exactly what we rate this era." - Kellie Walton
